I'm sorry if this sounds a little mean, but I've just dealt with another iPhone user who tried to walk up to me and iPhone me to death.
I'm sooooo tired of these smug iPhone fanbois walking up to me and trying to slam my Sprint Touch Setup. I'm sick of dealing with the iSmug that comes with the iPhone. If you're tired of it too, here's a guide on how to handle some iPhone-equipped lemming... (guide is a work in progress and not all iPhone owners are smug idiots)
1. Windows Mobile phone (preferably Sprint Touch because of Sprint TV or use MobiTV)
2. Microsoft Voice Command
3. PointUI (or choice of snazzy UI)
4. Opera Mobile 9.5 beta 405 (or above whenever that comes out)
5. Conduits Pocket Player (Shoutcast internet Radio)
6. S2U2 (optional)
7. PocketCM software of choice
8. SPB Fullscreen Keyboard
9. Unlimited 3G data plan
10. Jabra BT8010 (or Stereo Bluetooth -A2DP- headset of choice)
11. MicroSD card (4GB or more)
12. Games (optional)
Step 1: Install and get used to using the above software
Step 2: use normally, iPhone-toting individual will approach you (They usually walk up to me while I'm enjoying some Live TV)
Step 3: Answer their questions
Step 4: Smile at any remarks
Step 5: (Only in quiet area) When they show off the iPhone's interface, ask them the following "You still need a touch interface?" and show off Microsoft Voice Command
Step 5a: Show them GPS
Step 6: Throw in how much you've spent on your phone and headset
Step 7: Walk away while listening to/watching media of your choice using A2DP headphones
Optional note: If they try to show off Multitouch and/or auto-rotate, just shrug your shoulders, show how your device rotates the screen/zooms, and tell them that, while those are cute features, you'd rather have voice command, 3G, true GPS, live TV, removable battery, microsd card slot, handwriting recognition, ability to record video, A2DP, etc.. instead.
Congrats! You've just helped them realize that they don't have the best mobile device on the planet!
Keep the world iSmug free!

iPhone = ready to use out of the box, simple interface, no need to read instructions, limited functionality, does what you need it to do

Windows Mobile Phone = useful, fun, needs a little work before it's up and running, requires people to read instructions before operating
Great list! Unfortunately most iPhone users will see Voice Command as a negative thing..the only reason they bought the iPhone was so they could be seen fiddling with it in public. Using it through BT with voice commands for true hands-free takes all the vouyerism out of thier $600 piece of eye candy.
so true... but I have to admit that when one iPhoner asked "where's the headphone jack on your little phone?" I couldn't help but smugly reply "jack? heh, I don't need... a jack"
+1
iPhone fanboys are lame, but good luck making them change their mind as Apple is a kind of religion for them.
Someday Steve Jobs will sue the apple trees for copyright infringment, and ask royalties to all peoples eating apples, then the fanboys will *maybe* realize...

i have to say that i'm seriously pissed about all those iPhoneys (that's what i call iPhone-toting Idiots).
Three of my Buddies own one of these things, and two of them ALWAYS take them out while we are at McDonalds 'cos there's a WirelessLAN HotSpot in there.
They order their food, take the tablets to our table and before they eat, they check their mails or look at stupid Videos on Youtube.
Meanwhile, their only lukewarm Burgers get cold, just like the fries... but hey, at least they were able to show off their stuff.
Take note that they have their iPhones for about... half a year now or so, and the fanboyism still has not lessened... not ONE bit.
Only one of the three is not taking his iPhone out on every occassion, just when he get an SMS or a Call... in which case i would also take out my WM6-Phone.
When he has something new on his Phone, he shows it to me but is not trying to stomp my Phone to the Ground in saying "my phone can do this and this and this".
iPhone Users like him i actually like, because they understood that it's a GODDAMN PHONE.
It is true that the I-Phone is a great device. It does not do as much as a PDA that is true but it does so the limited processes extremely smooth and I belive that is what Apple was going for. I personally love the fact that I can use MS Office apps on my phone. This means that I can do my homework before class and then print it out. I don't think I-Phone can do any of that. I can play just about any videogame rom out there on my PDA. I don't think the I-Phone can do that either. When it comes down to the bottom line, The PDA phones are more powerful and for more advanced users. My phone actually makes me learn and think when I use it.
To me, your forgetting one little new program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=385227
proper youtube as well!
so far, two people I see on a regular basis have taken their iphones back after seeing my Sprint Touch in action. it's mostly due to Sprint TV and pointui.
My personal favorite is when I'm using my laptop and have my phone connected and they ask why.
"You can get the internet on your laptop through your phone at high speed without needing one of those PCMCIA or ExpressCards?"
If they're nice, I then ask if they want to use it as a router instead of paying for the stupid hotspot, and their eyes squint as they realize they've been left with an underpowered device.
But seriously... the ones who actually figure out how to access their files from anywhere and remote desktop their computers using the iPhone are actually mostly normal, since they are a step above the toy trike people I usually run into. These are the people that enjoy the device for bringing out some of its potential but are ALWAYS pissed there's no 3G and no support for editing common document formats (with the exception of word documents after hacking).
I do find it funny that the toy trike people will try to laugh about some WinMo interfaces trying to add functionality like the iPhone (mostly touch interfaces), but totally fail to realize that there are a lot of apps for iPhone trying to act like WinMo.
The iPhoneHacks site application section is just chock full of things copying WinMo apps... A few examples (with clarification of WM app when necessary): Handwriting recognition, MMS capability, copy/paste functionality, speed dial, internet radio (WMP compatible streams, resco radio), contact search, custom ringtones, VOIP apps, emulators, music apps (drum machine, etc), uploading photos to flickr (yahoo go), disk mode (wm5storage), instant messaging... I'll stop now.
Apparently, it's so innovative that it restricts you from doing basic things that all of our phones do almost from the get go.

