Mute on screen face down - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

The feature for muting incoming call when screen faces down, isnt this turned on by standard? Cuz mine doesnt work. I try to call it and turn it screen-down but doesnt work. I also found a registry value that i thought was for this feature but i dont think that worked either. Can anyone tell me what to do, and knows that it works 100%?

is your accelerometer calibration? it is possible it ain't calibrated correctly and phone can't tell if it's faced down.

Yes it is. Ive got the calibrator installed. And calibrated. Is this feature normally on as standard?

It came as standard on my device.

1. i recommend you to to the same (search before u post).
2. if the value of the reg HKLM\Software\HTC\PHONE : FaceDownMuteRing: is "0" (as it was once written in the "tweaks" post) change it back to "1"
3. trickster, looking back at yr posts....there is something that works on yr diamond? problem, after problem, after problem...

No, nothing works on it Im struggling

Try grabbing the phone from the earpiece area (top) and flipping its face down.

It worked out of the box in mine.
Why not try and get yours exchanged from the shop where you bought it from?

Are you using the old-style WM phone skin? If so, this feature only works with the new (default) Diamond phone skin.
Mathew

Im using the normal skin that was on the phone when you get it. Or wait. I think i turned off something called: Phone -> Skin / Disabled. Maybe thats why? I read that this would stop the ring delay.

Yes, disabling the new phone skin does seem to stop/reduce the ring delay...
...but it also takes out the mute-when-faced-down feature (and the vibrate-on-connect one too)!
Mathew

Scuse my ignorance here but what is "Mute Call on screen down" supposed to actually do? Does it:
1) Mute the microphone during a call in progress. or..
2) Silence a call when ringing and send it to your message bank.

3) Silence the ringer if you turn the phone over to face the table - the phone keeps on ringing (silently) however until your voicemail kicks in so your caller doesn't know you're 'ignoring' them.

I see. So. I think ill reenable the skin. But what IS the "phone skin" anyway? Does it look different when i get a call? Never tried, disabled it right after i got the phone. im gonna try and enable it back.

Aalright, i tried to reenable, and yes it worked. I could now face it down to mute calls. But. It seemed like there was a 3 second delay before the phone would recieve the call. So i disabled the skin once again, and noticed there is still a 1-2 second delay even without skin. So i, reenabled skin after all. 1 more second of delay is no harm if i can have the "mute when face down" feature, although i'd much rather have the skin disabled to get zero delay. But i guess this cant be done.

Not sure if i'm doing something wrong but when i make or receive a call and put the phone to my ear .. it seems to still respond to my ear touching the screen .. surely this should be disabled during a call for when i'm not using my hands free ..
I'm using duttys touchflow final if that helps

you could use kaiser tweaks and set fast sleep to enabled and sleep to enabled as 1 solution
I find that tweak can cause problems with the phone after calls.
Better to just knock the power button during the call. That turns the screen off but leaves the call live.

Thats why its the first thing you can disable with Kaiser Tweak. The fast sleep on calls setting causes the screen to not wake properly afterwards, unless you manually put it into standby and back again.

Screen off during phone call tweaks

There are two listed tweaks for preventing the Diamond from turning the screen off during a call. I've done them both, and nothing happens. Are these tweaks confirmed to work for all phones, or just on some? It says the "Sleep" one works on european ROM -- do all European phones have the same rom?
I'm having a simmilar problem... It seems that the screen turns off after a set period of time... I thought that the light sensor was supposed to only shut the screen off when you bring it up to your ear, light gets dull... I have the phone sitting in well lit room and done got near it yet the screen still turns off..?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406094&page=2
give it a shot
I've read that if you remove the stylus while in a call, then the note program comes on automatically, but the screen will also stay on until the call is finished

