Tried searching for this but I can't figure out what to search for to get the results I want. Is there a way to alter your settings so that clicking the X in the upper right corner of a program closes it instead of minimizing it? Going through the Task Manager every time is a huge pain. I think there may be an option under the X menu on the home screen, but the ROM I'm using removed that X, so...help? I'm positive this has been asked before but I can't seem to find it anywhere (especially since "x" gets filtered out of searches).
Take a look at the HTC Task Manager, it has that option
Tap and hold down should close the app. I find this sometimes isn't reliable though - especially with WM Mediaplayer and on some occasions it only minimises the app. On other situations holding down the 'x' wont do anything and it has to be released in order to minimise the app. This is with the stock HTC WM 6.1 ROM listed in my sig.
Yep, that worked I think the ROM I downloaded didn't have HTC TM, so installing that let me do exactly what I wanted.
Use wktask, best "x" program
I prefer Quickmenu to wktask. It is one of my favourite apps and it gives you a Windows desktop type cascading menu, allows you to switch bluetooth etc etc etc lots of features and it's free.

Hi all. I am on the hunt for a decent Task Switcher app that will work with WM6.
I used to use Wisbar Lite and loved it but it looks yuck on WM6 as it forces the older (WM5 Close Icon)
What I need is Something that I can launch with a button and will show all the running apps in a pop up window and allow me to switches between them by tapping on an application icon in said pop up window.
And it must not change or add anything to the start bar.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Jules
pBar
have you tried the pBar application that is around on the forums? it's freeware and was based on the old wisbar. seems to work well, but i don't think i am using a full wm6...just the beta ish...or wm5 heavily skinned wm6....
do a search and you're bound to find it...

I'm running a PDAviet WM6, it has this in it's ROM. Tap and hold upper-right corner.
I love it when I can answer my own questions
After searching and using a bunch off apps and not having any luck I just tried Small Menu and It works 100% in WM6.
Meets all my requirements
More news or problems as I find them
Jules
gspocket magic
best app that does all you want
Thanks for the replies.
Vilem. please can you elaborate on that?
I am using Davit ver 3 and have not seen this app.
Sandrobber. Thanks for the file, I have tried the app before but it doesn't match or look good on the stock WM6 start bar. am I missing a setting or something?
So far SmallmenuPlus is the winner for me.
Jules
I have to say, people I know that have been running Crossbow for a few months, have found SmallMenuPlus to be great.
On an unrelated note, I've run SmallMenu pretty much since I got my first WinMob phone, and can highly recommend it. It's not perfect, but it's very useful.
PocketMagic is also a very worth (free) contender.
I don't use Wisbar (resource usage....) so can't comment.

Does anyone know a way to exclude some applications (activesync and phone) from smallmenuplus task list?
Killing the phone process during a conversation or closing activesync during a pc sync can be really dangerous/disappointing.
No, I don't think you can, hence my "It's not perfect"
Try writing to the author, he's still active, although the app only seems to get minor updates these days.

I've been using Dinar HandySwitcher 2.5 from DinarSoft for a good while now. It has the decided advantage that you can also remove the application from memory, or all applications from memory, right from the main screen. Most times the only way to clear applications is through the start/settings/systems /memory route or a hard power down.
It's not free but it is cheap, easy and effective. Don't know if it runs on W6.
Trying it now.
Works fine in WM6.
Thanks
pocket magic
you can chenge the pictures of the start bar in pocket magis but it takes some enginutity and time. your have to edit the bitmap. Play aroung with it enough and I'm sure you can make it even look loke a vista button

@ZaJules,
Which taskswitcher did you settle with in the end for WM6?
Hadn't seen this thread, thanks for bumping it up . So I'm trying SmallMenuPlus and this seems like a really nice (and fast) replacement for Wisbar Lite. The one thing I miss though is there is no soft reset in the menu. I like having that ability to do a soft reset via the menu due to the case I have doesn't have easy access to the reset hole on the side. Anyone know how to add this?
Also, does SmallMenuPlus not close apps when you press the X? Does it just put them in background? Can that be configured?
SKmenu
Skmenu is the one for me. Its not free(for the cascading menu part, which can be deactivated! ), but the taskbar switching works 100% with the demo. I have always used it, its very light, and its accessible 100% of the time= very quick(response speed is the issue i have with the rest of the apps mentioned). Although it doesnt come preconfigured setting it up takes less than a minute, and its easy enough for any level user.
The best solution for me. I also use an Alt-tab application mapped to a hardware button for easy access, like when driving etc...
about taskswicher
sry my poor english
Since 2004 and IPAQ6340 until today wizard/universal/hermes WM6 I have used HaaliTS TaskSwicher-2002.
Lives silently in upper left corner, shows additionally free battery and memory.
Dont needs install, copy exe, make shortcut, all )
Perfect for me and my friends (~25-30 units).
Have tested all here overmentioned progs, but find it best. Small footprint, etc.
regards
And what about this little tool??

BTW: I´m using ilauncher and you can put taskmanager to button. Works perfekt in every WM6

Exactly what I needed!
Today i discovered something weird. Normally i always start the program list from start -> programs. When i scroll through the list it reacts really slow. Today i started the program menu from the HTC Home starter menu. That's the icon right next to the weather icon. When i start the program menu that way scrolling goes really smooth.
Is there someone who can figure this out?
Wow I can confirm that. Really weird.
Always thought that this had to do with the lack of graphic drivers...
***Prays that there's a hidden driver that acts when things are loaded from the Launcher tab***
I also tested and it's true. I think it's a different application, one that caches the icons at start, but still...
Yes! Finaly something positive about TyTN2. Works for me, too. Great find, BenchMarc.
Anyone has got an idea how to map this to Start->Programs ?
Just done it on my (stock rom) Vario 3, that is really wierd, and theres nothing in taks manager to suggest its a different program though?