Normally I don't either, but not only do some iPhone owners want to make sure they have the top Phone, they want to try and rub it in the face of any possible competition.
I had one too many iSmuggies bug me only to end up walking away crying because their $500 phone can't do as much.
One bit I saw on Family Guy sums it up...
Proud Dad: Hey, wanna see my kids?
Peter: No
*guy whips out his wallet, flips to his kid's picture, and starts punching Peter repeatedly in the face with it*
Proud Dad: Aren't they gorgeous?! Aren't they gorgeous?! Aren't they gorgeous?! Aren't they gorgeous?!!!!

I don't either, but I will point out things to people that may not have all the information they need to make a good decision. I genuinely feel sorry for people that buy devices thinking they're buying the "best" because it's what everyone is excited about, and may not know what they're missing.
The iPhone does have a market... idiots and lazy people that don't like to read.
want to really put them to shame? heres a little list i came up with... (i can think of more but its my bed time)
• GPS Voice guided Navigation? – iNAV Guidance with Bluetooth GPS, aww the iphone doesn’t support serial over Bluetooth
• Google maps with GPS – aww the iphone only has crappy wifi location tracking that is usually 10kms off lol
• Sim contacts – aww the iphone cant copy your sim contacts to the phones internal memory
• MMS messages – aww have to pay for a 3rd party solution, and then after paying AT&T cuts off MMS from your account remotely due to your IMEI matching that of an iphone.. aww too bad
• Bluetooth OBEX transfer – aww you cant send pictures to your friend’s razr because your iphone’s Bluetooth stack blows chunks, cant send pictures, ringtones, notes, business cards or anything
• Bluetooth A2DP – aww have to use crappy apple headphones because the jack is recessed and you can use wireless headphones cuz the BT stack sucks a cow
• Its great when apple says the iphone has Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR and you can’t even use the 2.0 or the EDR part of it, (headsets generally don’t go past the 1.2 Bluetooth spec since its low quality audio and the pairing is the same)
• USB Card reader – aww iphone doesn’t show up as removable storage? How useless, not only do WM phones show up using WM5torage but they also act as a card reader (hot swap cards)
• 3.5/3.75G – aww the iphone doesn’t have HSDPA, not only that, EDGE is now 3 generations behind on wireless technology, the iphone has a lot of catching up to do
• Video calls – aww no 3g on the iphone so that means no video calling… too bad…
• Suggestive text – aww the iphone doesn’t help you type out long words, you have to do it all by yourself on a ****ty no feel keyboard
• Universal translator – aww the iphone cant do speech/language translations like WM phones can with ETACO universal translator
• Photo templates – aww the iphone only has a crappy 1 button operated camera, how ridiculous, no video, no burst shot, no color filters, NOTHING! What a POS
• LED flash – iphone doesn’t have any type of Led flash to light your way in the dark, I guess you’ll need to find someone with a TyTN to lead the way in the dark
• Batteries – aww your iphone died because you have a non removable battery where my tytn has the option of a replaceable battery as well as a 3000mah double sized battery
• Proprietary connector – aww cant charge your iphone at work cuz of the proprietary connector? I just use a standard usb to usb mini cable that I can find laying around from cameras, blackberries, Motorola’s, scanners, and pretty much any other usb peripheral device since they all use the standard mini USB connector.
• Headphone jack – hahaha you have to PAY again for an adapter to use your Shure headphones which you already paid $200+ on cuz the jack on the iphone is the worst design of mankind
• Keyboard sucks on the iphone since you cant rotate it in most programs? Well most windows mobile phones will give you a choice of keyboards in all modes of display as well as skinable interfaces, also if you don’t like OSK’s you can use the slide out KB found in most PDA phones 8125, 8525, 8925
• Non removable storage, too bad, the iphone flash drive is slow and non-upgradable, where as the microsd in my phone went from 1GB to 2GB (which was only $11.95 to buy) to 4GB now to 8GB with 16 and 32GB coming out this year, well looks like my 3 year old phone beats your brand new phone in the storage department. Also new Patriot MicroSD cards that have a class 6 rating can copy at 18MB/s, lets see your iphone do that, oh wait you can’t because your POS can’t even show up as a removable flash drive
• Getting tired of your iphone animation? Or just annoyed with it because most animations in general get annoying since it slows your productivity. Too bad no choice, on my tytn I can choose what I want or turn all animation off completely, hell I can even make it look like the iphone with the S2U2, S2P and S2V programs
• You spent $500 on a crippled phone that can barely make voice calls? Wow I only spent $200 on mine and I don’t have to pay a mandatory data fee, hell I don’t even need a voice plan since my pda phone(s) all start up even without a sim card.
• I can talk to my phone and it talks back to me (Cyberon or MS voice command) it even reads my appointments for me while im driving to work! Better pull over to the side of the road to fiddle with your iphone since you don’t have the tactile feel of buttons so you can navigate without looking
• You have to do WHAT to install apps? TFTP? SSH? Ridiculous, I just send an installer cab to my phone and tap it.
• I can RDP to email and files servers from my phone if needed (im in IT support BTW) with the iphone, you cant even get on the network since your not able to add the phone to a domain.

