I have had the same results on three seperate phones.
All three phones have the following Device Information:
ROM version: 1.56.421.1
ROM date: 10/26/07
Radio version: 1.27.15.32
Protocol version: 22.51.88.13H
The phones exhibit a number of problems:
1) Phones hang when locked, which stops all incoming calls. Can only recover by resetting phone. This makes the phones unusable while travelling.
2) Phones reboot without warning.
3) Phone does not charge from USB port under certain conditions. This happens when the phone is used to connect to the internet (Internet Sharing).
4) Battery does not last a day under normal usage. (Seems to be a common problem on this forum)
The main problem that is causing us the most concern is the locking up problem. We are NOT able to receive phone calls when the phone is in this state.
The symptom:
The screen cannot be activated after the power button is pressed. It is as if the phone is powered off although the LED is still flashing (slowly) indicating that the phone is still powered on.
This generally occurs after the phone is locked, the screen is switched off by briefly pressing the power button, and the phone is not in use for a while (+- 10 min).
The cure:
The power switch has no affect. The only way to get the phone to switch on is to press the reset switch at the bottom of the phone and then press the power button.
Leaf have:
a) Reloaded the ROM’s on both phones.
b) Replaced the board on one phone.
c) Replaced the phone in b) with a new phone.
None of these actions has resolved the problem.
Has anyone had similar problems?
Who do we contact to get this fixed?
Your help will be most appreciated.
Tony
What is htc gonna do about this?
Also having the problems you described except for "1) Phone hang when locked, which stops all incoming calls." By locked do you mean that the phone is simply in sleep mode or do you mean that you lock the phone first by holding "END CALL" for 3sec and then pressing the power button into sleep mode? I’ve tried all manner of combinations, but cannot recreate this prob on my device.
Device restarts unassisted up to 4 times a day
Sometimes stops charging over usb while internet connection sharing is active.
Battery lasts about 36hours with only a few minutes of phone calls and downloading email two - three times.
I have a theory that the reboot problem might be heat related? Seen it happen a couple times while device goes from 3G to hsdpa?
I did a hard reset on my tytnII last night. I want to see if some of these problems might be software related.
My tytn II:
ROM version: 1.56.421.1
ROM date: 10/26/07
Radio version: 1.27.15.32
Protocol version: 22.51.88.13H
My phone is also a Leaf SA model with the same the same ROM loaded.
My phone seems to be OK on that front.
I think this is a perfect opportunity to get a refund. That's what I would do due to all the other major video drivers defects this model has.
Are you on Vodacom or MTN. Maybe look at the network as well.
Thanks for the responses
Yes the phone is locked by first holding "END CALL" for 3sec and then pressing the power button into sleep mode.

Hi,
Does anyone know of an application which can be used to toggle power (i.e. activate & deactivate) to the phone without 'tapping' on the phone Icon ?
Alternatively, does anyone know how to do it ? - extended Tapi commands ?
Thanks.
I dont know of any application - but you can turn the phone on and off by holding down the "hang up" hardware button to the right of the d-pad at the bottom of the screen for a few seconds.
Actually, this doesn't seem to completely turn off the *whole* radio I don't believe. It may turn off the RF portion, but it doesn't do everthing.
In the early versions of the T-Mobile PPCPE on the USA network, my device (and others) would frequently give up making and receiving calls etc. Turning the radio off/on or doing a soft reset sometimes helped, but interestingly opening the SIM door would always do the business. It appears that opening the SIM door powers down even more of the radio side of the phone, and (obviously) makes it do more afterward like re-reading the SIM etc.
Anyway...just thought I'd throw that observation out there ...
cheers,
..lance
I've done the upgrade by few days, and i've discovered this strange behaviours (don't know if they are already known):
-When i remove and put again the battery on the boot i see
R none
G none
D 5.xxxxx
so radio is disabled,
doing a soft reset repair the situation.
-Occasionally when i turn on flight mode, the phone goes off, and after few seconds it returns on automatically. Sometimes instead, the phone goes off, but the right green led continues to blink.
-When sound is off or volume is 0, and i receive a flash sms message (i've not tested with other events) the event sound play anyway (very annoying).
I have seen the first two problems (I'm using Antz ROM at the moment). I think they are both related...it's as though the ohone itself is crashing and WM5 cannot talk to it, which would explain the lack of driver version numbers on the reset. I had both after messing around with flight mode. It took a power down, wait 15 sec, then soft-reset to get me going.
I suspect it may be something to do with activating flightmode while wireless is on, but that is a complete guess.

