Any news on 6.1 officially from HTC or O2? - HTC Wings

Now that MS has officially released 6.1 and said that O2 is going to be a partner (along with many others) how long before we see an official release for the XDA Atmos or any other Wings device?

The official windows mobile team blog and the microsoft announcment say that we don't get an official upgrade vom htc. I am really annoyed about this, as the HTC S730 is never than the TYTN2 and has the same performance problems . But the TYTN2 gets an upgrade.

this is unbelievable

I don't think that is a very complete list, it makes no mention of the European operators which the press release does. I would hold off until they give us a full list. Also there is nothing stopping O2 or Orange doing their own roms even if HTC don't.

T-mobile and HTC not in good terms regarding support for the Wing.
After having spent days, not hours, with T-mobile tech dpt., trying to fix both my coworker's and my own Wing for several issues, I've be-friended several techs in T-mobile and HTC, and they have confirmed that on their agreement, T-mobile trying to save some bucks (millions) for support incident calls to HTC, refused technical support provided by HTC to T-mobile Wing devices.
Better luck calling HTC with your T-mobile Wing device issues and requesting updates for WM 6.1 !!!!

I bought HTC S730 not too long ago. I'm reasonably happy with it except that it hasn't got enough ram and is sometimes sluggish. When I bought it I knew an update to Windows Mobile was coming. And I was highly sure HTC will provide an update to this freshly new device based on that new WM thing. Now, though, I'm sarting to doubt that they will release any ROM at all. In that case I will not trust HTC anymore and I will buy a smartphone from other manufacturer (in ODM level). Maybe they're already developing their new smartphone (with that diagonally scrolling out thing they have patented recently) and are forgetting that people are actually still buying this phone!! They would better do something about this!

I m in the same boat here, waiting the WM 6.1 update for the S730, if HTC dont put out the update, I never buy another HTC phone. Support is everything, and the S730 is not a cheap smartphone! hello HTC we are waiting news!

No, I have many sources reporting many things, and some things I can talk about (mostly what's out there) and somethings I can't (mostly not what's out there).
I wrote the PPC-6600 "Upgrade" article to force Sprint to disclose on-the-record that an upgrade will be offered for existing owners. It was a clear, yet at the same time, carefully worded piece of consumer advocacy, and it served its purpose. When everything's disclosed I think it will be clear why. Regardless of what the 6700 does turn out to be, 6600 owners would have been otherwise left feeling forced to upgrade.
What I have said all along as to what the 6700 is, is that it is a device that would not be motivating for other 6600 owners to upgrade to for the most part with the exception of it is EV-DO enabled.

Telus is starting it's evdo network in the first quater of 2006. Hopefully we should get an update offered to us as well.
I don't think telus' version of the ppc6600 has evdo enabled out of the box. <- can someone check on this??
I havn't done any upgrades yet.. as there havn't been any offered to date.
The bluetooth stack on this unit is fairly stable and the radio and ext rom are both one of the newest versions available. I've only found rom updates for GSM units and others that are incompatible with our CDMA version of the ppc6600.
I'm not sure how many other countries are using this exact model of ppc6600. I know new zeland telecom, sprint & verison, telus and bell are using the same. That should indicate that if sprint releases an update, then so will the others. Sprints update renames their model of ppc6600 to ppc6700...
When that time comes, paying ANOTHER ~600 bucks would be outrageous. The phone just came out here and I paid the 350 w/ 3 yrs contract. I would pay for an update of course but it would have to be reasonable... 600+ is not. If sprint DOES release an update, it will make its way to xda. By that time, hopefully, the forum here should recognize our ppc6600 and make a separate section for us where we can test and update our models f.o.c.
I'm hopeing that if and when there is an update, wm2005 is included but I dont think it will be. It will happen. Eventually someone will sort it all out, and then we can live in wm2005 land happily ever after.
Well I bit the bullet and only signed a one year contract with Telus, that's as much as I can stomach with them. As far as EVDO goes I am not so sure. Telus is on strike so not much will happen and they are projecting this might go until 2006. What I would really like to see is to have them finalize the Number Portability business and then I could take my number and go GSM. I think that is the best option we have right now for getting WM5 on a device in Canada aside from I-mate and Rogeres.
did you update your ext rom? where did the .115 come from?
gimee gimee gimee!!!!!
is ther any improvement over the .00 release?

Actually all that was already installed on the device and I have dumped it here if you want to grab it. Should be in wiki.

Are there any European members who own an AT&T Tilt?

If so, could you let us know how the WIFI and phone perform?
Thanks
AT&T isn't big this side of the pond, AFAIK.
I do own an unbranded kaiser, and everything is fine, wifi and phone-wise.
Thank you.
How did you purchase it?
Is it possible to do so without being an AT&T customer?
I don't think AT&T are in Europe so you either buy the original HTC TyTN II without a contract or get the branded devices on T-Mobile etc.
Try Mobile Planet / Expansys:
http://www.mobileplanet.com/
Can't, I need a PPC without cameras
Due to corporate policy.
do you have to poke your eyes out, too ?
as i understand it, ATT sells a de-featured kaiser in US ?
Sorry I didn't realise there was a version with no camera!
You won't get an AT&T one in Europe I'm afraid
Something like that...

Yes, they do. But AFAIK the only feature missing is the cameras.
In addition, I understand that AT&T have pre-loaded all sort of demo apps etc to ROM, which lower the amount of free memory, but I assume this is solved by installing the regular Kaiser ROM or any other cooked ROM.
I don't have any experience in this, so I'm slowly going over the many excellent posts here.
When at&t released the 8525 we also had a 8500 which was a cameraless version. Precisely why these exist in this context, I can't say. The Tilt's internal designation is the 8925 and I now see that an 8900 is available for order from our internal equipment catalog. I can see if I can get my hands on one for you if you like?
That would be very helpful.
What is the cost?
Thanks!

