Hi all,
First post here for me Got my TyTN II a few days ago and I'm loving it. It's such a nice phone and has a great build quality.
The only big thing that I find disappointing is the speed of the device. My previous phone was an HTC Wizard and my TyTN II is supposed to be literally double the speed of it, but there's no way it feels like that. In fact the Wizard, when overclocked with BatteryStatus to about 260Mhz) seems faster than this new beast (at times).
The things I particularly notice the slow speed with are...
- opening the keyboard (switching from portrait to landscape mode seems to take 2-3 times as long as with the Wizard)
- navigating (scrolling) through the list of Programs just seems sluggish compared to my [overclocked] Wizard
Another peculiar thing I've noticed is the speed of the "view finder" in the camera. It seems sluggish to the EXTREME, almost like a "night mode" is permanently on! I've noticed that sometimes putting the device in to standby and waking it back up gets the view finder running at "full speed" (what I would say looks like 25-30 fps).
Anyone got a clue what I'm talking about?
Dave
Did you add any applications (which may not be 100% compatible) after getting the machine? I had a Wizard too and am waiting for the TyTN II to come, but with the Wizard certain applications slowed the phone down much!
Regards,
Nika.
Well yeah, I've loaded it with a ton of rubbish now but in all honesty I noticed the slow down when I first took the machine out of the box.
The camera preview/view finder is particularly puzzling!
I've just put BatteryStatus on (a) to see if the CPU is constantly working and (b) with the hope to overclock it a little. I've just noticed that it doesn't support the TyTYN II processor tho so that's out of the window!
Once a new cooked and "polished" ROM comes out for your Kaiser, it will work faster. Almost every first official ROM is buggy and sluggish. it's not the hardware, it's the software.
One reason why I don't buy a device on it's first release.
About the camera preview/view finder slowness, it is due to not enough light in the room.
I was puzzled also. I tought I got faulty device.
Try to use it outdoor, it is very good when it has enough light.
Here is the discussion:

Well, this surprises me. Mine is very fast and in particular for those things you mention!! Screen orientation for example is virtually instantaneous (maybe 1 to 2 seconds compared with TyTn that could take 5 to 20 seconds) and scrolling (with the exception of PIE) is smooth and fast. From standby by to on is less than a second. Compared with the TyTn the camera on 2mg is much faster as well.
Not sure where that leaves us then, if you say it was like that out of the box. That does not sound like it's something you have loaded, but might be worth re-checking that with a hard reset.
I notice a suggestion above that a new ROM might be faster. I really question that because as I say my ROM (presumably the same as yours) is very fast and the single most impressive thing about the device!
In your situation - I would seriously consider a hard reset to be sure it was a good installation. If problems persist, I would be tempted to look at a replacement as that slowness is not normal.

That was certainly true with the TyTn, but my Kaiser (unbranded) is superbly fast. Virtually instant switch on screen rotation scrolling (except PIE), so I'm not at all convinced this is the problem in this case.

Hi
Main reason for making a device slow is running apps from the memory card. Especially if they are there in the background. Make sure that everything on your today screen and everything that runs more often is on the main memory. Storage card is good for instlations of everything you use and then close (e.g. SatNav, Camera apps etc.)
Kaiser is running extremly faster than anything else.

Hi - I too am having the same problems described above regarding the slowness. I'm using the default HTC installed rom (1.56.405.5).
Were you able to solve the slowness issue? If so, how?
Thanks.
I'm having an odd slowdown issue. Everything runs incredibly fast pretty much 90% of the time except when I'm syncing. Everything on the device slows to a crawl and it takes forever for activesync to finish its business. This occurs both when I'm syncing via the USB cable and when I'm doing it via bluetooth. Any ideas?
Bellfazar, the exact same thing happens to me too... I'm using Vista btw.
Plus i have a serious slowdown after softreset (so maybe it's software related, don't have time for hardreset), but after a minute or so, its fast again

After a soft reset, the phone has to load everything in memory for the first time.. So accessing the Programs window or the start menu the first time takes a while. Accessing it for the second time, everthing is already loaded into memory and fast again...
Is there not a powertool for WM6 which can help us disabling stuff?
You can use Startup Manager by Baniaczek to disable items that start at warm reboot. Or remove them manually from the WINDOWS\Startup folder
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=262476
And use HTC Task Manager to kill running applications and/or close them when closing an app instead of minimising it...

sometimes since the new kaiser tweak version i can see (batterystatus) that my processor keeps running at 100%. everything slows down. even a soft reset does not help. when i soft reset without my storage card everything is fine but as soon as i insert the card 100%. man this sucks.

