Hi,
I just got a UK Touch Diamond, and using in US with AT&T. Apparently 3G is not working, and I'm pretty much stuck with GPRS or EDGE. I was wondering if it would be possible to add 3G (US) support by installing a US radio ROM. Or will I need to replace the phone with a US version?
Thanks
Right for the last time!!!!, the uk/asian spec of the Diamond will not support 3G in the USA because it IS MISSING the attenna for that band and no updated rom etc will ever fix that problem. Its a hardware problem rather than a software problem
If you want 3G in the US then wait for the American version of the Diamond....should be out by July sometime and will support 3G in US.

Any one else here using the HTC Diamond on Rogers network here in Canada?
I just purchased my Diamond a few days ago to replace my HTC 3600P. My 3600P connected to Rogers 3G network perfectly fine and I was able to get broadband speeds.
Now, with the Diamond I can only get GPRS (G icon on the phone) and Edge (E icon on the phone).
I am not sure if this had anything to do with it, but unlike the 3600P, when first setting up the Diamond it ask if I wanted the phone to auto detect the network and auto configure the phone. I selected yes.
In the phone settings under network tab, the network selection is set to Automatic. Under the Band tab, both select your network type and select your GSM/UMTS band is set to auto.
is my phone setup correctly, or is it that the Diamond doesn't work with Rogers 3G network only GPRS/EDGE? If this is the case now, could a ROM update fix this?
I really need broadband speeds on my work and am seriously considering returning the phone, as I specially asked the store I purchased it from here in Toronto if it would work on Rogers 3G network like my HTC 3600P and they said yes.
Current Diamond models (EU and Asia) do NOT support North American 3G bands. There was some talk from Rogers that the 900MHz band would be support but for now GPRS is as fast as you will get with your Diamond.
Just to add confirmation to what NikoL has said.
No 3G with the Diamond on Rogers.
Thanks for the feedback! Much appreciated!
My question now is will my ASIAN/UK diamond ever work on Roger's 3G network? If yes, any idea how long this will take?
I really need broadband speed on my mobile phone for work. I still have my HTC 3600P which works fine on the Rogers 3G.
I am trying to justify keeping the phone or returning it.
Worth holding on to?

To be honest buddy, it all depends on Rogers if they support that band that your missing. If they arent going to enable it on their network then you will never get 3G on the Diamond that you have now. So its a 50-50 chance they may or may not...probably better off asking them if you ring them. Im sure they will tell you if they have any intentions of enabling that band on their network.
Now if it was me, id return it and wait for the North American version which should be released next month hopefully. But this is me personally...im in the UK and i couldnt live without 3G myself...blazing fast on my nokia n95 8gb which i sold and at the moment im having to make do with GPRS because my nokia 8600 luna only does GPRS.

What are you doing that requires 3g?
Edge and GPRS don't imped stuff like email sync, syncml, or minor web browsing.
If you need to use remote access like RPD or UVNC then sell the phone. Roger's isn't about to turn on 900mhz as that requires changing the match on existing infrastructure. It makes far more sense for them to push toward LTE tech rather then waste it on whats going out.

I work in the streaming media industry, hence I definately require broadband on my mobile phone/device.
For now, I guess I will keep using my HTC P3600 which works perfectly fine on Rogers 3G and hope that the north amercian version of the Diamond will support Rogers 3G or on the tail end, that a ROM update for the Asian verision will 'turn on' the required freq to support Roger's 3G.

I would imagine the N American version of the Diamond would support 3G in Canada...as for a rom update to enable the asian version that you have now to use 3G??..i doubt it very much as its a hardware issue. The diamond you have is missing that 3G attenna.

You are correct about the ROM update. I called HTC Canada and confirmed this with their support department. I guess, I'll be putting my Diamond up for sale on ebay (as my local dealer refuses to take back the phone - last time I'll ever purchase from them, as I specifically asked about it working on Rogerrs prior to purchase) and wait for the North Amercian verision.. or see how the new 3G iphone stands up when it is released here on July 11th.
Hi all,
I'm new to MDAs and to these forums so bear with me. I looked around quite a bit and have been unable to resolve my issue. I obtained an HTC Touch Diamond (a T-mobile Compact IV) in the UK and am trying to get it working in the US. While in the UK there were no connection issues but as soon as I got to the US the connection is unstable. I have managed to make about 10 calls in the US but they cut out after a short time and most of the time I cannot make a call or cannot connect to a network at all. It can always see Tmobile and AT&T but can rarely connect, and when connected can rarely call. I have flashed the TLR 3.08.07.16 WWE ROM and updated the radio ROM to 1.09.25.23
Any help would be greatly appreciated
from my basic knowledge of radio, uk networks use gsm while most us networks use cdma that mite be your problem!!
try going to start>settings>phone (in the personal tab)> scroll to the band tab and change ur network from auto to wcdma!! you may also have to change the band setting your using, but u may have to check with your network on what frequency they use
Thanks for the suggestion. Thus far I have only been able to connect on GSM, CDMA has never worked. I also have been using the 850 1900 band which I heard is the one used in the US. I have connected occasionally but am still having trouble.
I have an unbranded rhodium running on T-mobile US. I have had it for about 3 months and I can never get the 3g to work. Is there a radio or something I can change? I am currently running the leaked tmobile rom. Also my fn key on the hardware keyboard doesnt work on this rom.It worked on the energy rom but not this one. I've tried searching and cant get any info on it. Does any one have any ideas to these to problems???
I love this rom but wish i had 3g, i know I'm in a 3g area because my husbands behold 2 has 3g here.

