I am heavily considering the AT&T Tilt 8925 (plan to flash it with either Quentin or Dutty Rom --- will be heavy on the business use side for email etc..... not sure if someone has a recommendation for which rom to go with...) but I do have a couple questions....
1) I am in the car quite a bit and need to do one handed dialing and txting.... Is that easily achievable with the Tilt? I believe you can pull up a virtual keyboard on the screen but how easy is that to use vs say tactile hard keys (which the tilt doesn't have)?
2) can you make calls when the unit is slide open? or do yu have to close it to accept and place calls? If you can do it while open are there number keys on the keyboard that can be used or is it still touch screen?
3) when you flash the rom and add the radio stuff etc... everytime that is done, do you lose all the info on the phone? What is all info is stored on a micro sd or whatever card? I do intend to back the phone up but are there things that cannot be saved (i.e. MMS and SMS, pictures, downloaded files (say from email or something)?
4) are there any drawbacks to buying a refurbished phone? i can get one thru my company at a great price. It will come to me directly from AT&T. Anything to be concerned about or I should look out for?
5) probably a silly question, but if I use BB connect on the Tilt, do I need a BB data plan with AT&T? Out of curiousity, why would someone use BB connect on their WM6 device? I have never used or owned a Crackberry so please don't blast me for my questions.
6) can I (while driving) easily go from one email to another without having to use the stylus or slide the unit open? Are there any finger gestures or anything to get from mail msg to mail msg or from txt to txt etc easily?
7) has anyone made a ROM or whatever that caters a more to one handed operatin of the 8925 tilt?
Thanks to everyone who will respond.

1) I am in the car quite a bit and need to do one handed dialing and txting.... Is that easily achievable with the Tilt? I believe you can pull up a virtual keyboard on the screen but how easy is that to use vs say tactile hard keys (which the tilt doesn't have)? [You can press the send key to bring up the dialler and start typing either a) the person's name, as you would a text or b) the number directly, and press the send key again to dial. In the case of the former, the name search will filter out the contact's name, starting from the first letter]
2) can you make calls when the unit is slide open? or do yu have to close it to accept and place calls? If you can do it while open are there number keys on the keyboard that can be used or is it still touch screen? [You can make calls while it is open, and you can either use the hardware keyboard or the on-screen dialer. Both have identical functionality.]
[You will lose everything that is stored on the phone, the memory card will not be touched. You can use Spb Backup to back up everything, it allows you to select what you want backed up. The storage architecture is a lot like windows, with folders for my documents, my pictures etc]
4) are there any drawbacks to buying a refurbished phone? i can get one thru my company at a great price. It will come to me directly from AT&T. Anything to be concerned about or I should look out for? [No comment on this as I have never bought a certified refurbished anything, but you should contact your carrier and query them as to what rights you're entitled to]
5) probably a silly question, but if I use BB connect on the Tilt, do I need a BB data plan with AT&T? Out of curiousity, why would someone use BB connect on their WM6 device? I have never used or owned a Crackberry so please don't blast me for my questions. [I suppose RIM have realized that HTC makes great business phone, and are simply looking to expand their coverage beyond the scope of Blackberry only. I use BB Connect on mine, but I am not ann AT&T user. If you have no use for BB, it's best to not think about it at all ]
Thanks to everyone who will respond.

