having some issues with my phone starting up and being dim. The only way to make it light again is to go to backlight settings and change them. Also when I slide the keyboard out, it doesn't make the noise and the screen doesn't adjust. I had a error with QuickGPs once and then my phone wouldn't stop vibrating. Any have this problem before or know how to fix it. Or some ideas on how to fix it. I fixed it once by sot-reset but it isn't working atm.
For the screen not rotating automatically, try going into the settings and manually changing the rotation to the opposite of what it should be in the current keyboard orientation and then back. Then try sliding the keyboard out and see what happens. I don't own a Kaiser yet, but the Tilt I was playing with at the ATT store seemed have this issue and doing that fixed it. It could also be that the mechanism that's used for sensing the keyboard open/close is broken. I believe someone said it's magnetic. I'm not sure though.

Hi,
Received my brilliant brilliant kaiser today. Every penny worth an upgrade from trinity apart from a slight brick feeling.
I was wondering if someone knows how to keep QWERTY keyboard lights on all the time while you are using the keyboard. At the moment they stay on for few seconds when keyboard is opened, but turns off later and don't turn on even on pressing keys unless you close and open the keyboard. It would be helpful to type in dark if backlight on keyboard keys stay on as long as keyboard is open.
thanks
heh i use the low tech way, i put my finger over the light sensor
I am wondering the same thing. There is an option for "Automatic keyboard auto sensor" for the backlight under "Settings....Buttons....Backlight" but haven't been able to get it to work. Where is the light sensor? I could possibly go high tech and put tape over it!
Update:
In the Registry, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER...Control Panel....Backlight....QKeyLedTimeout
and change the default value from 10(seconds) to something high eg. 180 (3 minutes).
This will keep the backlight on for the specified amount of time.

so say you only need the keyboard for 1 min, when you slide it shut does it stay lit for the other 2 min or go off when closed?
One last update....the above registry mod actually will keep the phone button backlights on for the specified time as well as the keyboard backlight. So, this could be a bonus for some. Still haven't found the light sensor on this device I am guessing it is on the keyboard on the left side (tiny hole), but I still haven't been able to activate it. Anybody else had any luck?

It will go off as soon as you close the keyboard

Unticking this option actually fixes the issue... If you DON'T enable the auto-sensor, the light will come back on instantly on every new key press (any key..).
Stretching up the time-out with earlier suggested reg-mod is a nice added bonus...
The sensor is slightly left from the Q-key. A little black dot.
Strange,
I put my finger on top of it, and it did not light the keyboard

Yeah.. my light sensor is iffy... Maybe it is just a bug.. I can be in a totally dark room and they key backlight will not turn on. If i disable the auto sensor the backlight, of course, works as normal.
i think i will have to leave it disabled..
Auto Sensor on p4550
Hello,

Thanks.

That is exactly the same problem as I am having. I can't seem to get the keyboard to light up in complete darkness. My other devices never had this problem. The backlight would come on in darkness. Any suggestions?

Most of the time it works for me.. The easiest fix it to simply disable the light sensor. It works just like any other PPC then. If it is misbehaving a reboot will fix it for a while. I haven't actually had any problems for a bit now. I wonder if it has anything to do with the lock password bug? I did disable my lock password and haven't had any problems since.. might just be a coincidence. Wouldn't hurt to try that too just to see.
I tried to look if there is a fix on forums but with no sucess.
After a week of having at&t tilt once after using keyboard i slide it back but screen stays horizontal. anyone knows whats that all about?
Soft reset didnt work so far. i think it happend during wall charging when i started sending some messages.
So, after you reset, the phone boots in landscape? Or once you go landscape, you can't switch back? Either way, I think the kaiser uses a magnetic switch to sense the keyboard opening/closing. I don't have a definitive answer, but at least that's a starting point for some good ol' fashioned research.
yea, it doesnt want to go back from landscape. i thought wierd problem like this should be spotted before and i was hoping for a quick fix. phone is to new to have issues like this.
Swurv is right, the kaiser uses a magnetic switch to make the change between landscape and portrait. It sounds like the switch is sticking when you open it. I don't know of any way to fix it, you might have more luck returning it and getting another. Good luck.
It isn't going to actually fix the issue, but you should be able to get around it till you can swap the device : Start --> Settings --> System --> Screen and select the Portrait orientation
Best of luck getting a replacement, hope its smooth sailing.
Got curious about the magnetic switch and figured out where the magnet itself is located- If you have your screen open and tilted all the way forward, the magnet is on the back side of the screen, on the same corner where the front OK button and the messaging button are.

Hey. this actually restored my original settings. It works now just like new!
I switched setting to "portrait". Never touched this option before.
Thanx man. Thnx all you guys for your time.
My phone panel broke, so i decided to get replacement panels.
So i did the switching, but when the phone turns on, it's always on Landscape mode.
It doesn't respond to close/open of the keyboard.
Does anyone know how i can fix this? where is the sensor located and how do i make it detect the slider operation?
So I managed to drop my phone the other day. I've noticed that since the drop it wont rotate to portrait mode. I'm 99.9% positive that it is a hardware problem. If I hold the phone upright and open the keyboard about 1/4th of an inch it will rotate. So I'm guessing that its a problem within.
So now for the question. On CM5.0.8T4 Is there a way to disable the rotation when the keyboard is out? Basically giving the accelerometer full control of orientation.
Sorry if this is in another place, I've been searching for days now and haven't found any solution.
Thanks.
Anyone? I'm interested in this as well...
Hiya folks. Running CM10.1 stable on my targa (aka Droid Bionic). It was beautiful except for lack of nav dock support, a problematic Google Now (different problem, with workaround), and this particular problem, which I hope someone know what I am talking about...
When a call comes in and I answer by the slider, the screen goes black, whether or not I held the phone up to my head.
I cannot turn the screen back on. None of the buttons seem to do anything, though backlight for the 4 hard buttons does turn on indicating that some command was received by the touchscreen. Not even the power button will bring the screen back during the call.
If the other party hangs up, the phone goes back to normal.
With screen off, I can't hang up.
I can hang up if my Bluetooth headset was connected and I hang up with that.
I've searched all over and this issue seem to be a pretty popular issue last December across all CM 10 builds. However, I don't know if this was ever resolved for this build.
I can't find an option in the ROM to just flat "turn off face proximity detection" either. Or in any way to "tweak" it.
CPU-Z says my proximity sensor is working, so I guess it's just not calibrated properly for the dialer?
Can we get a "special hidden tweaker" much like the light sensor tweak for the auto-brightness levels?
Figured it out. It wasn't CM. It was Screebl and the stupid orientation sensor, and how the Launcher is fixed to portrait mode.
I think I had my phone laid down and it's at a diagonal so it's in landscape mode, and the phone's fine with that when it's just showing contacts. Screebl kicks in and determines that landscape, phone orientation says stay on, so screen stayed on. It was set to turn off the screen IMMEDIATELY when the orientation goes out of "viewing range". (Saving batteries, ya know).
When the call was answered, Screebl should have turned itself off (i.e. ignore input while call is in progress). But it didn't. The "answer the phone" screen flipped the display back to portrait mode. The phone, still laid flat, in "landscape", is now "out of viewing range", and Screebl turned off the screen.
Strange interaction among the various apps, yes.
I'm still trying to figure out how to make my Bionic, with extended battery last the whole day. Juicedefender Ultimate somehow just keeps turning the screen back on every X seconds (taking root control for SOMETHING) and Wakelock detector says the phone is not going into enough deep sleep (kinda like me, hahaha)
