How to make your NB into a NBH

So, you're created a nice ROM but you're tired of the inconsistencies of Aserg's flashing ways? Worry no more.
Step 1. Download this. I've been using an older version... but I'll try this one when I get home.
Step 2. Make sure your ROM is at LEAST 51.2MB big. If not, pad it with some apps. Set the program to Herald and on the System section, set it to read your ROM file.
Step 3. Download any ROM that uses an NBH. OpenTouch for example. Remove their NBH and place your NBH in its place. Don't worry about the name of the nbh.
Step 4. Place the phone into flight mode.
Step 5. Run the USPL.
Enjoy.
If you install things this way, it repartitions the storage partition for more space.
Also... well... I have a theory... I'll try it first before I talk about it.

There has been so much discussion about USPL... Which version is safe to use ? Are there different versions for herald and wing?

No. There's only one version for both of them. It's safe because it doesn't touch your real boot loader. It loads a temporary boot loader into memory instead. HardSPL is not safe.

True. As long as the phone doesn't break because the warranty won't cover it if they test it and realize that the SPL has been changed. Also, you don't have to create custom RUUs. The thing about HardSPL that I don't like is that all to many people permanently brick their devices with it. It works great for those it works for. But that's not every body. I wish I could try it on my phone but I can't risk it.

how do u put a nbh rom, file or wat ever its called lolz on the wing?

Simply use a RUU installer
BTW I just checked and there is a sticky thread in the Herald forum especially for newbies and there it is shown how to handle NBH files.
Whatever goes for Herald basically goes for Wings so don't worry

Ok.. not to put the nail in the coffin, but I have a few issues that I'm sure someone here can help me with. I hope.
NBH file: So I extract it as it shows in the wiki, then i end up with some splash nb and a 01_OS.nb or something.
So, I look back through my other roms and find the 2.2 touch-wing rom had in it an OS.nb, so I assume that maybe I can just replace that? But what of the other .nb?
Seriously, is there anyone who can zip up a package that includes all but the NBH? I've bricked a phone before, as I'm semi tech-retarded.. this would be a great help to me.

lol.. good point.. I'm just trying to try a new rom.. I have open touch 2.2 or something for my wing. I was looking to do the new version but I get as far as extracting files from the NBH and have no clue where to go next.

Hi,
Are you trying to flash a new rom or recook a rom?

flash a new rom

Here is the WING's RomUpdateUtilty (minus the nbh)
Here is the "FLASH CENTER" (U-SPL)
You should be able to use either of those to flash the Rom onto your phone.
My suggestion is ... follow the instructions that came with the ROM NBH you're trying to install.

I find unless you are a forum junkie here, it's easy to get lost in a month or two.

How To Remove Hard-SPL from Tmo Wing

After toying around for hours, I've finally figured out a way to remove/overwrite Hard-SPL
First thing you'll need is HERALD-USPL-beta3
and the Second would be Stock Rom T-Mobile
Unzip the Stock Rom, which will be .exe file. Extract the .exe file into a folder.
Inside that folder copy the SPL.nbh and the RUU_sighned.nbh file.
Now extract the USPL file which should have a Flash Center folder. Inside that folder is a RUU folder. Paste those two files into this folder.
Go back to the root of the Flash Center and run herald-uspl.exe
Follow all on screen instructions. And Booooom, your done. This will also flash the Stock rom back too.
This has only been tested with the Tmo Wing, but could possibly work on other phones.
I am not liable if you should happen to brick your phone, and good luck

I can confirm that the soloution above works on a swedish unbranded p4350 using the stock WM6 ROM from HTC e-club. I went from HarldSPL + Opentouch 3.0 to stock ROM just to give it a try in case I need to envoke warranty. Now I´m back with OT3 & HSPL.

holy shizz. I had a cooked rom running and decided to flash back to stock just to see if it works and I think I hit a bump Its at step 3/3 and nothing is happening screen on phone is white. Is it bricked????

manicallyhappy, are you asking WHERE they are? they are located physically INSIDE the executable. You will have to use something like 7-zip to extract them and you WILL have to use the USPL to de-HardSPL.
David_p, as far i know, it doesn't, but the first thing USPL should do is put your phone in bootloader, so you might as well save it some work?

