Help-Trying to get back to WM5 - Palm Treo 750 ROM Development

I have a Treo 750v that I was trying to get into WM6 but failed.
(see background)Last sentence in the background is me trying to find info/link to run a Windows mobile 5 run upgrade(?) from my pc. Never got the info so I tried to flash using the SD card with a known good WM5 rom (it was the one I used originally to flashed it from a German WM5 OS to an English WM5OS).
After copying the CheeDIAG.nbh file to the SD card and doing the PTTApp Button+ Pin Reset the phone displays "Loading....." with the number 00058002 at the top edge of the screen. Can anyone please advise/help?....
Here's the background(from another thread):
Can someone help me? My friend asked me to flash his Treo 750 from WM5 to WM6 (Vodaphone). I use a ROM found on this site. After I formatted the SD card to FAT32 I copied the CHEEIMG.nbh to the SD card. During the update process it failed at MicroP. 1st three (something a can't rem.), bootloader, and GSM displayed O.K.
At the bottum of the screen it displayed in red "UPDATE Terminated..UPDATE FAILED"
I tried the process again with the same result. The Treo 750v currently shows only the 3 color bars.
REPLY: Don't worry, just OS is failed.
You can try to download Win mobile 5 os 4 palm treo, then run upgrade from your pc,NOT THE SD CARD,then try to flash it again with ROM u have.plz let me know what happends.I think that the topic for upgrading is sticky in this section
Does anyone have a link to where I can download WM5 OS for palm Treo? I've been all over their site but haven't been able to spot it.

Upgrade problem

Hi there,
I have prolem with upgrading my BA.
I upgraded my BA to WM 2005. But this version isn't suitable for my. I would like to return to my previous ROM, or change ROM to HEMI...
I downloaded HEMI ROM and I started upgrade utility..
First i used BaUpgradeUt.exe. Error 100: Error model ID appeared..
Second I used MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe. After several seconds appeared window with information about uprading, so I pressed UPGRADE button.
After that ActiveSync shutted down, and window with information "checking information on your device" appeared...
My XDA still working, there is no information about upgrading.
Is there any tricks with WM2005.
Some advices?

Yes: to read readme.
In every rom package, (even in case of HELMI's on) there is Readme.txt file, that explains the procedure (in case of helmi's one: in folder with nbf file).
In short words:
0. Unhide and delete EXTROM by repartitioning flash rom (info on Wiki)
1. Unzip and copy nbf to correct folder
2. SetOperator (in case of MDA3 from ERA GSM it was T-MOB009, but you HAVE to check it in your machine)
3. Prepare EXTROM on SD card
4. Put BA in Bootmanager mode (Serial/USB massage on the screen)
5. Go on with BaUpgradeUt
6. Make Hard Reset WM5 way (power with reset is not enough)
When you do this carefull according to the Wiki and Readme, you should be happy user of WM5.
Thx. It's working now.