Yeah, I can imagine! Especially when it seems you're the only one (or at least the first that complains). I don't mind trying to help you, but you'll have to answer some questions first:
1. What KaiserTweak.exe (time/date of file) and KaiserTweak.xml (time/date of file, or name of zip-file you downloaded) versions did you load?
2. What tweaks did you use after implementing the new version?
Regards,
Nika.
i never said it was the kaiser tweak nor do i think thats the problem. i restored to a backup from a week before and this still (sometimes happens). so you got me. When i figure this out i will let you know.

Try Q-Mobile 1.11 it is the fastest ROM I have ever used.
Right another thing ive noticed tonight...and i would have thought HTC would have solved this but seems like they couldnt care less.
Left my phone on charge at 6pm and went downstairs to watch some TV...anyways i came upstairs at about 12 and turned the phone on....it was in sleep mode like it normally does. Anyways looked at my screen and saw that the internet connection was still alive even though i specified that it should disconn after 1 min of idling. I also found the phone to be extremely sluggish....touchflow slowed right to a crawl. I opened up the the status and looked at the memory and it was down to 23mb!!!...no bloody wonder it wasnt snappy lol. Now this is where it gets interesting because really i had nothing running on the phone...always make sure all tasks are killed off. The only thing that was running was my gmail polling which takes place every hr or so...so dont know if that was causing a massive memory leak.
Im running it with the 1.37 uk stock rom as its a uk spec diamond...i looked through the task manager and couldnt see anything running.
So has anyone found this with the 1.37 rom??..i was going to flash to the new TLR 1.37 rom but just havent had time...has that rom fixed the memory loss.
Dont get me wrong, i still love the device...i restarted the phoen and all was well but over the past few hrs ive been watching the status of the memory and its slowly getting lower and lower. To be honest ive never come across a phone with such a bad case of memory leakage...ive owned most of the SE smartphones...P800, P900, P910i and P990c and i never found them to be as bad as the Diamond. But the good thing about those phones is that SE usually put out a new firmware to sort the memory leakage problems.
So i was just wondereing if anyone found their devices suffering from massive memory leakage....i know its WM thats causing it...
Just to give you an example....i re-started my phone about an hr ago and it was at 50 odd free mb...less than an hr later its at 40.85 mb free...and 72mb are being used...
Hi Spawn,
I've tried every ROM available and none of them fix the memory leak. After some time, a soft reset is necessary to get the TouchFLO 3D 'performance' back. My biggest gripe, is that when returning to the home screen, and watching the hour and minutes 'flop over' the hour part stutters a little bit. The only ROM I've had no stutter with is the Middle East ROM, and even then after some time the memory leak gets worse and it starts stuttering again. *Really* annoys me. Surely it cant be that hard to make that little animation look smooth and fluid.
HTC really need to get off their collective asses and fix this.
In the meantime, thank god for xda-developers.com!
You could try something: turn off Flow and see if you still get a leak.
I loved the look of the interface, but was forever actioning wrong items/ringing wrong people/whatever. I dropped it and went beck to SPB Mobile Shell (which I had been using on my 'good old' P3600i). I have never seen any leak.
I've noticed this too.
If I click on the little task manager icon in the top right corner as soon as the phone is rebooted it displays about 50% roughly. As the day goes on, its up at about 75% - and I have no programs running at all. The only thing I've used through the day is Texting and a bit of Opera.
It seems the phone needs rebooted every day or 2...
I'm also running the UK 1.37 ROM
Hi,
Does Hibernate help reclaim the lost RAM?

Hello,
You know, the memory leak problem exists since Windows Mobile 6.0. I had it with my previous Eten X500+. Unfortunately, it has not been fixed with WM 6.1. This is a microsoft problem, not HTC...