AT&T customers! Stand up and DO YOUR PART!

Ok. No sense explaining AT&T Tilt issues over again. We know it's AT&T's (or T-Mobile or Sprint, Verizon) fault only maybe for a very small part (should've been more careful when choosing to resell a gimped PDA), but we also know that AT&T must be one of HTC's biggest resellers (if not biggest overall).
What does that mean to us? That means that we can make AT&T (T-Mobile, Sprint, Verizon) yell at HTC. Oh yes, my dear disbelievers, we can.
Here's a mock up of the letter you need to send to AT&T. Make sure you don't just copy and paste it over, change it with your own words, but make sure it includes important points.
Make sure you substitute provider and phone name.
There's a huge concern about the performance issues of the AT&T Tilt (aka HTC TYTN II or Kaiser) that is about to reach its boiling point due to the latest HTC press release statement.
It is widely known that Qualcomm's chipset acceleration is not working properly/not working at all on this device. The performance of a 400MHz processor on Tilt is actually slower than, say, HTC Wizard (aka Cingular 8125) or devices that are 2+ years older and cost 2-3 times cheaper.
Although we understand that AT&T is not a developer of the device and cannot fix this problem directly, we, as customers of AT&T are asking you to do whatever you can to assist us. As a giant reseller of HTC devices, we believe that we, as your loyal customers, can ask you for your help to persuade HTC to develop and release proper drivers.
There are many, many complaints that were filed to organizations like Better Business Bereau to make HTC fix this. There's an overwhelming amount of proof (including videos on youtube). There's lots of press coverage on this (including websites like TheRegister and CNET) and it keeps growing every single day.
Once again, we, as customers of AT&T, who bought AT&T Tilt device, are kindly asking you to research this issue and ask HTC to make Tilt the phone is was advertised to be and not something that we feel extremely disappointed with.
Signatures, media coverage, video proof and more can be found here:

Please forward this email to proper management divisions.
Thank you.

I have been preaching on the AT&T forum for a few weeks. It seems like they are starting to finally catch on.
Could I ask a moderator to rename the thread to say "HTC Kaiser owners" instead of "AT&T customers" since it became more broad.
Thank you.

Well it's not just Kaiser's since Sprint nor Verizon have that. It should be something like "HTC MSM7x00 owners"

Btw, it's spelled its. It helps to just spell it out as in "reach its bowling..." instead of "reach it is bowling...". As for wtf is bowling point, I dunno.
Lol yeah you're right. Sorry, was writing with emotions hehe.
I fixed it.

True.. but that's why it says to replace provider/phone name there.. it's just an example
Ha! Well I WAS going to write a letter to AT&T, but whenever I submit all my information, the page gets stuck when I hit "Next." Guess AT&T doesn't tolerate dissention any more than HTC does.
That's probably cause of the firefox. Their email support form works only in IE as far as I know.

Just got a Stellar

Hi,
i have just bought an O2 Stellar (unlocked) from ebay. Until now i have always got my phones direct form the network so a used phone is a first for me. My current device is a Tytn (TM Vario II)
What do i need to do when it arrives in order to get it working with my Tmobile SIM?
I intend on trying some new roms on it after xmas, are there any that favour gps performance? i am hoping to do a bit of geocaching.

Welcome to xda-dev. The first thing you should do as a new person here is to read the wiki for Kaisers (which includes the XDA Stellar, O2s variant), also the sticky posts here. There's lots of info there that'll be helpful. I've never owned a Stellar, just the generic HTC version but I would imagine unless it's already been unlocked by the previous owner, it'll be sim locked to O2 so you may need to unlock it. The simple way to see if this is the case is to try your T-Mobile sim in it. I think it'll depend where you reside as to whether other changes will be required because not all T-Mobile network characteristics are the same and some locations have specialist/uncommon settings.
As far as ROMs with good GPS performance go, the current UK World Wide English Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM has very poor GPS performance here in the UK compared to the original Windows Mobile 6.0 ROM and that seems to be fairly common with many of the WM 6.1 ROMs although different radios teld to make a difference according to reports here. Again it'll depend where you reside.
hi,
the device had better be unlocked.. it is advertised as so! It is claimed it is only 6 months old and came unlocked from the network. I guess being only six months old it will have a 6.1 rom already on it so i'll see how i get on wth that first then think about putting the older rom on it.
i am in UK, East Lothian to be a little more precice.
hi,

AT&T Not offering TiLt Anymore?

I was just looking around the AT&T site and noticed in the list of devices they do not show the Tilt anymore. Are They discontinuing the Tilt? Will I be offered a different Divice if I have to replace in my tilt?
Yes, AT&T has discontinued selling the Tilt so they can focus on the Fuze.
As far as a replacement, you might still get a refurbed Tilt if whoever issuing the replacements have them in stock. Seeing as how they just recently stopped selling the Tilt, I'm sure a fair amount of refurbs are still available for replacement.
But from my experience, in the case that your current phone is no longer in stock then they give you the next best thing.
AWESOME!!!!
I been wanting to get the Fuze but I just recently joined AT&T and I am not eligible for the discount and dont want to spend $500 on a phone. When I was t-mobile the same thing happened and i got a free upgrade from the mda to the wing! I wasnt sure how long it took for them to run out of the MDA though. I am probably looking at more that 2months though right?