We have a thread about it here http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=80008
Any news about pricing? CoPilot is relatively more expensive than TomTom. Is it worth shelling out more (if that is the case) considering we already have TomTom on the Tytn II and 'only' need the maps?
CoPilot 7 not working ... no fun!
I just got the CoPilot Live 7 software and I've tried everything possible to get it to work and nothing. I copied the 2GB microSD contents over to my 6GB card and executed an autorun and nothing. Tried again and launched the .cab file and nothing. Hooked it up to the laptop and installed the software from there saving it to the storage care ... nothing. I uninstalled between each load attempts and absolutely nothing. I don't want to put it on the phone as it runs from their dang SD card, so why won't it run from mine? Has to be some kind of proprietary thing or a bug. I don't want to load it on the main memory as I'm runing out. I've used CoPilot since version 3 and have always saved it onto the card.
If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Where did you get it from?
Initial Impressions of CoPilot 7
I know there have been many discussions regarding GPS SW here & elsewhere. I have been looking for GPS mapping SW that; 1- is resident on the Tilt, 2 - capable of obtaining maps for all of NA, Europe & Austraila, 3 - does not require a live Internet connection, but will use it if available to provide U.S. city traffic & other services and 4 does not require a monthly subscription fee.
Based on various discussions, I had pre-ordered the new version of CoPilot 7 under the 30 day return policy. They were very good during the order process, answering my questions promptly. The SW arrived on Friday 11/9. I installed it & spent the last 2 days out using it around Colorado. Here are my initial impressions...
Installation:
Copied the files from their uSD card to my 6GB uSD. Plugged the card in & the install went without problem. It found the Tilt GPS without any configuration. (I'm also running / testing VisualGPS, GPSGate, Google Maps on this Tilt) I also installed the PC version of CoPilot for planning. This also went in w/o problem.
Operation:
As a relatively knowledgeable user, I always attempt to use the product w/o reading any manual. This tells me how intuitive the operation is & I use that as a measurement on how well it was designed. On this count, I was less than impressed. The UI at first touch was not intutitve. This changed a little over time & by following the tips at startup. I like the voice directions, but miss the voice not naming the up-coming street name for the turn.
One major thing I noticed is that the lookup of POIs is very slow & sometimes didn't find things like major airports (Denver's DIA) or attractions (Mount Evans & Pikes Peak) properly.
Operation of the PC-based planning SW was also not intuitive. I finally figured it out, but it could use work. Double clicks were used when a single click selection was more intutitive.
On the plus side, after I got a couple of trips planned, they executed almost flawlessly. When I deviated from the planned route, the SW re-routed quickly and gave relatively good voice directions for the change.
Maps:
They seem like they may be a little out of date. They placed the GPS location of my house in the correct place physically, but in the wrong city by name. Some of the routing provided by the system attempts to take me through a street in my area that is permenently closed & has been for 2 years. When attempting to load a destination address, and the street in not in the map DB, it will not allow loading of the destination. This was a street in IL that has been there for at least 2 years.
Considering the competition:
I'm not into TeleNav as I don't want to pay by the month and I need maps outside the US w/o a large data bill. I don't feel like I want to be nickled & dimed on the cost of maps like some of the other products. I do want to be able to receive traffic updates for the U.S. The maps & SW must be able to be put on my card now & in the future as they get larger and not locked to the Vendors uSD card (Garmin).
Concludions:
Will I keep CoPilot? I'm not sure yet. Compared to what's out there, I might be able to get used to the UI. I wish they provided a way to give feedback on the map errors & allow more rapid fixes to be downloaded.
Sorry for the long-winded post. I'm going to keep using this for a while & I expect that as I become more familiar with the UI, the experiance should get better.
A quick additional note... CoPilot does have an on-line feedback mechinism for errors in maps. I will be driving my area to document the changes. Still not sure how long it will take to get the updates into the maps.
Thanks & please anyone else out there with any experiances? I'm looking to compare notes before my 30 days is up.