Yes. Do a hard reset on the device, do a soft reset BEFORE the extROM start loading. Then open up a registry editor, like PHM regedit, then delete... well, there's a lot of stuff, but I can't remember it all off the top of my head since I haven't messed around with the default ROM for so long. Look in the INIT section of HMLK and the services section... etc etc. It won't run as fast as it can simply because of all the files that are in the file system, but it will be a lot faster.

Hi I am a noob and I was wondering about this situation. i went into the flash folder and into the ruu folder. it says to past those two files into another folder but i have many different files not two which one do i use? Please help thanks in advance

Fooling the SE-Software update to install different language

Hi all!
I assume that the SE update-app is the same for all languages, and phone models. What came into my mind is that the app at some point decides what language-version the phone is provided with. Now if i could somehow trick the update-app to think the phone has a different language installed, then it would simply download and install an other language instead...
has anyone thought anything about this approach?

there is no use in doing this because every original rom in every language you can download right here at xda

Well, i have no use of this, because i can't find a tool to re-flash the phone with these roms.. So the easiest thing would be to just tweak the Update application, and let this app do the job..

the easiest way would be
download original rom in your desired language (links can be found here at xda)
put it on youre sd card an install it.

follow steps. Unless you have windows 7, then you need to install some alternate drivers or run a virtual XP and from there install it.
Then go here: http://www.rapidgsm.com/sony-ericsson/xperia-x1-software-download-free/
Pick what ever rom you want, or any rom from the forum, place it on your sd card and rename it tho kovsimg.nbh.
Backup all stuff you don't want to lose!!!
shut down phone, press the left and right silver buttons, simultaneously with the power button, keep them all pressed until you feel the phone vibrating, then release the power button, follow onscreen instructions.
Done

ADB 4 Dummies (this will get ADB up and running on either linux, windows or mac w/ step by step instruction for all)
G1 Root / Upgrade Tutorial - this will root, upgrade recovery, upgrade radio, upgrade spl, partition your sdcard and install the newest cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1.

I started reading through that, downloading the files that it said to download but I'm stuck at the "1.6 Recovery Image" file. The link goes to a page that offers files for the Android DevPhone, but I just have a normal TMobile G1. What file am I supposed to use?

the 32b version of the Dream is the t-mo G1 AND the ADP1 (dev phone) only diff is one came with a diff SPL, and some cool graphics

This works perfect. includes all files needed and easy to follow tutorial. By the time you're done you'll need to do nothing else.

You're kidding, right? When I tried that upgrade tutorial (the one at myhangoutonline.com) *none* of the files were available for download. Every single one I clicked on went to a "404" page.

I apologize, stupid SEO plugin was rewriting the url and messing up a seperate plugin. Links are now working if you still need to upgrade.
My tutorial shows you how to root and upgrade everything and install cyanogenmod 4.2.15.1 if you want to try the 2.1 version which is in testing, go to the cyanogenmod repository on my site, go into the testing folder for the G1 and download that rom instead. Use that rom instead of 4.2.15.1 as the final step.

Just put the 1.6 on then you can flash 2.1 found HERE

Well, so far so good, with some minor hiccups:
During the downgrade your phone step, when the phone says "Press the action key" after step 6, it's talking about the trackball button. Took me a little while to figure that out.
However, after I pressed it, it just went back to the initial multicolor gradient screen, with the addition of a line in the middle that said "Serial0". (maybe it was there before, but I missed it?) I ended up having to pull the battery because I could figure out how to make it reboot.
After reboot I had to go through the Google sign in process. Not a big deal, but it'd be nice to mention that this is necessary.
Upgrading recovery seemed to go pretty much as described. On to the apparent dangerous step of upgrading the radio & spl!

Uh oh! It looks like something didn't work. I started up in recovery mode, but there's no option in the menu for "Mount SD card".
I tried going to console, then "ls /sdcard", but no files show up, and /sdcard doesn't show up as a mounted filesystem when I run "mount".
I couldn't figure out how to get out of the console ("exit" just took me back to a "press enter" prompt, and then back into the console), so I ended up pulling the battery again.
Now what? Should I try upgrading recovery again?