Mmm, i think not, because i've discovered while wireless was off.
However i think that the worst problem is the sound playing when volume is 0...
Check those two:

I am using the 'standard' WM5 version, and this 'radio none' thing happens to me too when I remove the battery, so I guess it's WM5 related...
anyway soft resetting again works for me too
when i turn the screen off (pressing the sleep button or letting itself turn off after the required time) it wont wake up again and i have to take the battery out or do a hard reset. anyone know whats happening
are you pressing the power button or one of the others?
think it defaults to the power button unless you change it to any button

Has this issue been resolved? Seeing this happening more and more now. Without very consistency, I'm suspecting it happens more when you let it sleep with the wifi on and connected to a router.. or it can be the touchflo3d....
TF3D is a known culprit for this issue.
It has happened only on time to me (so far). I'm using the stock ROM with no TF3D. The time it happened i had the earphones and the charger plugged in. lol?
Ok, just happened to me for the 2nd time today.
NO:
Wifi
Bluetooth
In airplane mode (all radio off)
YES:
USB connected to my Mac
running SyncMate on Mac and driver on the X1
TouchFlo3D
Ok...
Just happened again when I was waiting for a important phone call...
YES:
Wifi to my router (Apple Airport)
Bluetooth on to my Sony stereo headset
Touchflo3D
Stock UK R1A ROM
NO:
Not connected to my Mac
I'm guessing it locked up 1-2 hr after the stock alarm woke me up, I turn it off and put the phone to sleep. Hard to believe its memory related as the phone was freshly soft-rest right before I went to sleep.
So something randomly happened or there was a massive memory leak with touchflo3d over night even in sleep mode!
I've to admit this is a unpopular thread.. am I the one of the only few having this problem reoccurring?
I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.
The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.
Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2where the resolution was to get a new SIM.
Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.
Hi i have a few issues on my diamond. I hope you guys could help..
1st issue: lately my diamond keeps on resetting by itself.
2nd issue: later I've learned that when I record my voice using the software within the ROM, I don't hear anything but when I record my voice using my htc headset/earphones there is a sound.
What I did was:
This day I've flashed a new rom (Energy Rom) into my Diamond. It works ok then I flashed the Radio (Radio_1.13.25.24). I was able to use my diamond for a few hours.
Now..
3rd issue: My diamond is not powering on..
What i did before this happened was...
I pressed and hold the power button for about a few seconds so the ShutXP would pop up and I could soft reset my diamond. Before I clicked the soft reset button, I was checking out all the functions of it. then i clicked, a little icon, which is the Setup Timer Action. Here's the setup:
Action: Turn Off Pocket PC
In: (i don't exactly have seen the time indicated)
As curious as i am, I Clicked the Set Action button. It did shut my diamond off. Then I tried turning it on, but all it was doing was vibrate and the screen was black. At first I was hearing the start up sound a few times but later it didn't hear it anymore. I plugged in the charger but there's no white light on the circle button which used to have a light on the borders of the circle button when plugged in the usb cable. I tried pressing the power button plus the Volume down so the bootloader would appear but it did not. What shall I do?
Are you sure that the screen working because the phone vibrate and play the startup sound so if think its the screen that have som serious problem !!
HELP
I also flashed a new rom (Energy Rom) into my Diamond before.
It cannot run window mobile6.5.........how can I do???
I cannot connect to PC .......
I recently also had a similiar problem, after attempting a flash of the Rom, the ROM update stopped halfway through and reported that it had lost connection to the device....
The whole phone would not vibrate/power on, nothing - no glowing ring around the middle button to indicate it charging at all.
I had to return to the repair centre and somehow they didn't notice that I had modified the firmware and replaced the whole phone for free citing a hardware issue ...
Doesnt sound good if you cannot hard reset the device
I have my HD7 and sometimes the screen is on but dark and when I push the power button it will not go into standby and the back light does not come on. I have to pull out the battery and it will function for a while but once I plug the phone in to charge the problem is replicated. Is this common and is there a fix?

Copy all the info in the about box
settings -> about
OS Version

etc...
is it a custom rom?
"sometimes the screen is on but dark" with this... is more like a faulty lcd, just replace that LCD... can you see the graphics but the light is gone...
Waiting for your reply.

And yes you can still see the image but the backlight will not come on when I press the power button.
Similar issue
I think I'm having the very same problem. My HD7 is set to dim after 45 seconds and lock after another 15.
The screen will dim, but will not lock (even while pressing the lock button). Inversely, sometimes when it's locked, I can't get the screen to come back on (no matter how much I press the lock button).
It also seems to affect wireless connectivity and generally functionality of the phone.
I think it stops processing any new tasks or information when this happens, haven't a baldy why.
So far my solution has been to take the battery out, put it back in and switch on again.
This generally happens 10 - 12 times a day to me. Sometimes it doesn't happen at all...It's irritating.
OS Version: 7.10.8858.136

I should also mention, this had started happening BEFORE I installed Deepshining.
My HD7 finally broke down
and i had this problem . the power button has become too depressed in after usage for so long .
u have to unscrew the phone and lift up the power button and align it in place
So Far its working
For some reason when I turn on Wifi I get this problem more frequnelty. Now that I have turned it off the phone is behaving a little better. The phone will switch off and not freeze up. I don't know what the problem is.
Same again.

I actually came to your thread with the intention of posting the exact same results. When I turn wifi off the issues seems to stop for a while.
Interestingly, sometimes I can't get the phone to access the wifi section in my settings to switch it off.
I plan on taking her apart and checking if its antenna is screwed up in any way, will post back if I find anything.
Please let me know.
