Title explains everything. It keeps going through sync process automatically. Very annoying. Caused me to lose all my contacts on my phone and Outlook. Had to start all over again. Fix?
disable syncing contacts and outlook
.... So everytime I want to sync. I have to go through checking the boxes again.

Or you can repeat your previous mentioned frustration. Whichever you prefer is fine with me.
ok.. well I don't think that'll help me.
This is what happened:
It kept syncing, I deleted partnership on activesync, deleted associations in the phone by deleting windows PC. Connected it again, went through the setup wizard and only clicked on contacts. Finished syncing.
Delete every contacts off my Outlook 2007 and on my phone. I had like half of them saved on my SIM. At that my SIM card is maxxed out with numbers.

Do you mean that ActiveSync is consistently sync'ing?
ActiveSync will always sync about every five minutes. It's hard coded to do this... annoyingly enough.
I use one computer to sync but sometimes i want to use my work computer to connect so i can transfer files to it. i could never stop it from trying to sync my contacts even if i had all options unchecked first. It doesn't even say it's syncing but it would still mess up my phone and delete all my contacts, etc. i just go back to the original computer and resync and everything is normal again.
Try ActiveSync Toggle
ActiveSync Toggle, installed onto your desktop PC, should allow you to manually disconnect ActiveSync connection between your Tilt and desktop PC. You can still leave your Tilt cradled so it can continue to charge the battery. When you want to again allow your Tilt and PC to sync you just tell ActiveSync Toggle to allow the sync.
I created a quick launch icon in the lower left toolbar area of my desktop PC (XP). The quick launch icon I created for the ActiveSync Toggle makes it really easy to just click on it to open/launch the ActiveSync Toggle application.
Here is the link to ActiveSync Toggle: http://www.micrologics.co.uk/library/ast/
Hope this helps.
Enable guestonly mode. You'll still connect to activesync, but you'll never be prompted to create a partnership. Your Tilt will continue to charge, you can still access your files, etc...
Here's the link for guestonly: http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/applications/undocumentedactivesync.htm

OK.... so ive had my phone attached to my Vista machine all day... nothing out of the ordinary there.... i unplug it to take some pics... then when i go to email the photo, it says there aren't any contacts... so i figured it was just being weird.... i reboot... AND EVERYTHING REALLY IS GONE!!! lol
what the F**K!!!
Has anyone experienced this!? can the PIM file become corrupt or anything? Is there anyway i can get it all back? :'(
(txts/emails haven't been lost)
Thanks
If it's been plugged in, presumably it's been syncing with your desktop Outlook or Exchange server? Contacts/Tasks/Calendar suggests an activesync issue rather than some kind of data loss on the device, especially if other things are still intact. It may be you need to resync and/or check for deleted items on the desktop.

That's the thing though, i setup the sync partnership to not sync anything (i just use the connection to use a remote desktop tool).
Plus, none of my personal data from my phone has synced with my PC ...
ARGH
ARGH is the right answer! I store all of that data on an exchange server and just re-sync when I flash a new ROM, clear storage, or just mess everything up from tinkering.
Happened to me once when I tried to charge my phone with a USB cable connected to a laptop that didn't have Outlook. I ended up with no contacts, no calendar entries and no tasks.
Soo annoying - i havent even changed anything on my phone/PC.. it's just randomly decided to erase it all... no mention of sync conflicts... nothing.
I dont know what to direct my anger and hatred at.. Vista or Windows Mobile.....
I'm thinking.... vista
happened to me before lost 150 contacts, only had 50 on SIM. Sucks I was freaking out when I didn't have anything in my contacts. Same thing I unchecked all boxes and just use it to connect to SOTI pocket controller.
When i got home and tried to sync with my home PC, it started the 'new partnership' wizard... so somehow it seems the whole damn sync relationship had been deleted.... niiiiiiiiiice!
Ohh well, luckily i had most of my stuff backed up... but it's still sh***y not knowing why this happened...
I had a look in the ActiveSync log - can't really make any sense of it though... there's nothing obviously wrong in there :S
Oh well!
I have the same experience, in fact suddenly all my SMS and outlook folder just disappear from the phone. The phone just decide to clear everything for me for no reason.
The partnership with ActiveSync or Mobile Center just disappear for no reason and I need to re-establish them every now and then. Not sure it is a HW issue or SW issue.
I have recently re-installed windows on my laptop and installed a few new roms on my Kaiser, and now when I try to sync up to my computer, it says "Synchronizing" on the pc activesync window, but just sits there spinning its little green icon, while the phone says that it is connected to a pc, but no data transfer/sync-ing is in progress. I have lost all my contacts as it seems to be removing them from my phone or corrupting them in transit to the pc, so I've had to start from scratch. Is this a known issue?
Cheers in advance,
Chris
I'm having something like that. I can Sync all the itens except Contacts. I can't change settings for Contacts too. What is happening?
Try to delete your AS partnership on the PC, then remove your USB connexion and if it is still there, also remove the AS partnership on your device. Soft reset and connect. A new partnership will be created, hopefully solving the problem.
I have a Tilt. It syncs fine to my old laptop which just dies on Sunday.
I have a NEW laptop which has a slightly different name.
The Tilt is going to sync flawlessly to the new computer - it started and I stopped it because it was going to duplicate my 1350 contacts etc.
I would like the system to realize that the contacts are identical on each system and that no sync is needed.
I told it not to sync at this time - it then immediately started syncing and found 0/1350 contacts and was about to start duplication when I stopped it.
Has anyone done this before? I am suspicious that I am going to hae to MANUALLY delete one by one the contact in my phone so that when it syncs it will not duplicate - if this is really what I need to do - does anyone have a quick way to purge the contacts in a phone?
Thanks
Bill
If your old laptop is dead I can assume you won't ever use it again to sync, so:
On the phone, open ActiveSync, Menu->options, delete any partnerships there.
Connect to the PC, recreate partnership, and on first sync it should give you a popup asking what to do (sync, phone replaces PC, PC replaces phone). Choose PC replaces phone. All the info on the phone will be deleted and replaced by the PC's data.
This is what I've been doing numerous times when formatting my PC. I would sync before formatting, then save Outlook's PST file, format, restore my stuff including the .pst, then sync again using the above method. I understand you restored the PST on the new computer as well.
Of course what's on the phone but not on the PC (what has been done on the phone since your last sync with the dead laptop) will be lost.

