Noticed Something with the Video/Graphics Driver Issue - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

For those of you that are running the original HTC WWE rom (1.56.405.5, radio 1.27.12.11), and have the 'HTC Home' on the today screen (i.e. the big clock with weather, favorites etc.) if you click on the "Launcher" tab, then click on the "Programs" button (if you have it saved), you will see the best and fastest scrolling you ever saw in your life while in the Programs area. But if you exit the Programs area to go back to the main screen, then click on the "start" tab, then go to "Programs", everything is slow and laggy again when scrolling.
I hope I explained this correctly. Maybe some genius out there can use this information to figure out why the scrolling is excellent when going into the Programs area using the "Launcher" on the HTC Home, and use it to develop something??
P.S. I only say the original HTC rom because that is what I am using and I don't know if others are experiencing this as well.

Very, Very nice find.
I can confirm this to work for:
- Dutty's WM6.1 BUILD 5.219716
- Radio 1.64.06.04 - 25.70.40.02H

yeah your right. also works for me with original rom. indeed a nice find.

I also thought it had something to do with video drivers initially, but unfortunately, it's just a different program which is launched from HTC Home.

Please help: 'HTC Homescreen' Confusion

I'm a windows mobile newbie and wasn't able to find the answer performing a forum search, so hoping someone here might be able to help me clear up my confusion between: 'HTC Homescreen', 'HTC homescreen plugin', and 'HTCHomeplug'.
When I go to: Start > Settings > Personal Tab > Today > Items Tab . . . both 'HTC Home' & 'HTCHomeplug' appear as items of which can be checked/unchecked.
It's my understanding that the Tilt includes only the at&t version of the HTC homescreen (today), and that changing it to look like the original Kaiser's requires installing an 'HTC homescreen plugin'. After installing a 'HTC homescreen plugin', 'HTC HTC Home' now appears in the Tilt's 'Remove Programs' option list: Start > Settings > System > Remove Programs.
Questions:
1) If the "HTC HTC Home" program is removed, will the (today) homescreen then revert back to the at&t version of the homescreen again? If not, how (short of performing a hard reset) can the at&t version be reinstalled again?
2) Is it also recommended that "HTC HTC Home" be removed BEFORE installing any subsequent 'HTC homescreen' plugins?
3) In addition, it's my understanding that the 'HTCHomeplug' merely displays icons for battery level & screen orientation so pretty much redundant to include on the Today Screen, as these functions are already included in the available 5/6 tab HTC homescreen plugins. Are there any special functions/features in the 'HTCHomeplug' not avaialble in an 'HTC Homescreen' plugin?
Thanks for all feedback and advice.
Jazz
I think you are a little bit mixed up, or at least I was reading that.
The one that comes with the Tilt: "HTCHomeplug"
The one that comes with the Kaiser: "HTC Home"
The HTCHomeplug cannot be un-installed thru Start>settings>remove programs. The only way the remove the HTCHomeplug is to either manually delete the files or install a cooked ROM.
To answer your first question, the HTCHomeplug is not dependent on the HTC Home add-on whatsoever. If you remove the HTC Home add-on it will not revert back to the HTCHomeplug unless you tell it to. The HTCHomeplug can be displayed at any time, even if HTC Home is installed, they 2 completely separate programs.
marm0lade,
Yep, apparently I was 'completely' mixed up about all that, so a great big thanks to you for straightening me out with the clear explanation.
Now, if I can only get my (6 tab) HTC Home plugin's: pic-touch call feature (home screen tab: 2nd to left) to link to another phone number in the contact's list other than their 'mobile phone number. Is this simply a problem only with the version of HTC Homescreen I installed, or is this a universal limitation of all 'HTC home' plugins?

I don't know about linking directly to another number, but if you click and hold on the contact, it will open their entry in the contact list, allowing you to choose a different number (or send sms/mms/email).

