Just like it says in the title above, is there a way to remove hard-spl with another SPL maybe stock SPL?
Herald 100
IPL 4.17.0002
SPL 4.70.Yang
Boots ok inside WM6
If I remember correctly, you should be able to flash the stock herald rom as is and it will overwrite the hard spl. I may not be 100% correct, but that's what I would look into first.
A quick search of the forum brought up this. Try and use the search before you post unnecessarily.

Okay, I admit to being mostly a newbie. I've tried doing some searches on the site for the two terms, even tried doing some 'net searches, looked in the XDA-Wiki...all to no avail.
Can someone explain what IPL and SPL mean? I, for example, have a Cingular 8125 G3 with an IPL/SPL of 2.25
I've noticed others with the same phone have an IPL/SPL of 2.26 and while I have installed 2.26 ROM images, my IPL/SPL has not changed.
Can someone explain?
I believe IPL is Initial Program Loader. Not sure about SPL (secondary program loader?). Basically these are similar to the BIOS of a PC (sort of). Gives the hardware the smarts to know what to do when its turned on.
As for your IPL/SPL not changing... First, is your phone a G3 or G4 (you have to know this or you may wind up with a brick). If you are G3, did you do a CID unlock (following the steps in the sticky by Dr. P or Faria)? Unless you CID unlock, you won't be able to do other roms.
why doesn't anyone read the wiki???

As I mentioned in my post, I DID; however, I could not find any reference when I searched for IPL or SPL beyond mention of specific IPL or SPL numbers in connection with various ROM updates. If you would like to provide a specific link to the Wiki that defines IPL/SPL, I would be happy to apologize for my lack of search skills.
To answer the other question; yes, my phone is CID unlocked. I tried loading the WizardLove 2.26 ROM (weird Italian program screens), but that didn't update the IPL/SPL to 2.26. I've also loaded the WM6 MB ROM image and that also didn't modify the IPL/SPL to 2.26.
Right now, I'm downloading Molski's 2.26 (10.2) ROM image to see if that updates the IPL/SPL since it is apparently based on the T-Mobile Ship ROM which included an IPL/SPL update.
I'll let you know if that changes anything.

thanks.
on second thought. it does state what it is...
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FAQ
IPL: Initial program load - usually paired with Secondary Program Load (SPL), is the boot loader of your phone, much like the BIOS is the boot loader for your PC. Note: IPL/SPL are highly hardware dependent, flashing the wrong IPL/SPL is much more serious than a flashing the wrong ROM. It may be noted that, sometimes a ROM package also contains the IPL/SPL which will be flashed into your phone. Hence be extra careful what you are flashing. Note: although a ROM may also contains the IPL/SPL, `ROM` usually refers just to the OS (eg. the Windows Mobile 5, not the IPL/SPL) and the ExtRom.
SPL: Refer to `IPL`

Weird, I did a full text search on both IPL and SPL and neither yielded the link to the FAQ that you provided. I'm not sure what Wiki software is being used, but the indexing may need to be adjusted to look w/in the wiki posts and not just at the header or description of the page.
Not that I'm a Wiki expert or anything.

Look in the stickies at [READ FIRST] The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards... This thread states exactly what you need to do to upgrade to the 2.26 versions of IPL and SPL
As stated above, to upgrade the IPL/SPL you must flash with a ROM that contains the IPL/SPL. Most of the cooked ROM's do not contain this so that is why your IPL/SPL was not updated.
I'd suggest flashing to the stock T-Mobile ROM that will give you a strong 2.26 IPL/SPL to work with. Then flash to the ROM of your choice.
Good luck buddy...hope this helps.