Problem with update WM6 - Treo 750

Good morning friends...
I'm from Brazil - Sao Paulo.
I did the download of the updatingfor WM6 straightly of the site of the Palm Australia (version for operator Telstra 1.15 ROW), for a treo 750 version 1.15 ROW of the operator Claro. It was doing the updating and for my unhappiness, it finished the energy. When it returned, the appliance does not go out from that fabric of bootload. I looked for informations in several forums, and found the information of which there was an executable one to continue the updating in the directorate TEMP. I continued with the updating, and came ending it. However, now the appliance does not go out from the fabric of presentation (it arranges with it soon of the Palm). I tried to find some informations in respect, and even I finished appealing, and even I formatted the Palm (Power Reset). I tried to install again, I continue them to myself with the same problem. I checked that there are some updates in which there is possibility to effectuate through the SD itself, which the ActiveSync does not recognize any more the appliance. It recognizes the Windows like ' HTC USB SYNC '.
If possivel, it would like some help, if vcs know any alternative form. Opposite case, I will have to get a beating up to the technical back-up, and it does not enter in the guarantee.
Excuse if there are some mistakes, but it does time that I do not talk in English
From now I thank.
Phew, I managed to decide. I followed these steps what I found in the Internet and it gave right:
1. Using winrar descompacte Updater_anything_anything.exe
2. Find there the archive CHEEIMG_FW.nbh (it has +- 83MB).
3. Format his card for FAT32 (using Windows and reader of card for ex). There is certified what is FAT32, not FAT (16). (obs I formatted mine using the proprio palm with the resco explorer himself).
4. Copy CHEEIMG_FW.nbh for the formatted card.
5. Re-nominate CHEEIMG_FW.nbh for CHEEIMG.nbh
6. put his card in the Treo. Connect the porter in the Treo.
7. Pressing buttons PPT/Media (below the volume) hold tight reset with the stylus.
8. There must appear the fabric of the bootloader (it reddens green blue).
9. If vc did the previous steps correctly he must ask if you want flashar the ROM.
10. Press the red button (power) to confirm.
11. Assist the bar of progress while the Treo is flashado (15 minutes??)
12. After the upgrade, do a hard-reset (reset holding the button power, then arrow 'up' to confirm).
Since it was not letting to pass the archive for SD through the Palm, and tbem have not a card reader, I used a Nokia 6265 that had here, and he gives the option of drive was recognized like pen. I formatted the SD and followed these steps.
Phew, I thought that my Treo had died, thanks guys...

I don't know if I toasted my XDA
I have an XDA IIs. The biggest problem I think that I made was to use Windows Mobile center since I am using a Windows Vista OS.
I was about to install the windows 6.1 from pinoytopdownloads when suddenly, it stopped and continuosly displayed Serial......version 2.07.
Did I toast my ROM or did it just become blank because Windows Mobile Center disconnects once the phone started changing it's OS?
I have not tried checking if activesync 3.7 on a Windows XP application can still recognize the O2 Xda IIs in that state.
If anyone can guide me or give help regarding this, I will greatly appreciate it. thanks.
try using XP with active sync 4.5 and start the process from the top, hard reset first your BA and put it in bootloader mode...that should work
Upgrading Blue Angel using Vista (without Mail Button)
Hy everyone,
Yesterday I had a bit of a struggle trying to upgrade my SPV M2000 (aka Blue Angel) but in the end it worked.
As you guys are having some trouble too, I'm going to post the way I did it and hope that it works for you as well..
Note I: This steps worked for me but there is no guarantee that they will do so for you too and everything you try is at your own risk. However I am sure, you are all aware of this and really hope that this is going to help you.
Note II: My Laptop runs Vista Business, my BA WM2003 non-SE. I modified the installation process as the mail button on my BA is not working anymore, preventing me from following the normal instructions found in the wiki.
First of all (Prerequisites):
- Ensure Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) is installed and updated to the most recent version. The latest version is 6.1 which worked fine for me.
- Get the drivers for the BA, to be found in the wiki
- Get MTTY 1.4.2, attached to this post
- Get the ROM you want to install, I used Sun Dream's WM6.1 which can be found in the wiki as well
Now, to the task:
To begin with we can follow the instructions given in the wiki for ugrading to wm6 using vista, so I'll just copy&paste those steps from there:
4. Put your device into Bootloader mode by pressing and hold the "Power" & "Record" buttons, and then press the Reset Button.
5. Connect the phone to the sync cable/cradle USB. (Now you can see "USB" at the top of your display and numbers (2.06 or 2.07 at the bottom) You may need to remove SD/MMC (memory) card
6. Now navigate into the WMDC (Start -> All Programs -> Windows Mobile Device Center)
* Click on the "connection settings" menu icon
* In the connection settings menu uncheck "allow USB connections" then press OK.
* Now exit the WMDC and return to the desktop
7. Go into the start menu and type "Services", this will take you into the local services dialogue and show a list of all services either running or registered with your pc.
* Scroll down the list and make sure these services are present:
* Windows Mobile-based connectivity
* Windows Mobile 2003-based connectivity
* If these services are not started then double click each one and set them to Automatic start by clicking the "startup-type" drop-down menu and selecting automatic then click the start button in the same window, apply the setting by pressing OK.
* Return back to the desktop again
8. Go into the start menu and type "Device Manager" then run, this will take you into the device manager.
* Click the "+" symbol next to "Mobile Devices" and double click on "HTC USB Sync". (Note: In my case this was labelled "Microsoft USB Sync")
* This will bring up the properties of the currently connected device.
* Go to the "Driver" tab and click "Update Driver".
* Click "Browse My Computer for Driver Software".
* Select "Let me pick from a list...."
* Click the "Have Disk" button.
* Click "Browse" and navigate to the AS_DRIVERS folder we created earlier.
* Now select your file
o Vista 32bit users select the file "wceusbsh.inf"
o Vista 64bit users select the file "wceusbshx64.inf"
* Then click Open.
* Click next and the driver will be installed (wait a moment).
* Press close and escape back to the desktop now.

