I have had this piece of software on my phone for ages and haven't the first clue what it does and how it works.
Anyone help?
it's usefull if you have multiple GPS programs (requiring the GPS COM Port)
The GPS router once setup ...manages the COM port and asigns virtual ports. Each program then can use a specific port. Think of your ISP... modem, router and multiple computers.

I have yet to see a reason for it either myself.... I've tried 4 programs at once on my GPS and they all worked fine. Perhaps some don't work well unless they have it dedicated or perhaps there's extra latency when sharing that some don't work with..
For me, I haven't had a problem. I use PathAway, GeoNiche (Palm program in StyleTap), Google Maps, Live, BeeLineGPS, etc..

I can't seem to connect my Bluetooth GPS reciever to my BA with WM5 on, I can pair the device, but thats about it. Tomtom 5 can't see it and I can't see any way of manually connecting it to the GPS device?
Any ideas ?
Have you looked at my piece in the WM5 Wiki?

Took a bit of finding but I followed instructions, installed Tomtom, paired the GPS, set the COM ports.
When I went into Tomtom setup the port (Com 7) was not in the list of available ports.
I have BT UART, COM2: Serial Cable on COM1: COM9: Ir on COM 3
but no COM 7, any ideas ??
This has been reported on a few PPCs here. I know somebody made a very small app that makes available the port you want to. You may try to search for that.
Does anyone know what this small app is called??
I synchronized my wizard previously only with my notebook using USB, this worked ok.
Now when I connect my Wizard via USB it synchronizes and alll, but WLAN on my host computer breaks totally! Even after disconnecting I can't get it running, it connects for a second, then disconnects. I have to reboot to get it usable again...
Any ideas? I am stuck here.
ps. One thing to note is that when connecting my wizard for the first time, it did not work out of the box. I had to search for RNDIS, drivers to be supplied with active sync I read.
USB Sync causes wlan disconnection on laptop
I read recently where they figured out that it was the wlan drivers on the laptop that was the culprit. By chance do you have an Intel 2200BG wlan card or chipset? If so, you need the 9.0.4.8 version drivers. Even the version 10 stack has the same problem as the older ver sion 9 drivers.
If you have version 10.X of the driver and intel pro software connection manager, uninstall them and go and download http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?&DwnldID=10112&ProductID=1784
and install it. It is the 9.0.4.8 wireless driver and accompanying Intel Connection Manager.
I hope this helps.
yeah, I got Intel 2200GB by chance but I also already got 9.0.4.8 :-( ****!
Maybe I'll have to deinstall it once again. I deacativated some windows stuff folling an advice from here, but it did not help either... (http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/faqs/activesync/tshoot-as4x.htm)
Hi!
Just a question to understand your problem... Why do you need a WLAN when your device is connected to Active Sync?
AS 4.x builds up an additional Network. If you do an ipconfig /all on your notebooks dos-prompt you'll see this. Your notebook now is your default gate for IP-traffic. Yur device now uses your computer as a sort of proxy for any kind of network connection.
If your WLAN wouldn't be 'disabled' your device now would have two default gates which be confusing it ;-) I suppose why the developers simply disabled any other networking stuff except AS. BTW if you have a look into your PPCs connection manager you'll notice that Wireless isn't disconnected at all, just the router connection is 'sleeping'. When you disconnect USB wireless immediately comes back to life...
Cheers

WLan problems...
Sorry it didn't work... I read that on http://www.pocketpcjunkies.com/ somewhere...
What version of ActiveSync do you have? 4.0 had some problems that 4.1 was SUPPOSED to fix.
mikrolinux
What he is saying is that whenever he connects his device to sync it, his LAPTOP wireless connection is killed, rendering him without internet for his laptop to become a proxy. Once this happens, it is difficult or aggravating to be able to activate or enable the wireless afterward.
@mikrolinux
Not WLAN on the wizard, WLAN on my *host*.
Here is what ipaqkiller quoted:
# If you are using 802.11b or 802.11g with WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) encryption on your PC, you may be able to sync your device with your PC however 802.11g connection may be disconnected. Other users have been able to reconnect after rebooting their PC without their device connected. A workaround would be to use WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and MAC address filtering in lieu of WPA. In some cases upgrading the 802.11g card driver resolves the problem. This is known to work with Intel's 2200BG driver and Intel PROSet/Wireless version 9.x or 10.x including 10.1.0.3.

I'll try the mac filtering thing...

