I'm having problems again with my messaging system on my phone (Picture messages aren't coming through. Normal ones come through but pictures ones don't. Kinda weird and this happend before and the only thing I could do was a hardreset). I purchased sprite backup and plan on doing a hard reset now to fix things. My question is the way my phone is now it has sprite back up on it. When I do the hardreset will the sprite back up on my comp be smart enough to reload the phone with what it needs to do the restore? Any feedback on this would be awesome and thanks in advance. Also is anyone knows how to fix the messaging system on this phone (8925 aka tilt) without doing the restore thing that would be great also. Thanks!
sprite might back up the problem. So after you hard reset and reload the backup you may have just reloaded the problem as well.
I was worried about that. Maybe i'll just take the time to reinstall everything. I'd hate to go that route though...

Ok, this has happened to me several times and i have never figured out why this has happened.
today i went to school and since we were having a test i turned my tilt off. after the test i turned my phone on. the tilt went through the normal boot (but i didnt see the att animation). then it went to the phone setup/align screen stuff, this is when i relized im screwed. after that i reset (to avoid the reinstall of the att software).
so the over all damage done is, my registry seems to have been competely erased. all my settings are lost, but as far as i can see all my files are there.
has this happened to anyone else, or does anyone have an idea what caused this? the only thing i could remember that is a cause of worry is that my main phone memory was down to about 2.3mb.
if its possible to get registry back please help, but really the only thing i want to know is how to prevent this after i hard reset and start to rebuild
:-(
are you using a fancy rom or a boring one?

Boring normal ATT rom, i have just seen to many problems with others....
maybe try the new updated one?
saying this probably doesn't help u much, but i had the same thing happen to me too, except i didn't turn it off or anything special. I just rebooted and lost the registry like you did. I don't think its your free memory though, i had over 40mb free when it happened to mine.
Nothing you can do except backup nightly so you can be prepared for next time.
If you're using the AT&T ROMs, Sprite Backup is installed by default.
Hope this helps!

Buy a MicroSD Card, they are relatively cheap, you can tell the backup program to only keep a certian number of back-ups (I keep 5). It also comes in handy if you want to try a new Rom.
You can also auto reset the device after the back-up it helps with stability.
After many months of trouble free use I seem to have hit a number of issues and wonder if anyone has any suggestions. I will list them below. I don't know if they are related:-
1 The device will not switch on until either connected to the mains and/or soft reset.
2 Sudden unexpected draining of battery.
3 Random backlight changes not connected to the settings made
4 Cannot be synced with laptop Error of replog.exe
5 Battery indicators shows charging when not attached to mains.
Quite a list and rather disappointing after such trouble free previous use.

time to get a replacement
I'd hope to get more than three month's use out of a £400 plus piece of kit!!!
3 Random backlight changes not connected to the settings made
this one could be because of Phone Alarm if u have that installed
Your right, you should not have to "brick" your phone!
If you've done any mods like ROM's etc...I am of no help. As tempting as those are, I dont need the headaches that, with my luck, may happen! Thus I've avoided those completely. My Kaiser is 6 months old.
Things I would try...
Hard Reset after you backed up any data ( if possible )
If you are using Sprite Backup you can recover a previously saved system state and apps prior to your problem start date.
Your battery may be croaking causing the backlight/charging problems. Try running without the battery.
Re-install Active Sync...
Remove the SD card and see if that is causing problems
Contact HTC and/or wait till someone smarter than me chimes in
Good luck, and I hope you get it back up and stable
Thanks for the suggestions.
I never managed to get Sprite tp work so I am trying to avoid a hard reset but that may be the only option.
I suppose the reason I want to avoid this is the many programs I have on the device which of course may be causing the problems so it's a bit of a vicious circle.
I have a spare battery so I might try that.
I tried reinstalling Activsync without success.
As you say I may well have to contact HTC.
Anyway thanks for taking the time to reply.

