Need some help with a decision. - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi guys I'm new here and I mostly just read what you all have to say about the Kaiser and how to improve it. But I was wondering if you guys could help me make a decision. I'm finally going to take the leap and get a TyTN II. I have AT&T and I've played around with my friends Tilt before he fragged it on the Sacramento River and I like it but I much prefer the TyTN II.
So you may be asking what's the problem. Well I've been looking at the soon to be released Touch Pro and have been really considering holding off a bit longer to get that one instead of the TyTN. I've found that while testing the TIlt that I rarely used the tilt feature and the news that the Touch Pro (along with the Diamond) will have a desk top docking station, I no longer see the tilt feature an advantage.
So what do you guys think? Should I hold off on the TyTN and get the Touch Pro? Or just go ahead with the TyTN and see how the Pro turns out?

Hi
I like the Tytn II very much but I have ordered a touch pro. The tilt feature is not so important for me compared to the higher performance, memory and resolution of the touch pro.
And, the Tytn II is sooo 2007 !!
Ciao, D

So when do you get yours? I was thinking about getting one from On The Go Solutions and they have it listed as available in August. I'm really leaning towards the Touch Pro the more I look into it.

And in 2009 Windows Mobile 7 should be coming out, so maybe I should wait until then. Wait in 2010 the 32GB SDHC cards should be coming out, so maybe I should wait to buy a phone that is compatible with those.
But then again , in 2011 the cpu clock speed should be up to 1 GHz, maybe I will wait.
See where I'm going with this ?

Yeah I do. I'm not going to wait to long, I was just curious as to what you guys thought. You are more in the know about these things than I so I wanted to make sure I was getting what I really want.

I'll make it easy for you..I'll sell you my 1.5 yr old, problem free TyTn II and I'll buy the Touch Pro ...which I am planning on doing anyway!
The tilt screen is nice but as mentioned it is worth the sacrifice. Besides I betcha some braniac is gonna come out with a Touch Pro "screen tilt mod" sooner or later and waah-lah !

Buy TYtn II or wait for it's sucessor ?

Hi there ,
I've sold my kaiser 2 days ago, so can't see any better phone in market to buy - so thinking should i buy a kaiser again or wait for it's succesor or go with nokia N95 8gb ?
Please help
It may be a while before the HTC TyTN II's succesor comes out. You may be in for a long wait. Not sure about the Nokia N95- I've heard both good and bad reviews. Not that I'm a style over substance person, but I don't really like the look of it. I think many will agree that the TyTNII is much more attractive than it
Like said above, you may be in for quite a wait if you decide that you want the successor to the TyTn II. That said, the current state of the TyTn II isn't very good, but I have faith that as newer products come out, our amazing devs here at XDA-Developers will be able to ultilize the full potential of the hardware.
That said, if I were in your position, I would probably wait on a different device, or an upgrade to the TyTn II (video drivers).
hey, I don't agree with lot of the ppl here. I don't think that "the state of the tytn II is bad" right now. the tytn II is a great phone, while it doesn't have the best video drivers. (i still watch full movies very good quality by re-sizing and syncing it through windows media player) however, the n95 8 gb is a great phone. if u live in north america id wait for the 3G version to be released, since the curent one doesn't work with north american 3G. the main reason I wouldn't get it is the lack of a touchscreen and lack of free programs. either way u go, u'll be fine. good luck
Getting confused ,When will Tytn II sucessor will come ? any news on Universal successor so called omni ?

August/September. Based on the fact that HTC releases this form factor every year around that time.
Was so for the Vario 1, Vario 2 and Vario 3.
No news yet on specifics though. But im betting VGA screens after seeing Manilla.

Quite right mate t-mob release new vario Near sep.
TYTN II Sucessor will have -
Fm radio
Vga
512 ROM
VGA wouldn't hurt, but isn't it about time they do something about storage? It's almost a joke that Tytn II's main competitors have 32x more storage space.
Anyway, I don't think it's worth waiting for, I myself don't have one but will probably buy it this month.

Why do you do this? Why say it "will have" these features when we really have NO IDEA what features it will have? Even people who work for HTC couldn't be certain right now on what the phone will be, since plans can and often do change. Seriously, you're only going to confuse the OP, since he obviously isn't clear on all this stuff...

