I have a HTC Tilt. Is there a hack or something to boost the power for the signal? I know for home routers you can flash the firmware and adjust the power. I don't mind if it uses more battery. If I can turn it off/on that would be even better.
I bought this for my home but I actually haven't installed it yet but at work I can't install this. If there is no software boost than is there a small USB external antenna that I can buy? I need something for work.

What you bought is really the only hardware solution I know of (short of some DIY hack that me exist).
Honestly if you don't get good reception at home or work you might want to try a different carrier (as I assume most of your day is at one of those two locations).
The only other alternative is to flash your device with a different Radio ROM. Each Radio has different characteristics and depending on your area one may work better for you. Look in the Wiki about Radios and how to flash to get started.
flash the radio.
the only thing that you can do is experiment with different radios and see which one is best for your preferences.
read the forum guide on how to flash radio

hi... im new pda user here, my autry just give me 1 used qtek 9100(im poor,no money buy pda phone), and i know it same with wizard cox the design is totally same.
the phone is using 2.17 rom(my autry used it for 1 and half years)and i think is quite outdated. beside that, the phone come with no radio function.
i plan to flash to the lastest rom myself, and im supprise that the lastest rom include radio function, i would like to ask is that my phone can support it, and if i success upgrade it, then my phone will have radio function, rite?? it no need require external hardware for radio function??
beside that, i found that some forumer mention their wizard is G3, or G4, wat the different for it?? and my phone belong to which G??
no 1 can help me??
The 'radio' that is mentioned in relation to new roms has nothing to do with AM/FM radio functionality. The radio rom is the one that handles the communication with the GSM/CDMA network. It will not allow you to listen to broadcasts from radio stations; the Wizard don't have that functionality.
As for the G3/G4, this has been mentioned many times already, e.g. here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281241
I have flashed my unlocked Vodafone 750v used on AT&T in US several times to
1.15-VFE
firmware 1.52.3.00
How do I flash to a more stable radio ROM?
I have such bad reception after about 3 months of an otherwise initially very stable ROM, that the phone part is barely usable now. My present ROM otherwise stable with no need for resets, but I have noticed the phoen reception gets worse with time, has anyone else noticed?
I am almost ready to give up on the Treo 750 if I can find a comparable device with threaded SMS & HSDPA

Changing your radio will NOT fix broken SIM cards, WiFi problems, Bluetooth issues or external GPS problems, Nor will it magic up a signal from nowhere if you live in a poor coverage area It may however resolve some network connectivity issues or help improve data speeds.
Having the latest release does NOT necessarily mean it is the best ROM for your network or country. In extreme cases a later radio may introduce more issues than it fixes so treat all upgrades with caution.
It is (in extreme cases) possible for the radio firmware to kill actual radio hardware if something is badly wrong or a radio firmware is buggy. This is rarely seen but is potentially a real risk.
Any update that drives the hardware "harder" in order to increase the gain of both the transmit element and recieve pre-amp element in any radio module is usually at the expense of the lifespan of the radio device. To put it simply, high output devices tend to have shorter lives than low output devices.
Problems with the device emitting more heat than usual, shorter battery life, long drop out periods where the device looks for a network or other "odd" intermittent radio issues can be a warning that something may not be right.
Recently the battery consumption of popular radio stack versions have been tested and compared. See this thread for more details.
Finally - always experiment cautiously, be aware of the risks and minimise them and read other peoples experiences on the forums before just taking the latest image and flashing it (i.e cross reference posts, see where posters are reporting from and take some proper time to do some research BEFORE considering flashing a new image - this way you are less likely to encounter problems and should have a good idea of how an upgrade will perform before exposing your device to any risk).

