Right here we go folks: TomTom 6. Kasier (MDA III) 6.1 (no thrills ROM).
I installed TomTom onto my first Kaiser (standard ROM) no problems and it worked fine until the unit died. I have a replacment device and have requested a new code from TomTom. They have said that the MDA III is not compatible and pointed me to the list of devices which are compatible. What's on there, yes the MDA III, TyTnII etc. I pointed this out to them and they said it was wrong, the device does not work with TomTom and they wont give me a new code until I provide proof of another device (other than the Kasier)!!
Has anyone else had issues or is it TomTom support being lame as usual?
Thanks.
What a load of rubbish. If TOMTOM do not provide support for the HTC Kaiser/TyTN II/Vario III, then why do most Shops (eXpansys, totalPDA, etc.) sell it with a trial version? I'd tell them to get stuffed and send you the code, they're just being idiots...
Wow! They are being incredibly obtuse. It's their compatibility list, it's hardly your fault that it's 'wrong' and in any case I don't think it is. I think you need to speak to a different support person, somebody that knows their arse from their elbow.
Yep, I think I'll give them a call and get it sorted. Watch this space...
Hi,
In France, i encountered worries with tomtom traffic (nearly lost a week
of "subscription fee") because of Tomtom servers failure(guessed, they never admit clearly any reponsability), and followed a kind of farcical exchanges with their support, but they didnt offer me a real kind /commercial gesture(2-3 days of traffic for a week lost !) and they shown themselves arrogant, obtuse, taking me for an idiot.
Not at all paying careful attention to their...paying customers.
Good luck so !
Regards
This just in from TomTom support:
"I have confirmed again with our PDA Specialist and they have stated that there is a huge difference between the MDA III and the MDA Vario III. Since you have the MDA Vario III we are unable to provide you with another activation code."
Odd how they list the TyTn II as a compatible device.
That's ridiculous. I can understand your frustration! Here's the eXpansys Kaiser page, do a Ctrl+F for TOMTOM and it states under the Technical Details:
• GPS
- Internal GPS antenna
- Standalone GPS abd A-GPS mode
- TomTom Navigator 6 Edition (TomTom 6 Taster Edition)
Have you tried showing TOMTOM Support anything like this (which clearly proves that the Kaiser is supported/compatible)?
Yes I emailed them a link to the £500+ package that expansys do with TT6. Lets see what they say this time!
This is a joke, surely:
"The compatibility of your device has been confirmed from our Technical Support Team who are Specialist in PDA products."
Time to phone them and go beserk I reckon!
It's the kind of situation where you want to laugh and cry at the same time. There's not really much left to do apart from argue the toss with them untill they oblige. Good luck and let us know how it go's.
Another update to the saga. I spoke to TomTom supoprt over the phone who were very helpful and said they wold request a change of device code and get back to me. Just got this back from them:
"Unfortunately it has been confirmed again that the Vario III is not on our compatibility list, therefore you will not be able to run Tom Tom software.
The reason your device code keeps changing is due to the fact that device is incompatible.
We cannot change the device code on your account to reflect an incompatible device."
Anyone want to buy TomTom6??!
Finally I'm getting somewhere! TomTom have said they will reactivate my software, but only if I do not request any further support for the device, and do not ask for another code if its doesnt work.
TomTom Navigator
Hi,
The reason they don't 'support' it or refuse to give out the code, is because every time you change the ROM, one that has a new build, then the TomTom server will think you're trying to use their software on a different device and so on, this is especially the case with the TomTom Plus services. I had this problem with my VPA (HTC TyTN) and they would not re-create the code for my TomTom Plus (Traffic Updates). Luckily I knew the old build, so I searched for cooked ROM's that were using that build.
Regards,
Thats a bummer. Why do they tie the code to software, surely they could base it on the IMEI number as that is fixed and does not change regardless of which software you are running.
RE tomtom device code
HI I had same problem with my activation code when I changed rom have found a crack which gives u the code when u try to start maps it gives you device code and u run this software it gives you the activation code. Does it make sense.
RAJ ( I will post this here if needed pls ask instructions are included takes 2 mins)
I am not sure what everybody is talking about
I have ATT tilt with Dutis ROM loaded
and TomTom 6 is working splendidly except may be for the fact that it takes a minute or so to get the satelite fix
but other then that perfect GPS
I would like to find a better software more user firendly
but since I have the maps for US canada and most of europe I gues tom tom is the GPS of choice for me now
Tomtom traffic services
I think the Tomtom support is the worst i've ever seen. For my Kaiser, I know werre the problem is, but don't know how to solve it. When you launch to the traffic information update, the software sends a PHP request to the server including your login, password and this is the problem a serial number that should be your IMEI, but the application sends a wrong number (the first digit is wrong). If I send the same request with my good IMEI through IE I have a message like "enjoy with your promotion". If you know in what file or registry key Tomtom stores this number I think it will not be so hatd to change it to the correct one and find an access to the traffic server.