... sorry, I didn't notice the 'slight' difference.
I'vo got an Ralink in my Notebook, so I can't follow.
Hope you can solve your prob!
Good luck!

the work around is to use HTC usb switch, use serial instead of RDNIS...
THANKS! although your answer was a bit minimalistic and I had to google a lot - only to find the required files USBSwitch_PPC.cab in this forum
well now it works, but I have to redo this after soft resets...
is this problem known, who is to blame for this, intel, microsoft, htc?

This fix worked for me. I was running 9.0.3.6 (I think) of the Intel 2200BG drivers. I noticed that connecting my T-Mobile MDA to my laptop's USB port not only killed my laptop's WLAN connection, it also killed my wife's connection on her laptop. So whatever was happening, it was taking out my router (a Netgear DG834G). I'd have thought a wireless client shouldn't be able to do this and that there should be a patch for my router, else this little feature could be used maliciously...
If you can remember the link to the article you read, ipaqkiller, I'd be interested to read it.
Many thanks for the post that solved a long standing problem for me.
aparrently many people still do search the cab, here it is again USB
some keywords: usb switch usbswitch active sync rndis usb serial
but after reading gnik65's post, I wonder who should fix this ... interesting ... feature
Finally thanks to this CAB I can use my phone properly and sync with it.
I use my laptop over a USB wireless adaptor and it always killed it. Could only get it to work again with a system restore.
If someone could amend the CAB to make Serial the default that would be the final solution as I could potentially still kill the connection after a soft reset
WOW! Thank you so much!!!!!!!! Activesync was playing HAVOC with my Intel 2915ABG on my Dell Latitude D810.
Cheers once again.
I also echo this statement
"If someone could amend the CAB to make Serial the default that would be the final solution as I could potentially still kill the connection after a soft reset"
this would be fantastic.
My O2 Xda Exec keeps forgetting the GPS hardware port, no matter how many times i set it... If i dont set it GPS fails to work in the likes of Tomtom. If i set it to Com 7 everything works fine, but it seems to return back to (none) in the GPS settings each time... does anyone have a solution to this?
try com 4..........

It tried it before, so I know com4 won't do for the hardware port since the GPS com port is already set on com 4 by default.
There will be an error message saying that you cannot choose the same port for both: GPS port and hardware port.
Nevertheless, I didn't know that selecting com7 could help having the GPS work better. I'll try that.
i never messed with gps ports, the default works well in google maps, tomtom7 and igo 8
If i dont set the hardware port to com 7 then tom tom etc dont work... they connect to a "gps device" (which i think is windows emulating a gps device of the correct type) but they cannot get a signal. If i have the port set correctly i usually pickup a signal within a few seconds... but it keeps forgetting that the port is set. Im guessing that its actually to reduce power consumption by disabling the GPS device when not in use.
Is there away to use the tilt as a gps receiver for my laptop?
Thanks
I believe the easiest way is to use GPS Gate
I am interested in this too. do you have any experience with gps gate? what application is the gps able to interface with on the laptop?
I tried gps gate but could'nt get it to work with microsoft sreets and trips.basicly any software uses gps should be able to use the tilts gps.just need a better way to foward it to the laptop.also don't like having to use active sync for gps gate to locate the phone on the laptop.
There's GPS2Blue, it's free but less simple to use.
GPS2Blue works very well. But, kilrah is correct that it can be a pita to setup. After some searching I did find a nice walkthrough on this site - basically, it's all about setting the com ports correctly and weather you want it to use BT or the usb cable for transferring data. I had some problems with BT initially so I used the cable connection. Which I personally think is better anyway because it will charge your phone at the same time. I'm using this solution in a CarPC. It is awesome.
Did you actually get GPS2Blue to work over BT? I can't. Setup suggests to create an incoming COM port in the BT settings, but on my WM6.1 ROM this option doesn't exist. If I jsut choose a random BT COM port in the program (tried all) all I get is IO Exception, waiting for BT to be enabled (it is obviously on).
Disregard, found solution. For some reason they removed the incoming port config option from WM6 on, but it's still possible to add one via the registry, and once this is done it works perfectly well.