Yep, that's exactly what I did. It took me a bit to find the T-Mo 2.26 ROM, but the stickied thread mentioned had a nice link that worked, so I downloaded and used that.
So, upgrade successful. I'm now running IPL/SPL 2.26 with the WM6 MBE ROM image, and the 2.61 Radio ROM and so far, all is good.
Thanks for all the help.
I change the Radio, and now the computer don t recognize my htc, in the pda isn t status of batery, signal nothing, i want to flash another rom, but activesycn don t start
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.08
Blank
OS 1.5.4.2
Try flashing it back back with the original ROM. You can reset your pda and keep pressing the speech button on the side. Your HTC goes into rainbow mode and you can flash it with the original ROM.
thanks now its working again, just a question if i have ipl 1.01 spl 1.08, can i update WM6
You don't need activesync to flash the RADIO. Just get an RUU with nothing but the Radio and run it while in bootloader mode (3 colors)
Or read the Wiki...
EDIT:
beaten by a minute
And NO, you can't have WM6 with IPL/SPL 1.xx which is written in almost every thread of WM6 ROMs. You must have both at 2.xx or 3.xx
what its the simple mode to swith 2.xx or 3.xx, i am not an expert

nobody is an expert without reading and searching a lot and then read and read some more.
Check the wiki, make forum searches, help yourself before asking for help (it would avoid thread titles like the one you gave)
cheers
ok i hope no kill again my htc
This is not really kill, really kill is getting it bricked
Hi
I just got a dopod c800 AKA p4350.
Its got WM 5 on it. I wanted to upgrade the same to WM6.
Have read the threads but couldnt figure the english rom version and also need some help on upgrading.
can someone point me to the right rom and the instructions.
thanks
Whatever you do, if your SPL is currently 1.XX do NOT hardSPL or use USPL. Use the official RUU to attemp to flash your device. IF it changes your SPL and IPL to 4.xx then you can use HARDSPL and USPL.
Other than that, you can download the official WM6 from the thread that's stickied that talks about all the ROMs.
There are no instructions on uninstalling hard spl on xperia anyway. All the ROMs I've tried seem to have some sort of glitch.
How do I revert back to my original ROM?
no need to revert Hard SPL to stock SPL just to get a stock ROM:
you can flash any stock ROM with Hard-SPL too
but it you badly need the stock SPL back, just flash it
Check the sticky threads, stock SPL is on the Hard-SPL thread, and there's even a video tutorial !!!
Easy... download stock spl which is found in hard spl topic... obviously you skimmed the topic instead of reading it.
Then, click on hard spl exe, now drag the stock spl's .nbh file into the hard spl folder. This will ask you to replace the .nbh file. Click yes, now flash your SPL.
When it finishes flashing into stock spl, reset the phone. Done.
Thanks Guys. I figured it out. Not gonna be flashing for a while.
Hi all,
I really wanted to try out the latest Hero build. So I began the procedure, first by flashing the radio, then the SPL. The radio update went fine. I also installed the new SPL (no errors whatsoever), but when I checked to see whether I had the correct version, it displayed HSPL10.95.3000 (I had installed a HardSPL before). I reapplied Haykuro's SPL update, and still no change. How can I remove the HardSPL, and is it okay to continue the Hero install with my version? I don't want to brick my phone (obviously) and I'm quite a newbie.
You cannot "remove" the SPL. it can only be overwritten by the Haykuro SPL. I suggest re-downloading the Haykuro SPL and flashing it again. Do not flash a hero rom with the SPL that you currently have.
Thanks for the reply. I tried overwriting it again with Haykuro's SPL, but it didn't work. On this website, I found that
The second type of HardSPL is truly HARD...They bypass the vendor checks on ROMs, allowing you to load any ROM onto your device. This is a necessity if you want to run a cooked ROM. They disable overwrite of the current SPL. This is why I say they are truly HARD. So, even if your ROM comes with a new SPL, it won't overwrite your HardSPL.

So, is there a way to remove HardSPL? I've been looking for info on this for hours and found nothing.

Well if you remove HardSPL what SPL will you have for that like 5 minutes or so? Try flashing to Engineering SPL first and then flash Haykuro's Special SPL
