This is the most appropriate location I could find to post this, as I have three HTC devices (8525, TyTN 2, and Advantage) so I thought I would start here.
Issue:
I can no longer connect to my Slingbox on my home network when using my MediaNet (wap.cingular) connection on the TyTN 2 or the Advantage.
Error Message: Cannot connect using these settings. But email and web work from the MediaNet settings, so I am fairly certain the configuration is correct.
Facts:
- The connection works over Wifi on either HTC device, so I know my Slingplayer Mobile settings (Finder ID, etc.) are correct.
- The connection works using a Verzion Motorola Q. My corporate VPN connection also does not work with AT&T, but does on the Q through Verzion.
Conclusion:
AT&T has (or did) make changes to the proxy used which prevents services running on certain ports from working correctly.
Question:
Is anyone else having problems connecting to their Slingbox? If you can connect, what settings are you using?
Additionally, could someone please explain the differences between the wap.cingular and isp.cingular settings? Do you have to use isp.cingular to get VPN and other advanced services to work? If so, what is the minimum data plan you must subscribe to with AT&T to be able to do so?
Thanks in advance,
Rob
I cant say why you are having issues. My Slingbox connection works fine (actually much better than fine) via my Kaiser on AT&T with MediaNet. It works better than it ever did with my 8525. I do notice that I do have 2 separate Connections, one for MEdiaNet and the other called "My ISP" which both point to the same wap.cingular APN. Not sure why I have 2, but everything works fine. The MediaNet one is "hidden" and I can't change it. The My ISP one is visible, but I don't want to delete it since everything seems to work fine. It just switches between them (albeit unnecessarily) to make things work when needed.
Furthermore, I am using wap.cingular exclusively. If you do connect to a VPN, you must use isp.cingular. The normal MediaMax, MediaNet and smartphone plans give you wap.cingular. The PDA plans give you isp.cingular. Blackberry plans may give you neither (they go to blackberry.net).
Thanks
Can I ask what port # you are using for your Slingbox? I am using 5001 for one of mine. Did you have to make a rule entry in your router or firewall? I am just trying to determine why suddenly I cannot connect. I am going to pop my SIM card back into my 8525 when I get home and check it again. The last time I tried it on the 8525 it worked. The trouble is, there aren't a lot of changes to make. it's pretty much wap.cingular and the password.
Thanks, and if you think of anything else, please let me know.
Rob
my slingbox works just fine on att. WHen i had the isp.cingular it did not. i had to change it to wap.cingular to get it to work.
Hmmm, don't know th eport off hand, but I want to say i'm justusing the default.
Did you upgrade to the new Slingbox firmware the past couple of days?
I did and could not connect. I called Slingmedia and they told me they had some issus with the new firmware and UpnP settngs in some routers.
I had to go into the Slingbox settings on the desktop PC and manually open the port in the router. If you call them they will take you step by sep
I had the same problem it took me 10 hrs to finally find the answer. It has nothing to do with your port your finder ID at all. like the a previous stated you need to use a different connection setting to use slingbox. Use or create the my isp connection. the only difference is one use proxy settings and one does not. to be honest i just deleted the media net profile and used my isp exclusively. the only problem is medianet keeps showing up in my connection settings. the medianet setting can also screw with push email retrieval
Thanks so much NJXBEAN! I could NOT get Slingplayer to connect until I made that change in the modem settings. It works great now!

Proxy was blocking me...
After experimenting with mine further, I was FINALLY able to connect by unchecking the "use proxy server" setting on my unlocked Kaiser. I wonder if the AT&T "Tilt" build of the OS will even allow this?
AT&T Tilt and Slingbox
Right out of the box, Slingplayer worked on my Tilt. I made no changes to the proxy settings.
I have the media net unlimited plan.
It could be a firewall issue. If the connection you have is listed as "Connects to the Internet" it'll block some ports. If you have Connects to Work, it'll open all ports.
I just just want to say that you guys are great! I had a problem with sling, researched on it here, and found the problem without asking..People, u gotta love it!!!!!!

have you found a fix, i have the x7500 and my slingbox worked fine at first then after a couple of months it just stopped and i could not receive email either, i found a workaround for the email but i have not found a work around for the slingbox.
P.S. i recored myself talking to an at&t rep you should listen to what he says

Found a Fix
It cannot connect to isp.cingular, you need to ADD wap.cingular apn to your network settings.