Yep thats what my diamond was doing...it was having a hard time with the clock.
Anyways seems like we are stuck with this memory leak till HTC release a rom which rectifies or wait for someone to cook up a rom which will rectify the memory leak. Only other gripe i have other than the memory leak is the battery but thats not too bad.
Guess ill just have to re-start the phone every so often. I disabled emailing polling as that seemed to cause it to hang a bit ie the connection stays on even though ive told it to disconn after a min of idling.
Hibernate as far as i know doesnt help the situation as my phone last night was in sleep mode.
I have this issue also, and I have to restart the phone once every two days to free up the memory. I think I know where this comes from : TouchFlo3D records every action you make to optimize the use the next time you boot
or not...

Yeh after doing a few more tests, it seems like tfl3d is right resource hog...it just wants to take over everything. Im hoping future rom releases optimises the tfl3d but like you im resorting to restart the phone every other day or else it just becomes unuseable.
Its shocking how bad HTC are with their QC control...surely they could see this being a problem ie tfl3d eating up memory like a rabid wolverine.
Thank god for XDA though, at least ill be happy in the knowledge that someone here will be able to figure out this mem leakage and sort it out fingers crossed.

LOL...well i run vista ultimate on my laptop and its not that bad...M$ and HTC really dont have a clue when it comes to mem leakage...even in WM6 and before it was apparent that memory leakage is a problem..they really need to address the memory leakage problem....i just wish they would do so rather than ignore the problem altogether.
I've changed the clock to the non-flipping one... it seems to make the TouchFlo a bit smoother as it has less 3D to cope with. You certainly notice it after a day when pressing the Home key - its much quicker!
Hello,
I now own my Kaiser for about one year (or a little less). But I'm still not satisfied about the overall speed of the device. I'm not talking about reading videos or playing games, just about "normal" use of the Kaiser.
For exemple, opening the HTC phone application (dial pad) takes around 3 seconds. Then, if I dial a number quickly, it "forget" some buttons I pushed. I need to dial my number slowly for the phone to take each button I push ... This is very frustrating !
Another exemple is going to landscape mode which takes 4 seconds ! And when it is in landscape, my Kaiser is like freezed for about 2 other seconds before I can use it.
A 3rd exemple, when answering calls: my Kaiser rings, I press the green button to answer, but it takes around 2-3 seconds before it does really answer. In the mean time, I sometimes loose my call, and this is really frustrating again !
I know I'm only talking about seconds, but I use my Kaiser a lot in a day, and these seconds become minutes ! And when I need to use my Kaiser quickly, these seconds appear much longer than they really are.
My ROM is the original HTC 6.1 ROM. My Kaiser is as light as possible (no Manilla 2D !), but it does not seem to be enough for my Kaiser to be fast.
I tried some cooked ROMS, but from what I experienced the HTC 6.1 is the faster. I also tweaked my Kaiser with all the informations I could find on this great forum (and KaiserTweak)
I would really enjoy an overclocker utility but it does not exist.
So, about you, are you satisfied with your Kaiser speed ?
Isn't there days where you would throw it against a wall because of these anoying lags ?
Thanks !
If this damn thing eats another microSD card I AM going to throw it against the wall. I'm getting tired of loosing my crap and having to re-do everything.
what about the speed of your ka
iser : is it ok for you ?
No complaints about the "speedyness" of the tilt after flashing to a good ROM. If another one fails I'm sending it back and demanding an upgrade to a Fuze tho.
i haven't had mine for very long but I got a little over-excited in the first few weeks and installed anything i could get my hands on. i just did a hard reset, followed by a soft reset to remove the bloatware, and i've noticed that my phone is a lot faster.
your problems do sound infuriating, have you tried backing up your data and wiping the slate clean?
Dear,
Same problems as yours... Using same rom from HTC !
Very slow phone for each task i need
Boring phone when hang-up or dialing, boring when using tt6 and now tt7 (too slow when driving in little streets, and sometimes truncating voices messages), and more generally, very very slow (and i do not speak about camera).
Sure, this version is really a big bug
Comparing to other kind of phones, even cheaper models runs better (camera better and faster, gps fix faster, gps available even in flight mode.
Usually, when opening keyboard, applications hangs due to the screen rotation, and become available a long time after
Definitively, a real diseapointing device.
I'm now waiting for the renewal of my phone contract to change for something better (sure that is not difficult to find)
Regards,
Laurent
I highly recommend flashing a custom rom.
The rom chef's have done a fantastic job tweaking them to run much faster than the stock roms. Try on and you'll never look back.
I'm currently using the Nov 15'th Hyperdragon Rom and I have virtually no complaints about the speed of the rom for day to day activities. M2D runs very smoothly and is much more friendly to your fingers than any of the stock roms I've used.