Lol! I'm willing to bet that those who complain the loudest will be the first in line to purchase the TyTNIII, even with its crappy drivers.
Thats HTC devices for you. Can't live with it, but can't live without it
IMHO, today, the HP iPAQ 214 + Nokia N95 combo is the best, in every respect. Sure, it's two devices, but, as there's simply no really good converged device out there, you have to live with what you have.

If they DO include the drivers. AFAIK they won't. That is, their future Qualcomm-based devices will also be severely crippled.

No Omni news. Today, the closest to it is a N95 + HP 214 combo (with the external Stowaway keyboard if you do need a hardware keyboard)

Hmm... till now Htc plan is to add those new things to Kaiser successor + 2gb storage -can't say if they changed their specs @ last momemt .
if HTC's history is anything, they will first release a successor to the 6800, then we will see the TyTn III...
depends how cheap you can get the kaiser for
I can get Kaiser for around 340 pounds & N95 8gb for around 360 pounds -what to buy ?

HTC Tytn II or HTC Touch Pro, Please help!

I am sorry if this has been asked before, and to be honest I have not searched this forum either
Anyway, my question is this:
What is your opinion to the new HTC Touch Pro, is it worth the upgrade?
I read that it has 288 MB of RAM!
But I did hovever not find any information about if it has the proper drivers installed or not.
So please give me your opinios, should I upgrade or not?
Whats good about it and whats not so good compared to tytn II?
Thanks in advance!
Please comment!
Please everyone, I would very much welcome some comments and opinions on this, not just voting!
I would like to know why you are voting yes or no!
The reason I am asking this is becouse I am considering selling my tytn II to be able to by the Touch pro!
But I really need your opinions so I dont make a huge misstake here!
Thanks!
I would get one if it wasnt for the price!
has a VGA screen... slightly better camera... slightly better Processor... generally, not that much better, but slightly
One major downside of the diamond series is the glossy exterior. Fingersprints all over the thing. My Kaiser doesnt have that at all. So it has more RAM, but do you really use the current Kaisers amount? No way, i always have more then enough free. It's a slight upgrade compared to Kaiser, but is it worth the wait and/or money.
I think i will not stay with HTC anymore.... maybe get a SE X1
From what I have seen it does look like a good phone but TBH we will have to wait and see. I would say yes get it, but wait a little while to see what others think of it
If it has the same driver 'issues' as the TyTn II then i'd say no!
I say go for it.
1) Touch Pro is essentially the HTC Diamond with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard
2) Most of the HTC Diamond applications can be found on this or other forums
1+2 = not really worth the upgrade, if you are happy with the TYTN 2 processor
Don't know about the drivers, & i would hate to be cheated again....
Ok, these are very good arguments so I think I will wait for a while to see if it has the driver or not!
I was hoping that it was official already, and that people knew about the driver!
Anyway, does anyone know if it has tv-out or not? It is somewhat important for me to have that!

There wont be driver issues..it will come with built-in hardware acceleration via an ATi chip like the X1. The tytn II has no hardware acceleration what so ever, plus the missing drivers.
Now as to which to get X1 or Touch Pro is a tough choice.
I am for sure upgrading to the Touch Pro or X1 when they come out in September for the US versions.
Pros:
Lets face it: VGA screen(sharp crisp images/text/video), another 128Mhz faster, another 160mb system ram, true 3d hardware acceleration via Ati chipset, touchscreen 3D, 5 row keyboard, a flush screen, camera flash.
How can you say no to that?

Anyway, I'd go for the upgrade if I had the money. VGA screen, slick interface, faster processor, more ram, better camera, I could keep going.

RDS= TMC for GPS?