Only the T-MobileUSA-branded TP2 will work on T-Mo USA 3G. T-Mo USA uses different 3G bands than anyone else. It's a hardware thing and can't be changed.
Hi guys, just a quick question for you Motorola Milestone users that use Vodafone's network in New Zealand.
First off, I know that Vodafone NZ does not support Milestone. Only Telecom XT supports it. However, Vodafone does support and sell Milestone 2, so I don't see why this couldn't be possible.
Anyway, I'm currently using Android v2.1 (Eclair). I flashed the New Zealand v2.1 SBF on it, and it works fine and all except it's obviously for Telecom XT, therefore I can't get my Vodafone SIM card to work properly. If I change the network from 2G to 3G, then it works. I don't get full signal bars (4 bars), but I get 3 bars most of the time which is pretty stable so it's not bad. However, if I switch to 2G (to save battery) then I get no bars at all, completely empty. It doesn't seem to be able to detect any network at all when I switch to 2G. Whereas switching to 3G the phone is able to detect all 3 networks in New Zealand (Vodafone, Telecom, 2Degree).
Now the reason why I'm on Android v2.1 is because when I was on v2.2 (Froyo), it has all sorts of problems with the WIFI. It's probably because of the kernel or something, and it seems A LOT of people have the same problem with me on v2.2 as well. If you do a quick Google search on wifi problems on Milestone then you'll understand why. A lot of people have suggested to flash back to v2.1 to fix this, and so I tried and it did indeed work for me. But since the only available SBF for v2.1 for New Zealand is for Telecom XT, now I have this new problem to deal with. It's not a big deal, I can stay on 3G. But if possible, I'd rather not because it seems v2.1 uses up battery more qiuckly, and the fact that using 3G uses more battery means I have to charge often and that's something I hate doing.
Now here's an important note. When I received my Milestone which came with v2.2 (Froyo) pre-installed, it was using Europe/UK I believe. It doesn't have problems with Vodafone's network on 2G at all, however like I mentioned it does have problems with the wifi. But the point is, the 2G network for Vodafone works fine on it.
So ya I'm just wondering, are there any Milestone users out there that flashed a different SBF, say Europe for example, and able to get the Vodafone network to work fine on 2G, while also making wifi work fine as well?
Or, are there any basebands for New Zealand that I can flash? There doesn't seem to be any from what I found.
Oh and here's where I found the SBF files in case you're wondering, here's the link for v2.1 (Eclair):

and here's the link for v2.2 (Froyo):

Hi,
I am having the following situation with my mobile data.
Bought an HTC One in Germany, everything works well, took it to Peru (Claro Network) where I currently live, also everything worked fine.
Rooted the device and installed Android Revolution 12.1. - everything worked good.
Installed Google Edition Rom - not sure if EDGE or 3G / 4G worked. Installed again Android Revolution (this time 12.2) and since then I only get EDGE coverage (yes, i am in an area with 3G and 4G coverage - my kids phones work without issue). I believe that the Android Revolution does not touch the radio so I guess the Google Edition is/was the initiatior of the problem.
Thought that it might be the Radio, and flashed the up to date T-Mobile Germany radios (as they worked in the beginning), but no change.
What to do? Is there some other component which might effect the EDGE / 3G & 4G reception? Anyone has a Claro Peru radio to make a final check?
Attaching screenshoot of Firmware etc.
Thanks alot,
TK
Go to settings -> Mobile Data
There is a "Network Mode" section make sure it is on GSM WCDMA LTE auto
If that doesnt work, make sure you are on the correct "access point" I, for whatever reason, have the GSM access point and a "WAP" one for my company. One time it auto-selected WAP and I was having issues with internet.
Hi,
yes all activated. Just did some more research ... and maybe someone can help.
I am having a M7_UL version but it was bought in Europe, and does not support the 850 3G band which I need overhere in Peru. I am stuck on the 1.54 Bootloader. How can I get this to work. A Canadian Radio e.g. would do as it support the 850 Band.
Thanks alot for a hint,
T
