Connection with PC problems - Touch Diamond, MDA Compact IV General

Hello, I have 2 con. problems with my Diamond. First, if I choose Diamond to act like USB disc. If I paste any file to that "diamond" flash disc, it sometimes writes me something like: cannot copy file, too deep ... And if this error doesen´t appear, I cant use diamond this way becouse of any file I paste on Diamond will couse lag of that file in windows, and it never (if I copy somethink) show me window with progress. Any idea what to do? And the second problem is, that if I disconnect Diamond from PC (ActiveSync mode), diamond become very slow, especially scrooling menu Programs (in WM, not TouchFlo) so I must restart it. I am very sad about this, maybe bad ROM? I will try new one, but I think this won´t help me.

another program besides activesync

is there another program that will do what activsync does no matter what i do i cannot get it to work on my winxp machine
Does your pc see the device when you plug it in?
Try disabling firewall temporarily to see if that allows it to see it?
Try switching the advanced networking functionality off in usb-to-pc, in settings, connections tab.
yes it see the deivce it does work all besides when i try and run a exe file to install it says error cannot install it home this makes since also turned off firewall
AL
I second the idea to disable advanced network functionality... in case you missed it:
Settings => Connections => USB to PC => *deselect* the "Enable advanced network functionality" checkbox
guys i must be blind casue i do not see that are we talking on my activsync screen i am using 4.5 of activsync
or my winxp
either place i do not see it
AL
ok guys i figured out what you mean let me splain a little better it sync fine and i can move files back and fourth fine
but when i try to run a exe or cab file on my winxp machine it gives me a error and will not install it on my phone but i dug out my laptop and installed sync on it and it will work just a pain every time to get it out and use it
so i did not know what to try next it has too be something on my winxp
and thought maybe somebody else had this problem ans new how to fix it ...
AL
copy exe or cab files to your device and than try installing them
the cab files on the phone always too but not exe cause it is not made to do that it they are made to run on windows xp or vista
it is a realy weard problem i am haveing sure whish i could figure it out ...
AL
If the exe really is to be run on oc, then run it, then plug device in and then in activesync on the pc, check the add/remove programs menu item to see if the app is there.
If not then as previously said, copy it across to the device and run it there.
i guess i am not explaining myself right
lets go this way say i have a exe that is made for wm6 and it is on my
laptop with sync hooked up and the phone just setting there if i run that exe it install it and a screen opens up and says check your device when i look at my device it his asking me where to install it
ok now if this same exe was on my winxp and sync up it will not work it gives me a a error and it never shows up on my phone like it would on my laptop and my comp at work
I hope this makes more since AL
and thanks for trying to help me figure this out

New tilt with WM6.1

I recently called in a warranty for my tilt due to a broken screen. They shipped a new one, and low and behold it had 6.1. I didn't think I could mess up my phone by installing a theme .cab that was made for a different version of windows, but I did. It rebooted five to six times, and after that it would either stay turned off or on. When it was on, the touch screen was unresponsive, as well as the hardware keys. I called the insurance and they said they might have sent a defective phone [didn't say anything about the .cab file hah], and now I'm back where I started.
I'm scared if I install old .cab files I will have the same situation.
Will the KaiserTweak.exe still work well with WM6.1?
This might be a little far fetch to hope for, but will this theme work for the tilt: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=366521
If not, am I able to use old themes for the diamond without being stuck in reboot?
Another problem I've found is I'm unable to edit the windows of my phone folder on my computer. I'm wanting to do some heavy changes, and it's easier to navigate on my computer. The error message I get when I try to copy/paste clock images is that I don't have permission to edit the files. Is there a fix for this?
I ran into the same problem as you at first. I ended up using the HTC Home Customizer to set any changes theme wise and that did the trick. As for the Kaiser Tweak, it does work with 6.1 and I have used it quite a bit to unlock some of the limitations of the Tilt. Another option would be to use the Advanced Configuration Tool, from Julien Schapman. It seems to work pretty good too and works well with 6.1. For the locked file problem, I have not run into it much, you could try and use MyMobiler to remote to your phone so you can use the mouse to move things around. Hopefully that helps.
I found the black theme I was looking for here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=364541
I still have the "cannot copy "'HH_HOME_0':Access is denied. Be certain that there is enough free storage memory, that the destination is not write protected, and that the file is not currently in use" As well as unable to edit it from my computer.
It's not in use because I disable the HTC home plug in, so it's not showing up on the today screen.
Same deal, i had 6.1 on the new one, and it took some doing to get hardspl to take on the phone. Also the bloatware just kept coming back no matter what i did. The window on the bloatware reset is like 1 second now w/ 6.1. It loads it so fast.

System32 folder opens every time I plugin my Diamond...