It IS a different program.
Try this:
1. Start (HTC) Programs from HTC HomePlugin
2. Start (Windows Mobile) Programs from Start->Programs
3. Now when you minimize (Windows Mobile) Programs by tapping [X] (HTC) Programs will still be underneath it. This wouldn't happen if they were the same application.
The difference I noticed is that one seems to have touchflow on it - the other doesnt.

I have touchflow with both on my Vario 3.
By the pause that occurs before it launches it appears to be pre-caching the icons. Any way to link directly to this program, so I can map it to a button?
Surur
I found it, htchome launches a different program named folderview.exe.
You can find it in your windows dir.
yeah, it's a different app!
(if you open programs from htc home and you go into the games dir there's an X button to close and not an OK)
anyway, do u guys know why is that touchflo scrolling in the "programs" app is not like in a different app? i mean.. for example in contacts, or messages its smooth and its similar to iphone. but on the programs screen its not that realistic. for me, its scrolling almost 2 times faster than i drag my finger.
is there any way I can change the star menu programs folder to the folderview.exe

It would one of the best thing in Kaiser in my opinion...
Well I guess I'm risking my head being a newbie making a new thread but I've searched and havn't found any talking about this - or maybe I just havn't understood what was said between the lines - you pros can be very difficult to understand sometimes - please don't kill me
I pushed my windows start button and selected "programs" using my dpad and in "Programs" I was using the touchflo function and it was very laggy.
In the HTC home plugin I still have the standard icon for programs - next to the Comm manager - and when I enter "programs" this way I have no scroll lag at all.
Is this the same you get ? (Have anyone tried having PIE as an icon in HTC Homeplugin?)
This has been asked/noticed before.
The home plugin actually launches another program.
Thats why theres a different in "speed"

Htc home launches another program called folderview.exe.
Hi folks,
I have gathered a few questions you might be able to help me with.
Using: O2 XDA Diamond, Olinex 2.4 unsigned, Radio 1.09.25.23, Panosha Simple 1.1, the usual tweaks
1)
GSen. It might be useful to some, but I just don't need this flipping anytime I move the device. I renamed the gsen.exe to prevent it from being loaded on startup. This works, but I get a nasty error message, of course. That doesn't bother me, but I'd still like to know if there's a more elegant solution to this, like a registry entry disabling GSen altogether.
2)
Is there a way to make pressing the little "cross" button (top right corner in most apps) close applications instead of minimizing it? To finally kill a program I have to use the task manager. Any idea how to add a little more power to this button?
3)
About composing messages: Entering a name in a new message used to make the corresponding contact entries popup in formerly used ROMs. That's no more. I now have to open the adress book, choose a contact and select "Send Text Message". How can I get the lost feature back?
Regards,
ziphi
Not sure about 1 & 3, but for 2 unless it's been altered in the ROM your using, goto Start>Settings>System>Task Manager>Button, you can change the action the small cross does.
Thanks,
but this seems to have been changed in Panoshas ROM, there's no "task manager" option in the settings.
Anyone else got an idea?
Managed to solve problem No. 1)
Deleted shortcut file for GSen in /windows/startup/
Problem No. 3 is what disturbs me the most, now. Any ideas?
I encountered a problem with my HTC Tilt today. I was playing around deciding if I like it more with or without touchflo running, and later in the day I installed that Task Manager 3.1 program (which seems very handy BTW) and that is when I noticed that when I am in the "programs" or "settings" windows, the way to scroll by dragging the screen has changed. Before, I would just click anywhere and drag with the stylus and it would scroll. Now, I have to like tap and drag it, and it'll continue scrolling non-stop until I tap on the screen again. The same thing happens in internet explorer. Other programs such as Opera browser is unaffected.
The interesting thing is that drag-scrolling with my finger has improved dramatically, and works great, but not with the stylus.
Can anyone help me get it back to the way it was before?
I'm a bit noobie to these gadgets, but I'll catch on.
edit: the scrolling with the stylus works fine if you drag the scroll bar.
This phone is awesome, but the one complaint I do have is that the phone speaker volume isn't very loud... it needs more ooomph.

i'm not certain if the installation of Task Manager 3.1 would have had adverse affects on the way that drag scrolling works...
for starters, you should know that some applications like opera mobile 8.65 and opera mobile 9.5 betas as well as resco explorer and lots more applications implement THEIR OWN drag scrolling logic.
next, you should know that HTC's touchflo, from the day it was introduced (with the HTC Touch) all the way up to the latest incarnations of TF2D (manila2d) and TF3D, is capable of "hooking" in to the Windows Mobile interface elements (scroll areas, etc) to provide drag scrolling behavior. however, it is nowhere near as good as the custom drag scrolling logic implemented in the applications mentioned in the previous paragraph.
finally, you should know that if you have TF2D (manila2d), there are TWO ways to get to your Programs window. Start->Programs will launch the Windows Mobile native program browser (where the cumbersome "hooked" touchflo behavior works) while launching the Programs listing by pressing the "All Programs" softkey from the Programs Tab will launch a custom program browser that looks and feels EXACTLY like the native Windows Mobile program browser. In the latter case, you will notice much much better drag scrolling.
i think the HTC uses the same approach as mentioned above for the Settings window.
make sure you are not getting confused by the above mentioned differences in your debugging and assessments.
another thing to check would be whether or not you altered the touchflo sensitivity parameters (try KaiserTweak to mess with those settings).