Don't text and drive.
Thanks to the responses so far. I added one more question above...
7) is there a ROM that makes the dialer keys bigger and/or makes one handed operation easier?
Maybe would be cool to have the "keyboard" when pressed to bring it up on the screen would come up as a T9 type keypad instead of the small letters that pretty much require the stylus to use. Not sure if there is a ROM that already addresses this.
Curtis
I use Voice Command (via my bluetooth) for dialing while driving. Works almost perfectly. Texting while driving is illegal in some states and will (hopefully soon) be made illegal in the rest. I think it's a serious hazard.
Many of the people that have had to return their units to AT&T after the initial 30 day period have received refurbished units. Most of the comments have said they have been functionally perfect. You may want to check out the AT&T return oriented threads for more details. I ended up getting my Tilt through the Premiere site for $250 less a $100 rebate. Not a bad price for a new unit if the refurbished bothers you.
As for the Blackberry issue - like many things with AT&T, it depends who you talk to within the company. I was initially sold the BB Unlimited Connect package with the phone (via Premiere Online). Then, spoke with a CSR who said it isn't even available on the phone and that I have to have the PDA connect. I could care less, so switched over. I believe I've read about others who have BB Connect without any issues.
Like any software options, you will get many answers from many people on the "best" dialer. There are a number of dialer options. I also use Finger Friendly Friends for contacts and like it alot.
I highly recommend the Tilt as a business productivity device, particularly if you live and work in a 3G area. So much so, that I sold my best friend on the phone. Tons of capabilities - several of which I hadn't even considered as selling points when I purchased it.
Ok, very good points on driving and txting... lets say I am walking (not driving anymore) and have one hand/shoulder loaded with items and don't want to stop to use both hands..... then am I screwed to quickly respond to a txt or email?
All response GREATLY appreciated thus far.
Thanks
Also seems like I need to track down a "better" contact/phone manager.....
Alright, I don't mind answering a "texting whilst walking" question, 'cos you won't kill anyone that way!
It would be impossible to send a one-handed text using the regular on-screen keyboard. Using the slide out keyboard one-handed would not be impossible but would be frustrating beyond measure (you would also drop your phone at some point).
The only way to reply to a text one-handed, in a similar way to using a non PDA phone, would be to install one of the large, on-screen virtual keyboards that you can find. There was one knocking around on this forum a couple of weeks ago but I don't recall the name of it, perhaps someone else can name and link it.
That's the only possible way I could see anyone using the device to text one-handed.
I will see if I can track down the large on-screen virtual keyboard. Thanks for the suggestions.
Curtis
I just found the new version of Resco Keyboard Pro v5.0 has a skin that is a iphone like keypad and works extremely well for one handed texting while WALKING.

I'm not sure if the tilt has it, but in any case I have installed the HTC Touch 12 and 20 key keyboards on my Hermes. These allow me to text by using a regular phone pad or an enhanced version which follows a qwerty pattern with 1 digit and 2 letters similar to the SonyEricsson M600 phones. I myself use the 12 key one as it emulates a phone keypad very well, and it looks very cool when you're poking at a virtual keypad with your finger rather than the stylus.

I'd love to be a part of this community, but where do I go for a good primer? You all are WAY over my head with all of the registry-hacking shenanigans, but I'm a quick study. I guess I could pore over the threads until my head explodes, but isn't their a more noob-friendly way of going about catching up?
In the meantime, perhaps someone could answer some ridiculously noobish questions:
1) I read a review scolding HTC for not including "Voice Command." What is voice command?
2) I don't see why my Tilt keeps trying to connect to Edge when I'm 3 feet from my WiFi router. Can't I make it try WiFi first?
3) I think I understand that I have Edge and the faster 3G will be in my area soon. So what is GPRS all about?
4) My OLD cell phone could at least tell me how many voice messages I had. This thing only gives me an icon that looks like film - it only tells me how many message I have when it gets a new one and "notifies" me. Any way to add the number? Along these same lines, if the iPhone can "itemize" voicemails and iPhones are sold through AT&T, isn't there a way to create a WM app that does the same thing?
5) I haven't yet hooked my phone up to my PC to sync, so why is it that when I drop down the task list "ActiveSync" has always automatically started itself again?
6) How does one access the registry editor? (Don't worry, I realize that with great power comes great responsibility...)
I have a ton more questions, but I'll bother you with them in waves, I guess.
Thanks
FYI - I'm using the AT&T Tilt and the only "custom" things I've installed are Windows Live, Live Search, and the HTC Home plugin. (All very cool!)
AGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! good lord read the wiki for Hermes cause most of the **** is the same and just about all of your questions have been answered in the forum!!!!

