Ok, so first hello to everyone! First time posters but I've been trolling around for a little bit, trying to get research on different phones offered by HTC and how they operate on each network, etc. and how customizable they are. Basically, I've concluded that the Tilt(Kaiser) is the one for me, graphics driver issue or not.
My only concern is that ATT does not offer a warranty for it, so what happens if I drop it in water, etc. Not saying that this is going to happen, but I always like to cover my bases. Does HTC offer an extended warranty, or any kind of protection at all? I don't want to end up paying 300 bucks and after a year or so get screwed because it is not working or something. I'm not really made of money, I mean, I can afford the phone, but not really buying another one, especially because you can't really (as far as I know) get a new one at the same price you'd pay for one with a new 2 year contract.
Anyway, sorry for the side track, and also if this was already answered, I hadn't seen it in my searches.

I would recommend you to check out Square trade. I am a veteran phone seller ( not really a pro ) and I always recommend my buyers with square trade. Their price is reasonable and their service is pretty much hassle free.
Beside that , since there is no warranty anyway, get the refurbished phone. Refurbished phone is checked twice , so the chance of defected item is low. With 2 years contract you can gat a Tilt for 150 bucks, which is a great deal compare with 450-550.
When I spoke to ATT last week, they told me by early june ALL phones (minus iphone of course..) will be insurable including the tilt...but the tilt and similar phones will have a higher deductable ($125ish if i remember right)

This is my first post here, but the site is great and I've been coming back here for about 2 weeks while trying to decide if I should buy a diamond and I have to say the people, reviews and discussions have certainly swayed my choice into getting one. It was touch and go (pardon the pun) for a while after some initial bad reviews, but since the ROM update it seems everybody is a lot happier! I know it will take a bit of tweaking, but I'm a S/W engineer, so its nothing I'm afraid of, but it will be my first WM device, so I'm a little scared...
I nearly opted for the iPhone, but its a brick, if not a pretty cool device, but I want something that I can put in my pocket and use as a normal phone... I have an iPod for music and videos, a phone is a phone (but the GPS rocks)
Anyway, I digress, I do have only 2 questions and the first one is pretty redundant from reading this forum, but here goes:
I saw a Touch Diamond for sale on eBay and the guy selling it said that he was selling it because he was disappointed because when he came to use the GPS it was a lie and that he needed an extra component and had to carry something else around? Whats all this about. I did freak a little when I read in all the spec sheets that it was GPS "READY"... what does READY mean? I assume it comes with it all from reading the reviews.
Second question, since my mind is pretty made up and I will be getting one, where is the best place to buy one (for the UK, and UK spec) I'm not looking for cheapness, as i know they are knew and average is around £450ish (inc VAT and Delivery) but dunno where to get one from (Not eBay anyway) any advice on the best online shop, or if anybody knows of any shops that sell them (in Manchester) that would be great.

Plenty of places in the UK to buy them from, if you had done a search you would have found a thread that listed all the places in UK that are selling them and they are uk spec.

those are your best bets...think Expansys is based in Manchester but dont know if they allow you to go there and pick up the phone...best to ring them i suppose.
I would recommend Play.com. Never had any problems with them and at the moment it's only £399.99 with free delivery. Others sell it for about £435 or £440.
Yeah, sorry, should have done a search, but battery was dying on the laptop and no plug in sight!

Thats really cheap for Play, I may used them since I have an account with them...somewhere!
Now I will have the agonising wait and ensuing dissapointment that when I wake up the postman hasn't brought it its going to be a LONG week!

The general consensus is that this is only if you're a business customer buying an additional handset for your account.
Surely if most places are selling it for £400+ Vodafone won't be giving them away with no contract?!
I saw the eBay one with the guy saying no GPS too - and got a bit worried about my pre order one. I actually emailed him and asked about it. He replied saying it was GPS Ready, but needed additional hardware. After a bit of research I emailed him back again saying I was sure it definately had it built in - within another day the auction had closed early!
Whether he'd done a quick sale, or realised his error - who knows?!
Play is the best price - unless you can get a bargain on eBay. Watch out for 'Next Day' sellers whos small print says a week+ unless you pay extra postage!
WARNING!!! if you buy from play.com in the UK, you'll have to pay VAT tax as the unit will probably be held up in customs.. reason being, Play.com ships from a tax free zone.
It's clearly stated in their terms & conditions that the customer is responsible for taxes. Read the fine print!!