TT6 on Tilt with official WM 6.1?
I did as much searching as I can handle but could not find a resolution. Tried to install 6.032, get a message saying "Unable to install application. Please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again."
I have TomTom 6 v 6.010 installed w/o an issue. I currently have the standard AT&T 6.1 ROM. The only issue is that it takes 3 to 4 minutes to acquire a signal. However this seems to be a product of WM 6.1.

I wonder if someone can help me.
I've upgraded my BA to the above ROM and am very happy however I have one odd thing.
I've installed TomTom 5.0 without any problems but when I visit the tomtom website to purchase the Speed Cameras plug-in, after confirming my device code it tells me that I am about to purchase the Speed camera product for the Netherlands.
Is this just an issue with them or does the device code tell it from the ROM that its a Netherlands device?
I though I'd ask before I purchase and the TomTom support site is down currently.
TIA
Jason
Hi everyone
I am new here and this is my first post, so please go easy on me.
I wanted to start by congratulating all the contributors on this forum on a great job done.
I’ve just ordered an SPV M700 on Orange and have a couple of questions
1- I need to unlock the phone to be able to use an O2 Sim card in it.
2- I want to be able to use The GPS in the phone.
To use the O2 SIM do I just need to do a SIM unlock, or do I have to do a CID unlock to? Err what is CID in the first place
My understanding is that the Orange ROM has the GPS enabled, am I correct? If so, all I have to do is install software like Tomtom Navigator and all should work, right?
As you can see, I am not that technical and do not want to mess the phone up by venturing into un-chartered territories.
Thank you for any help
1, yes you just need a SIM unlock. You will find the necessary tools on this forum to do this.
2, it seems that the current batch of Orange phones are shipping with the gps enabled rom, so yes just install tomtom.
I think CID stands for country ID (or something like that), you only need to unlock this if you intend to install firmware from another country e.g. the gps enabled Depod firmware. Providing your orange supplied phone has their most recent firmware you won't have to worry about this.
I've just found out what orange are doing. ONLY their Business phones have it enabled.
So if you order the phone on a personal account you don't get the GPS enabled.
However if you order it on a business account you can have it.
The third option is to learn French and flash the publicly available french rom to it.
(That's assuming you want it to be supported by orange themselves)
Else use one of the cooked roms and you're sorted.
EDIT: I've just got off the phone to Orange. The third option above would still be covered by insurance. Though if anything goes wrong it would have to be listed as a technical fault and go back to their free post address.
no, you are wrong, i am personal account, the rom is gps enabled
You flashed it to enable it. The GPS ROM is there but with one of the earlier firmware versions which doesn't enable it. (I got my information directly from Orange. If you were lucky enough to get a business phone sent out to you then I'm extremely jealous (and ask you again to upload your firmware ) but after about 40 mins of bouncing me around centers and giving me lame excuses or saying they were the wrong department I finally got a straight answer out of 2 seperate departments saying this was indeed the case)
If you look on the Orange site:
Business:
http://www.business.orange.co.uk/se...s&c=OUKDevice&cid=1044134008063&extarg1=Phone
It can deliver you directly to your meetings, thanks to it's built-in GPS with Sat Nav from Orange.
Personal:
http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/handset/orange_spv_m700/features
No mention of any GPS is listed.
I know the GPS is there and functions as I've used a cooked ROM to enable it.
Plus as has been pointed out you can freely get the Orange France version of the firmware which has GPS enabled.
no no no, i didn't flash it before enable it, i can use the gps with tomtom 6 when i first got the phone, i need to flash it because i need to make it sim unlock..( i got it on 28/02/07, from the orange shop)
and even the manual with my spv m700, it also mention about the gps.