But seriously, it is always difficult to answer a post that has several questions in one and the posts in reply can end up jumbled and confused.
So, how to proceed:
Find the link on the brown bar above to the Wiki. (we do not yet have one for the Kaiser - but much of what is said for the Hermes also applies to the Kaiser)
http://www.fotosearch.com/comp/ISP/ISP113/ispc013011.jpgOn the main posts page you will find a "sticky" post called search XDA-Developers Using Google. You can type key words or phrases into this and search this site only. Many of your questions have been answered several times and you can expect most of your questions to be answered. For immediate convenience here is a link to the same post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=314615
If you cannot find an answer, then post a new thread, but keep it specific to a single topic. e.g. Is there a way to make my screen flash like a Xmass tree on 25th December?
It is generally frowned on to adopt a style like:
Pllllllllllllllllllllllllllllleeeeeeeeeeeeeese help me
OMG! i DON'T BELIEVE IT
A sense of humour is always OK (in my view) so long as it does not cross common sense boundaries.
Hope that helps some, initally anyway.
Mike
Not everyone is as discouraging at the first person to reply.
There are apps to download that can fix most of your questions.
I would do some searching on the forums then ask what you didn't find out. I also found out the hard way that if you ask a bunch of questions as once you get considered a noob. But if you ask just one question at a time you will get good anwsers.
I don't consider myself an expert but here is what I know(or think I know on some of your questions)
1 - Voice command is voice dialing
2 - when I am on wifi mine pops up everyonce in while too but it stays connected to wifi with no problems. I haven't address it, there may be a better solution but mine seems to work find so I never messed with it.
3 - I know based on the connection that edge and 3g both connect to the internet GPRS. There are program that allow you to force it to choose the higher one or nothing.
4 - If I click on the voicemail icon it tells me how many I have.
5 - It is always running to be prepared for when you do connect so you don't have to manually start it up. From what i can tell if uses very little resource running so it has never matter to me.
6 - There are program you download to edit the registry. I would suggest looking at the sticky for the kaiser. It is reg edit for dummies that runs on your phone making it very easy to change the settings. It includes everything I was looking at changing.
Don't take my answers as fact, i am sure i will be corrected on a few of them, just trying to help.
Well Drokkon, first off, welcome. I'm pretty new here myself I am tempted to answer all your questions (though one or two have me scratching my own head) but that way you won't learn to get around. I'm siding with what mikechannon said. The answers are here, and his post explains how to find 'em

3 - GPRS and EDGE use GSM, 3G uses UMTS. They do not all connect to 'the internet GPRS' or whatever you meant
6 - My sentiments exactly

1) I read a review scolding HTC for not including "Voice Command." What is voice command?
Voice command allows you to use your voice to command the phone. (Duh, I know). There are 2 different types now. One, you train with your own voice .. the other (Microsoft's) requires no training and can functionally do more. Voice command is included in some roms and from some carriers, Microsofts can be purchased.
2) I don't see why my Tilt keeps trying to connect to Edge when I'm 3 feet from my WiFi router. Can't I make it try WiFi first?
Maybe a dumb question but did you turn on WiFi? Start --> Programs --> Comm Manager
3) I think I understand that I have Edge and the faster 3G will be in my area soon. So what is GPRS all about?
From Wiki:
General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) is a Mobile Data Service available to users of Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and IS-136mobile phones. GPRS data transfer is typically charged per megabyte of transferred data, while data communication via traditional circuit switching is billed per minute of connection time, independent of whether the user has actually transferred data or has been in an idle state. GPRS can be used for services such as Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) access, Short Message Service (SMS), Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS), and for Internet communication services such as email and World Wide Web access.

There are several app out there that do that. Some free some pay. Look for Pocket Phone Zen or PhoneAlarm. You may also want to click on the icon as mentioned
5) I haven't yet hooked my phone up to my PC to sync, so why is it that when I drop down the task list "ActiveSync" has always automatically started itself again?
ActiveSync is always running (checking) for a connection. You can pretty much consider it part of the OS .. you know .. a "feature"
6) How does one access the registry editor? (Don't worry, I realize that with great power comes great responsibility...)
You will need a registry editor.
PHM Registry Editor or Total Commander (for PPC) are two free choices. Total commander is also a very good file manager.
** Keep in mind, you screw up the registry ... you will be hard reseting (formating and starting from scratch) **

2) In regards to the WiFi vs. Edge, I guess I'm just annoyed because I AM connected to WiFi and yet it keeps going for Edge. I figured out that under Settings -> Connections -> Connections -> Advanced -> Select Networks, you can choose whether programs use MEdia Net, AT&T ISP, My Work, and My ISP. First of all, this is tedious; secondly it's confusing - I assume it has to do with that confusing question that the WiFi connection asked me: "Is this connection to a) your work network or b) the internet." HUH? I'm sure I'll figure it out.
4) Furthermore, I can't click my voicemail icon. Wonder why not?