Thanks a lot ! i did the hard reset followed by the soft reset , then I restored my data : now my Kaiser goes faster ! thanks again !
I have the same issue, not that the kaiser is really slow, but when I compare it with a Wizard (both have custom roms) the Wizard does things a lot faster, like opening start menu, scrolling isn't laggy, change tabs is fast. No matter what rom I use on my kaiser, I can't get to the use speed of the Wizard. Maybe it is because I install programs on the SD instead of the phone itself?
Nothing to Compare to
I don't have anything to really compare to, but my Kaiser - Bloatware removed - seems to work well. My only real complaint is that ending a call with the touchscreen takes a few seconds, but the red end key ends it pretty quick. If there is a delay on some things, it is far outweighed by the functionality I feel I'm getting from my tilt. I use it as primary pc - email, web, movies, word, excel, etc..
I tell people it is a mini computer with a phone added on as an afterthought. That is why with comes with such a crappy phone interface. I downloaded a new skin and it looks and works excellent.

Call ending speed can be instant. Use Kaiser Tweak / Advanced Config tool to change this.
I noticed a marked improvement since I use some of the SKTools utilities like:
- Optimize! http://s-k-tools.com/index.html?sktools/m_feat.html
- FreeUP RAM Service http://s-k-tools.com/?m_freeuprams.html
- Registry optimization http://s-k-tools.com/?/sktools/m_regopt.html
It has many other features and you can download a trial. It's really worth a try.
dear all,
how can you say that the kaiser isnot slow ?
I use PIE to read this forum, this thread takes 30 to 40 sec to load for 470 kB, while it takes few seconds to dowload bigger files !
I only use pie,tt7 and outlook sync for contacts and appointments.
I also tested 3 roms and tried to tweak some settings, without getting a normal speed.
kaiser is definitively a slow computer with a phone.
basic phones are more responsives than kaiser on many bundled applications.
I do think that kaiser has a lake of something... Maybe some drivers are missing, because if you look at the internal chipset used inside the kaiser, it should very very more powerfull
Call ending speed can be instant. Use Kaiser Tweak / Advanced Config tool to change this.
Please enlighten me, because I hate this. I have to push the button multiples times to disconnect. I have SK Tools as well. It has many good features, unfortunately some of the things it recommends tweaking I have idea what those things are for. I need the cheat sheet for invalid registry entries and values.
I do experience what you describe and I've tried many different ROMs, right now I'm using Garmin.Dk 8 without Manila2d and all the "speed fixes" available.
It's just like that, it has Windows...
But on the other hand, I like that, because it makes it very customizable.
Depends on what you value most.

I had the same issue with dialing numbers. It pissed me off so much I bought an iPhone. I don't have issues with dialing numbers now. I really miss running custom ROMs though.
The iPhone has a lot of other issues, I put up with them because the web browsing experience is better and I can dial without loosing numbers. I wish HTC would get it together, they are very close... I tried a Sprint HTC Touch Pro for a couple of days and couldn't get used to the missing dpad.