This is good News
I will get mine tomorrow - hopefully
Alas, I need to use an O2 Sim card though, so I must go down the SIM unlock route. I am in a dilemma between
1- Using the Prof's unlocking solution here
or
2- Paying up the $38 for peace of mind here here
Forget about solution 2

SPV M700
Just to let you all know:
I just spoke to Orange about upgrading my M600 to M700. Vry nice lady ( after three atempts) has confirmed that M700 has GPS receiver built in. It would not show anywhere on Comms but it is selectable once you install SatNav software and it is on COM9.
So I think that anewers the original question.
Happ Navigating
Got my SPV M700 from Orange yesterday.
I went into the favorit > Sat Nav & downloaded Orange's Sat Nav program (It woked a treat - No ROM flashing or anything ) It actually guided me back home.
So yes, Orange UK ROM is 100% GPS enabled.
the-oneil not all are coming with GPS enabled. I know as I've seen 2 so far which came without the GPS working. Must depend on the batch they send out.
i think that depends on which rom version, that one with the following version must have GPS..
Operator version : 19.123.1.615
ROM version: 1.23.61.5
Rom date : 01/25/07
Radio version : 1.30.00.01
Protocol version: 32.63.7020.08H
I didn`t have to enable GPS on my M700. I installed a sat nav system ( Navigon MN6) and it connected by itself. I have a black M700 but on a personal account. The black ones were originally only reserved for new business accounts. Don`t know if that is significant.
I have now just installed Route 66 Navigate 7 in place of Navigon but it can`t seem to connect to the GPS receiver. Anyone help with that? I can only find one way to access the GPS seetings, in Systems/connections/GPRS Settings, and the only option is to change from PAP Authentication to CHAP Authentication. I don`t know what the difference between them is ( I`m not a techie!!) but it makes no difference anyway.
Any advice would be appreciated
Don't confuse GPS (Global Positioning by Satellite) with GPRS (General Packet Radio Service). If you mess with the GPRS settings, you may stop your phone from being able to use mobile data.
The M700 doesn't come with the GPS control panel visible, and generally speaking you don't need it to. Windows Mobile 5 comes with a software patch which distributes a GPS signal to any application requiring it, but some GPS applications can't work with this. I presume Route 66 may be one of them (as is TomTom).
Go to your Route 66 settings, and in the GPS setting options, set COM port to COM9 and Baud rate to 57600, which are the default hardware settings for the M700.
Now go to somewhere with a clear view of the sky for about 10 minutes, to allow the program to download all the necessary satellite information.
the-oneil,
I did the same as you with my brothers Trinity but I have a small problem with the internet settings.
I downloaded a cab file from a forum request on this site but it did not work for me and so I then copied the settings from a site called 'filesaveas' and itwork for me except in one way.
When I try to access my brothers Hotmail account via Pocket MSN I could not do it, however when I accessed Hotmail via Internet Explorer it was ok.
So I have some kind of error in the settings somewhere that still needs to be resolved. I contacted O2 for the settings but they would not give them to me because it is not an O2 handset. The screen asks me repeatedly for 'Incoming Email Password', which is exactly the same one as when I use Internet Explorer to acces Hotmail.
So let me know if you get the above working on yours and perhaps I could copy your settings.
Cheers!
And good luck!
Thanks NeilM,
Trouble is, I`ve tried and tried to find somewhere in the Route 66 menu where I can change GPS settings, but no luck. I`ve been checking through the files using File Explorer but can`t find anything anywhere that allows me to do that. Can you suggest somewhere I might find it or would it be pretty obvious, like going into the main menu in Route 66 when it`s running, and looking for a GPS settings tab. There isn`t one. It has a tab called GPS information but that just gives GPS status info, no way of changing any settings. Guess I`m stuffed!!
According to the Route66 help, it only supports Bluetooth GPS, not inbuilt receivers.
In fact their compatibility list is so old, I wonder it works on any current device