If you are in the US, then the best place to buy the phone is from Ryan at Negri Electronics. I had a problem with the first two phones (the first was a power issue, the second was wifi). I emailed them in the morning, and by the afternoon I had a UPS overnight tracking order. They included return labels, and it was no questions asked. I have bought all my luxry phones starting back at the Nokia 8800 and up til now (yes I have a addiction for cell phones). NEVER HAD A SINGLE ISSUE! The Diamond also registered on the HTC site. The phone is shrink wrapped in the retail package (he has a network, and actually travels to get the product on or before release that are not grey's). Price my be higher or lower but not by much. I trully think its worth it, because you don't have to wonder about what your are getting or when. They ship the next business day (I gotta give them credit on their speed and customer service. The answer emails right away, and phone calls are 99% answered, and messages are returned immediately.

Tmobile will be doing them from end of the month from what i have heard..as for voda, orange and o2 they will be carrying it but dont really know when...possibly July??.
As for branding??..yep you can be 110% sure that they will be all branded to some extent. As usual Tmobile will make sure its locked to their network and probably Orange. Voda and o2 will probably sell it unlocked but with their branding on it.

I bought mine from Devicewire - and when I registered it with HTC - it only says I have a one year warranty. I thought UK devices were supposed to have 2 years?

Not true, I'm on my 5th tmo warranty replacement, bought my phone in march.... if this breaks I get the option to swap to any other color or an MT3G.... being a RadioShack employee we become a T-mo retailer in 20 days... ima play with for a couple weeks and maybe sometime before my warranty is up this one will somehow wind up defective...
And that applies to ANY new phone including new phones sent as warranty replacements, eg my current g1 was a new replacement so even though my orig purchase was march this one carries a one year warranty from the date I first put my sim in it.... 3 days ago

TRUE ...they jus send u a replacement & charge u $10 for shipping & u send ur old phone back in the box they sent ur new 1 in
BUT the new phone they will send u will be REFURBISHED!!! NO IF &S OR BUTS
Again not true the warranty replacement bin so to speak has a mix of new and refurb g1's its luck of the draw what you get... call tmo and ask when your warranty expires, if its a year from the date of you got your last new phone, then you got a refurb, if it's not then you got a new one, eg my phone has a one year warranty from one year from tthe day I popped my sim in it, not a year from the day I bought my 1st g1 in march
Tmo will send you a replacement, as others have said. If you call HTC, they too will cover it, however you have to send it to them and they will repair the problem(s) and send back your unit.
This is also the only way someone like me can get a G1 fixed, as I bought mine secondhand from CG.
I have ACTUALLY gone through this process with t-mo. I also now work for them. If you call them and you within the 1 yr waranty you get one sent though a third-party company which also handles insurance replacements. You can ask for a different collor, but it is pointless considering the device you recieve won't come with a batter, battery cover, or cables. As far as refurbs go it depends on what is in stock at the closest warehouse of said third-party. If there are new ones in stock that's what you get. You nor t-mo can ask for new versus refubished as already stated it's the luck of the draw.
The majority of what these loons say isn't true. Also, for future assurance of not paying out the ass for a new phone just pay the measley $4 a month incase it happens again next year.
P.S. ESKIMO if you are hoping your device might suddenly become "defective" what I have done is re-flash the old dreaming.nbh and the flash haykuro's broken SPL. Instantly causing your phone to brick (forever). Give t-mo a call and you'll have a new phone in a weeks time .

cool, I *work* for t-mobile in the PDA dep (so I support G1 yay) and didn't even know this. Though I had suspected it, as I'd noticed the discrepancy in that some warranty replacements would show 1yr instead of 90days or existing as we always advise customers.

whoa several things wrong there. First, $4 isn't the cost for insurance, it's $5.99 if you get the extended warranty (which I certainly would if you're going to have it at all) and $4.79 if you only get insurance.
Also, if you are within the 1 year warranty, T-Mobile will replace your device, but we certainly don't refer you to anyone else to do it, and you can CERTAINLY NOT request a color change. There's no way for us to do it! If you have insurance, and the phone is physically damaged, is the only time we refer you to a Assurion. You claim to work for T-Mobile but you definitely don't seem to work in PDA or any other support department that actually does exchanges.