Maybe you can get ActiveSync to work over bluetooth so you can at least back up what you need and then do a hard reset.
If a hard rest doesn't fix it i would then contact merchant/vendor to see if you can get warranty work done.
If you can't get warranty work done i would suggest flashing your ROM. You should be able to get Hard-SPL loaded and flash a ROM all from an SD card and not actually having to hook it up to your PC with active-sync.
Otherwise, if you don't want to take the risk I guess you'll have to live with the problems...but they sound pretty severe.
gl!
Didn't think of a bluetooth backup. Will try that.
Thanks for all the ideas.

be careful what you backup since the problems could be software based and restorin a backup containin these issues could put you back to where you left off
Will bear that in mind thanks

No. If you sync it with your Outlook, or make a backup with Pim Backup (PPCP Pim Backup) which I think you can find easily on this forum or using Google, you can place it back after a hard reset.
ohh.... i see. only hard reset?! awww, seriously i dont know anything abt these tech stuffs and its such a pain in a ass to use this kind of touch phone. especially when u are new to it. anyway, if i sign my mobile with starhub mobile plan, then does it means that i have the warranty already?
Guess ur another 'lucky' one. I had the same problem few days ago. A hard reset was the only solution. It seems like a software issue. Maybe the template somehow cannot be loaded properly. That's why it's not working. But do back up ur data and stuff before you reset. It kills the stuff in the main memory but surprisingly all the stuff (including pics and stuff) in my Internal Storage remained intact.
Its caused by the CE-star, reinstall and register it will solve the problem..
donlt need to do hard reset.
I had that problem, solved it when i uninstalled CE-star
Hi there, i have faced some problem here when i wanted to restore back my settings through KIES after i updated my firmware to LA1 using KIES too. i have not rooted my Gnote.
The problem is that it will take a LONG LONG time when restoring the 'miscellaneous content files'?
Anyone faced this before...Really appreciate your help...Thanks...
Yes! Very similar problem, if you replace 'a very long time' with 'a ridiculous amount of time'. It gets stuck around 76% and then just stops. As I've found with samsung software - it never actually tells you what it's doing, it just fails to do it.
My only solution thus far is to do the restore and deselect miscellaneous content files. Then the restore works fine. Unfortunately that means I've lost all my apps, and probably a lot of other stuff I'd really quite like. Going to call Samsung in the morning and see if they have an answer. Will post back if they say anything useful.
Restoring through Kies doesn't work
I'm having the same problem. I mean, how the heck are we supposed to back up our devices??
I had done a factory reset on my Note (for unrelated reasons) and backed everything up through Kies. But when I went to restore everything, NOTHING got restored at all, even though Kies said that the restoration was successful.
I've never had a problem backing up any of my phones in the past, and I don't know why it's so difficult with the Note. I'm looking forward to ICS coming out, but it's going to be a pain in the rear if I have to manually restore everything on my phone again.
Suggestions anyone? (My phone isn't rooted either)

Probably what we can do is to deselect the misc content files. To avoid losing the apps, we can use some software inside market such as apps backup & restore. That will settle both the problems of backup and restore.

You can refer to above.
It is more recommended to root your SGN and use titanium backup as the backup tools. Everything can be backup from using titanium backup.
I installed that update that upgraded the phone to 4.4.3 and enabled Wi-Fi calling about a week ago. And since then, the SMS app has been incredibly laggy to the point where it is near unusable. I am not exaggerating, it takes literally about 20 seconds from me tapping a letter, for the phone to vibrate that it recognized I touched the screen and display the letter on the screen.
I know that internally the SMS is working fine since I can get replies back on my Pebble before the message I sent that they are replying too even appears on my screen.
Also, this only happens to specific contacts, but always the same ones.
Everything was working perfectly before this update, but directly after installing it this happened. Any ideas?

Backup & do a hard reset will take care of it. I always recommend doing a hard reset after any kinda of big update anyway. I would also do a profile update once the hard reset is complete. There was some issues with connectivity for this update that a profile update should take care of, although it's not going to solve your sms problem.

It's possible, doesn't really hurt to try. I usually try and restore as little data as possible and do everything by hand. One thing you can do if you wanna keep your sms, is export it, then import sms only back in after the rest. I have had good luck with it. Certain apps I use titanium backup to restore, but a lot of stuff I do by hand. I have tried HTC's backup on a friends phone, it actually worked better than I thought. Sometimes it's nice to not do a backup (other than like sms & photos) It will clear out the old apps you don't wanna use.