Just wondering, I bought mine directly from CoPilot's website. Where do they mention the 30 day return policy? I might return mine since it is missing Text-2-Speech functionality.

Hey everyone - this is my first post!
I just picked up an "AT&T" Tilt (with camera) and had my company sync it up with BlackBerry Connect/BlackBerry Enterprise. I have to say - this phone is AMAZING. I'm "upgrading" from a BlackBerry 8800 - which was no slouch either - just not as feature filled as the Tilt . Anyway, I have collected a nice selection of applications so far - but ONE capability is "missing". I would love to be able to download (or stream) specific music tracks of my choice right to my phone. This would REALLY help me for periods of time at the gym, at work, or waiting for airlines (where I would like to get music, but do not have immediate access to my PC). I see that Napster has a new service called "Napster Mobile" set up for this purpose... does anyone know if/how this is available for the Tilt, or if there are competing services available? I don't mind paying for the music (I will only download legally) - but I'm having trouble finding a client or simple webpage with this functionality. Thanks everyone!
bump - anyone?
i am getting a tilt 8925, can anyone help me here how to install any other navigation programs, so i don't need to use telenav which i need to pay this ocmpany 10 dollars a month. i am a total newbie here, please guide me or instruct me, thank you very much.
No you don't. You can either use google maps which requires data or get tomtom or igo which lets you download the maps so it uses no data or subscription.
No, I would quite discourage the use of Telenav. I had it for about 2 days and I was so disappointed I had it turned off immediately.

so tomtom is the only one that doesnt require a data plan?
TeleNav TomTom etc..Garmin Moble XT is my choice
If you want TeleNav then you need a data plan since it is server based..ie: no maps stored on your device. If you want traffic updates, gas prices etc..etc you'll need a data program with any of them and BE SURE to block your data service if you dont want that..otherwise it might and will connect to Media.Net and you'll have to pay.
I agree.TeleNav was awfull for me..I had 1 month free and stayed for another because I missed the cancel date. There were countless problems with connections to the server, its slow because its server based thus I missed alot of turns while it refreshed etc. Also at full volume it was not easy to hear on the phone. If you want the free month go directly to TeleNav.com. But there are much better programs out there. The upside is the Traffic Alerts, the Turn Voice says " turn left onto Main Street" and they are easy to cancel by phone..they must be use to it!!
Someone mentioned Live Search..I used that when TeleNav gave me problems, which was 4 days straight once, and it is a very good FREE GPS program ( if you dont want traffic etc). THe only thing it lacks is Voice and I found that to be to dangerous for me to use all the time. I drive about 3.5k a month. I still keep it as a back-up.
I didnt try TomTom and went straight to Garmin Moble XT..$99 bucks loaded on a 2gb micro card and there plenty room left on the card for other programs, data, music, pics, etc... The maps are VERY CLEAR , fast and easy to use. I have Media.Net and the traffic warning are good but not as easy to re-route or not re-route as TeleNav was while driving, although it does it automatically for you. Thats all user preference stuff, prorammable in the settings. It has VOICE which is clear and loud enough. It does not say "turn on main street" but does have adequate voice prompts ie" turn left in .2 miles... .1 miles....500ft...etc" Also it has a nice large text display of the turn on top of the map..easy to see with a glance. Oh yeah and a turn "tone" too. Customer support, for the one time I had a question, was so-so...but that seems to be a dying art everywhere. I didnt see a phone number either but I didnt look that close for that.
Hope that helps..I know I had questions with all this stuff myself
ciao!
TeleNav TomTom etc..Garmin Moble XT is my choice
Wanted to add..in addition you'll need a cradle and charger since the GPS drains a full charge in no time flat. I also bought the external GPS antennae which really, really helps in low signal areas and I recommend it..around $40 bucks shipped from various places
ciao!
edit; nvm, found answer.
Don't forget iGuidance 4. This is my choice as my personal favorite.