Thats great, thanks for letting me know, I can stop messing around with it now and go for something else or get a bluetooth receiver. The built in receiver isn`t that great anyway. I read somewhere that it was an 8 channel receiver. I have tried Navigon MN6 already with my M700 and I noticed that it`s positioning leaves a lot to be desired. I wondered if it might be something to do with the receiver as I didn`t expect it to be a SirfstarIII. So I might at some point just get myself a decent quality bluetooth SirfstarIII. Any recomendations?
Cheers for now
For the lucky people who got their Kaisers already, would you please report your experience regarding the built-in GPS please specially the initial cold fix as it was very slow with the Trinity P3600
TomTom 6.030 does not work, instead you have to install the TT version 6.0.32 from the accompanying CD. The first fix (after QuickGPS ran) was almost instaneaous and a lot faster than on the Athena.
Agreed; and, at least in Google Maps, the position is more accurate than the Ameo.
For batterie Life
Hello,
Can you post hte comment of batterie life when you use the GPS.
For example: the phone
the telephone is load completely (100% full batterie) and when you use 1 hour of gps
how much battery it remains?
Thanks.

Am running 6.030 now!
Don't ask me how or why but it's working fine.
Joe
I now verified that on TT6.030 you have to use "Other NMEA GPS/4800Bd/Com 4: and on TT6.032 you can stay with "Internal GPS"
In any case, TT6.032 with "Internal GPS" the fix is aqcuired a lot faster than on TT6.030
TT6.032 is supplied with the TyTNN II on the accompanying CDRom
(TT6.032 incidentally does not allow itself to be installed on any other device, the installer prevents that, but after installation on the TyTN II, the directory can be copied to for instance the x7500 to replace the old installation there, and it will work fine. My first impression is that also on the x7500 with TT6.032 the fix is faster, but I still need to run the "dinner table test" )
its working fine now after i installed the version on the cd. thanks. my MapKing chinese version also working, GREAT!
When you use tt6.32 from the CD, can you use any tt6 map? or is it locked to 1 map only?
Can you have multiple maps with the tt6.32 from the CD?
Can you confirm that the version supplied with TyTn II i.e., TomTom 6.0.32, is a FULL version ? Licences? or is it a taster and you have to pay to register it as a full version? If it is full, does it come with Great Britain Maps (full) or you have to download them? In case of download, is it free?
Thanks
The CD version of TT 6.032 that comes with the Kaiser is as full as an update one would dowload from TomTom. There is no code. There are no maps either. One can download one area map (f.i. London) for free, but no country or continent maps are added. Those will have to be purchased separately.
If you install it on top of an already installed and registered TT6.0x0, it will not ask for a new code. Any old registration will remain valid.
On another note, sitting side by side in my car, I noticed that the x7500's GPS reception was a lot more consistent then the TyTNN II's. The TyTN II may acquire its fix a lot faster, but on the whole, the x7500's reception is better (even though my "dinner table test" would lead to believe otherwise) and more consistent.
While my x7500 had a permanent reception of 9-10 satellites (albeit with shorter bars) the TyTN II was jumping up and down between 3 and 7 satellites.
I currently use my Hermes in an 'in car' holder, with a bluetooth GPS reciever face up in the window. One thing that I would like to know, is that if I was to get a Kaiser and put it into my car holder, surely the orientation of the GPS reciever inside the Kaiser would be 'end on' to the sky, and the satelites.
This must affect performance?
I got mine this morning. Took me quite a while to get GPS working -- had to do a hard reset. It's now working with Route 66, which I used to use on my Wizard.
GPS data seems a bit bursty -- when I was viewing it with GPSViewer, I'd get a bunch of NMEA strings, then nothing for several seconds, then another burst.
Hum..seems to be same issue than Paul from Modaco :
"The GPS bug seems to occur with some applications whereby the GPS 'data stream' will pause for a few seconds at a time, which makes some apps think the GPS has gone away (e.g. Google Maps) and other apps just update in sudden jumps rather than smoothly." ?
Seems that HTC did not fix it in the final ROM.
Do you know if HTC is aware of this issue and plan to fix it ?
Thanks
don't know if i've encountered the bug but here's my situation: i cannot get the GPS Hardware Port (or COM) settings to "stick" after changing them. for example i can change GPS Program Port and it will stick but changing the Hardware Port and clicking OK has no impact. if i reopen the GPS settings, the Hardware Port shows "(NONE)". and this is after 4 hard resets. funny thing is that is worked when i initially set up my device, then all of a sudden, TT6 was reporting "No GPS Device"... it may be time to pack it up and return it for a replacement... any suggestions would be appreciated.
Update: Followed Paul's (on Modaco) suggestion to leave the default settings and now GPS is working.
Which Navigation programs work in landscape mode???
for those of you with a Tytn II, are you able to modify the GPS Hardware COM port from one setting to another? the fact that mine says "(NONE)" is leading me to believe i have a hardware defective unit. thanks.
Kaiser and mapking 2007
ive tried mapking 07 on kaiser and it doesnt work. It juz cannot pinpoint the location that I am at. I wonder if its the software problem??
I installed TOM-TOM from the HTC CD and it has worked with out problems, even installed US MAPS from another Tom-Tom CD I have from the original version. Only problem so far, once I was using it and received an SMS message and it locked up. Had to restart. Receiving email is fine but the SMS message freaked it out.
has anyone had any luck get any of the tomtom plus features to access the internet?
mine just errors out....
can someone try theirs?
nm... finally got it...
signed up on mytomtom.com yesterday...
turned off my proxy settings in medianet...
put my email and password in tomtom when it asks for it...
turned off hsdpa...
logged on to a website via explorer (to get a data connection active)...
then went back to tomtom buddies and tried to login, it errored twice but i pressed continue three more times and it finally logged in...
traffic and all of the other tomtom plus services work great...
now, just need my pals with kaisers to get their tomtom buddies up and running and we'll see if we can track each other...
the kaise/tytn II/tilt/8925 is great piece of kit... and i really like having the gps...