As a PocketPC Phone & WM newbie with very much to discover & learn from the experts here about cooked Roms etc, I too opted not to flash my Tilt's rom (yet) either. On the other hand, I removed all at&t bloatware, and thus freeing up LOTS of on board memory, by performing a hard reset, and then pressing the reset button during the 3 second countdown, right before the at&t bloatware gets installed.
After that, I got 'HTC Home' d/l link (here) of which also includes two other cab files (Cert_SPCS & sdcerts) to utilize only if you have installation problems. Because I had no problems, I only needed to copy the "Kaiser.HTC.Home.v2.0.814.722-schen.cab" Cab file to the tilt, and then use the file browser point to the cab and install it. After installing, I performed a soft reset, and now have both an impressive looking & customizable HTC Home screen. This version of "HTC Home" is definitely a keeper.
Jazz.
sooo...does this mean i can just install a htc theme over everything else? or do i have to do the hard rest/soft/etc etc?

Grandsuke: unlike the HTC Kaiser, the Tilt doesn't come preloaded with "HTC Home" , so if you've not installed it on your Tilt before, go ahead & simply install without a hard/soft reset. For people who've already installed another version of "HTC Home" on their Tilt, I'd recommend removing it first, then perform a soft reset, and then reinstall the new version of "HTC Home". Jazz
Can this be used on other HTC or WM5 products like the Cingular 3125 (Star 100) which is the smartphone edition?

ToucFlo on Tmo rom?

I have just gone from using an MDA (Wizard) to a Wing. The only thing I'm really missing is what I think is called touchflo, ie, the today screen that has the time really big, or picture dialing, or weather, or apps. Can I install this on the phone, or do I need to get a custom rom? I'm liking (so far 12 hours into it) the tmo rom, after adding batterystatus and totalcommander etc, it's running smooth.
What you're talking about isint "touchflo". You're talking about "HTC home" it sounds like. There are .cabs on here for HTC home, just search for it.

Wizard with WM6 How do I get the HTC Plugin to Work?

I have searched the forums until my eyes bleed, I have downloaded and downloaded but still it does not work.
Does anyone have HTC Home Plugin cab files for the following?
MDA Vario/Wizard running WM6
I have managed to get the HTC Home Plug-in to appear in the Today Options screen and I have installed the HTC HomePlug-in customizer and run it but still nothing appears on my Today screen.
If anyone has managed to get the HTC Home Plug-in running on a Wizard with WM6 then please point me at the files I need.
Many thanks in advance.
Mick
try this one

file not found...plz look into it
Yep, duff link. Could you please send me another link to the pulgin and a compatible HTC Plugin customizer. (Could you post the file here please, at work and Rapid Share is blocked)
Many thanks for your help
Mick (St.Helens, Merseyside)
I am not sure but I remember I picked up somewhere here that the home plugin does not work properly if installed as cab rather than included in the ROM.
You may check it.

Hi,
if i right know, give's 2 versions: light witout HTC-programs and a professional version within HTC-programs. (so i found this 2 versions for german WM6)
May be, that you need the WM6 professional version with integrated HTC-tool-programs.
Frank
Hello
I reverted to WM5 by using this ROM:

Works great. Thanks for your help everybody.

