Card reader on Diamond - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Has anyone tried to connect a (SD) cardreader directly to the USB port of the Diamond ? Is this supposed to work in order to make backups for instance when there is no PC available ?
Another thing I noticed: when you click on Settings -> About it says: "Expansion slot: not in use " !
Is the expansion slot hidden somewhere ? ;-)

Nobody has to try because you're not working with xp or vista. Already think about the os size between a pda system and a computer? A windows based computer has the most fortcoming drivers included in the os. So you need drivers, a mini usb adapter and the usb connector needs the possibillity to communicate with the cardreader.
And the expansion slot, think about the universal os wm 6.1

Hi, for HTC Athena there is an adaper for USB2.0
I connected a 4GB USB-Stick and it is shown in Fileexplorer (like SD-Card) on device.
It is possible with WM6!
Hopefully there will be a such an adapter for Diamond too.

Theres no USB-Host function, so can't be done.

Rorydarekign: Could you confirm the source of such information.
I really hope to have USB host with Diamond and I think there's chance that it does have it. Hold Vol Down and Back while softreset shows "Trigger USB host". I am not sure what it means but just want to let you guys know such undocumented feature.

It doesn't come with USB host support, so no hope for external HDD or card readers.

The chipset does support USB host, however the feature is not activated in the Diamond. Could someone give it a try, all you need is the normal Mini-USB cable with a gender adaptor to connect it to USB Stick. Try the undocumented feature described above.

I won't believe that post as an official one. Until someone tries it out I'll hope. It could solve iGO8 problem as well.

Can XP USB drivers be adjusted for a Pocket PC???

Hi
I wanted to find out if it is possible to adjust the drivers or to just create drivers of an external device to work on a pocket PC ?
Since the communications port on a Wizard is already a mini USB can a regular xp driver be adjusted so that when you plug for example an external HDD and obviously use the appropriate mini usb to mini usb cable into a Pocket pc that it would detect and install onto the device so that you can use it in the similar manner that you would on a regular XP based system ??
reo
there is no USB host drivers, nor is the mini-B port capable of putting out 5volts.. not possible to do what you are asking of the mini-b
Hi
considering that the power issue is not a problem and that the devic has external battery power, would it be possible then ?
OR
Do you think that there is a way to adpat the device to work as a SDIO, so basically convert from USB to SDIO ?
reo
I am not an expert, but I have read somewhere that there are two kinds of USB chip sets - one that is slave-only, and another that can act as master (also called "host mode"). Devices, such as phones, hard drives, flash drives etc., have the "slave mode" chip, and hence cannot be used to act as a host, which is what you want to do.
I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong!
i researched a bit on USB and SDIO, and it seems that SDIO would be a way to add an external device...
Now would it be possible to create an SDIO device with a host USBB controller in it ? or do i have this all mixed up ?
reo
Yes, that is possible, in theory. However, the SDIO spec does not support Mini-SD afaik; or, even if it does, I have not seen any device maker that makes a mini-SD device (other than the usual flash card). So, I think you are out of luck on that as well.

USB memory... how to recognize?

Hi guys,
When I connect a card reader/USB flash memory to the USB-port on the connected 4-in-1 cable, how to access these memories?
I also have an external hard disk, which has its own power supply (so no "too less power" issue), but the Athena doesn't do anything with it.
Do these attached memories need to appear as Storage drives in the file explorer?
Thanks.
I received my 4in1 cable yesterday and I found that it recognize hard drive randomly. I mean that not all USB memory are accepted by system. First of all it accepts only low voltage ones and not all are recognized. About mouse host...it recognize mouse but it's unable to show pointer, even with some drivers found on the this forum that should enable it...
So I would like to know what kind of commercial policy is this??? HTC says that with this cable and device you can host HD, mouse...but it's all pretentious, because to use it properly it's really hard!!!
I'm quite disappointed!
Again: when an USB storage device is connected, assuming it's a low voltage device, WHERE to access the memory??
It's an old thread, but what the hell. Plug your USB memory into your 4 in 1 cable. Use file explorer, go to "My Device" where you will see MicroDrive listed. Further down you will see "Hard Disk". That's it.
Thank you, this solves my problem.

mouse pointer works fine with me. Are you using wm6?
I don't think it's just a voltage issue with USB host on the x7500 - I just don't think it can cope with reading from large storage devices. Mine reads 1 gb and 2gb sticks fine. It also reads my 4gb and 8gb sticks but I experience drop-outs and slowdowns with the higher capacity sticks.
I should imagine that a 200gb HDD would send the x7500 loopy. Besides which I don't see the point in having a pocket pc with a mains connected hard drive wired to it. Might as well use a laptop as that would be more portable.