Glad I'm not the only one! I've been lurking for about a month, waiting for the Tilt to come out. I was active over at HowardForums and AT&T forums, but once I had the thing in my hot little hands last Thursday, I figured it was time to jump ship and learn how to customize this thing to my heart's content. As you said, however, the board moves fast and I couldn't find a board for beginners or even a sticky for beginners, so I thought I'd ask.

Live Search for Windows Mobile now offers voice input (in beta), gas prices, and hours of operation for businesses. Voice recognition works pretty good for an online app.
http://wls.live.com
Wow, it's been a while since MS one-upped Google. I'll have to check this out. Looks pretty nice!
I wish it had turn-by-turn voice but guess this will be great while driving. I am quite amazed of the speed of voice recognition even on EDGE.
Very cool... now, what did I like about Google Maps again to keep both on my device? I can't remember!
Google maps supports european cities.
Once Live came out the first time, I dumped google. It blows google away 10 fold!!! It has more features and loads and runs faster. The only thing that it doesn't have that would be cool is Dallas traffic. OH and for those that don't have GPS, LBS would be a cool feature.
Now that it has the gas feature, there really isn't any reason to go with the TeleNav from AT&T...not that I was anyways. Pay for GPS...my ass!
So it doesn't have spoken turn by turn, but it does notify you when the next event is. That has worked for me.
The voice thing is cool to, not sure i'm going to use that too much though?
Later,
Aaron

Live search definitely blows googlemaps away.
I installed this last night, but I cannot see how to get the speech recognition working. The "Enable speech recognition" is greyed out. Is it US only?
Just wondering if im doing something wrong here. in previous versions you could type a street adress in the search bar and select the city and if would fing the address and allow you to map it.. with this version that does not work, i have to type the full address with city in the lower location bar and then switch to map in order to see the location. because of this i can't find a way to just say an adress. it recognizes everything correctly but just puts the street address in upper bar and city in lower bar then if unable to find any matches. is there a certain tag of something you need to say before the address so it knows to look for stret address and not a business name or something like that?
Speech Recognition is US and UK only.
It doesn't appear that it works with a bluetooth headset, you have to speak into the phone itself. Otherwise, its very cool.
I don't hold much hope for voice recognition being much more than a gimmick, but even so, I think this is one of the best apps to come out of Redman in a long time. Navigation and usability are high, and the search results look top notch. They must have spent some big $$$ on data acquisition to get all the up to date traffic, movies, resturants, gas prices, etc...
Now how can they get this so right, then put a handy left soft key delete in the messaging window only to prompt you on every single delete?!?!?! MNFS
Installed it last night...uh-oh, the big M is onto something...

I think it's critical for use when driving. Interestingly though, I didn't find their gas station pricing to be very complete. There are a lot of gas stations in my area listed by gasbuddy.com that aren't on MS Live. You'd think they'd just partner up with gasbuddy, since they are already established and have a method for collecting that data.
is it me?
Is it only me who can't get speech recognition working?
I am in UK with Vario III on T-mobile uk. I have reinstalled with the latest cab from wls.live.com This installs version 2.5.2840.19676.
On the settings page the option to enable speech recognition is greyed out and not selectable. Can someone just check their version number and describe what they have to do to activate speech input.
I do have MS Voice Command 1.6.4622.0 installed and I wonder if this is causing a conflict.
If all else fails I will hard reset and install again. Voice control is a must have for me as I am in car most of the day.
Well I was always a Live Search guy over google maps because of the stupid data error that google always gives me. The voice rec is pretty accurate and very vital for use when driving.