Just use the HTC Home that is version 1.5, it works on WM5 and WM6. I installed it on my device using the cab, and modded it no prob. I run the Jag rom and have no issues. HTC Home above 1.5 don't always play nice unless they are cooked into the rom.
HTC Home v1.5
where can i get it for download?
greetings Frank
v1.5 also not works/displayed
i have found it and install the HTC home v1.5 on my device.
But it's also not work: clear scren, were the HTC home-screen should be to displayed...
i capitulate...
HTC Home for Wizard
Here try this one and make sure you uninstall any other version you have and have soft reset before installing
I also tried to attach the Home customiser but it kept failing so i have uploaded it to rapidshare
http://rapidshare.com/files/86916021/HHCv08b_1_.cab
it's work!
scousemartin, great thanks!
The HTC Home plugin now works! I be so happy...
What was my error by all the other versions and installations?
I think it's was partially not compatible to WM5 or the installations was incompletely. So i install in the last an older configurator...
I don't know, what was the error...
Gives ther some tips for setting other funktions for the icons, so i can to determine all open programs by one klick in the HTC Home Plugin?
over again great thanks to scousemartin!
PS:
one other question above HTC Home plugin:
In the top on left the screen shows the provider-network. So by me it's Vodafone.de.
If i power up my device (i'm at home), so it's show shortly "vodafone.de" and than for under one second "home" and than again permanently "vodafone.de".
I think, if i be in my homezone "vodafone at home" the HTC home-plugin is shortly signaled "home" by power up the device. If it right, that the HTC home-Plugin can show the "home-zone", so is the signalisation to short.
Give's ther an trick to show the Signalisation of "home-zone" permanently or that the plugin can showes it by permanently switch the displaying between Network-provider and signaled "home" or a other way to display the homezone if i be in my homezone?
Thanks for inside informations!
Frank
That was the only one i could get to work for the wizard to,glad you are happy, as for a task manager ,to show you all running programs, just add it to the program tab of htc home and then you can just click it to show up all running programs, or install Battstatus, that has a task manager built into it ,or use x-button
"home" signalisation included?
Thanks, i will test the programs or plugins for end all open programs by on click in the next time.
but... what is with the signalisation "home"? It is right, that HTC home can display the homezone (only very shortly) or it is a false interpretation, that is was short displayed "home" by power on the device (if i be in my homezone)?
Gives there an option, that it can displayed a longer time as under one second?
additionaly:
Oh, "home" was not by each swith-on displayed! Is my device longer time switched off (standby), than showes "home", if i switch from on to off and afresh on (also from the second switch-on).
Frank
Edit: I posted in the wrong section. my mistake.
Can v1.5 be installed if v1.0 is in the ROM?
This looks interesting. I'm running Octaivoi v6 which has a built-in HTC Home. I assume it's v1 although I don't really know.
Do you think there is a way to switch to v1.5? There is no way to uninstall the HTC Home from the ROM, of course...
Many thanks, man!

a experiment:
go into the registry: HKLM-SOFTWARE-HTC and delete the entry HTCHome. Make sure, that you have make a registry-backup, before you delete the entry.
Make a softreset.
If now the HTCHome-display not shows, look to start-settings-home-elements whether there still the entry "HTC Home".
If not, so test the setup of HTCHome 1.5, if the setup can now overwrite the older files or if it got an error-message.
May be, that you must have the extracted files and copy it manualy.
How i said: It's an experiment! May be that it works, may be, that it not works...
If the newer files not can be to copying, than restore the registry, so that the older HTCHome-Plugin again can works.

No HTC Home settings tab after official 6.1 upgrade

Hi,
After upgrading my phone to the official 6.1 ROM, I no longer have the HTC home tab under Settings -> Today. I do have the plug-in enabled under 'Items', but am unable to configure anything.
Any ideas?
Thanks.

I have no problems with mine!
Did u flash from the OEM WM6 or a cooked ROM? If you were using a cooked ROM , see if changing back to your OEM SPL will assist.
I suggest u Hard reset and if that still does'nt work reflash with a freshly downloaded OEM ROM.
I have had no problems with my HTC WM 6.1 ROM at all.
The touch screen seems less responsive though.
I have noticed lags in 6.1 both using the on screen and the hardware keyboard. But that's actually nothing compared to an annoying "press OK to continue loading the contents of this page" and some other PIE-based troubles.

That settings tab is a feature of some cooked ROMs. Since you're using the official ROM, you won't see it.
HTC Home version 2.1.1005.722 has the settings/personal/today tab. Good luck finding it as a cab.

I am not using a cooked ROM. I'm using the official HTC downloadable update for the Kaiser, and I can enable the HTC Home under Settings/Today/Items . It doesn't have (doesn't need) any options. I also see the HTCHomeplug (quite useless, but works if I turn it on). I also have HTC Plus! , much better than the HTChomeplug, don't remember where I downloaded it from, worked on 6.0 and works perfectly under 6.1.
I'm using dutty's April 29th rom and i also dont have the settings, i dont want the weather icon.
There are third-party utilities that let you customize the HTC home. I have used one called HHC, very nice.
I have HTC Home Customizer but it makes my HTC home buttons look older. Currently i have the "bubble" looking onces, they are more transparent and round, if i use HHC it makes it go back to the old blocky buttons.