I get most plus services to work except traffic. I have everything in your post without luck. A qustion to tomtom support only resulted in "we do not support you device" answer. Any ideas?
When I fianlly installed the maps from my CD and activated them it started working. It did not work with the free downloaded map.

Tomtom support
I want to highlight something. I downloaded the free map and tried to activate my tomtom traffic on this free manp. This caused the error mentioned in my previus entry. I then tried to open a support case with Tomtom, but they refused to handle it. They state that the Kaiser is an unsupported device. Luckily traffic worked when I installed my maps from the DVD. I don't understand how Tomtom can make a deal with HTC, provide the progam and maps and then refuse to support it.

Quite agree - I would demand to be referred to their complaints procedure and make sure they know you have a tomtom branded TyTn II installation disk. Also do not assume they know the phone by the name Kaiser. Also remember to mention that the programme is specifically adpted by them to run on that phone and no other.

Maybe the problem could be that I used the EU version of the Kaiser talking to the Swedish Tomtom support, and the Swedish version of the Kaiser is not yet available.

Interesting, when the FAQ's on their own site says this:
Question
Why is NAVIGATOR 6 support for Windows Mobile® 6 limited to some HTC devices?
Answer
The reason why NAVIGATOR 6 is not supported on all Windows Mobile 6 devices is due to our global partnership with HTC, as a supplier of pre-installed Navigation Software for their GPS-enabled devices.
All works fine on my device....
TomTom Traffic not working
I have installed TomTom into my unlocked HTC Kaiser and it works fine. While, intitially Traffic was working and downloading perfectly well, since October 1, I get connected to the traffic server, but no data gets transferred into my device. (The traffic message is always no traffic incident to report, although there are numerous delays in the New York metropolitan region). I have contacted TomTom customer support about this. Originally they told me the traffic servers were down. Today they are telling me that this is a problem specific to HTC devices not getting the data correctly. Does anybody else have the same problem? Is somebody using the traffic service since October 1 and receiving valid traffic information on their HTC Kaiser devices? I have a version of TomTom that is not made specifically for the kaiser. I wonder if that would work better?

