Hi all,
I can't seem to discover how to achieve this and I'm tearing my hair out.
When my Ignito is in standby (ie, screen off and resting in my pocket) and I receive a text message, the screen comes back to life and it plays a little sound. I'm happy to hear a noise, but I can't work out how to make sure the screen stays off.
Picture the scenario: Walking along a busy road, a txt arrives, unheard in my pocket. The screen comes to life. Then the touch sensitivity comes into play and suddenly my phone is carrying out random touchscreen activated functions, including some rather long and unexpected phone calls to my brother in law!!!
How can I ensure the screen stays off? In Settings/Sound and notifications, my "receive text message" only has "play sound" checked. "display message on screen" is off. So I expect the screen really ought to stay off!!!
What am I missing here?
Cheers,
Mike

You can stop your device from getting awake by downloading the Advanced Config app here on XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151
Then, when you installed it, you select the option 'Messaging'....from there you go to: 'wake up on new sms' and disable this option....hope this will help you to solve your problem
Thanks for your help.
I have already downloaded this app (advanced config version 3.2) but under messaging, there is no "wake up on new sms" option.
Is there a registry key I can amend manually? I've had a look around my device but can't see a suitable "wake on SMS" key.
Then again, I'm quite new to windows mobile...
Cheers

Strange on my copy of advanced config 3.2 i have that option....have you soft resetted your device after installing the app??...might be worth a try.
If you set it to 0, does that mean the device does not wake up when there is a message? Do you still hear the sound? How would you then unlock the phone?
(Sorry, I still don't have the Touch Pro but will get it once it's available here )

Yes...the phone doesn't wake up when you receive a new text...i'm not sure if it will make a sound....(in thought not so) i'm not sure...good luck
Yes, it will sound accordingly but the screen will not come on (wake up). That option to turn it on/off is available in Advance Config V 3.2.
Well, my Advanced config definitely does not have the option as described. However, i made the registry key myself and it works quite nicely.
Strangely, now when I receive a message and the device in standby, it plays my "text received" sound twice. Odd indeed. Unless the device is locked and in standby, when only plays the sound once. I can live with this.
Thanks everyone for your help

I've been playing with my Kaiser and these are the last remaining bugs that I can't figure out:
1. No Data while using Voice. See thread in this forum for other's complaints.
2. Phone does not wakeup when a email is received. I tried following other's advice by installing Spb time, and enabling "Wakeup Tweak" and this had no effect. Phone plays notification sound, but still is sleep.
3. Phone locks keys and sleeps while talking. On my 8125 with WM5, the phone would turn off the display, but would wake up with any key press while in the call. This is kind of handy in case I want to see another call come in, go to speaker phone, mute, etc. Right now, I need to hit the power button.
4. Menu's in messaging are really annoying. It would be wonderful if there was a way to modify the menu's in messaging. In SMS/MMS the New Menu Item is actually another menu where the first item is "Multimedia message". There are other things I find annoying.
Other than these annoyances, I think the phone is really doing great.

You may not have 3g in your area, or your provider requires UMTS which you
can enabled by installing the Kaiser Tweak program.
2. Phone does not wakeup when a email is received. I tried following other's advice by installing Spb time, and enabling "Wakeup Tweak" and this had no effect. Phone plays notification sound, but still is sleep.
I like this effect since it doesn't waste battery. I'm not sure how to fix this one

Turn off fast sleep, use kaiser tweak to disable.

1. I guess from what others are saying you have to be in the HSPDA area.
2. I guess I never realized it but mine doesn't either, be nice if it were an option but I don't know if it is.
3. These are reg settings, install the reg tweaks sticky above
4. I don't quite understand what you looking for or what is the problem.
Thanks for the reply exstatica.
I have kaiser tweak installed.
For #1, which option is this exactly, I'm not seeing what option you explain.
For #3, I have "Fast Screen Off" = Disabled (Advised)
jallenclark,
If you go into Messaging and then your Outlook E-Mail account, you will notice the Menu has "MMS Options" as the last item in the menu. On 8525, WM6, "Send/Receive" was the last option. It was nice that this was the last item. Why "MMS Option" need to be on the Email account, I have no idea.
If you go into Messaging and then you MMS/SMS account, the Menu Has a New Menu Item, then two sub-items. This isn't out it use to be.
I wish there was a way to modify these items.
I think it is near the top of the tweak program, it is called Fast Sleep.
I see what you mean about the Send/Receive and I agree completely. I am sure it would be possible to switch the order of the buttons but I don't know how to program it. I went from 8125 and it was similar to this the send/recieve was 3 up on the list.
I had 0.3 of KaiserTweak, current version 0.4 has the option you were talking about. Duh moment on my part
The Kaiser has voice and data at the same time as long as you are in a 3g area.
I can stream live TV from my media center pc using webguide4 and as long as the icon shows the "H" symbol for HSDPA then I can make and recieve calls while the video streams. The audio on the video is muted until I hang up the phone but the video is still playing non the less. If I do not have the "H" icon then this will not work.
This is not a problem with the phone it is the way the technology works. Be thankful, this is only with GSM providers. Meaning that this is not even an option with the best service area with Sprint and Verizon.
I get over 100 emails a day in my line of job, if the "feature" you describe existed (wake up on email) the first thing I'd look for is how to turn it off... My Hermes did the same BTW, you hear the sound, but the units remains in standby mode.