No, several others do as well.
Do you already have a preferred GPS software? Chances are they make one for a PDA/SmartPhone.

The road in Orange has been there for 1 year and half, in Red for a Year, and in Pink for about 9 months.
It's no where to be seen on Windows Live.
So, you got a:
Not up-to-date map database
Low quality rendering with roads showing up as single pixel sticks
Road names not showing up unless you zoom in like crazy.
Who is in stone-age again?
i use Tom Tom navigator 6. i thinks there is cab file here for a free trial.

And for me in Lorton, VA GoogleMaps mobile doesn't have my street at all (lived here for 2.5 years and street was built 3+). LiveSearch does. Plus maps.google.com and GoogleEarth have my street. Explain that one.
So up to date maps for GoogleMaps vs LiveSearch may just be place specific. For my location LiveSearch is better. Plus I like the livesearch interface better and the voice recognition is awesome; I use it at least 3-4 times a week.
8925 GPS software
If you are gonna use software that is free then Windows live search is the better one that I have downloaded but it uses your data plan. If you want speech directions like "turn left in .8 miles" then the one I have used for the PDA is Garmin mobile XT. I had bought a NUVI 660 at the same time and I leave it home from time to time and just use my Att tilt with the Mobile XT software and a nice PDA holder (Akron 929) that attaches to the vents (install the clips upside down). You can set the Garmin Mobile XT to not use your data plan. But if you have a data plan allow Garmin XT to access the internet because you get free traffic via Garmin online before it calculates the route. Google maps does have a neet function in that you can "ping" a cell phone tower to get a general location within 1000"ft but useless if you have real GPS. Hope this helps.

I agree, map accuracy is going to depend on location, from what I've seen with Live in my area it's totally fine. The features you get with Live are far better than they are with Google, being able to say 'Chinese Food' while you're driving and it points you to the closest one is just wayy too cool! Another nice feature is that it shows you your next direction, how far (and counts down as you get closer), beeps to let you know something is coming up, then gives you another tone to let you know you're on the right track. Do you REALLY need someone telling you to turn on Main street?
Personally, I just don't see the need to purchase one of the Commercial packages as what you get with Live is pretty good.
Besides, if I do have a problem with Live's maps I'll just load up Google!
Good luck!
-RT
I also perfer Live Search. For me when I enter an adress Live Search is usually right on. Google maps is a little off. My house is off by one home with Google, It is 3 houses off with a client's adress. I don't have this problm with Live Search.

Add on 12.11.2007: thanx all the replys and helps that helped me understand more about GPS. lots of you prefer window live search? because
i don't have any data plan, just 39.99 monthly fee. so i still be able to use that live search right? and how to install the Garmin Mobile XT and Live search in my 8925 ?????? please forgive me , i am really a phone newbie. thank you once once again.
Do NOT use live search on a pay per use data plan. It DOES USE DATA and at a pretty good clip too. On no data plan your only real option would be a purchased 3rd party app that includes maps without needing any download.