I tought that the information was not out yet, where did you hear or read that?
Also does that mean it will perform better when it comes to watching videos, and taking pics with the camera?
Thanks!
Like somebody said alrdy, the touch pro is just the htc diamond with a slide out keyboard...i personally dont think the diamond is as good at certain tasks like the kaiser is, like possible business/exchange email. On the multimedia standpoint all the kaiser needs is for the drivers to be released for full potential of video playback for the camera video recording and some other applications to be used to full potential but other then that, viewng of avi's(dvds) and youtube seem crystal clear or as good as a 2.8" screen can get. Both will have similar ati graphics cards or qualcomm chipsets, the pro supposedly will have hardware acceleration but will see(some specs are rumos dont belive everthing you read). Also the Kaier is 400mhz i mean that is pretty fast for a phone, try to remember that ad for the pro to have another 100mhz of course it will be faster but how much of a diference will that feel like when ur using the phone. Same Qualcomm processor but probably the MS7500... so im guessing, as for the extra 128megs of ram...i barely use 20-30 megs of a total of 125 on the kaiser, with my 4g micro sd card, i dont put any apps on the phone period so i dont think extra ram in a phone is that great of an eye turner. The main plus i see with the diamond pro is the VGA and tv out tuner, two things the kaiser doesnt have but its a matter of opinion if ur gonna be watching tv on a 2.8" phone...avi's are my limit and thats during spare time at work and same with youtube. I dunno...i say if the drivers for the kaiser come out by the time the pro comes out, an upgrade would have to be seriously convincing because with the video drivers, the kaiser will feel like a brand new phone again. I had no actual issues with the video playback and didnt see what all the hoopla was about with the lawsuit action and thread upon thread about the drivers until i went to a Barrack Obama rally and tried recording a video of his speech and noticed my recording looked like i was in the matrix going slomo dodging bullets like neo basically my video recording playback was like i had a nokia instead of the flagship Tilt, I then realized my old hermes used to record crystal clear on a 2 megapixel camera but now my kaiser felt handicaped in the camera department. Thats my two cents on my Kaiser, so if the pro has these playback issues, an upgrade will be a waste of money because both phones seem similar and HTC better improve on their customer awareness before they keep coming out with high end phones. I see very few advatages in the pro for me to drop another 400 plus broohaha's on it or even have to extend my contract for a milion years to upgrade to it.

Ok first of all the Touch pro is going to have a 528 MHz processor which I think is a huge difference from the 400 MHz we have now!
Second it has alot more RAM, 288 MB! I think this device will be lightning fast!
I dont see how you can say that HTC Diamond and HTC Touch Pro is almost the same phone? If you check out the specs you will clearly see a difference!
HTC Diamond Specs:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=46286
HTC Touch Pro Specs:
http://www.htc.com/www/product.aspx?id=49524
Also Diamond does NOT have tv-out what I can see! It lacks memory card slot and has built in 4 GB instead!
The only problem I can think of is if it indeed lacks proper drivers!
If this is not the issue anymore, then I will certainly go and buy it!
I would also like to know it it is possible to recieve TMC information now when it is equiped with an RDS Radio?
im not saying its a similar phone i just think that the upgrade in speed and ram isnt going to thrill a whole lot of kaiser people in shelling out the dough and extending contracts when the kaiser is a very efficient and solid phone bro....just that the second those drivers get droped it will be like ownning a brand new phone, that diamond is going to hit the back burner and be purchased by people who just wanna have the latest and greatest. The kaiser has alrdy been upgraded too by hermes, wizard, mda, treo and other older htc phone people because of its flagship credentials and solid specifications (built in GPS being one of them) for all us kaiser people to upgrade now to the next latest and greatest will take alot, just my opinion. And if this pro's video playback issues are the same why would anybody upgrade. I really think the only people upgrading to it if the kaisers drivers come out are people just wanting to say they have the newest htc phone. Also Branko for the pro to not have a memory card slot and only be able to store 4 gigs is deffinetly a turn off....i have a 4 gig in my kaser right now and i usually have a minimum of 3 to 4 900 meg avi movies in my tilt at a time with another 4-5 album mp3's and not including my word and pdf documents for school, so i like the fact that i can swap out my 4gig and put my other 2 gig micro sd card in when i need to. I mean the Kaiser is expandable to 32gigs...doesnt that option make the kaiser the flagship phone that it is? i dunno but the pro doesnt tickle my pimple but i guess it does yours!