Hi,
I'm trying to get GPS2Blue to work and managed to get a connection between my Kaiser and my desktop (with a dongle using the Toshiba Bluetooth stack) by creating an outgoing port on the Kaiser (start-settings-connections-bluetooth-com ports-new outgoing port-DESKTOP-next).
I am successfully paired with a Lenovo T61 using the internal bluetooth with a broadcom stack (Vista Bunsiness x64), but while the Desktop advertises 'Serial Port' and 'ActiveSync' as bluetooth services, the T61 stack only advertises 'ActiveSync' 'Wireless Stereo' and 'Headset'. As a result, I can't add an outgoing port to the laptop and GPS2Blue doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to tell the broadcom stack to tell the kaiser that it has SPP (Serial Port Profile) available for it? Using GPS2Blue over TCP/IP is not an option because the virtual com port driver currently doesn't support Vista x64.
This has been bugging me for a loooong time, I'd really appreciate any help with this. Thanks!
Lncdoc
OK, 2 things.
Firstly, GPS2Blue doesn't need an Outgoing port on the Kaiser, but an Incoming one. Then, you discover services on the phone, from the PC, and you'll have a serial port you should connect to. Not the other way around like you were saying. Now, WM6/6.1 don't let the user set an incoming port from the BT configuration page anymore, so a manual registry edit is necessary. Attached is a .reg file that will set an incoming port on COM6.
Apply this, soft reset. Then run GPS2Blue, set it to use COM6, discover services from the PC, connect to the serial port, and connect to whatever serial port the stack maps it on the PC with your GPS program.
Secondly (but now unrelated!), if from the phone you'd like to see a serial port on the PC, there are 2 solutions. Firstly look for an "add new seral port" option in your BT stack on the PC, some support multiple ones.
If there's none, you should open activesync connection page, disable serial connection. On the Phone the Arcivesync entry will now revert to serial port. To have AS again, reenable the COM port connection in AS.
Thanks a lot! That worked like a charm. After Vista with the Broadcom stack forced the use of COM9, I changed it manually to COM5 in the device manager (For reference of other people wanting to do this: Device Manager / Ports (COM & LPT) / Standard Serial over Bluetooth link (COMn) / Right Click / Properties / Port Settings / Advanced / COM Port Number), since some software (like MeHere) only supports up to COM8.
Now everything works like a charm on my laptop.
Note that this weirdly enough also works with an Outgoing port on the Kaiser if you have a stack (on your PC) which broadcasts the availability of an incoming serial port (in which case the Kaiser initiates the connection, not the PC, and the COM Port sends regardless of whether something is connected or not...). Not that I'm recommending this route to anyone, but I got this working on the Toshiba stack.
Anyway, thanks a lot again, it's finally working perfectly with OziExplorer, MeHere, Google Earth.... you name it.

Arrrrgggg! I am so close. The incoming BT port bit helped me to get connected but, although GPS2Blue is gettting a lock, and I appear to be connected to EarthBridge/PC, the GPS data doesn't appear to be transmitted to Earthbridge/PC. Google Earth keeps putting me off the coast of Africa instead of south Florida.
I'm about ready to go pickup a copy of Streets & Trips with GPS.
GPS2Blue 1.9
I allready got .reg file on my computer.
The only thing i don't understand is how to get the incomming port on my laptop....

Loaded the appropriate reg values...nothing. Still doesn't work. I can't see the port on the PC or Handheld under "Bluetooth Services".
Thanks kilrah
Your solutions works great for me and i have tested this with my i900 and two different notebooks running Windows 7 and Windows XP
Works in both notebooks
I was using Garmin Mobile PC Version 5
Thanks again for your great help
thx kilrah
'elpetah1984' you must import registry value to PDA windows not PC

That'd be great!
Did you get it to work with many apps? I remember one time I managed to get it set (don't know how, can't reproduce my semi-success) so I could share the ActiveSync port and in Windows I could open the COM port on PuTTY to see the NEMA output but only a couple apps recognized that there was a GPS there -- the main thing I wanted to work (inSSIDer) couldn't see any GPS.
I'd definately be interested if you came up with a reliable way to make it work.

I saw your post @ metageek forums, because I too am unable to make it work with either version of inSSIDer, although Netstumbler saw it nice and easy. Thing is: I have Vista, and Netstumbler doesn't like Vista like me
I'm gonna get a XP lappy tomorrow which battery only works for half an hour but hey, it's a start

Good luck, XP is out of the question for me because HP doesn't provide Bluetooth drivers back to before Vista. Maybe I can find a way to forward the COM port and a USB WiFi adapter through VirtualBox and use XP that way...though I've been unsuccessful with either of those so far.
Actually you can forward the USB device to Oracle's Virtualbox, I have my TP-Lnk USB WiFi forwarding into a linux virtual machine working perfectly in monitor mode with kismet and aircrack I don't think you can forward COM ports tho, but if you have an external USB bluetooth adapter you can also forward it into XP!! Will try that asap!
Thing is, I wanted to use the onboard wireless because it's way more sensitive than the external USB adapter, but it's not possible to forward it inside a virtualbox.
Ahhh computer issues.. always bugging me since 1993 XD

Bad news:
The USB forwarding of my wireless card works under Linux but FAILS under a XP VM!!! %$#*@#!"#
Good news:
Downloaded Franson GpsGate trial and now inSSIDer is working !!!!