USB-in and -out cable for LEO

Hello, good day I wish to all. I am looking for a cable for LEO, with which I could plug an USB device (USB key, HDD,...) into my device, as I was used to it from my former Pocket Loox 560, which included this kind of a Y-cable as standard. It is pretty helpfull not to turn computer on/off all the time, or not need to take off the back cover for memory card removal. Any help, pls? Or any other idea how to plug USB device into LEO? Thanks in advace.
I'm not certain wether or not the Leo has USB-host functionality. HTC phones usually don't, and without this it's not possible to connect USB-sticks, HDD or other stuff.
You need this cable: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Micro-USB-Host-Cable-for-Nokia-N810-OTG-on-the-go-N-810_W0QQitemZ250554211326QQcmdZViewItemQQptZPDA_Accessories?hash=item3a5631dbfe
As above though, not sure it will work as apparently the proper drivers aren't on the device.
This rom developer is working to include them in his room soon, see here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=576165

HOST USB or USB HDMI Video Card ? Any way to use usb port to use usb devices ?

Usb port is it locked or there is possibility to use it like usb host ?
To manage copy pictures of a camera to phone without pc by usb adaptator.
Samsung talked about usb 2 hdmi cable and think if its real it use some usb video card supported by phone(because of physic material imcompatibily of hdmi nd usb)
May there is a way to dev a tool or hack to get it works...
Aah!! Finally somebody like minded!!
I had been scouring forums for something like this. USB OTG would be an excellent add on to this phone. If not OTG, at least host would be an excellent idea.
No idea whether the existing USB Host driver for Nexus one would work on this one.
The processor on SGS already supports USB Host (not sure about OTG though). This has been pointed out in their press release - w w w .samsung.com/global/business/semiconductor/newsView.do?news_id=1043
I am just wondering - should we request Samsung themselves via mass petition to open up this feature on SGS?
some USB devices might be compatible, like the 100/1000 Mbps USB to RJ45 plugs
those same ones works in Windows Mobile it should work as well for Android, however a driver will be required.
mouse and keyboard support should work out of the box
external USB keys for storage, or even USB mass storage devices should work out of the box as well.
usb audio... hmm... not sure what else at the moment
Hi AllGamer
Thanks for the reply. So how exactly do we get this going on SGS?
I am much more interested in having USB HDD support on SGS (hopefully without an ext power source - am I asking for too much? ).
Are you suggesting that the N1 fix should work here also? Can somebody help us with a "How To" to enable this on SGS?
Cheers!!
Coooolboyz
you can plug in any USB mass storage devices (USB hard drives) and it should work.
However, you might not get enough power from the usb port, you'll still need need power cord for your external usb hard drive.
I know on my HTC windows phones works like that, it should be the same for Android.
I'll try that when i get a chance.
you just a need a USB female to a mini USB male cable
yep!! you are right about power!!! I am trying to get a cable - hopefully in couple of weeks should have this.
but I am wondering if all this would work without proper drivers in it. Would SGS have USB HDD drivers in it already?

I can see one problem, You will only be able to use Fat32 drives unless someone compiles NTFS / HFS+ into the kernel. Ext3/4 is already done so I don't see many problems. What I recommend you do is get some sort of adaptor for Female USB > Micro USB and test it out with a flash stick or you can hack one .
Yeah - I understand the difficulties of having NTFS support outside the MS world.
I didnt know that ext3/4 were already a part of the kernel!! Is this by default available in all Android kernels?
For USB Host cable - I am guessing that this one can be used - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250671106072 (same as what Sven used for N1 USB Host capabilities).
But I seriously doubt plug and play would work (that would be too much of an expectation! )
Does any body have that cable here, who can check out if SGS does actually work in USB Host/OTG mode?
Sven has try with a Galaxy another Host Driver
h t t p : / / sven.killig.de/android/Galaxy/
Hm what can we do with these files?
However, any news about this?
Maybe, we could ask some Galaxy S kernel developers about this.