Next Steps, different from those described in the wiki:
9. Go to the task manager and kill the wmdc.exe process
10. Run MTTY; select the USB option from the dropdown list
- There is also a USB button but the instructions I found said NOT to use it, so I did not test it
- Apparently, the option could also be called something like WCEUSBSH001, but always has to contain USB. In my case it just said USB
- If you do not get a USB option something is not connected correctly, ie it will not work with the stock drivers Vista uses

- Type "task 0" to ask your device reboot (hit Enter)

Next Steps:
11. Take the phone off the cradle. I am not absloutely sure anymore, but I think it still was in bootloader mode at that point. If that is the case just soft reset the device.
- When the device has rebooted it will ask you whether to flash some settings (can't remember which..) about 3 times. Just answer no to all of them.
12. Restart WMDC and re-allow USB connections (under connection settings)
13. Reconnect your device to the cradle and start Active Sync on the Blue Angel
- Make sure your device is shown as "connected" in WMDC
14. Start the ROM installation.
Note: Using "BaUpgradeUT.exe" resulted in a Device ID error. In this case you have to use a version which does not check the ID codes. I used the version attached to this post
15. When the installation is finished, the dialogue on the computer says to cold boot (hard reset) the device.
- If your mail button is not working, just soft reset the device (what I did)
- If your mail button is working you may attempt this. (Please report back!)
I have not yet gotten through really testing the device and I never had a WM6.1 device before, thus no basis for comparison. From the first impressions the soft-reset at the end did not cause any problems and everything seems to be working fine.
16. You're done
Whew, this has gotten rather long. If this instructions work for you, please let me know!
As there seem to be several BAs out there where the mail button doesn't work this might be a useful addition to the wiki.
However, I will not post it there without some feedback whether it works for others as well..
(I hope there aren't to many mistakes in the text; I am not a native speaker)
Final Note:
This is not my work, all the steps described above were found on this forum and on the wiki pages. I just did the job of combining them in a way that worked for me.
My biggest thanks to:
- crabiorc
- ramram
- sp3dev
- all the people who contributed to the wiki pages
Best wishes,
Dipak

Yes. If you feel more comfortable on a specific ROM it is always ok to downgrade or upgrade.
Upgrade XDA IIs to WM6.5
My XDA IIs just froze when resetted earlier and it was running on WM6.1 so I started to wonder if it had totally died. As I mainly leave it in the car and use it for satnav I was considering now buying a tomtom.
Then thought if its dead trying to revive it cant hurt so I found the following link (http://pinoytopdownloads.blogspot.com) to download a zipped file claiming to be WM6.5.
Opened the file and did a hard reset on devicethen sync with PC. Ran the programe which looked farmiliar from previous updates I had used so thought it might work. Half hour later, my XDA IIs came back to life running WM6.5 and none of my data such as text and contacts were lost at all.
It lives again.
Waiting for the HTC Touch Pro2 to see if it lives up to its hype and then can use my PDA as a phone again too cos lets face it... the XDA IIs is a bit of a lump now!