yes, you are right and this is in my humble opinion the best solution. this way even if u touch with yr ear/cheek the screen no funny noises and no unwanted programs popping up not to mention that this way u have the choice and if you don't need the screen it stays black.
If you want to turn your screen back on during a call just simply press the round center button once and it will turn back on. no need for any hacks.
Thanks for the help
From what I have read, the phone screen should only turn off the screen when you bring it up to your ear/there is low light on the light sensor in the handsets ear speaker... My phone's screen shuts itself off after 3 seconds or so, doesnt matter where light is... If you just disable fastdormant (1 to 0), does the phone still shut itself off after x seconds or does it wait until there is a change in light?
Can anyone confirm/clarify the above???
Also is it possible to reactivate the display once the phone detects a sizeable change in brightness again? From reading the links posted, no one has found a solution for this one yet..?
The screen will not turn off as long as you continue to touch the center button during call. The default setting work fine with me until I need to get information during a call yesterday. The center button touch allow you to use other functions during phone call.
[EDIT] STRANGELY ENOUGH, AFTER ENTERING THE REGISTRY AND JUST LOOKING AT THE VALUE OF THE KEYS HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM BELOW...

My problem is that my phone won't go into the sleep mode when calling. Covering the phone doesn't help (I've tested the light sensor, and that still works)
For me this feature is a positive thing so I would like it to work again.
The registry entry for the EnableFastDormant is still on "1". The HTC Phone Skin is loaded (without that skin it doesn't work either).
When searching the forum I come across people who want their screen to stay on... I want the opposite to happen again. Anybody a suggestion?

Check this reg entry as well:
HKCU\ControlPanel\Phone\Sleep - 1
HKCU\ControlPanel\Backlight\LightSensorPollingEnable - 1
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatteryTimeoutInCall - 5
HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\BatterySuspendTimeoutInCall - 5
Also,
Start - Settings - System
Power
Advanced
Check the following:
Turnoff Backlight if device is not used for 30 Sec
Turn off Device if not used for 40 sec
All the best
Note: After changing Registry Entries.. (if you had to).. do a soft reset.

Problem with 1.93 ROM
Hey,
I cant seem to get the screen to stay on during a phone call using Asia WWE 1.93 ROM....
I have got BattTimeoutIncall = 0
BattSuspendIncall = 0
Phone\Sleep = 0
EnableFastdormant = 0
but the screen still turns off if i leave the phone sitting on the desk under light exactly when the call time ticks over to 4 sec (0:03 to 0:04)...
Ideas anyone, is this an issue with v1.93 rom?
Thanks.
this works!

This is actually the best option because it turns off the screen when you want to conserve battery life.
So I just press the Center button when I want to see the screen to use the keypad or speakerphone.
Also, I have disabled the phone shade (curtain) by doing this:
Code:
HKLM/Software/HTC/Phone/PhoneLockEnable = 0

Just an Idea... maybe its possible to set the Touchscreen sensitivity to VERY low everytime there is incoming Phone call. And then you cant accidentially press one of the onscreen buttons. However, i think registry entries only change after a softreset. MAybe there is some workaround?
this solution will affect the entire normal use of the diamond. :-(

I'm willing to pay the money saved in missed calls in one week. It could be a lot, for sure...

Well actually i meant it a different way. Imagine.. There is an incoming Call... This call is recognized, and the touch sensitivity is set to very low. After the call is done, or the call is taken, the sensitivity is restored..
yep... but i suggest this like a second try....
the easiest way is to create a new phone skin.
the best is a "only hw buttons" option
i can't believe to the drink beer app... useless but true... and nothing about this bug... it's incredible.
I would be satisfied to have ALL the hardware keys to be locked during incoming calls and the screen locked and need to unlock the screen with ie a slide before be able to answer... As the hardware buttons also is easy to press when it's in the pocket when your sitting etc.