I do get your point, but the fact is that the HTC Touch Pro does have an sd card slot just like the Tytn II! It´s the Diamond that has the 4 GB Built in and no sd card slot!
So you can say that HTC Touch pro is everything that Tytn II is now and much more
However I do agree with you that if it does not have the drivers in place it wont really matter!
Can someone please verify?
Can someone please verify that the HTC Touch Pro wont have the same driver issue that Tytn II has?
Please this is of great importance for me to decide if I will buy it or not!
Thanks!

16MB are great... that' 4 mp3s
But 16MB mircorSD cards are so expensive... I guess because they are handcrafted
Up to 16 GB microSD
It's a nicely spec'd phone but a bit too thick for my liking - I had a TyTn at one stage and couldn't handle the thickness.
I've just ordered a Touch Diamond so let's see how that goes!
16MB!! what to do with all that space ?!?!?!?
I can't wait to get my hands on this baby (only about 10 weeks to go apparently). I have a Nokia N95 at the moment which is a good size and the touchpro is 3 mm thinner.
I've used TyTN II, iPAQ and Treo. I feel Treo's keyboard is the best, then iPAQ, then TyTN II. Touch Pro has similar keyboard as TyTN II. The keyboard is just not the keyboard I like, honestly, I almost start hating it. (that's why I sold TyTN II and bought Diamond.).
If Touch Pro's keyboard has no significant improvement, and the time needed for screen rotation is not improved, I won't consider it, especially I'm using a Diamond now.
Keyboard is a lot better
I have handled the Pro and can say that the keyoard is a lot better.
Like you I don't much like the TYTNII style keyboard as I find it too small and spongy.
The new keyboard is larger and takes up much more of the available space. It is also much nicer to the touch.
I already have a Diamond and prefer to use my thumb or a stylus. I am only put off the Pro as I don't actually use a slide out keyboard and don't like the additional thickness.
All the best,
Sam.
@Sam: Thanks for the info about the keyboard...
I am really lookink forward to it and I hope that it is really available from August.
For me, the thinkness is less than my current phone and since I have rather larger hands I actually think that this is better since it fits better into the palm of my hand...
Let's wait and see when HTC makes it available...
I'm betting it'll be around the end of August running into September when this thing becomes widely available.

Yep, as usual... I never saw a release announcement that was not delayed in the end...
Nice phone
yea i like the phone too but i don't think ill be able to deal with the size. looks like the keyboard makes the phone too bulky.. im surprised htc cannot back the keyboard a little thinner. other than that i think this phone is worth waiting for... can't wait for it to come out.

Tytn 2 vs N95

Ok am changing my phone at the end of the week, have beeb looking at getting tytn 2 for ages, my brother bought around his new N95 8gb today and I have to say that I was quite impressed. I have spent a few hours tonight looking around trying to compare the two and have found a lot of useful information. One thing that impressed me with the N95 was the quality of the video. My brother started watching a film on his phone and the quality was astounding. I know that there is a lot of problems with the Tytn and the video drivers or the lack of them, is this something that in time will be resolved. In reality I am leaning towards the tytn 2.
Any thoughts would be awesome.
Marc
hey, ive owned both and keep going back to the tytn II. it really boils down to what you need. if camera and videos is what ur after go for the n95. for more functionality go for the tytn II. i personally prefer windows mobile over symbian as well. the deal clincher for me was the qwerty keyboard on the tytn II. once u get used to emailing/textin on a qwerty nothing comes close. good luck
Yep, I've had both too. n95 8GB is a great little phone, has all the media functions you'll ever need but I got bored of it after 2 weeks. I chose the TYTN2 becuase its soo customizable and theres always something to tweak and play about with on it. Also web browsing internet and Slide out keyboard is better for choosing TYTN2.
TYTN2 does everything N95 does plus more as you can load applications and software mods on it.
Thanks for the reply. Yea was leaning towards the tytn 2, now i am fully leant, thanks again.
Marc
well... just my two pence...
tytn II - great satnav, qwerty, touchscreen, winmo
n95 8gb - great camera, tv out, 3d acceleration (quake 2 rox on it)
this not so easy choice is Yours...
ya s60 is not too bad once u get used to it.. i actually have an n82 black edition that i'm playing with right now. pretty nice