thank you, it is clear now. i went to BT site downloading a Garmin XT mobile, and i plan to put it in my microSD card. so after i incert my card to 8925 kaiser, it will automatically work ?
Is there any freeware for Telenav on the Tilt
than paying $10 per month
like we did on the Mobi Tv & Xm Radio
1) So i've played around with it for about a few hours now... why can i see the battery icon on the top anymore? Futhermore, how come when I charge it with the adapter, it doesn't give a indication that it's charging whatsoever? (it never happened a few hours ago)
2) I use that media player panel to play my music.. but my album art doesn't show up. On my computer the album art are attached to each mp3. ???
3) Alright.. i just took a picture with its front camera, and whats with the quality?? its so poor, even compared to my previous cellphone 2 megapixel.
So far.. im a BIT disappointed mainly because of it's size and thickness.. and that its interface and programs feel a bit incompetent for it's size...
The plus side is that i love the slide keyboard, the fact that we have control/input via touchscreen, stylus, trackpad, d-pad, and or keyboard, AND that it runs windows live hotmail and messenger (something ive always wanted in a phone)

Welcome to the family lo l.
I guess you should first update it to the newest firmware. Download the SE updater from the Sony Ericsson site. That will improve the pics and video quality.
Did you install apps on it? There are many apps that change the battery indicator position. SPB Mobile Shell for example. You can tell that it is charging by looking at the flashing LEDs lolz.
I can't help you about the album art, because I have never had any interest in using it .
Cheers.

1) I totally forgot, my battery charging icon is skinned so I can't give an accurate answer. You probably did something in: Start Menu > Settings > System > Clocks and Alarms > More
2) Your album art is improperly tagged. Send the files to me I will tag them for you.
3) Front camera is a BASIC 1.3 MP just like most front cameras on most phones prior to 2009.
...
A) The Xperia has been universally praised for being pretty thin and narrow.
B) That's windows mobile for ya, want something pretty out of the box than get an iPhone.
C) That's the trade off for it's interface.
Thanks for the replies guys.

1) I have "Display the clock on the title bar in all programs" checked, and "Sound alarms even when the device is set to silent or vibrate" unchecked.
Those are the only 2 things in Start Menu > Settings > System > Clocks and Alarms > More. Could it be that I checked the clock in title bar? why does that make the battery indicator go away?
2) Oh i see.. i figured it was that. How I tag them:
In windows media player > library > Now playing > right click song & advance tag editor > pictures.
Its the same way itunes does it too. And thanks so much for the offer! but i have a ton of songs. Could you explain how to tag them properly?
3) Thanks! i assumed that was so! Shouldve tried the back camera
A) Lol.. I guess it may because I am too used to my older model phones (which arent smartphones) and the ridiuclously paper thin iPod touch.
I really did want an iPhone before this, but didnt feel like spending so much for the new 3gs. Maybe depending how my later xperiences are (pun lol), i may keep this phone or trade it for the iPhone. Both have their pros and cons that kinda balance each other out for me.. I think the iPhone may be bigger though in overall volume.
my clock does the same thing and it is very annoying. normal bar is battery, sound setting, 3g reception, and then 3g. yes, it is redundant, but when i turn on clock, it eats the battery indicator instead of the double 3g.

1) I am not going to help you with this because I'm just getting so tired of helping and I can't seem to think of the problem
2) If you are using Windows Vista Home Edition and use the trial version of Tag&Rename you can upload the albums and test if they work on your X1. It should display perfectly. If you are satisfied, than the application is well worth the 15 to 30 dollars that it costs. Just make sure the album arts are under 1.5 megabytes and the dimensions are under 1500x1500 pixels.
This is not a limit issue, Xperia is able to display pictures of greater resolution than 1500x1500. But it slows down your device.
iTunes blow, don't use itunes. And never use windows media player for tagging, it sucks.
If you tried tag and rename and it doesn't work than send me a file and I'll see if I can make it work.
A) If you ever swap, atleast swap it for an iPhone 3GS. The iPhone is wider and a bit longer, but it is thinner.
Do you like your Xperia even slightly? Then you will hate the iCrap. It is supremely not functional, cannot get any work done and is basically a glorified mp4 player. It is good for only one thing - TO THROW IT IN THE GARBAGE. It does absolutely nothing that a modern device does.
You can play music and vids - Yeah, but you need iTunes first. iTunes is the pinnacle of human programing failure.
You can surf the web - Yeah, that screen is nice, but you get NO flash. More than half of the sites use flash nowadays. Good luck getting "the full and uncompromised web experience". Apple = stupid liars and deceivers.
.......... there is nothing else that you can do with it.
biggest problem with iphones imho is that it's not really possible to take
one of my own ebooks from my computer and put it on it
and read it and have bookmarks
same thing with other files I may want to move it it
it's more of an itunes extender then a pda in many ways

Absolutely. I read a lot on my X1. No matter what the files are (txt, doc, pdf, lit), I can transfer them in seconds and open them right up. I am so used to doing it the easy way, that I would break my device if I had to convert or use an intermediate program for such a mundane activity.