On this, this is incorrect. The insurance covers anything not covered under warranty. You can throw it against the wall, break the screen, cook it in the microwave, etc, and they'd still send you out a new phone for the deductible cost. You could theoretically even say you lost the phone, pay $130 for a replacement, and then sell the original on eBay for a profit! Though the prevent this type of thing by banning you from insurance if you have more than 2 insurance claims in 1 year (Assurion will do this, not T-Mobile)

Wow, after reading further in this thread..... you guys have a real confusion on how warranty, insurance, and multiple exchanges work! I'd say - call t-mobile and ask to speak to a rep and see what actually happens.
The basics:
1: You bought the phone from eBay or got it from "some guy": Call HTC and see what they can do. T-Mobile can't help you.
2: You bought the phone from TMobile: T-Mobile handles warranty, Assurion handles loss/theft/accidental damage. You can't change color or devices.
3: You've had multiple exchanges of the same device (more than 3 in 90 days): You can change the device, but you can't pick what device replaces it (we tell you) and you can't pick the color. You won't get a MyTouch for a G1 (lol, I wish). You'll likely get a Dash or Blackberry, but that is determined by the warranty system, and you can only take what it offers or your same device back.
4: You bought the phone from TMobile, you've had multiple problems, you hate the phone, etc and you DON'T like what the system offers you on step 3. Talk to Loyalty and they'll give you a cheap upgrade. Probably not to a MyTouch as that is kinda the same phone, and we know what you're doing.
5. You have a G1 and want a free MyTouch. Not gonna happen. Nope.
I imported a Sony Xperia Z3c from the UK to the States and am thinking about getting an outside warranty program incase something happens.
I don't think I'm going to want to ship it across the world incase something happens. I have heard that many of the insurance companies in the states won't cover an imported phones so I was hoping someone had any experience with this before.
I've been looking around and there are a ton of options it seems like. Anyone have an suggestions or good experience with preferably the best bang for the buck.
I do tend to break my electronics and considering I just spent 500 bucks outright would love to keep this for a while.
I'd be interested in this as well. Particularly from a company that doesn't care if the bootloader is unlocked or not.

I'm buying a policy from Worth Ave Group. They don't deal in repairs/replacements; they simply send you a check for the value of your policy minus the $50 deductible. The only thing they don't cover is if you just lose the phone somewhere.

No, you don't have to specify the cost of the phone. You just choose how much you want your policy to cover. I chose $599, so I can get new chargers/case/ect. in the event I smash my phone and want to replace it with something different.
I haven't had personal experience with them, but I've read a lot of reviews. It seems like most of the complaints people have are:
- Trying to file a claim for a stolen phone and getting rejected because they don't have enough evidence of theft. (making it simply lost, rather than stolen)
- The claim check taking 2 - 3 weeks to arrive.
Neither of those poses a problem for me.
Awesome that sounds great actually. Much better then getting a refurb especially if the Z3c doesn't come to the states.

Yeah, me too. I was considering Protect your Bubble and SquareTrade, but I like the freedom of simply getting a check in the mail rather than dealing with repairs or refurbs.

Just checked them out, looks ok but they don't specify anything about software issues or if the phone has had its bootloader unlocked.

No they don't. But how will they know? I'd be surprised if they have access to Sony's diagnostic programs, and I don't think they really care. If you file a claim for a phone with broken glass, I don't think they'll even try to find out if the bootloader is unlocked or not.