Nice to hear that your BA is kicking again

Billy B:
I just bought an 02 XDA IIs. I love it but the bluetooth doesn't work with my Motorola S9 stereo headset unless it's 6 inches from my head. Does your XDA IIs work with stereo bluetooth? Have you tried it with WM6.1? I'd like to know.
Upgrading to WM6.1, Etc.
For all you upgrading Blue Angels to WM6 and high, you need to read the Wiki http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel. Read Blue Angel for beginners and also the upgrading to WM5 and WM6. You'll learn that you can free up some memory being used for the Extended ROM among other things.
I am new here, and this is my first rom flash. I have an O2 XDA lls that was given to me by a friend on WM2003. On XP, following the instructions on the wiki, I have tried with several roms. The flash seems to work, but then as soon as I reset the phone I am back in WM2003. Instead of a striped boot screen, I simply see an O2 logo, and when using the key combinations, I get no debug options.
Anyone have any ideas?
well did you flash a proper rom or maybe just a radio rom, meaning just an upgrade on wireless tech, because that process would "feel" like flashing a rom but actually doesn't change the OS
I don't really know. But I used the roms on this page:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4
if that helps. I also used one off the helmi_c to check it wasn't a dodgy rom. DO you have any specific one to recommend? When I downloaded and unziped the rar, I simply ran the upgrade file within which started a wizard which said it would upgrade my pda. Strangely, the wizard did not display any information about the pda on the screen which tells you the rom info. Is it possible that it is not being detected? Do I need to install some extra drivers on XP?
it is perfectly normal that this upgrade tool does not show all the information like an official upgrade would, first of all, that is because these are cooked roms, meaning you only upgrade the OS, not the protocol, radio and extrom. that would be baked roms. but anyway, also, that the device's current information is not fully shown or not shown at all is normal, as you are probably using the MAupgradeut_noID.exe in contrast to the original BAupgradeut.exe, just by the first two letters (and the giant picture in the wizard) you can tell that this upgrade tool is actually for the magician, but works best for BA.
for recommendation:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=482997
the R6.1 release on that site is the newest real release, meaning you can get full further support, the download links work...
Don't get fooled by the R6.1, we are still talking about wm6.5, it is just the xplode release number.
P.S. no extra drivers needed, just use the wiki wizard word by word and it will work
The same thing happens again. Using the ROM upgrade file, it all seemed to work, and then when I attempt to do a hard reset, I get no stripes, just an O2 logo, and no boot options. I am then returned to Wm2003. Maybe I will try on another computer.
it's nice, but there is some application lost.
i've upgrade my xda 2s to WM6 cooked by HELMI, i download from http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Blueangel_WM6_WizzardUpgrade4_Vista and look powerfull, its nice, but there is some application lost that i need. there is'nt auto config and xBackup...some one can help me to get that application??....thank's.....

Upgrading Treo 750 to WM 6.1

I am having problems upgrading my Treo 750 from Windows Mobile 6.0 to 6.1 standard. I have run the Cheetah unlocker program. I formatted the card and put the radio program on it. Inserted and ran bootloader mode. The screen turns red, green, white and stays that way permanently. I eventually have to pull the card and reset the device. It comes up and works as usual with wm 6.0.
Is my phone not unlocked?
Is the radio program no good?
Any ideas?
Hard to say, but I suspect you either haven't successfully run the unlocker program, or have not formatted the SD card correctly.
BTW - Upgrading a radio would not get you from 6.0 to 6.1 it would only upgrade the radio, so make sure you have downloaded the proper file.
Understood. I have tried both the radio and the cheeimg.nbh file. Both have the same problem. How long should the upgrade take once the bootloader reads the card (so I know how long to wait until I try something else)?
I figured it out....here is the answer from this website. Thanks