I do like it; for all the reasons I mentioned in my first post: the slide, the inputs and controls, and that it runs windows live mail and messenger (biggest plus for me). I've have the iPod Touch for about over half a year so I've experienced with their OS for quite a while. The reason I wanted the iPhone was because I didn't want to carry both a phone and an iPod Touch, but now I see thats no longer the case since I'm open to new phones now
The iPhone's functions and features fail in comparison to most smartphones out there now.. The one and ONLY aspect why I see it superior is because of the hundreds and thousands of apps in the app store. I have about 100 cracked apps (sorry if we aren't suppose to talk about wares) in my iPod touch, and it really makes up for the functions, form factor, etc.
I guess the xperia as a whole is a very good device. It's just my transition from the ipod touch to it is what has distorted me from fully admiring the product (though I DO in some aspects). The apple OS has apps neatly lined up in homescreens, where as in windows mobile, its all over the place (you have it in menus, text, icons, etc) and the xperia also has that panels to make application navigating more tedious, but I do like the panels and I wish there were more (official youtube, and twitter panels, perhaps?).
Thanks for the encouragement on the xperia and input though guys, keep it up! I may just learn to fully admire it

It's tagged properly, your MP3 works perfect in my media panel, and the front cover is displayed properly.
1) Delete All of your MP3's
2) Launch the Media Panel
3) Make sure 0 mp3 tracks appear in your Media Panel
4) Go to Start Menu > Settings > Connections > USB to PC
5) Make sure you have active-sync disabled
6) Change your connection type to Disk Drive
7) Upload your MP3 into 1 folder.
8) I think this should fix your mp3 library.
If this doesn't work than please update your Xperia to the latest version using Sony Ericsson's website.
Open your battery cover, take out your battery, look inside the phone, and tell me if you see the code: X1a or X1i

Tried first method, didn't work-
I just had a long night struggling with updating but finally updated my xperia, & album art works and shows up now!!
poetryrocksalot - thank you so much. you are the biggest help, from before i got my xperia till now. my xperia is X1i.
Another question (hopefully the last, for a while anyway lol):
1) Is it possible to make the top bar of the start menu (in windows mobile) NOT show our previous loaded programs? i'd like it so that its a start menu with the programs i pinned.

There is no way to do that...unless you install Windows Mobile 6.5 or unless you install the start menu from Windows Mobile 6.5.
You can also install third party programs:
1) You can try Wisbar Advance which will cost you money, and which will slow down your taskbar
2) You can try quickmenu which is a freeware found the "development and hacking" forum. I really hate this software for some reason.
3) Try the Windows Mobile 6.5 Start Menu...which I hate even worst than quickmenu.
4) I think SPB Pocket Plus has a feature to add clock and battery at the same time on Xperia but you have to pay for it. Try the trial version first. This program causes 0 lag on your devices, and the other features can be disabled if you want.
5) There is application called batti power indicator, which creates a power bar on the top of your screen...or you can you wisbar advance to create a power bar on the top of your screen.

What benefits does Windows Mobile 6.5 have over 6.1? Or is it just the interface?
~~
Few more issues...
1) Apparently when i am in the Media panel, and I click the start menu (or the windows key on the keyboard), I can't use the track pad to move through the menu o_____o
2) Is there a pocket notepad? Why does the Notes app save in it's own format? Wouldnt an official txt editor (Notepad) be more plausible for windows mobile?