Just install this http://rapidshare.com/files/70344158/HTC.Home.v2.1.1005.722.Directory.Fix.Only.schen.cab.zip
And you'll have HTC Home tab in Today settings.
Thanks all; Karolis, that worked for me.
Pity it did not solve the real issue - iGO8 not working with HTC home running.
I was hoping disabling the weather/music tabs would help - but no such luck.
I the solution for the annoying "press ok to continue" problem. Using a registry editor, navigate to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main and make sure BlockStaticActiveX is set to zero.

[ROM] WM6.5.3 28205 with Palm OEM

like in thread. I cooked WM6.5.3, build 28205 with Palm OEM. All works: sleep with red button, messaging etc. Without CHome etc (lockscreen too).
Known bug is not opening Start after tapping icon on the screen. You must open Start with hardbutton.

oh, really ? I fix this when I could.
Thanks for your efforts! The WM6.5 work for the Treo has slowed to a crawl. Nice to see there are a few of us that still like the Treo's form-factor.
Wow, I really like this ROM. I thought nav's was cool, this is even better! As with nav's ROM, I'll pitch in with some bug reporting.
-Palm's messaging app cannot be closed. It can't be exited, apparently, when I tap the close button on the bottom right it won't close the program. I used Wakutask to minimize it but that's the closest way to minimizing it on one tap (another way to minimize it it to open Start ->Show Today and it should go to the RAM.) Unfortunately, I am unable to use the Task Manager to close it as well. Only a Reboot will clear it away.
-Where is the "Keyguard" control panel applet? I want to turn off keyguard but cannot find the option.
Some other none-Palm related issues:
-When I install FileExplorer Ext, it freezes the phone randomly. Could be a probem with it, so I use Resco explorer for installing cabs :/
-HTC Task Manager doesn't work. Does anyone know which task managing progam is good for the new close button position?
-The aforementioned Waku Task works as designed, but as I mentioned earlier the close button no longer works at the top right (it would if you enable X-button skinning), but having active tasks still on the top bar is great
So, seeing how good this ROM is, minus the above issues, I'm wondering what should we call this ROM? Mietas edition?
Thanks again fo keeping the Treo alive!
more bugs
1.it did not let me to install new programs. I did an hard reset and then i succeed to install softwares.
2.i installed spb keyboard, and when i entered to menu in this software it freez and i needed to do a reset.
Oh this is issue is tottaly awesome. I didnt hope, that someone make new stable rom, with palm oem things. how much free ram is after installation? Want you fix the remaining bugs shortly? I didnt already install it, but i'm going to try it tomorrow.
Many thanks from treo user from czech.
I fix bugs as soon I get a Treo. Probably this week.
Thanks for reporting bugs so much
What about stability, RAM etc?
Finally had the chance to install it. Nice work!
1) I have to admit that I do miss the 'Zune' look of the earlier version's homescreen, but will gladly give it up for the stability and features of this ROM.
2) I had an issue trying to select a ringtone on the Phone Settings Screen. It looks like there is an extra dropdown menu covering up the one where you actually select the ringtone. Once you managed to select the proper dropdown, you could change the ringtone, it just took a little fiddling.
3) When I tried changing themes for the today screen, once switching off the AT&T screen, I couldn't get it back the way it was before the switch. Some of the menus, fonts, and graphics had changed (for example the lower menu bar on the home screen), and the only way I could find to restore it was a hard reset.
4) As others have said, clicking on the Windows logo on the home screen doesn't do anything. You have to use the Windows button on the keyboard.
5) I didn't have the issue reported by mangatron regarding the Messaging app. Mine seems to work fine.
6) The Phone button issue reported by libal is present for me too. It appears to be the menu box that popped up when pressing the phone button, only it goes blank, and as reported it does not go away by leaving that screen. Soft reset does clear it.
Any chance you could share your kitchen with us? This would allow us to make a few of these fixes and will allow us to port to other versions.
Also - When using any mail program it will not allow any reply to an email.
Hmm, Messaging app works fine now. Maybe I had to receive a few sms first, or I suspect my sim card wasn't playing nice with the ROM.
I also use AE Button Plus to map the OK button to actually close programs. That does wonders.
The old battery indicator that used to be in WM6 is half in the top bar. Well, I say half because I can see a part of the lightning icon (when you charge your phone), and a bit of the left shows up. Any way to clear that? Or a bug maybe...
I would like to note people using this ROM for the first time:
-It's always best to clear data after flashing ROM's. Hold Power button and press the Reset button underneath the MiniSD cover. That should clear the old installation setup you had previously, which should fix installation errors.
-The phone may seem sluggish at first setup, just wait for it to load what needs to load, and after you soft reset, everything should be smooth.
-For those that wonder about program compatibility, I tested a WM2003 era program (MADE Text Editor), and it simply overwrites the bottom bar with it's WM2003 style icon style bar. Works fine
As for stability, RAM, the phone operates a bit slower than WM6.1. SKTools benchmarks puts the graphics rendering nearly 100 points lower than WM6.1, and almost 200 points lower than nav's WM6.5 ROM. Maybe if we use his specialized ATI dll it might be faster? Because the CPU is also a bit slow, but only by 1 point, although RAM access time and Main Storage Read/Write is the same as WM6/6.1. I don't really want to tax the RAM, I tested Opera Mobile 10 Beta 2u and it operates the same way as on WM6/6.1. I don't want to test Beta 3 because that uses up twice the RAM than Beta 2u.
So far so good though, with a little bit of fixing this ROM can be a winner
Can this be used on Treo 700WX?
or is there WM6.5 ROM for Treo 700WX?

