the mute-when-flipped-face-down doesnt work!! (new phone)
so i checked for this in the registry according to this well-known-tweak:
4. Switch Mute Call on phone flipped face down: HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE : FaceDownMuteRing: change value to "0"
but it is set to 1, so it should work, but it just doesnt.
I have it lying flat face-down on a very horizontal desk, but it still rings!
any suggestions?
thanks!
Flip off
I had the same misunderstanding. The flip ringer silence functions by turning the phone when it begins to ring and laying it face down. Hope this helps.

hi m8!
thanks for your reply
1. then this whole function becomes much less interesting i think
2. i tried your suggestion: didnt work as well.
it should be nice to have it muted while display face the table but the real usage gives sense as well ... the phone is ringing you look who is calling and then put it back on table to mute it ... if you want to have permanent mute then simply activate vibrate / silent mode ...

FaceDownMuteRing is set to 1 default (as i have it now) and it doesnt work now.
You say i should set it to 0: that doesnt make sense. 1 = true,
in this case meaning to mute when facedown......
Not?
Mine is set to 0 and does not work....

Seems like you have a duff phone there, id send it back for a replacement or get them to fix it.
ok - set mine to 1, did not work. Figured a reg change might need a soft reboot - which I did and now - IT WORKS

Are you aware that this doesn't work if you are called and your phone is already facing down!? This function requiers you to flip the phone face down when you get a call (from the starting position when it is on its back). If it is facing down already you need to flip the phone 360 degreeds over its longest axis to mute it.
This function is not suitable for meetings in which you cannot be disturbed. In that case you need to put it on silent or vibrate mode manually in the config menu.
aware of that yes.
set to 1, reboot, tried
set to 0, reboot, tried
set to 1, reboot, tried
nothing works.....mmm
Do your accelerometors work? Does the web and photos move around the screen as you rotate the device? Does the ball game work?
I simply changed the value from 0 to 1 and reset.
Left the phone face up on my desk and called it. Then turned it face down and the ring was muted...

i tried it after 3 hard resets! each time worked only once till the first soft reset. after a soft reset the value in the registry stayed "tweaked" but with no effect.
Mine is set to 1 and it works gr8
mine works no problem... make sure you are using the new ROM's. (and btw having the phone so that it is silent when ever the phone is face down is silly, coz it may be in you pocket (or hand bag 4 women) and face down and then it wont ring... no good. the default method, of looking at the screen and then turning in face down is a good idea tho...)
I had the same problem - didn't work no matter what i did. Recently i updated the ROM to 1.93 and this fixed the problem. Works like a charm now.

You can set this to go to vibrate automatically if you're in a meeting (that's in your schedule)

in the tweaks thread there is a mistake. registry should be 1 not 0 (like somebody already write here). that's also the default. use your head m8!

Is there a hack to not have the backlight automatically dim out when screen locking the phone? Any help appreciated on this. Thanks.
Yeah, use search. There's a quick & dirty fix that helps until HTC wakes up. It's in this thread somewhere.
Thanks,
I did search quite a bit. The fix I found was to diable the screen shutting off during a phone call. I haven't been able to find the fix for the backlight dimming out when screen locking the device.
Search
Hmmmm... Sorry you missed it. I went back a couple of pages and found ur answer; there are two:
1) Easiest remains to switch off-on your TyTN II after call. Ur back to normal then.
2) Option is a small app, written by Magxs that wakes the baby up after disconnect. See more here: link.
Hope this is of use.
edit: by the way, this only seems to happen to password protected systems. That is an option - switch off the PW. Lot of us can't due to corporate (exchange or goodlink) security pollicy.
Thanks Nukenine, however, this is not the issue I am questioning. Regarding the issue that you are speaking about, the following is the fix:
Modifying the DWORD stored in:
Code:
\HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableFastDormantDisplayDuringCall
from "1" to "0" will leave the screen on and will fall back to the backlight/power settings
My question is when I key lock my device (the action that we can have on our today screen which says "Device Locked" or "Device Unlocked"), the screen automatically dims out. And when I tap on the screen, it stays dim, it does NOT become bright again. So, I am asking if anyone knows the registry hack on this issue. I hope I clarified what I am trying to find. Thanks again.
Sorry for misunderstanding.
It is a very easy fix.
HKCU\ControlPanel\BackLight\LockLevel\
Change LockLevel to something other than 0. I use 4. The number indicates now many notches you have the slider moved up in the back light control panel.