Hopefully not for something not software related, but they could get to the Fastboot screen and like on all other Android devices it will show its unlocked. I just hate to see them deny an insurance claim as their policy is not clear regarding unlocking or what software is on the phone. I personally think if you brick your phone because you were flashing stuff then warranties should be denied(except for physical defects, cracked screens, etc.) but if there is a software issue you are unlocked and currently running the stock software then all warranties should be honored.

It sounds good, too good, so I read their policy booklet.
Two things: they don't cover accessories, and they will not pay more than the phone is worth at the time of loss.
Also, they have 3 options for payout at their discretion: (1) full cost of repair, (2) replacement cost of a refurbished item, and (3) replacement cost of a new item.
The kicker is that it's at their discretion so it's totally up them to decide which option to exercise and I'm certain they will choose the least expensive.
As an example, let's say the screen cracks and it costs $200 to repair - they are going to pay out $200 for the repair less $50 deductible and send a check for $150. But you've already paid $65 for the premium, so the net payout is really $85.

Sounds like you're looking at their iPhone policy. If you purchase a generic cell phone policy, you choose the amount covered.

I was looking at the cell phone policy, the same policy booklet applies to both iPhone and generic cell phone policies:
Policy Booklet - Insurance Policy with Accidental Damage
It's correct that you choose the coverage amount for generic cell phones but irregardless of what amount you select they won't pay more than the replacement cost value -- page 3:
Insurable Interest: We do not cover more than your insurable interest in any property. Therefore, the limit of insurance must represent the replacement cost value of the property you are insuring.

I'm pretty sure you can file claims with renter's/homeowner's insurance for phones (and other electronics)

Looking for some guidance - I am a private seller and do not run a shop. I sell my own things which are perfect working order and a buy as seen / no returns policy is indicated.
Anyway, I sold a Sony camera 4 weeks ago (in the UK) and the buyer took the camera on holiday (abroad) for a week and has returned saying there is a dead pixel and asked ebay to return it. Even though I said no returns, and proved there was nothing wrong with the camera before selling (enclosed a photo taken prior to sale), ebay have honoured the return!!! It has now been posted back and ebay have left it to me to get the camera inspected.
Come back for me - apparently none!
All I deduce is that the buyer changed her mind or damaged the camera in some way and decided to return it.
Where is my legal footing on this???
Ebay are crooks. They said if the camera comes back as no problem they will put a red mark on her account - in the meantime I'm out of pocket over £400 (which has since been spent). The hold is placed on the paypal account in the meantime.
I am thinking I'll try doing a visa chargeback or take ebay to small claims. Views?

eBay is a buyer friendly market, there's really nothing you can do.
Are you 100% sure there isn't a dead pixel?
There was no dead Pixel as I had it checked by a local camera shop. The sensor was filthy and so was the body and the camera was returned damaged. Ebay have since agreed to cover the refund cost and I won't be out of pocket.
Interestingly they provide 30 days refund for buyers even if you as a private seller say "no return".

If you are based in the UK too, and you know for a fact it was working perfectly fine, plus you had it stated as no returns.
If you have evidence of that, and Ebay basically tells you pay up or else, you can take it to a small claims court, because the buyer bought it on the basis of a no returns policy.
I would double check exactly whats in the Ebay ToS is though.

I think the no returns only applies to auctions. If you sell it as a buy it now item you have to accept returns no matter what?
This is for Ebay, or use PayPal next time to help in the making a safe transaction....and or dispute.

Anyway, I sold a Sony camera 4 weeks ago (in the UK) and the buyer took the camera on holiday (abroad) for a week and has returned saying there is a dead pixel and asked ebay to return it. Even though I said no returns, and proved there was nothing wrong with the camera before selling (enclosed a photo taken prior to sale), ebay have honoured the return!!! It has now been posted back and ebay have left it to me to get the camera inspected.
Come back for me - apparently none!
All I deduce is that the buyer changed her mind or damaged the camera in some way and decided to return it.
Where is my legal footing on this???
Ebay are crooks. They said if the camera comes back as no problem they will put a red mark on her account - in the meantime I'm out of pocket over £400 (which has since been spent). The hold is placed on the paypal account in the meantime.
I am thinking I'll try doing a visa chargeback or take ebay to small claims. Views?