With this method I have successfully unbranded, unlocked, and updated 2 Treo 750s that were originally AT&T/Cingular branded.
I spent hours running through multiple threads reading and searching to finally find a solution that worked flawlessly. These steps have been compiled from multiple threads:

(I couldn't find the original posts for Treo750_OS5_2_19199WWE_STD.rar so I uploaded to my own site for now)
1. Download, extract, and run MAGIC_UNLOCKER on your phone.
2. Select both options in MAGIC_UNLOCKER and click unlock. This will unlock your phone.
3. Format your SD card to FAT32.
4. Extract Treo750_OS5_2_19199WWE_STD.rar and copy/paste CHEEIMG.nbh to the formatted SD card.
5. Transfer 1_CHEE_MountExtROM.cab and 2_Chee_Extrom_rename.cab to your Treo 750.
5. Run/Install 1_CHEE_MountExtROM.cab and then soft reset the phone.
7. Run/Install 2_Chee_Extrom_rename.cab and then soft reset the phone.
8. Click and run Start>Programs>Chee_Extrom_Unlocker. Run it about 3 or 4 time and you should some type of error messages. Just OK or X them and soft reset the phone again.
9. Open File Explorer and click the drop down arrow, in which you will now see ExtendROM. Open it and delete the 2 files in the partition folder.
10. Download, extract, and run CheetahUnlocker on your computer. For this part make sure you have an ActiveSync (XP) or WMDC (Vista) connection to your phone. Click Flash SPL and go through the steps for CheetahUnlocker to Flash SPL. Don't worry about any of the other items in the menu.
11. After going through the steps in CheetahUnlocker and the phone, the phone will enter into tri-color bootloader screen momentarily followed by Loading screen...
12. Next, you'll see a light blue screen with the heading CHEEIMG.nhb followed by a few other entries below it. At this point, it will tell you press the power button. Go ahead and press the End Call/Power button. This will begin the ROM flashing. The ROM flashing takes about 5 to 15 minutes.
13. When the flashing is completed, the bottom of the screen will say Update successful and the entries above with the OK seen at the end. Now reset the Treo 750 with the stylus and immediately (during the Palm Logo) perform a Hard Reset. This is accomplished by pressing and holding the End Call/Power button and simultaneously resetting the Treo 750.
14. You will now be prompted to Erase All Data. Press the Up key of the D-Pad to continue and erase the data. This will format the phone.
11. Upon completion, the Treo 750 will continue to boot-up and go through the initial start-up steps and wizard. Once completed, your phone will now be unlocked, unbranded, and updated to Windows Mobile 6.1.
I made this thread to help people unbrand, unlock, and update their Treo 750s without having to waste hours looking for solutions and how-to something. Basically, made it easier for the noobies and everyone else to find everything in one thread.
Mine goes to a gray screen immediately with an 'update in progress' bar ... takes about 2 minutes to flash the new ROM.
There doesn't appear to be a forum for the 700W/X. Where do I get information on these earlier Treos?
all ur links are not working please check again

Hi,
I cannot flash 0.78.OliNex Hard-SPL on my new X1i: The progress bar stays at 0% until the timeout, then Error 262. I tried everything (no sd-card, no sim, hard reset, compability mode etc.), no avail.
My new X1i has the image version 1.05.932.7 (03/24/09), the bootloader reads:
KOVS110
SPL-0.78.0000
MicroP1-787
MicroP2-707
The type is AAD-380001-BV.
Radio is 1.14.25.55, protocol 52.65.25.34J, extended protocol 1.0.11809.7229.
Software ID is 1213-6439, version R3AA007, user id 1215-3303, user version R15A, content version PA10.
I noticed that the installed WME 6.1 is modified compared to the old X1. In particular, during my first attempt, a WM6.1 warning message with a red boundary popped up, indicating that proceeding could harm the phone (yes/no). I checked yes, and since then, the message does not come up anymore. Probably the ROM is not in Olis compatibility list, so I looked for unsigned HardSPL, but found only the Image Version 1.00.Diamond, so I did not flash it (probably it would brick my X1i). Any idea would be very much welcomed, I want to get rid of WM6.1 and flash WM6.5.3.
Thanks a lot for any hints.
BTW, I've posted this thread alredy in the X1 General forum and realised only now that this forum might be a better choice, sorry for that.
Next try
Hi,
I found the recommendation below and tried, but no avail as well.
Does anyone know an unsigned HardSPL by Oli for the SE X1?
Any help appreciated.