There are two versions, a UK specific version and a US version (that allows you to select UK). The latter does not offer voice control when UK is selected.
You have probably downloaded via IE mobile. It appears the website detects your locale and initiates a locale-specific download. If you browse to wls.live.com/ from your PC you are re-directed to http://m.live.com/download/download.aspx?a=download&dlt=wls&mid=1011 since the site cannot detect your device. From there you can select an option to manually download. The cab downloaded this way is the US/UK version weighing in at around 715Kb as opposed to around 550Kb for the UK-only version you will have downloaded via your device. This (larger) cab allows you to select either the UK or the US and has voice control enabled for the US option only.
I've not tried the voice control yet, but I suspect it is optimised for US speakers.
Best regards,
Steve

there is a trick to this ...go to settings and change it to United states
and then go back to the main menu change your location to London England./ or anywhere in england if that fails then try this ...while connected to the internet ..type in london in the seach bar.. it will then prompt you for "london england" select ... and now use should the speak function.

Why I should expect MS stuff to be intuitive and just work I dont know, and why I need to swear allegance to the Stars and Stripes before it works is beyond me. It is working now ish, but I may need to work on my accent. If all else fails I can kidnap my Texan sister in law to speak to live search for me.
Thanks y'all from the Peoples Rebublic of Mancunia
Typical as I typed the above post live search beta just crashed my Kaiser. 1st involuntary soft reset.
A quick stick up its bum and one reset later its working fine.
Will I be able to connect to the GPS part of this updated program, with my Tilt, if I do not subscribe to a GPS plan?
I came from a Wing, so i am used to a few apps and customizations. I would really like to see a QuickMenu and Touchflo app for Android. Would be cool to have the slide menu broken up into folders, raise up like it does, then have a vista-like menu style. I can't wait till people start figuring out about making full blown themes like touchflo or SPB Shell app.
Has anyone seen or used any apps like these for Android yet?
great phone can't wait for more apps
I was a wing man to kinda hard to switch from wm6 but they are coming up with apps I am sure by the end of the month they will have all we want
Perhaps, but given that this is a new platform that is not Windows Mobile, I think most developers will be trying to work in new directions rather than ape other OS' looks and functionality.
Everyone has their thing but why do you want to take a new platform and apply old after thoughts from Win Mobile to it? Lets think outside the box and develop for the future and stop recycling the past onto another device that has much more potential. Google posted the source code to Android. There is nothing we can't make this thing do, keeping in mind hardware, if we just imagine a little bit and really push for a change of pace. I'm sick to death of the Touch series. Whats next?

I have to agree about the "application" slide up needing folders. I've been downloading just about everything from the market just to check it out and it's getting a little cluttered. You can make folders on the "desktop" why not in the menu.
So lets do it. Should be able to sift through the source and find the option to create the folders from the main screen, just implement it into the menu?

I agree here, if you just take from one platform to another, you end up with Vista! But there is a reason to take somethings and make it Android's own. Plus the stuff i want is not from WinMo really, its more from 3rd party apps...I got tired of the Diamond themes, but the Manilla themes are awesome and much newer! I don't think there is a Homescreen alternative that can beat TouchFlo2d right now. It's kind of the same thought of running Ubuntu with the Mac or Vista themes. A stable underbelly but a pretty shell. Nothing wrong with that right?

Not at all. Sorry I think my post came across a little harsh. Didn't mean for it to. I agree, there are a lot of third party apps out there that I'd love to see on Android as well.

Ahh wish i could fast forward like 3 months, i am sure a lot of what we are asking for now will be here by then! Would be cool to have a Virtual Keyboard, File Explorer, TaskManager, BatteryStatus and some sort of TouchFlo2d =)

Yeah, 3 months from now will be better on the virtual keyboard front.
There were some pre-release file managers that worked passably. I don't know why Google hasn't put them back up in the marketplace yet.
As for battery status, the OS has pretty detailed status information that's easy to make into a shortcut. There is a task switcher in the marketplace that shows you what's really running (as opposed to the last six from the long-press home key). There is no app killer, though, but if the apps are coded correctly, Android handles them like a champ. There really shouldn't be any need for a task manager if apps are coded right and Android manages them like the "life cycle" documentation describes. In an ideal Android world, the task manager is a thing of the WinMo past.
But as for TouchFlo, sliding panels, spb, and all that BS, I'm so happy to be out of that world and would be disappointed to see any of it come to Android. To each his own, though.
agree with you beartard about touchflo etc.
most important to me is to get some ability to attach files to emails. That should've been in basic android. I'd be totally happy with that. Errr, and file manager and a touch keyboard
Wait doesn't the G1 have a sort of touchflo feel just without that annoying cube that no one ever used?
I mean you drag down to get notifications, you drag up to open all programs. You scroll by dragging in the direction. Isn't that all what touchflo did for WinMo?

