New housing... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Heya,
I'm not sure if this is ok to post here but I need a new housing for my kaiser as I've broken the sliding mechanism. Has anyone fitted a new housing on their phone? How easy is it to do and are there any decent instructions around...?
TIA,
Michelle

already been discussed before. Go to google.com and type in housing for kaiser, etc. Be creative.
The search I did took me about 5 seconds and I got this:
http://www.cellulardr.com/TILTHOUSING.htm
There are plenty more sites. I remember reading a post on this site on the Kaiser Repair Manual. Maybe someone can help you out with that link.

Ok thanks for your help. I wasn't actually asking for a link to a housing - I already have several links to housing and have one in mind which I'd like to buy. I was actually asking if anyone had personally fitted a housing on the same phone as I have and how easy they found it. I was also interested in what instructions they used to fit the housing...
I did google this site and have a look around but the search facility isn't that brilliant on here, so I thought I'd just ask.
If someone could answer my questions, if they've had experience of fitting ahousing, then let me know?
Ta,
Michelle

Well if the housing says it's for the Kaiser, TILT. I would presume it to "Actually Fit". I only gave you the link b/c you did not state you had links for housing. Hope you can pull off the job though

New case!

OK then,
I was going to get a new housing for my sad looking Ameo. They come in the standard Ameo silver or a rather smart HTC black. I already have a silver case, but here is the question.
Do the black housings, wear, scratch, or paint rub away easy? I don't want to get one and find it looks crap after six months. They ain't cheap! before anyone else says it, I know it depends how you treat it. I'm on about normal wear and tear use. How does yours look now? are there any signs of the metal underneath showing?

Jay
Black Case On The "advantage"...
Hey Jay,
I have a HTC Advantage x7501, with the black case of course, and have been using it with "typical" every-day use now for about 6 months. I have never even seen one of the silver cased "Ameo" versions of the device in person, so my review is a bit "one-sided," if you will... Also, I have a friend with whom I work with that also owns the same model as I. With saying all that, and without having experienced the silver model, I would bet the silver model would hold up a bit better on the finish due to the fact that if the silver gets scratched, the metal beneath it looks much closer to the silver finish than the black. I have a couple small blemishes on mine, and I am very particular with my mobile devices, but after using day-by-day at work and home, it has managed to get marked up just a bit. The biggest problem is, if you get a scratch on it, the metal below sticks out "like a sore thumb!"
I definitely believe that the black finish is a bit more professional looking, where sometimes the silver finishes can make a device look cheap or make it stand out.
Anyways, to give you my honest account on TWO Advantage x7501 devices (black finish) after 6 or so months of daily use, it is overall good, and neither one shows any major signs of wearing finish. Also, we both use a case that the device "slides" tightly in and out of each time you use it (without the keyboard attatched), and the device really hasn't shown any real signs of wear on the sides where it rubs the case. However, if you do happen to mark it up in any way, you will definitely notice it. Again, I am very picky, so keep that in mind, but so you have a better idea of what I am saying, I attatched a couple of pics so you can see what it looks like when or if you do scratch or mark it.
HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
-Ryan
Also Note: Only one of the devices I wrote about is pictured, but are very similar in condition, and were both purchased slightly used.
X7501 Cosmetics...
I have had my X7501 for almost 10 months now and it only has one very tiny mark on the top right corner (you have to look hard to even see it).
Since I'm also very particular about my devices (I always keep them looking new) I just used a Sharpie (permanent marking pen) to "erase" the offending mark. This works great and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to touch-up black anodized aluminum like the Athena housing.
Wow! thanks for the reply Guys, Ryan that was one hell of a reply. Must have took you a while to do that and I appreciate it. toyfreak, the idea with the marker pen is a great one. I think on just that idea alone I will get black. Its harder to touch up silver! It looks better too.
Regards
Jay
Indeed is surprisingly hard coating, I carry mine in my pockets and can't say I'm careful with it, rather the opposite, I have it since it came out and there is only a little wear in one of the corners, hardly noticeable, where the scratches are more visible, is on the silver border next to the screen, not that it look bad or anything.
Black housing - Where?
I would like to know where you can buy a black housing for your Ameo, mine needs a new one as well!
And what about your keyboard, can you get a black one too?

Silver / AMEO
Hi guys,
Proud owner of a wonderful brick since 6 months in grey color I should say that if I new I would have choosen a different color.
The grey AMEO housing is far from being "time resistant"...
Since few weeks the "video camera" around the front cam as disappeared and the "Alert" will soon do the same.
I allways take good care of my stuf and I'am bit disapointed for a 1.000 bucks machine to see it !

Hi,
Just a quick update on the new housing. It's arrived, and I put it on. It looks great, so glad I got black. Thanks to those who took the trouble to answer this post so well.
If anyone needs a new housing for their device then let me know and I will let you know where to get them from. He claims to have a few left!

The X7501 does not have the internal or 2nd camera, the X7500 does. So I would have a big hole in my unit if I used that one. I don't know if the inside layout is any different but that's the only visible thing on the external end.
I need a new housing too.
Anychance you could PM me a link or contact for this.
Thanks in advance.

hi
you are talking about a extra case to protect the athena right?, the thread is about replacing the cover / housing of the athena itself, a step that becomes nesesary when you not use case like your nutshell .
anyhow (and to really come back to subject ) i have to replace my housing too and wonder, why nobody can simply post the web/email adress of a reseller here?. i searched alot now an only find companies in asia and prices 'far away from reality', so if someone know a good reseler please post here.
thanks mad

Dog chewed my phone!!