Not quite sure what you mean but if you are wanting a send a sms you can always set one of the softkeys to "New SMS" meaning you only need to click one button to compose a sms.

fast sleep makes my tilt (kaiser, 8925, varioIII) respond incorrectly.
fast sleep is a good idea conceptually but while it saves battery power, when i wake up my phone in call or after the call is over, It makes most of the home screen and the soft buttons unresponsive. I can usually fix this by putting it to sleep and waking it up one more time. Sometimes when this happens the backlight comes on only very dim. I dont see a setting for the fast sleep while in a call. Here are some steps i have tried to resolve this issue.
tried to remove all items from home screen
chose to not show owner info or notes when turning on device.
Changed power settings to not turn off device.
changed backlight to always stay on for testing.
told the device to not lock after no usage.
problem existed before i unlocked the device.
Any Ideas?
to answer some questions i can see headed my way here is the info on my kaiser.

I'm still annoyed that unlocking the phone (as in, unlock when it comes out of suspend with a pin, not sim unlocking) requires you to hit UNLOCK when you type in the pin, instead of the old way where the phone unlocks when you hit the last digit.
I'd still love some way to change it back.

Is it just me or is the Tytn II's speaker behaves differently to the original Tytn and D810?
1. Go to the phone keypad, try dial a string of number quickly, the speaker will start to pop as it can not play the key sound fast enough.. This has never been a problem with my 838 Pro or D810.
2. Make the Tytn II to play a sound, after it finishes listen carefully for a noise that appears to be the speaker turning off, it seems like after a sound is played the speaker's power is continuously on for a few seconds before switching off. Again this is different and unnoticeable on the 838 Pro or D810.
happens to me too.

I get the popping. It sounds like its making the speaker clip. I didnt get it until i changed to a cooked rom. IMHO, all cooked roms have bugs....but i would gladly settle for all of the worst bugs in the cooked roms over using the att tilt rom which was loaded with bloatware, fastsleep, proxy, crappy camera, crappy softkeyboard, etc.. etc.. etc... I really dont think its the speaker. I think its the rom. Backup and try a different one if you feel like testing.
Thanks,

Strange one this but I am left handed (eared) and after making a call I always find that my ear has opened lots of programs whilst talking. Is there a way to lock the display while taking a call or some other solution?
Also after uninstalling PocketInformant I now find my Calender softkey key is unmapped. I have seen references that I just need to remap it using "Advance Config" but I can't find that either.
Can someone help a halfwit..!
Thanks, Steve.

The Advanced Config is here:http://www.cinetsystems.com/xda/index.php?path=Kaiser+Cab+Collections/
hey, I have the same problem with programs opening up with my ear. the only solution I found is to turn ur screen off while on a call (press power button) or don't press ur ear as hard to the phone
omar
thats what i did. im still seeking a software which can automaticly lock the touch screen while on the call.
The easiest way is to just push the power button on the right side of your device while you're talking, as sometimes you might want to hit the speaker phone button or use the keypad. If you use this method of pushing the power button, all you need to do is hit it again and your screen is active.
PhoneAlarm will automatically blank the screen for you when a call is connected.

i might be wrong but when i tested S2U2 a while ago i recall seeing something about an option to "blank screen" during calls... may be worth a try, its free and available here at xda =)