He has to keep up because he realizes the other 99% of the WM functionality is missing on his new phone and he'll want to come back.
Same thing here
Yeah I experience exactly the same things with mine. I'm not going out the custom ROM path, since it's a company phone. After having tried all sorts of things, I've kind of just accepted its slowness.
But one thing is for sure. After using first the s710, and the the tytn-ii, I'm 95% sure that my next phone is not going to be a HTC, unless I see some very convincing real life demo of the device.
Ok, first of all I'm very pleased with and happy with the two LEO ROM variants I've used over the last few months (Thanks Itje and NRGZ28), but I noticed a strange thing happening.
After install, hard reset and adding cabs the ROM's run great, but over time their performance (in my opinion) begins to degrade, to a point where I hard reset, and all is well again for a while.
There's no critical error nothing that crashes the phone just a overall slowdown and creeping laggyness.
To me it smack's of something being cached, some finite resource (not RAM) that's not getting cleared?
Has anyone else noticed this, are there any documented suggested fixes for this? Or even a pointer on what / where to search as to date I've found no reason for this?
Richard
I completely agree with you, seems like if I actually use a ROM for a week or more it seems to get slower.
The joys of using Windows-based machines ^^
Even my desktop after a much longer period of time degrades until I reformat
Actually, I noticed this slowing down issue only with Leo ROMs. After 1-2 weeks, it begin to slow down and it actually use always more RAM than previous week...
7 days....great TV show
I noticed this phenomenon too. At first I thought is was due to a cab that I installed, but I dont think its that as now I install a small set of apps right after the initial install.
this is also why people say "wow this rom is as fast as hell much better than the last one" - its not, it simply feels fast because the old one has slowed down.
The big question is why does a soft reset not fix it? that suggests its not a caching thing or a memory leak?
Hi,
I wanted to know if there is any way to run a different OS on this phone that supports all of the hardware.
I love the specs of this phone - and the form factor, however, it doesn't matter which ROM I use, the phone is just so unbearably slow. Even with the light ROMs.
I simply hate Windows Mobile. The processor is not that slow - it should be able to do plenty - but everything takes 3 seconds at least to open. I've missed an inordinate number of phone calls just because the stupid send button takes 10 seconds to respond.
Is there any option at all to forgo a WM ROM and use a different OS entirely?
How can I take advantage of the amazing hardware - but not be dragged down by the software?
HELP!
Moved as not ROM Development.
Try flashing stock then ROM, changing Hard-SPL.. etc.
Never had problem with slow OS unless the ROM is an issue to which is very uncommon..
If it really takes 10 seconds to get the phone to answer a call...
One thing to check is memory -- Do you have a lot of stuff in your calls list or MMS texts? Clear them out.
Which ROMS have you tried? Any 6.1 or 6.5s?
There is no other usable OS now -- Android is getting close but it won't work with all the phone's components

The last ROM I flashed that's exactly what I did - I flashed to a stack ROM - changed the Hard SPL.
The ROM I love - Shifu did a phenomenal job - but after a while - everything just begins to lag...and it's not just this ROM - it's every ROM. After a few weeks - everything just starts to miss a beat and then slowly unravel.
I'm surprised that you've never had any problems with the OS - the consensus is that WM is a generally slow OS - I just thought maybe there's a way to take advantage of the great hardware in the phone without having to use this OS.
Thanks for the advice though.
If you have any other suggestions - they would be much appreciated.

Maybe not 10 seconds - but I have missed plenty of calls because the phone was completely unresponsive.
I do have a LOT of SMS' - maybe that's it. I just flashed to a new ROM (jjblaster3's 6.5) - it's great for now. I hope it stays that way. But they all start off great...you start installing a few programs and then nothing moves.
Thanks for the SMS/call history advice - I'll start clearing out now.
Anything else you can think of would be great.
I went through similar problems. Currently I am using the ROM "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=428261". This was the best ROM that I tested for my Kaiser.
I was not very fan of windows mobile too, because that i installed android at sdcard and recently found a very good application "forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=623792" to streamline the boot process for the android, without having to wait for the windows mobile start and then boot the android. Android is fantastic, but as has already been said not everything works. The GPS and camera are the major problems yet.
Thanks

Thanks for the advice - I'm not going to head down the Android route yet...but I will check out the ROM you suggested. Have you tried any 6.5 ROMs you liked? I'm running jjblaster3 6.5 v2 right now.
Well personally, I like the STAXXX STYLE ROMs...they are 6.5.3...and VERY fast in my opinion.
ROM Suggestions
Thanks for the suggestion, any ROM recommendations would be much appreciated, here is what I'm looking for:
1) A fast ROM
2) No bugs with common things like text messages, bluetooth, WiFi, Internet
3) Good battery life
4) And if possible - 6.5 - but not mandatory
I know a LOT of hard work goes into cooking the ROMs, so I'm not complaining - but I've found that there are always small bugs that are real deal breakers for me.
I've tried:
1) AthineOS Manila Edition
Text issues, backlight issues
2) Shifu (3.2)
Text issues, screen rotation issues, wifi issues, phone got stuck a lot towards the end (had to soft reset twice a day at times)
3) Jjblaster3 v2
Battery life (very poor - need to charge twice a day) - because there is no easy way to switch between 3G and GPRS (any quick fix for this?)

I have actually already downloaded that one - so as soon as my battery is more than 50% - I'll flash.
Thanks!
Do you know of anything to look out for bug-wise?