Hey Jason,
Thanks for the info. However, when I change the number to 4 (I even tried 9), and then I screen lock my device, my original Backlight setting (set to turn off in 30 Seconds) changes to 10 seconds. When I unlock it, go to the backlight settings, change it back to 30 seconds and then lock it, it changes automatically back to 10 seconds. So the hack works, but it gets rid of the backlight settings and changes them to the ones mentioned above.
The more serious issue is when I soft reset the device. It seems that the number I entered into the registry path goes back to the default "0" automatically. I tried this three times and it always goes back to the "0" default, rendering the hack useless.
Any advice?
Thanks again.
Jason, any advice on the above? Is it possible it is because of the registry editor I am using (Resco Registry)?
Sorry it took so ling, been busy.
That is odd.. I guess i hadn't rebooted in some time.. Mine goes back to 0 as well. It doesn't have anything to do with your registry editor. Something is changing it back on boot. Probably one of the HTC services or something. So there may be no good fix for this.. Other than someone writing a program that will change it back after start up.
I don't have my back light ever set to go off after a time.. It seems pointless to me.. Just have the device power off after a time. Saves more power than just dimming the back light.
anyway.. i have not seen the issues you describe with that but i don't have it set that way.

This is bugging me too. I hope we find a solution for it soon. Is there a place in registry where startup programs can be defined? If yes, is there a silent tool we can use to import a reg file in the background at startup?
Not sure if i'm doing something wrong but when i make or receive a call and put the phone to my ear .. it seems to still respond to my ear touching the screen .. surely this should be disabled during a call for when i'm not using my hands free ..
I'm using duttys touchflow final if that helps
cheers
you could use kaiser tweaks and set fast sleep to enabled and sleep to enabled as 1 solution
I find that tweak can cause problems with the phone after calls.
Better to just knock the power button during the call. That turns the screen off but leaves the call live.

Thats why its the first thing you can disable with Kaiser Tweak. The fast sleep on calls setting causes the screen to not wake properly afterwards, unless you manually put it into standby and back again.
There are two listed tweaks for preventing the Diamond from turning the screen off during a call. I've done them both, and nothing happens. Are these tweaks confirmed to work for all phones, or just on some? It says the "Sleep" one works on european ROM -- do all European phones have the same rom?
I'm having a simmilar problem... It seems that the screen turns off after a set period of time... I thought that the light sensor was supposed to only shut the screen off when you bring it up to your ear, light gets dull... I have the phone sitting in well lit room and done got near it yet the screen still turns off..?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406094&page=2
give it a shot
I've read that if you remove the stylus while in a call, then the note program comes on automatically, but the screen will also stay on until the call is finished

yes, you are right and this is in my humble opinion the best solution. this way even if u touch with yr ear/cheek the screen no funny noises and no unwanted programs popping up not to mention that this way u have the choice and if you don't need the screen it stays black.
If you want to turn your screen back on during a call just simply press the round center button once and it will turn back on. no need for any hacks.
Thanks for the help
From what I have read, the phone screen should only turn off the screen when you bring it up to your ear/there is low light on the light sensor in the handsets ear speaker... My phone's screen shuts itself off after 3 seconds or so, doesnt matter where light is... If you just disable fastdormant (1 to 0), does the phone still shut itself off after x seconds or does it wait until there is a change in light?
Can anyone confirm/clarify the above???
Also is it possible to reactivate the display once the phone detects a sizeable change in brightness again? From reading the links posted, no one has found a solution for this one yet..?
The screen will not turn off as long as you continue to touch the center button during call. The default setting work fine with me until I need to get information during a call yesterday. The center button touch allow you to use other functions during phone call.
[EDIT] STRANGELY ENOUGH, AFTER ENTERING THE REGISTRY AND JUST LOOKING AT THE VALUE OF THE KEYS HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM BELOW...