I can't readily compare to 6.1 because I haven't used it in a long time, but this ROM is definitely snappier than nav's 6.5 version. It loads faster, locks onto AT&T much faster, and web pages seem to load faster too. I'm just using it stock, I haven't added any additional software to it. I had nav's ROM on my Treo for several months, and would not go back from a performance perspective.
Having said that, I can confirm Z3rx's report of not being able to reply to emails. It just returns you to the Inbox when selecting reply either through the menu, or using the left action key. That's a big problem for me as I use e-mail quite a bit on my phone. Hope the OP doesn't disappear, as so many of the Treo 750 cookers seem to do after an initial release.
just wanted to say thanks! i also lost confidence in new wm6.5 roms for our old but good treo 750!
keep up the good work man!

Hmm, I can only imagine with nav's ATI driver this Mietas ROM would be a whole lot better, nav's was good basically for font rendering (pretty much every program launched) and Camera quality. The rest, was like you mentioned, it wasn't optimized in a lot of places, most notably for it's RAM management and I would suspect CHome/Titanium existing in his ROM further slowed it down.
Other than that, isn't signal clarity/reception dependant on the Radio Firmware version? Although I wouldn't be surprised because Nav's ROM does not pull both CAP_package and the Carrier database from EXT Rom like Mietas' ROM [probably] does (which would explain it being able to lock on faster, a similar experience I had with Tacoman's WM6.1 and the Chinese WM6.1, with Taco's pulling from EXT Rom while the CHS one didn't)
I would like to add that I currently am using the Database from what was most likely the final Official ENG ROM released by Palm, Vodafone Version 2.30 which according to my digging contains the most up to date Carrier Database (that's where all the world's wireless carrier information is kept). I could imagine if you had this you'd have even better results with your wireless carrier.

I'm on AT&T, and did not change the radio firmware when I flashed this ROM. On Nav's ROM I manually set up the AT&T config, but did not have to here. Could be the difference I suppose.

I agree that I hope the cook does not disappear, which is why I have asked for his cooked kitchen so I can make further improvements or port other version (23541)... however I have not heard anything back.
The email issue is a big problem as many times I can not even start a new email.
Please share your work so we can make a great rom!