Hi,
My puppy decided he liked the look of my Kaiser and decided to have a chew on it, resulting in a cracked LCD screen, and teeth marks in the front cover and battery cover.
anyone have a suggestion where the best place for spare parts is??
I'm located in Australia.
thanks
Dazzler
Hi there ,
you may want to search the forum as many people had problems like yours (maybe not because of a dog though ). Try keywords like "spare parts kaiser".
Here is an example of an other post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333670
By doing this, I am sure you can find some good adresses (like here, here, here). You may want to simply try eBay as well.
CNN.CN
Duezeff is correct, I've had the best luck with cnn.cn in finding parts. At the time i was only interested in one LCD screen for a friend and saw that there was a discount for buying in bulk. Now I wish I had done so and set up my own little shop. Also, pay attention to what you're actually purchasing (which part of the touchscreen you are getting) and whether it is new or from a used phone.
Use Mike Channon's guides to disassemble and reassemble your phone and you should be set. it is very easy to do.

Is there an Ebay in Australia? Always a good source of parts.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
EBay came up trumps, and my new LCD screen, digitiser and Case are on the way from Hong Kong.

Replacing att tilt faceplate

hi, i have an att tilt , and i have dropped it, and for some reason it created a huuuge crack vertically down the black stripe on the side of the phone. i have searched the forum and the internet with no luck. so if someone could kindly post direction or point me to the right directions that would be grreeaat thxx!!
-judetju
Google or go on eBay and search for "HTC Kaiser TyTN II housing"
Face plate alone is around $30 USD and the whole housing could cost around $65 USD
Go here http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Kaiser
and you should hit the Wiki page for this phone. There are links to disassembling the Kaiser in PDF.
well thx anyway i found instructions on the forum after further searching, but i thank u a lot because you just indirectly introduced me to rom flashing, thanks so much

[Q] GPS hardware gone bad on HD2

Hi all,
My HD2 running HyperDroid v12 from Pongster is a dream phone. Everything is working excellent except recently I got the digitizer changed from a local shop here in LA and in the process of fixing the digitizer the idiot seems to have ruined my GPS related hardware (which obviously he is not owning up to). I tried all sorts of software remedies (including changing ROMS) but nothing seems to get a GPS lock.
My questions is -
Is there any way to buy and replace the GPS receiver in the phone?
Thanks
The guy might have accidentally removed the connection from the circuit board, I remember seeing threads from before of other's doing the same thing when fixing the digitizer.

They tell you what you need, and instead of the "flat plastic stick", a guitar pick should be fine.
- No need to remove speaker from housing.
- Ignore everything from 1:47, and look at 3:22 from the disassembly video, instead of removing the gps coaxial cable, check if it's actually connected properly, if not, just push it in.

I'll try and find those threads I remember reading, in which the OP and other members had the same problem after replacement of digitizer.

Hi Moon,
I followed the steps in the videos you provided and opened my HD2. The GPS coaxial cable seems to be fit in snug, which I guess is indicative that the GPS antenna itself may have gone bad somehow. Possible?
I did a little searching and found this link where I can buy an antenna from -
http://www.gsm4world.us/oem-htc-hd2-t8585-gps-antenna-board-flex-ribbon-cable-d-03752_579.html
That said, I am not too comfortable trying to replace it by myself. Any chance anybody knows a person/shop in the LA area who may have expertise in such jobs? The one I found in Glendale (CellularDR) is the reason this has happened so I'm not too keen on re-visiting them.
Thanks again for all the help!
Can't you get a separate external GPS receiver and bluetooth it?
It kinda beats the purpose of havnig a all in one device, plus you need to always watch 2 batteries and not just one . But, I must say it is the safe option and worth considering.

New back housing w/antennas
I had to replace the back housing on my phone as it broke (it looked like the plastic had deteriorated), and the new one comes with all 3 antenna attached, and a new battery cover for less than US 20.00. I have better reception now on all 3 radios, and the phone looks new again. If your have to take it apart anyway, why not replace the whole back? I got it from these people, eBay item 350487086071, but there are tons out there, and it was dead simple. Unscrewed the four screws, used the plastic piece to pop the snaps, and that was it.
YMMV, but for only 20, you can rule out the antennas if nothing else.

Otterbox or other "tought" case for HD2 for sale?

First of all, apologies for the location of this post but it appears that I'm unable to post anything in the on-site marketplace as I haven't had enough posts - I've tried to not bother people with trivial questions and it seems to have backfired as now I can't access a part of the forum that I need! Ah well! And, while I'm at it, sorry for the typo in the title, I only noticed after I'd posted and couldn't amend it to "tough".
I'm looking for a case for my HD2 to protect it from the inevitable knocks it's likely to receive on an upcoming, extended trip around Central America, and I'm struggling to find anything here in the UK. I'm not limiting myself to the otterbox brand but I've not seen anything from another manufacturer that would fit my phone. Any links to vendors would be appreciated if no one has a case for sale.