My problem is that my phone won't go into the sleep mode when calling. Covering the phone doesn't help (I've tested the light sensor, and that still works)
For me this feature is a positive thing so I would like it to work again.
The registry entry for the EnableFastDormant is still on "1". The HTC Phone Skin is loaded (without that skin it doesn't work either).
When searching the forum I come across people who want their screen to stay on... I want the opposite to happen again. Anybody a suggestion?

Check this reg entry as well:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep - 1
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable - 1
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall - 5
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCall - 5
Also,
Start - Settings - System
Power
Advanced
Check the following:
Turnoff Backlight if device is not used for 30 Sec
Turn off Device if not used for 40 sec
All the best
Note: After changing Registry Entries.. (if you had to).. do a soft reset.

Problem with 1.93 ROM
Hey,
I cant seem to get the screen to stay on during a phone call using Asia WWE 1.93 ROM....
I have got BattTimeoutIncall = 0
BattSuspendIncall = 0
Phone\Sleep = 0
EnableFastdormant = 0
but the screen still turns off if i leave the phone sitting on the desk under light exactly when the call time ticks over to 4 sec (0:03 to 0:04)...
Ideas anyone, is this an issue with v1.93 rom?
Thanks.

This is actually the best option because it turns off the screen when you want to conserve battery life.
So I just press the Center button when I want to see the screen to use the keypad or speakerphone.
Also, I have disabled the phone shade (curtain) by doing this:
Code:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Phone/PhoneLockEnable = 0

No, nothing works on it Im struggling
Try grabbing the phone from the earpiece area (top) and flipping its face down.
It worked out of the box in mine.
Why not try and get yours exchanged from the shop where you bought it from?
Are you using the old-style WM phone skin? If so, this feature only works with the new (default) Diamond phone skin.
Mathew
Im using the normal skin that was on the phone when you get it. Or wait. I think i turned off something called: Phone -> Skin / Disabled. Maybe thats why? I read that this would stop the ring delay.
Yes, disabling the new phone skin does seem to stop/reduce the ring delay...
...but it also takes out the mute-when-faced-down feature (and the vibrate-on-connect one too)!
Mathew
Scuse my ignorance here but what is "Mute Call on screen down" supposed to actually do? Does it:
1) Mute the microphone during a call in progress. or..
2) Silence a call when ringing and send it to your message bank.
3) Silence the ringer if you turn the phone over to face the table - the phone keeps on ringing (silently) however until your voicemail kicks in so your caller doesn't know you're 'ignoring' them.

I see. So. I think ill reenable the skin. But what IS the "phone skin" anyway? Does it look different when i get a call? Never tried, disabled it right after i got the phone. im gonna try and enable it back.
Aalright, i tried to reenable, and yes it worked. I could now face it down to mute calls. But. It seemed like there was a 3 second delay before the phone would recieve the call. So i disabled the skin once again, and noticed there is still a 1-2 second delay even without skin. So i, reenabled skin after all. 1 more second of delay is no harm if i can have the "mute when face down" feature, although i'd much rather have the skin disabled to get zero delay. But i guess this cant be done.

to come to my problems i am giving u a list of problems which i were not able to solve:
1. nearly each day my diamond dials into the internet to check for email, but i didnt
2.sometimes it happens that when i am getting my diamond out of the pocket he asks me whether i am sure to turn the diamond off or not, but i didnt push the off button, especially not that long
3.the touchfield below the display is just usable with my fingers, not with the stylus or something like this, but earlier it did work with finger and stylus
4.very often it happens that when i am called that my diamond just take off the telephone call(which is nearly impossible becuase i do have the slider and to press the field down it needs very much which isnt existing in my pocket)
5. when i am controlling my volummne i have often problems that the systemloudness is very loud but the ringtone loudness stays on silent or turns on silent
i do not prefer to have a hardreset as a solution because than i would have to made all the vocabulary again