TouchFlo made it easier to get to anything in less clicks. But it also gave it a nice interface. The G1 does have a touchflo feel to it, but it doesn't have all the settings to change where apps/contacts are. I did download Any Cut so i can get to certain things quicker. But It doesn't have the nice interface. Once you get a bunch of Icons on the homescreen, it starts looking like a bad copy of the IPhone.

That's why I'm putting my shortcuts on the sides, where they'll be hidden most of the time.
I had ultimate launcher for my Wing, and it was...okay. I found after awhile I didn't need all the tabs I kept adding, and that they actually started to get in the way. Do I really need a shortcut to a game I only play when I'm bored and have nothing else to do?
Part of me wonders if the "drawer" at the bottom will be split into thirds so that there's three tabs at the bottom, and you drag whichever one you want up. You can't drop a shortcut on either side of that drawer button, so it seems like it would work.
Email
I liked the email application with exchange support on the iPhone 3G. It would be nice to get an intuitive yet different (to the iPhone) email application on the G1 from which I can control my exchange mail. (Yes unfortunately the organization that I work for is heavily based around Microsoft products and so for work, my email is exchange based.)
I do however agree with the idea of thinking out of the box but I'm not a developer and coming up with the ideas is not my strong point. I also think that taking some good designs/ideas from other platforms and improving on them is absolutely acceptable as long as it's done within reasonable boundaries. (I don't want an iPhone or WinMo lookalike)
I also agree about missing the wide world of windows mobile capabilities but what's crazy is that the android platform been out for a long time before the G1 so you would think that by now all the apps for the older version would have gotten updated by now since they knew this was coming.

I was actually selling my Wing on CraigsList to get a Tilt. But the person who i was supposed to sell the Wing to stopped answering my emails. The person i was going to buy the Tilt from stopped emailing me back when i told him i would need another week to come up with the $300 for the Tilt. I was still debating on getting a Tilt as a back up. But i think i will wait and see what happens with the G1 before spending that much on a backup phone. Not to mention i still have my Wing and will only get rid of it for a Tilt or enough to get a Tilt.

Loudtalks Lite 0.9.0.49 for Windows Mobile UPDATE 20-03-2009
Perhaps something for you guy's.
Push to talk for Winhose Mobile.
What is Loudtalks?
Loudtalks brings voice back to the internet communications. It's a little application, which allows you to talk to your friends or colleagues instantly with a single touch of a button. Think walkie talkie. It's faster than text chat and more convenient than calls. Loudtalks is available for Windows right now, but we are working hard to bring it to other platforms soon, including your mobile phone. Loudtalks is free and will always be free.

Download Loudtalks cab 0.9.0.49
Release notes
Power saving mode (”Turn off screen” menu option). When you select this option device screen turns off, while Loudtalks keeps running so you can receive messages and respond to them using central navigation key.
Vibrate option (if supported by device). It’s turned on by default so when you set your status to Away or Busy your device will vibrate on new messages. You can turn it off in Settings.
Report a problem… menu option. If something doesn’t work you can send us a report right from the software.
(Hint: even if everything works please use it to send your feedback or suggestions!)
Activate contact list, when switching to Loudtalks from other applications. Now you can use push-to-talk without tapping contact list first.
Automatically select the contact, when new conversation starts. That way when you hear “New conversation” alert, even if your screen is turned off, you can respond immediately by simply pressing PTT hardware button.
The website Loudtalks.com will automatically detect Windows Mobile device browser and display a mobile-optimized page so the easiest way to get the new Loudtalks is to visit Loudtalks.com on your device