As in post # 6 I also recommend PhoneAlarm. Does the job really nicely for me.
Thanks for all your fast answers..!
I knew all you smart guys would know what to do...
Somehow I am able to manage to switch of my phone ...
With my ear I am entering the connection manager and than I disable the phone or enter flight mode.
I am coming from a SE P990 and here the screen is automaticaly locked during a call.
It would make defenitly sense to block the input from the touch panel during a call, but keeping the display on for basic information. On the other side I would like to have also access if I want to look for a contact information or agenda setting during a call.
Claus
There are alternative solutions like PalmarySoft Phone ScreenLock which explicitely locks the touch screen without turning it off during call.
The best is that this app. does nothing else ... no today plugins ... nothing in excess.
Simple ... yet usefull.
Does it have the functionality to unlock while you're on the call?
Say you want to look something up while on the phone....
yes it does.
A problem I have is that when reciving a SMS the Kaiser wakes up (turning of the button lock). After this anything can happan in the pocket...
Any ways to let the Kaiser sleep right through a incoming SMS or MMS?
Here is what I use to ensure that my Kaiser is locked "On Device Wakeup"
I found it on XDA-Devs a while back. All credit goes to the author "Matt Armstrong".
Basically it adds a CPL Applet to the System Tab called Device Lock.
Check the option to "Lock on Wake"
I just set mine to lock after 5 mins anyway. Then even though a text wakes it, it simply goes to the pin screen so it cant ring anyone or the like.
Thats a device lock(?)
I just want my Kaiser to not wake up on incoming sms/mms.

The Device Lock doesn't stop your phone from waking, it simply locks the keys and dims the screen on wake. So in your pocket (or elsewhere) it will still notify you unless you are set to silent.
If you want to stop the wake up process have you turned off all notifications for SMS/MMS? I believe it is the notification that actually triggers the Wake-up not the actual receipt of the message.
thanks..this problem annoys me as well
Hi
The phone has to wake up (i.e. come out of standby) to accept the text message, so it may as well light up the screen and let you know about it.
Regards
Phil
So it isnt possible, in any way, to make the kaiser just notify incoming sms and keep on sleeping.
Thats pretty sad because the on/off switch is the best device lock on the market in my opinion.
I get the idea with the device lock on wake cab but it would be perfect to just lock/unlock with one simple keystroke.
*swenglish...*
I find it strange that the device doesnt wake up when an email comes in (on a outlook account), but it does wake up when an SMS comes in?
^ drives me nuts! lol
so in other words the only way to avoid this is the fact on turning off the text message notification all together?
The feature for muting incoming call when screen faces down, isnt this turned on by standard? Cuz mine doesnt work. I try to call it and turn it screen-down but doesnt work. I also found a registry value that i thought was for this feature but i dont think that worked either. Can anyone tell me what to do, and knows that it works 100%?

No, nothing works on it Im struggling
Try grabbing the phone from the earpiece area (top) and flipping its face down.
It worked out of the box in mine.
Why not try and get yours exchanged from the shop where you bought it from?
Are you using the old-style WM phone skin? If so, this feature only works with the new (default) Diamond phone skin.
Mathew
Im using the normal skin that was on the phone when you get it. Or wait. I think i turned off something called: Phone -> Skin / Disabled. Maybe thats why? I read that this would stop the ring delay.
Yes, disabling the new phone skin does seem to stop/reduce the ring delay...
...but it also takes out the mute-when-faced-down feature (and the vibrate-on-connect one too)!
Mathew
Scuse my ignorance here but what is "Mute Call on screen down" supposed to actually do? Does it:
1) Mute the microphone during a call in progress. or..
2) Silence a call when ringing and send it to your message bank.
3) Silence the ringer if you turn the phone over to face the table - the phone keeps on ringing (silently) however until your voicemail kicks in so your caller doesn't know you're 'ignoring' them.

I see. So. I think ill reenable the skin. But what IS the "phone skin" anyway? Does it look different when i get a call? Never tried, disabled it right after i got the phone. im gonna try and enable it back.
Aalright, i tried to reenable, and yes it worked. I could now face it down to mute calls. But. It seemed like there was a 3 second delay before the phone would recieve the call. So i disabled the skin once again, and noticed there is still a 1-2 second delay even without skin. So i, reenabled skin after all. 1 more second of delay is no harm if i can have the "mute when face down" feature, although i'd much rather have the skin disabled to get zero delay. But i guess this cant be done.

hi all,
i do have several problems with my diamond, first of all i am using an offical rom by htc its 2.03.xxx and the manila of the hd
to come to my problems i am giving u a list of problems which i were not able to solve:
1. nearly each day my diamond dials into the internet to check for email, but i didnt
2.sometimes it happens that when i am getting my diamond out of the pocket he asks me whether i am sure to turn the diamond off or not, but i didnt push the off button, especially not that long
3.the touchfield below the display is just usable with my fingers, not with the stylus or something like this, but earlier it did work with finger and stylus
4.very often it happens that when i am called that my diamond just take off the telephone call(which is nearly impossible becuase i do have the slider and to press the field down it needs very much which isnt existing in my pocket)
5. when i am controlling my volummne i have often problems that the systemloudness is very loud but the ringtone loudness stays on silent or turns on silent
i do not prefer to have a hardreset as a solution because than i would have to made all the vocabulary again