Default HTC Touch Pro, Fuze HardSPL Error 262 FIX
Alright, this is how i fixed my 262 error after ripping out all my hair for a week.
- Plug your phone into any working usb port (make sure Active sync is up and running)
- Run RaphaelHardSPL-Unsigned_190_1_3.exe and on the first screen pop up, 9 files will be created in the directory you run the .exe from.
- Copy these 9 files to another folder because you will be clicking cancel on the pop up which will in turn erase the 9 files it created.
- Click cancel on the pop up.
- Go to the folder in which you copied these 9 files to.
- Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe and the same screen pop will appear as before.
- Follow the prompts and it should work.
don't flash bootloader-stuff from other devices, never! Oo
try flashing hardspl 0.72 via usb first (the old one), then flash 0.78 as an "update".
Next step, but still not working
Well, I was able to flash APP_SW_X1i_GENERIC_UK_1213-6450_CDF1215-1832_KOV_R1AA017
from the SD card, and I have now SPL0.72.0000 on my X1.
ROM Version:1.02.931.3
Date: 08/29/08
Radio: 1.06.25.29
Protocol: 52.43.25.24U
Software ID: 1213-6450
Version: R1AA017
However, X1_HardSPL still terminates with Error 262 as before. Flashing OliNex's HardSPL via SD card (RUU_Signed.nbh renamed to kovsimg.nbh) does not work either. I still cannot flash my Dynamics GTX 2.3.5 GER ROM.
Any ideas?
BTW, I tried with a desktop and a laptop, both XP SP3 and Active Sync 4.5 on various USB ports. I disabled Security Options via X1_Tweaks. Everything seems to work, only flashing HardSPL still fails.
At least, I am a step back now ;-)
Bingo!
I succeeded. The solution has been:
- Establish an Active Sync connection via USB.
- Copy the file Xperia-SSPL-Manual.exe to the root directory of a FAT32-formatted SD card (no SDHC, an elder one). SSPL-Manual is the basic part of OliNex bootloader.
- Unpack HardSPL by starting it or use RUU_Kovsky files in a directory of the PC hard disk. Make sure that the proper RUU_Signed.nbh file is in this directory (the HardSPL image by Olimex in the version you whish to complete the basic SPL started onthe X1)..
- On the X1, open the file manager and start Xperia-SSPL-Manual.exe by clicking on it. The X1 switches to the boot loader mode indicating HardSPL 0.52 by OliNex.
- On the PC connected to the X1, start ROMUpdateUtility.exe.
In my case, the flashing went very quickly to 100%, and I have now HardSPL0.78OliNex on my X1. Now I can proceed (Task29, image flashing). At least I hope so.
My assumption about the the problems I faced: My X1 had a quite recent firmware which probably blocked any change of the SPL and allowed only generic signed images to be flashed, no cooked ones. Xperia-SSPL-Manual.exe bypasses this lock by applying an OliNex cracked routine, thus allowing to overwrite the SPL. At least I think so.
Done.
My Dynamics GTX 2.3.5 GER ROM is now up and running. THX a lot for the great support of this forum!
Thanks for instructions I have same problem with my X1.
You're welcome.
It has been worth the troubles - the Dynamics ROM is great, and until now, I found no hickups.