Link not found... but it sounds fun
anyway, here is the link according to the reviews, it should work on Touch Pro Sprint
However, as I understand how it work, although it's free, you still have to pay for the internet to get a connection, right? (that isn't cheap man)
Oops sorry
I've updated the link sorry
http://loudtalks.com/LoudtalksSetup.exe
There is one bug:
you cannot add or accept contacts on the ppc you must do that on the windows (PC) version
But then it works great
PC version:
http://loudtalks.com/
What are differencies in comparison with Palringo?
I don't like in PR these things:
- voice history is saved on the server and all the time you want to play them,it is necessary to download it
- you push the button and it starts to recording. after you release it,it sends it,so not realtime. how is it working here?
Anyway,it looks great.
yes it is real time and no downloading messages.
just like walkie talkies
Well, that looks great! I missed an info about history. Is it saving as some file each message or how? And it will be available for Smartphones as well? I am using SP's and it can be very good choice,if it can use all resolutions(QCIF,QVGA,QVGAls) and OS(WM2003 as well).Yes and how about transfer rate? Is GPRS/EDGE enough?
Great one!!!
Thanks
Interesting app. I'm testing now

Yes GPRS is enough. The history (voice messages) you can find them if there is a blue arrow. if you click on the arrow you see the history of that contact. you can play them as much as you like.
Loudtalks is only available for Windows desktop and Windows Mobile based handhelds
It should work fine on devices with 400 MHz+ processor and on Windows Mobile 2003, Windows Mobile 5.0 and Windows Mobile 6.0.
Anyone tried this out? How well does it work???
Any plans to port Loudtalks client to BlackBerry? My team has a mixture of WinMo and BB devices. I am WinMo, of course, but some of the suits haven't seen the light yet.

Mark, this works very well. Since the update last week it is much better, faster en clearer.
Even now you get an roger beep befor you receive a message on the phone.
Also you can "send"speak to laptops and pc with speakers and a mic.
You can always try and you can speak to your self with the echo user.
I tested the echo, works good. But I cannot delete the messages. None of my buddy's got a Window Mobile. They prefer cheap old fashion flip phones.
Add me: xhypnotik
I want to see if it works with people.

Lol! They need to make a popup or whatever when someone adds you. I almost didn't see the small flag located on the bottom right hand corner.
yeah it's hard to see, but it is better then last week.
The previous version it wasn't possible to add people or accept people. You had to accept new people on a window pc.
So it will be better, i hope.

So how can I map it to my ptt button? I installed but it didn't map it. I'm using RSW 1.6 rom. Works fine with onscreen button, but would work much better to ptt button. I can make a link to it, but just need to know the parameters.
We are currently working a new rom that to be released in 2010.
Let us know what you like and what you don't about 6.1 and 6.5 & Manilla.
Instead of telling us what you want in a rom, tell us what you don't want in the GSM Elite Rom.

so you reckon it's going to take you 3 months to create a ROM?
any association with this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=567654?
I know you said you don't want us to post what we want but, is there a way 2 make a rom specific for carrier? like a t-mobile USA 1 w/ t-mobile logos, MMS, cabs and myfaves tab or at&t etc..
1 of the things I dont like is that you have to manually lock the device. Is there a way to have it just lock itself when the phone goes off, so that way when you press a button, it takes you to the slide to unlock screen, just like the iPhone do?
Winmo 7 comes out in 2010. I'll take winmo 7.
Slide2Unlock
I remember and app called slide2unlock for the wizard, Yeah i'm sure it would work for the rhodium with some minor tweaks. Your other question yes it is possible.
Heres my thoughts
Ive been messing around with Android for about a year now, and i simply love it. Im lucky enough to have 3 great phones that i can play around with and flash ROMS till my phones slap me. Ive only started modifying my TP2 quite recently and im quite impressed. The truth is however, i still prefer Android to WM at the moment.
Now before i look outside and see my car on fire, let me explain.
I love WM's feature rich functionality, the phones do just about everything imagineable. But the thing thats always turned me off to them is that i still feel like im using a less capable PC that makes phone calls.
I realize were kind of limited to modifying the general UI of the ROMS themselves but id love to see a version of WM that will no longer feel like a WM device. I havent seen anything come from WM thats been "game changing" in a while. I guess thats kind of the reason why i jumped over to Android, when i first saw the OS, i was in awe. It was like something out of a sci-fi movie (lame i kno).
I think what set Android apart is that nearly every function of the phone is accessible in a matter of one or two swipes and clicks. With WM its always the same old "Start, Programs, yada yada yada..." And while TouchFlo brought a much better UI to the system, its almost like putting a fresh coat of paint on a broken car.
I suppose id just like to see a ROM that makes my TP2 feel like something other than a rehashed WM device with a few improvements here and there. It would seem that if PC's got Vista, why are our phones still running XP? I just feel like were using devices nowadays that could handle so much more than the software we have.
I dont know if this is the feedback you were looking for, but its my opinion and i hope it helps. Keep up the great work!