Is Diamond a good upgrade

Hi Guys
I'm thinking of upgrading my Polaris to a Diamond and just wondering if you guys are still happy with the Diamond and do ya think an upgrade from my Polaris is worth while.
The Diamond spec and looks seem brilliant but the only thing am a bit concerned about is the small 4gb memory it has, is this a problem or do you just learn to live with it.
Thanks
Tim
I never had a polaris, but this phone is brilliant, best phone available. IMO obviously. 4gb is LOTS of space. i have an ipod touch for all my music and video needs.
I am qualified to answer this one.... (hey, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while)
I've upgraded from an HTC P3600-> P3650->P3700. Each time the upgrade was better but I have to say when I upgraded to the Diamond, I love the phone but was sadly disappointed with it's speed.
Because of the processor, I thought I would get a faster phone.... it's terribly slow compared to the P3650.
In fact, I actually made a post this last Friday asking if there was any tweaking I could do to make it faster.
I ended up installing Duttythroy's new ROM and IT FLIES. All I can say is this phone now performs the way it should have from the factory.
I even did the #1 tweak on the top tweak list for the Diamond (a sticky) on top of his ROM and it seems even faster.
I hated clicking on the "people" tab and having to wait until my contact list would appear. I made that post Friday and if by tonight I hadn't been able to do something about it, I was going to put it on ebay and buy an iphone.
All I can say is I'm glad I installed the ROM. The memory usage is great, the 4g internal memory is plenty, the phone is slick and I really like it now.... by far the best phone I've owned.
You won't regret getting it.
Mark
PS. I sold my P3650 on ebay and got just shy of 500 bucks out of it.
I used the polaris for a short period and own quite a few WM smartphones over the last few years and I would definitely recommend the upgrade. Yes the tflo3d was somewhat sluggish before but now it's all changed. I am using bepes rom and it's as smooth as butter. The thing with diamond is, it keeps on getting better each day, thanks to xda dev and it's valuable contributers. As for the 4gb storage, I keep a lot of stuff in there (lots of apps, 100's of pics and mp3's and a few movies :s) and its only over half full.
Anyway find out all about the phone and decide if you want it or not. If possible try going to a store to test one out before you make up your mind. And oh yh, You will love the display, it's just too good.
Regards,

I don't even know what the Polaris is so can't say whether or not an upgrade is recommended but I came from the N95 and don't regret it a bit.
Some reasons to get a Diamond - High res screen perfect for browsing and films, a back button - very useful to backstep in any application, a Home button - Returns you to your Today screen instantly, a SCROLL WHEEL!!!! wow!!! zoom in and out of photos and web pages with ease and with reg files from here you can use it for your contacts and various other apps and the best thing about the Diamond... a great community here to help you with any issues and provide you with new apps/ROMS to try in the quest to find the best.
Yes... I've had my Diamond for 6 days now and it's the best Windows mobile phone I've had. Only downsides the good-looking but not customisable TF3D and the battery. However, with the extended one coming out (or out already?) it should be fine.
Go for it...
Thanks for the help guys I think am hooked now I just have to decide where to get one from.
T-Mobiles MDA Compact IV
O2 XDA Ignito (Out Soon)
Expansys HTC Diamond
Never bought a rebranded (MDA,XDA) PDA before so do you lose or gain anything with regards to hardware or software.
Software I’m not too bothered about as I’ll probably just upgrade my ROM from this forum anyway.
Thanks
Tim
Yes........
yes
you know it makes sence
Curious
I know that it's a bit off topic, but like the poster, I'm about to upgrade my phone.
And I've been using WM based devices for a looooong while, so I would like to keep using WM based phones.
Now apart from Diamond there are other phones out there with WM that came out recently.
Samsung Omnia i900
Toshiba Portege G810
Both use WM6.1 just like Diamond.
Now I don't know if there are any users here of the Samsung and Toshiba phones, but if there are...how would you compare Diamond with them?
Around threee months after the launch it still has many problems:
The interface is still slow.
The battery life is still poor.
The cover still collects fingerprints like a magnet.
The storage is still not upgradable.
... and it's still the BEST frikking phone on the market. If you're gonna upgrade, you really have no better choice.
Just a simple answer
Its the best upgrade