It's not just you. Last night, I used my Tom Tom v6.032 (that came with the Kaiser) and had it pull the traffic info along the route I was taking. Got all green. 5 minutes later, i'm in bumper to bumper traffic and inching along (there was construction that turned a 3 lane busy street in Washington, DC into a 1 lane street. While in the bumper to bumper, I had the software update it's traffic info and it still came up all green. I just figured it would only report on accidents and not delays, but evidently i'm not the only one having the problem.
I wasn't getting any traffic updates in the UK, but a colleague with a TT910 was. So I copied tmcodes.dat, traffic.dat from the map & deleted the other traffic file. Ran through enabling traffic again, and it's working fine again.
same problem
I have same problem with Orange provided device in the UK - logged call with TomTom who now say Kaiser is supported. Everything works except for Plus services - get generic TomTom device error when trying to connect to do anything in the plus menu. Navigator 6.
any advice/ideas - tried disabling HSDPA but no difference.
I have had problems with TomTom on my Kaiser, but it is always rectified by connecting it to a wifi hotspot first, with the cellular radio off. Then going to TomTom and running an update, where it will always download a small update of some sort the first time I run it, after that I'm troublefree on wifi or 3G (or Edge, or HDSPA)

Thanks in advance.

I just dont want to pay monthly for Telenav. I appologize if this was a thread already but i did not see one regarding it.
Thanks!
tomtom 6.030 is working for me. Haven't tried 6.032. The software is awesome. Only complaint is loading up GPS is slow, but that shouldn't be tomtom's fault.
Take a look at: http://www.expansys.nl/ft.aspx?k=100176
Anybody with Kaiser from T-Mobile Netherlands, does it come with TomTom?
I can't find it on the supplied CD(it came with one cd).
Am I missing something or I should start bothering T-Mobile for what's mine?
I have a post on XDA with tomtom working on the tilt. I included a link to the cab.
I'm currently using Igo which is a nice piece of software. I've only just started using it, having moved over from tomtom. It looks better, but I've not done any rigorous testing to see how complete it is. Time will tell.
T-Mobile doesn't include TomTom with the Kaiser on their cd.
Only the unbranded Kaiser has this software.
I really like Windows Live Search (wls.live.com). So much so that I removed Google Maps and TomTom from my device.
i use iGuidance 4 which works very good in my area (chicago) I also like the voice prompts...i don't think tomtom has the text to voice prompts in it...i think you have to add it in...

I was thinking of giving this a try. Tom Tom is OK, but I liked my Garmin XT better but it ONLY works with the supplied external GPS receiver. They have a version coming out that allows you to use an on board GPS, but they have chosen to lock down the next version to a supplied memory card. And on top of it, they are essentially forcing anyone who bought the Mobile XT product to pay full price again for this draconian action. Not very customer friendly. Since when has limiting choice been a positive selling point, especially with the Windows Mobile Community which is used to an open platform. They don't get it. I'll live with second best if it comes down to it.

When i try to install TomTom with the listed cab file from the other post. I get the error " Unable to install application please update your device ROM to the required version before trying again" Its a brand new tilt i got in the mail yesterday running ATT software. Any way i can get a work around for this? I am pretty new to the HTC family so im gona be honest i dont know how to manipulate the phone very well, but i really want to get TomTom on my phone.
Thanks in advance

i'm also using iGO 2006 + in the US... much better graphics, features and POIs compared to TomTom... on par with TomTom from a navigational perspective.

Hello Uppity,
Sorry to hear you are having so many issues. I hard reset my device after the initial "start-up" that took place at the AT&T store. I understand that the Tilt does not have the external ROM that the previous HTC devices had so if you hard reset the device some of the restrictions/changes AT&T built into or removed from the device are either not loaded or now become available. An example of this is the "Internet Sharing application was not available on my Tilt with the initiial AT&T ROM loaded from the store but after my hard reset it was available and more importantly enabled me to tether my laptop to the Tilt and use it as a modem.
I suspect AT&T may have also blocked the loading of other GPS software in an effort to use their $10 a month telenav.
I have tomtom 6 loaded on my device and it works without any issues. You may want to try to hard reset your device and then try to load tomtom6
Can't say for sure if this will work, but I have not had any issues with loading/running tomtom 6.
I use iGuidance 3 (haven't spent the money to upgrade to 4 yet) and I'm very happy with it.

Cortezzi, where did you find maps for the US for Igo? I went to their website and all I can see is European maps.

I got my tilt on launch day (2.5 weeks ago?) and that cab has been proven to work on many tilts. make sure you have the right cab that i posted and if not maybe try installing the tilt ROM that people have posted. when doing a rom, make sure you read because you can brick your phone
PM and i will tell you

I would like to obtain them LEGALLY. If you know how to direct me to them so that I can purchase them, or otherwise download them compliant with Igo's Terms of Use, you can tell me here.
Thanks.