I understand what your're saying. Fresh coat of paint on a broken car. WOW
This is exactly why I cannot wait for Windows Phone 7. You should really have a look at the article below. Alot of people are waiting for Windows Phone 7.
http://www.itpro.co.uk/614938/what-to-expect-from-windows-phone-7
Adobe Flash SQL Server Twitter Bing
We all can agree Adobe Flash should be mandatory in the GSM Elite Rom.
Slide2Unlock ?
Languages ?
Google Maps ?
Bing ?
Twitter ?
Facebook ?
Sql Server ?
In the same post tell us what you don't want in this rom and what you can't live without.
Absolutely Flash (one that actually works)
An all in one IM Client
Pic/Vid uploading app? (FB, Youtube, etc..)
TouchFlo in landscape
Wi-Fi Tether
Slide2Unlock, and power off
Appropriately sized app icons
No more B&W status icons/touchflo icons
thats all i can think of atm. ill add more if i can think of anything
***if this is a dumb question let me know, but is it at all possible to somehow port android .apk's to WM?
What I don't want in a ROM? Fat chicks.

Yes, I agree.
Though, I have never used Android, I can say the same thing with the relation being..
BlackBerry to Windows Mobile.
It just just so much easier to use the BlackBerry in general for music, GPS, browsing and e-mail.
All because of it's quick, easy, concise, and robust interface. Not to mention, many hardware buttons. But getting around the buttons, I want to have quick and easy access to what I generally use in the matter of seconds, not around half a minute (with current ROMs).
I don't know if this is possible, but power to you if you can do it.
Slide2Unlock ?
NO
Languages ?
YES (Japanese?)
Google Maps ?
YES
Bing ?
indifferent, just don't make it a locked app
Twitter ?
YES
Facebook ?
YES
Sql Server ?
indifferent, just don't make it a locked app
Also, I think Gyrator 2, Touch Off, Midomi and Nitrogen (or if there is a better media player out there that can access my 1500+ songs on my 16Gb MicroSDHC card faster than WMP for WinMo) should be integrated into the ROM as it would make the ROM all around, quite usable.
Things such as G-Sensor activated commands should be included (along with Gyrator 2) like;
-Turn over to ignore call
-Pickup to portrait from face-up to answer call
-FULL landscape capability (that means, NO MANILA 2.5 UNTIL IT CAN SUPPORT LANDSCAPE)
-Auto lock and screen shut off when on home screen and proximity sensor senses (flat) surface
By default, I would also like the OUT OF THE BOX ability to change my wallpaper in ALL TABS to whatever picture I may have in my memory, or have just recently taken (meaning no HDWalls as you have to keep swapping it, or go back to the computer to make a NEW .cab file for HDsWalls to keep track of) Background4All worked great, but lowered the quality of the image greatly. I wonder if there is a better alternative?

Somehow.. my younger sister (age 14) found her first smartphone a few days ago... it was an HTC G1... she found it lying around in the public library under the children read section (It belong to some guy most likely, because there were pictures of 'hot' girls on it)...
Well, thing is, she's able to use it really quickly.. to it's full capability, like e-mail, music, GPS and texting...
Go figure that Android is the OS with the most welcoming interface.
She can get to the browser faster than I can on my TP2. (slide over to internet tab, wait 2-10 seconds to load [WOOPS!] Tilted it to landscape, now needs to wait to load again, and then have the ability to press on "launch browser") OR (Slide down on action screen have it load for 1-5 seconds, and then launch browser)
Really easy with the blackberry, so I don't know why a lot of people are saying WinMo is the way to go.. although.. BlackBerry is boring to look at, it's doesn't leave you bored staring as some slowly moving animation when going from function to function...
Make this a thing of the past with this rom!