Thanks fatality, that looks like a Hermes radio ROM, does it work on the Treo 750?
10 charcaters
Yeah, Use the KaiserCustomRUU utility - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334890
Place one of the Hermes roms (.nbh) files in the same folder and execute and follow instructions
Hermes and Treo use the same chipset and the Hermes ones I have tried (3 or 4 of the latest) have worked fine
You will need to hardSPL your device though - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=334100
Some roms will work differently and you should be able to find one suitable for your carrier/data/battery needs...
ps. i of course hold nothing resonsible but i have got into no trouble myself...
is there any way i can make my tilt phone to get a better stronger Signal Strength? i think i heard something about radios? This is all i want and need.
It's possible that a radio can help. Searching the forum for various reports on the different radios is recommended.
You may want to consider that your bars will always fluctuate but the important thing is that you have service. So if I have service in an area and have 2 bars, I will most likely not realize a difference if I had 4. Try looking in teh Kaiser forum under different radios and read what each one does. Even though they have a few for Kaiser, you should not use them unless you know which rom you have.
So how do i install this radio rom? is there a cab version
There is a whole guide on the wiki that you should check out. Once you have Hard SPL installed and your phone unlocked, it is a peice of cake.
ahhh this sound too complicated
Hi all
Ive asked this in the orange thread and also searched for this, but cant seem to get a clear yes/no answer, hope someone can help.
I, for example, am on Orange, and use an Orange SIM.
The question is this, and a noobish one I quess: Being on Orange -- does having the official Orange Rom installed on my phone ofer me any advantages in terms of gprs/edge/ internet browsing speed? In other words, will my internet connection be faster if i have the official rom from Orange, or is this quite irrelevant, compared to (the much prefered) Roms on here? Is the official network Rom somehow "optimized" so that the internet speed is improved on a phone that runs on the same network? Orange Rom on Orange network, in this case?
Hope I make myself clear...Any clarification much appreciated! Thanks for everything...again!
Official carrier ROMs has almost got nothing to do in improving your signal strength or connection speeds. If you are concerned about that, you can different radio ROMs. But on the safe side, I suggest that if you are not having any problems, don't change anything.
Regardless of what ROM you use here, as long as you are not changing your radio. You wont have any significant change with your network connection. Fyi, as far as I know, there are 2 ROMs to use to flash a specific part in our phones. The PDA (Operating System) and radio (Phone).

Well explained.
@ skipper78 - If your looking to improve your signal, gps then your options would be to use apps like QuickGPS & HTC GPSTool or to update your radio.
Your network connection would not be altered changing to a cooked rom
Thanks a lot guys, that clarifies it once and for all -- i dont have to worry about using the undesirable orange ROM.
I am using Duttys V4.3 final, radio 1.14.25.24. Do you think this radio is one of the better options for me?
I like the rom very much -- and by the way my connection speed is not by any means "slow"--but obviously-- the faster the better.
And forgot to mention, its a blackstone.
Thanks again for the quick and clear replies!

We obviously assumed it was blackstone as your rom wouldn't have worked on another device and this is the HD forum
You are currently using the latest official radio, though signal strength also depends on location. If you want to try a non-official radio like 1.16 which I am using you would need to security unlock your device first and then download it from here.
As for which radio is best for you, you have 2 options:
1. Read each radio thread and see what results others have had in your location
2. Try each radio (only is 3-4 official ones and 3-4 un-offical, though I would only try 1.16 as it is the better of the 4)
Yes, after reading it i thought it was a bit pointless adding that
But hey many thanks for the explanations and links. Im in south america at the moment so im not really using data connection much, way to expensive -- as soon as im back in the uk i will experiment with a few different radios. How come you prefer the 1.16 if you dont mind me asking? Do you find it gives you faster connection speed?
Cheers!

I wrote a reciew on the 1.16 thread. Bsically it had a better GPS fix, better signal stength & slight improvement on battery
I'm closing this thread as everything appears to have been answered.

Hi,
please excuse my stupid question - I'm a newbie and English is not my first language:
What exactly does the term "radio" refer to? I only know it as in "listening to a radio station". Is that it or does the term actually refer to the cell phone signals?
I guess the answer to the first question also helps with the remaining questions I have:
There are tons of threads about flashing of the radio (like: "[Resources] Rhodium GSM Radio Collection"), but what do they actually do?
Which radio version should I get (I'm from Germany using O2)? The above mentioned thread says I need to look up the region in the wiki, but the wiki leads back to that exact same thread.
Thanks in advance, Google just gave me a bunch of sites about streaming radio to my phone, but somehow I don't think that is the whole story.
Edit: I did some more research and then I googled for GSM, I got on to the right track. So this is definitely not about listening to my favorite station on better quality.
However, I still wonder why to upgrade and if so, which version...
The cell phone "radio" refers to both the hardware and the software used to send/receive signals over the cell network. GPS also uses the same radio. When talking about flashing the radio, the software component of this is being referred to. Flashing a different radio can (possibly) improve cell reception, as well as battery life (phone constantly trying to connect will drain the battery, flashing a new radio can help alleviate this).
What radio is "best" if often geographically dependent. Also, the newer radios tend to work better than older ones, but that's not always the case. Perhaps somebody in Germany can provide guidance on this radio works the best in your area.

I see, thank you!
So since I do want to make the best use of the GPS (hopefully with TomTom), this seems to be a rather important issue then.