Hello all,
I have a laptop with Vista. Every time I connect or disconnect my Diamond, an Explorer windows opens showing the contents of c:\windows\system32.
It was not always so; this behaviour started suddenly and I find it highly unpleasant.
Does anyone have a clue how I can stop this?
I have the same problem but with a different folder. I have it on my Diamond and had it also on my XDA Trion. I think it is a problem with my pc because I sync with two pc's and it only does this with one of them.... Also, I don't think it is a Vista problem because my faulty pc is XP.
I hope someone can help because it is a pain to keep closing down the folder....
Hi guys,
Was having the same problem with the System32 folder which was highly annoying. Found the solution on another site, the fix is a registry hack for the PC:
Looking at "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\AutoStartOnConnect" and see a default key that has no value : put a space in the value.
For those who have the same problem unplugging the device, it is the key "\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\AutoStartOnDisconnect"
Just tested on works on my machine. Hope this helps
Works brilliantly, thanks!
Thanks fxcoupeman83, you're a genius!

Activate Activesync via autorun using the SD card

My problem is that my X1 has a broken screen and I cannot see squat. Therefore no possibility of navigating through menus, confirming any prompts, etc.
I would like to backup my pictures and videos from the internal memory before sending the phone for repair. However, when I plug-in the X1 to my PC, I can only see the SD card. i.e. ActiveSync is not running on the X1.
I think that if ActiveSync would run I would be able to connect to my PC and attempt at backing up the pictures that are in the internal memory.
Is there any way to activate the Activesync on the X1 via the SD card slot using some sort of autorun CAB that does not require and user intervention (remember my X1 screen is broken)?
Thx
you could attempt you use the physical keys on the X1 to activate it????
you've got a windows key on the keyboard so you could try that if you can remember what you had on your programs screen etc but that seems impossible otherwise i dont think there is a way - if the phone just has a problem where the screen ribbon has come out or something similar the repairers shouldnt hard reset it so - but you would need activesync in order to install a cab too unless you put it on the sd card and attempty to navigate blind
I heard that there is a way to autoinstall a cab file from SD card if it is in the root directory, or something. This is what I am after.

[SOLVED] - get pim.vol out with dead screen and in storage mode

Hi!
I need any ideas about how to approach problem from subj.
I got Diamond with screen physically destroyed, but phone booting up and can make/receive calls ok. All I need is get pim.vol out to restore all contacts from it. Biggest problem is that phone was set into StorageMode (Cardreader) by default, so it is not even asking when plugged in to PC.
Any ideas on how to make it into ActiveSync mode w/o hard reset and losing all contacts?
[edit]
More I think about it now, I probably can create 2577 (or whatever number works on Diamond??) folder on storage card and put autorun.exe (MortScript probably) into it which will enable ActiveSync. Can someone with Diamond handy find out which values in registry do that?
Thanks!
You could use MyMobiler to access it using PC, but it needs active sync :S
All the ideas I could have need to access the main memory.
Hi
I wrote a program which copies pim.vol to the root of the Internal Storage.
Simply extract the zip after connecting the Diamond (make sure it is unpacked with folders!) and disconnect the ppc. Wait a while, then connect again. You should be able to get pim.vol to your computer.
Its worked!
Thank you so much, kosherpig!
Its worked and I got all stuff restored! Awesome!
Extract data from device w/ dead screen?
I'm not really concerned about anything but the pictures and videos which were stored in device memory. (When it started acting flaky I immediately copied my SD card but I couldn't get it to mount properly before the screen went totally black).
So, the device is not mounting when I plug it in but it is sending/receiving phone calls.
Can I write a script that would allow me to "force" it to mount so I can see the device's internal memory?
kosherpig,
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! with the use of those 2 zip files, i was able to retrieve my pim.vol file from my broken diamond. you dont know how long and despondent i was over the thought of not being able to retrieve all my contacts...this def teaches me a lesson to backup my address book religiously. thank you again!
Could you not use the start key & d-pad to toggle to activesync for USB mode in settings & then using mymobiler you would have full control of your Diamond via connected PC !

Hello, I've got the similar problem as the orignal poster.
My phone is HTC Touch HD running WM6.1
The touch screen became unresponsive to touch (tried a bunch of stuff to fix it), but showing everything just fine.
So I settled with that fact that it's going to the trash bin and decided to figure a way of getting my contacts out.
The device is set to run in Storage Mode upon connection to PC, meaning it can't Active Sync.
I can't see any Pim.vol in several browsers and managers, from regultar win explorer to total commander. It shows Album.vol file tho.
I've copied the files provided and everything would be fine.. but the phone asked for confirmation if I want to allow running that programm. I would have pressed YES, but... I can't.
Is there any sane way to bypass that confirmation? Thanks in advance.
Hey kosherpig,
I copied the Zip files and extracted them in the root of storage card of my WM6.1 ASUS p750. disconnected the USB connection and connected again, No hopes for the PIM.VOL.
Did I missed something in this...I am in Serious Trouble as My 7 years ongoing contacts are on stack with this Dead screen phone..
Please Help..