I don't get it. My on/off button is set to lock all other buttons when the device is off, apparently meaning the display. At calls the display is off after a few seconds and I have two choices to bring it back - push the on/off or remove the stylo causing notes to launch. Hence the only insident where I can see a problem is when the display is trickered to go on (alarm or incoming call) and it's way down the bag you may push something. Here I suspect the solution is to have it in a pouch. Anyway, I have seen many yields about this so i'll surely be victimised one day as well.
Its a really challenging app to make.
Think about it. How can u lock the keys yet mantain the ability to answer anytime with one button.
Tough call
maybe using the light sensor ... in the pouch screen off- out the pouch screen on

No, touching the screen will not bring the screen ON, the only thing that will bring the screen ON is pressing a hard key.
It's an excellent idea to make the light sensor feel if it's in the dark, and if so shut down the screen, the only problem is that nobody knows how to reliably do this for all ROMs (even official).
Take a look here guys... already lots of posts on this

1 a new phone skin without any buttons is the easiest solution i guess
2 changing the sensibility pressure works only on soft reset
3 light sensor... nice, but i don't think it's the best way to do this
isn't a predefined "lock screen" function on the diamond?
i'm a developer but i dunno nothing about pda application... i think it's weird if no one thought to a simple "block screen" function.

How to keep screen from switching on when SMS received.

Hi all,
I can't seem to discover how to achieve this and I'm tearing my hair out.
When my Ignito is in standby (ie, screen off and resting in my pocket) and I receive a text message, the screen comes back to life and it plays a little sound. I'm happy to hear a noise, but I can't work out how to make sure the screen stays off.
Picture the scenario: Walking along a busy road, a txt arrives, unheard in my pocket. The screen comes to life. Then the touch sensitivity comes into play and suddenly my phone is carrying out random touchscreen activated functions, including some rather long and unexpected phone calls to my brother in law!!!
How can I ensure the screen stays off? In Settings/Sound and notifications, my "receive text message" only has "play sound" checked. "display message on screen" is off. So I expect the screen really ought to stay off!!!
What am I missing here?
Cheers,
Mike

You can stop your device from getting awake by downloading the Advanced Config app here on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151
Then, when you installed it, you select the option 'Messaging'....from there you go to: 'wake up on new sms' and disable this option....hope this will help you to solve your problem
Thanks for your help.
I have already downloaded this app (advanced config version 3.2) but under messaging, there is no "wake up on new sms" option.
Is there a registry key I can amend manually? I've had a look around my device but can't see a suitable "wake on SMS" key.

Strange on my copy of advanced config 3.2 i have that option....have you soft resetted your device after installing the app??...might be worth a try.
If you set it to 0, does that mean the device does not wake up when there is a message? Do you still hear the sound? How would you then unlock the phone?
(Sorry, I still don't have the Touch Pro but will get it once it's available here )

Yes...the phone doesn't wake up when you receive a new text...i'm not sure if it will make a sound....(in thought not so) i'm not sure...good luck
Yes, it will sound accordingly but the screen will not come on (wake up). That option to turn it on/off is available in Advance Config V 3.2.
Well, my Advanced config definitely does not have the option as described. However, i made the registry key myself and it works quite nicely.
Strangely, now when I receive a message and the device in standby, it plays my "text received" sound twice. Odd indeed. Unless the device is locked and in standby, when only plays the sound once. I can live with this.
Thanks everyone for your help

to come to my problems i am giving u a list of problems which i were not able to solve:
1. nearly each day my diamond dials into the internet to check for email, but i didnt
2.sometimes it happens that when i am getting my diamond out of the pocket he asks me whether i am sure to turn the diamond off or not, but i didnt push the off button, especially not that long
3.the touchfield below the display is just usable with my fingers, not with the stylus or something like this, but earlier it did work with finger and stylus
4.very often it happens that when i am called that my diamond just take off the telephone call(which is nearly impossible becuase i do have the slider and to press the field down it needs very much which isnt existing in my pocket)
5. when i am controlling my volummne i have often problems that the systemloudness is very loud but the ringtone loudness stays on silent or turns on silent
i do not prefer to have a hardreset as a solution because than i would have to made all the vocabulary again