Can it be done ?

In my opinion everything is possible with the right "CODE" and that is attached to a human memory with very smart neurons!
From what I saw there I'm assuming that the memory hard drive or card GB is internal to the board ? I want to replace the 32GB with a 64 GB card or whatever these HP tablets have . I don't want to get into un-soldering and soldering though .... Thanks

Everything is integrated. If you want to expand storage you can use an OTG Micro USB HUB an attached a USB 64GB flash drive, it will be bulky but works!

That would work ? that would be great if it can . I would like to place movies onto the usb flash drive and play off it, So you saying it can work ? Thanks
Of course it works, you can play movies directly from the USB flash drive. You will need to supply power to the USB drive, connected by wire or using a Power Bank.

Is a Micro USB Port, is the same as your charger. The one that you connect to your Tablet. Search and do some reading on how it works, is very simple but you have to understand how all comes together, there is information on this site also.
Once you have Android install on your tablet, it works the same as others Android or Tablet Devices.
I finally got a OTG Micro USB straight cable, usb on one end and micro on the other, try it out and nothing happens, is there a setting with the tablet that needs to be turn on or off ? thanks
What version of Android are you using? or the type or ROM?

Its ......Kitkat .... Android 5.1.1 version and cm-11-20161219-NIGHTLY-MLQ-tenderloin .... This is very stable ... Thanks
The ROM that you are using is from the Developer Milaq.
I installed the latest Nightly dated December 26 of 2016, of the ROM you are using.
https://milaq.net/downloads/tenderloin/cm-11.0/
After a fresh installed I connected the OTG Micro USB HUB, then connected the HP Touchpad cord charger to the OTG and finally the USB flash drive ( SanDisk Cruzer Glide 16GB). You will noticed that the USB flash indication light starts flashing and a notification on the Left top side on Android tells you ( USB Storage in USE ). Then you go to the File Manager and you will see USB Storage, when you touch it you will see all the files on the USB flash drive and you can play your movies directly from there at the same speed as if were on the internal storage. When you are done, go to setting and storage and eject the USB Flash drive. Is very simple!

I don't see nothing since nothing happens once I connect it, though if I use the cable to connect to my computer I am able to see the tablet internal drive, but not to a flash drive from tablet to flash . This is why I was asking what's exact cable type for this tablet port . I'm thinking it isn't the correct one . There so many different sizes out there. Thanks for your suggestion, much appreciated
I sent you the link to Amazon of the OTG.
Did you take the time to learn what OTG is?

Yes, I did view it but the type that goes into the tablet isn't listed . I bought one already that I assume is the correct size but with these micro usb connectors there is many different types, do you understand what I'm trying to say . Pic below is what I'm using

And for the second time this is the OTG cable that I have, which I posted the link : https://www.amazon.com/Adaptor-Powered-Charging-Charger-Connector/dp/B00LTHBCNM/ref=sr_1_31?ie=UTF8&qid=1486568545&sr=8-31&keywords=micro+usb+otg If you look at the specification of how it works it tells you is a "Micro Usb HUB Adaptor with Power Powered"
The HP touchpad or old devices do not offer power to the micro usb port, you need a Y adapter one to supply power to the USB flash drive and the other one for data.
That is why I said, do some research to understand the connection, which it clearly shows on the Amazon product.
Oh ok now I got you it also needs power to make it work, the tablet alone isn't good enough . See, I was hoping just a simple connector going into the tablet Micro and have on the other end usb female connector were by I could plug in a flash stick without power needed . Thanks for all your help

That will work with devices that allow power out from the charging port. The work around for old devices is the Y connector, with the connector I posted you can use a USB Keyboard, a USB mouse and a USB flash drive all at once, turning a tablet into a regular desktop PC. Like I posted your ROM will work and you can play movies directly from the USB drive with no loss in performance, with only your basic ROM nothing else is need it.
You are very welcome and have fun!