My friend, Thank you.
This forum is a wonderful place. To be able to come here and ask a question before I toddle off to sleep and have it answered perfectly before I get to work again is magical.
Please have a great day!

Hi,..i'm using
HTC touch 3g window mobil 6.1
rom version:1.40.707.2
rom date: 10/24/08
for probably 3 months.. sync very well with my pc xp sp2, Active Sync 4.5, office outlook 2000...
normally it would show the choice of active sync or disk drive or internet sharing.. it will still sync if i didn't select for a few seconds...
but last 2 days it give me screen as 1st attachment below
and cannot sync at all...
i had tried:
1) i go to start/setting/connection/USB to PC to select and deselect the check on the "Ask me 1st.." and "Enable faster data.." like below 2nd attachment..
2) soft reset
3) remove active sync and reinstall..(and reboot pc)
what else i can do?.. my last step would be hard reset but with so much data to back up and apps to install, so would like to ask advice b4 i do that..
i still can use it as USB Drive though, to transfer my Storage Card by select Disk Drive....
i had this issue, try syncing with the "enable faster syncing" disabled after you attempt to sync, even if it doesnt sync turn it back on and then try. do the same process after closing OUTLOOK from taskmanager. sync should work after this.

karthiksk,
Thanks for speedy reply... at 1st i thought i already done that, but with ur advice i tried again... finally it sync again (but the Internet Sharing still pop up 1st).. but can't sync if i turn on "Enable faster data.." again..
Just curious what had happen, the "ask 1st.." choices of connection never pop up anymore ... Maybe future hard reset would get it back...
Anyway this solve my need to sync for current usage ... many thanks again... u r a life saver....
Am unsure of what the problem is, but what goes without saying is that its a bug in the ROM. glad to see i was of some help.

Been thinking to upgrade rom.. would study more on this... thks again..
First of all, I've tried searching numerous places but can't seem to duplicate my issue. My issue is, of course, is that I am getting sync errors from HardSPL.exe/Automatic Flash when trying to HardSPL the phone.
I am using ActiveSync and the phone is Connected and Sync'd - both the phone and ActiveSync reporting the phone is sync'd. I can explore the phone and the folders, etc.. located on the phone. However, when I try to run HardSPL.exe on my PC -> Automatic Flash Mode I am getting Fatal Error - The phone is not sync'd with the PC. I have unchecked Fast Data Connection; I'm not in Flight mode; Internet is active on both PC and Phone (tried on and off); Firewall and Anti-Virus are off; Hard Reset the Phone; I've re-installed Active Sync, as well as Deleted/Re-Installed my Mobile Device Profile.
I am at a loss. Any ideas? If I overlooked something please refer me.
Thanks

could you quote the full error message? you are probably getting two messages, I would need to see the exact error text of the first message.
and as for the second message that you are probably getting - is it offering the enablerapi CAB link by any chance? (btw you didn't mention whether you installed the CAB file or not. this may be needed to get it going.)
PS: it would have been better to post in the main Hard-SPL thread
Usually I've seen this problem solved by ensuring you are running with admin rights as well as confirming that you uncheck the high speed sync option for activesync on USB.