The only benefits of Windows Mobile 6.5 is that it is finger friendly.
-The home screen is a poorly made gimmick of Touch Flo 3D
-The start menu is finger friendly but it permanently removes the original start menu that I prefer
-The start menu is ****ing hard to organize and sort... this is the first time I am cussing on this forum because it sucks so ****ing hard (mods if you don't like my non-censorship than please censor it)
-The menus are very finger friendly
Personally, the only reason for me to switch is the finger friendly menus

Hello,
I've got HTC HD7 with 02 branding and am running Win XP.
I am desperately trying to access phone's internal memory over USB with no success. I would like to shift data so like used to do it on my old HTC Diamond. And I dont want to use the Zune crap, cause it only allows shifting media files like music and videos...
I mean, WM6, 6.1 and 6.5 had a sperate option (ActiveSync, Memory Access or Internet Sharing) when plugging device to the computer.
Is there any similar app or built-in functionality to do so???
Thanks and regards,

nope, zunes the only option right now.
i really do not understand microsoft... they announced wm7 as something absolutely groundbreaking and there are many functionalities i am missing even in comparison to wm6!!!
i mean, okay, i somehow can understand they removed activesync... but memory access via usb?! or wm6 to wm7 data migration?! i mean, these are basic functionalities every mobile device MUST have...
it really makes me think over about giving back my device...

I totally disagree, memory access by USB is not a must have function to sell a mobile phone by any means.
What data are you trying to put onto the device that won't be covered by Zune or a Windows Live/Google account etc?
i just think using pda as a memory stick is a very useful functionality... for example, shifting pdf's when being offline or similar...
Microsoft have taken the approach that in order to produce a stable platform, the file system needs to be locked down so that people cannot "tinker" with it. Its a sensible approach if you think about it from that perspective.
If this was such a big thing for you, why didn`t you check before purchasing?

Well, to each its own, some users TOTALLY DISAGREE with you, while I'm just like you thinking that a new system should be inclusive to all features and capabilities provided by the prior one.
Plus, tinkering with system file? well an 8 GB or 16 GB of storage SHOULD be used the way i Like it, not Locked out as some suggests, at least look ROM files, leaving the rest for the user preferences.
Final word, I TOTALLY AGREE with you about your complaint.

Now now Will,
I just have trouble grasping this type of thread - this was all known before launch and before devices were available to buy. But hey, whatever.
I've just bought a HD7 too, and I have to admit to being absolutely gutted. Admittedly I didn't do too much research into it before getting it but I just assumed that being a windows mobile device it would be reasonably friendly with windows on my desktop computer. I've been tinkering with zunes to get my old pictures and music onto the phone but it's just ghastly.
Chances are I'll ditch it and get an android methinks. Real shame because I used to love my old HD2.
admittedly, i didn't research on this phone before getting it... just because i trusted the plattform - wm6.1 and wm6.5 were stable enough... however, after getting the device, i must say it's nothing for "tweaker", but a pure media consumption system. and thats why i hate it - fancy layers, nice optics, easy-to-use apps, but... zero funtionality. using it makes me feel i'm a little schoolgirl wearing a pink t-shirt.
gonna give it back and get hd2. the lesson i learnt for the second time (after getting fresh-presented htc diamond touch in 2008):
it's better to have an older device with mature os and application landscape than to have the latest device with lots of "fancy" stuff!
never do the same mistake again... thanks to all for replies and warm greetings from germany!
For goodness sake, it was so well trailed that MS would make WP7 a locked down system it would have taken hardly any research to find it out. I wish I had the cash to purchase £500 smartphones with little or no research up front. There is nothing wrong with wanting to tweak etc. but to do so, get an android device, a WM6.5 device, a jail broken iPhone or wait until someone "jailbreaks" WP7. Sheesh it's like saying "OMG I bought a Toyota and am so disappointed to find it isn't a Ford"

Exactly.
Also there is a reason the product is called Windows Phone 7 and not Windows Mobile 7. I noticed its referred to as Windows Mobile 7 a lot in this thread.
Am I mistaken or didn't MS say they would still maintain updates to the old wm6.5 os as a side project?
also how can anyone say zune is ghastly? its easily the best media organizer there is 100times better than itunes and as for android i had a desire and the syncing was so basic and naff. Another good thing with zune is the music organization, look at itunes and getting album art it is dire. Zune on the other hand is easy as pie and if you cant find it in the library even a 5yo could use the manual edit tool. With Zune everything has the right name album art etc my itunes (i have a mac mini in my living room connected to my tv) is about 80% the rest is to messy to be bothered with. I found when syncing with my desire hardly any artwork came through and the media folders where dire to navigate (this is a biggie as i use it to play music in my car)
I think the thing here is as stated before, the facts are out there this phone is what it is. It is not a win 6.5 update it is a separate mobile os. The features it has are are far beyond anything else out there but if you want something that does something else then buy something else. You don't buy a toaster to fry chips.
+1 On the Zune is excellent front....awesome software

That's a late night half-drunk/half-stoned experiment just begging to be done... where's my toaster?