If you just make your default connection Media Net it's already going to be set for wap.cingular
isp.cingular is the default only if you have it set to use ATT ISP as your connection.
Wow, I want slingbox now. I didn't even think of it working on my Tilt....is the data transfer extreme????????
I have brought to life an old 2i and decided to set everything up.
however i cannot seem to get the internet (MSN) to work on o2 payg, i think its because i cant get msn to connect via my work connections as my isp doesnt have any settings for gateway proxy. is there any workaround for this?
Can you guys please help me connect to the internet. I called T-mobile USA to setup the unlimited browsing and email (5.99) they help me set it up (1Hr+). It connects quickly but none of the programs (opera, HTC home weather plugin, PIE {pocket IE}) can access its internet, I tried using opera mini also. I know theres a difference between wep and wap (full internet) but $25+ a month is not worth it. I know people have a workaround I just don't know how to do it. If someone would have an install cab that would be the best, but I will try everything. Thanks in advance.
Bump.......
you need the total internet 19.99 for it to work the best.
You probably need to just enable the proxy [216.155.165.50] and you'll be good to go.

I read all that I still cant connect, It connected but if you open any browser it says you don't have permission to visit this site. T-mobile gave up helping me after an hour with 3 different people each. I don't want the $20 to just check email and weather thanks aarons6. I have proxy set up, it connect to t-mo and its connected but none of the programs work. Does anyone have the same exact problem.
T-Zones Pro
have you tried T-Zones Pro?? i have t-mobile also, and i havent signed up for this yet, but i will try. its not $25, its only 9.99, but from the t-mobile website, it states the following:
T-Zones Pro Unlimited t-zones for $4.99 includes unlimited Internet e-mail and Mobile Web content. Unlimited t-zones Pro for $9.99 includes unlimited access to corporate e-mail, Internet e-mail, and Mobile Web content--all right from your phone, any time, anywhere!
if it works or doesnt, ill post an update.
it has to do with your ports, and or the proxy, try to put the proxy ip in all the fields and the http one should have 8080 instead of 80 the other ports in the other fields leave them at default.
(in the network managment)
make sure that on the connection tab both the internet and the "private network" use the same connection that both have the proxy ip
or else you might have issues.
you might have to reinstall mini opera to work, but PIE should work regardless
t-mobile tzones pro
hey where did you find the tzones pro on the website. I can't find it anywhere.
this was when i just got the tilt, what was happening was they weren't actually activating t-zones,
well they were but on a different phone (family plan).
Make sure they activated t-zones on your line by putting your sim in a different phone to see it it works
and don't tell them you have a PDA when getting it they just **** around with you pretending,
they want you to buy the $20, tell them you have a nokia.
you don't need pro 9.99 you can use the 5.99 (its the same thing, they just like charging more)
I have the unlimited on my phone (Kaiser), but have the $5.99 T-Zones on my wifes phone (T-Mobile Shadow), and I've got it setup to work with Internet and even sync with exchange.
Here's kind of how I have it setup for her Shadow:
T-Mobile Data
Access Point: wap.voicestream.com
Connects to Internet
Proxy: 216.155.165.50 Port 8080
Use OpenDNS servers for DNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Hope this helps?
T.
Tasi has given you the right settings. I use these exact settings on my hermes that I run on Tmobile tzones 5.99 plan. i have no issues. I run my kaiser on att..it is paid by work.
nope

Nope. I cannot make it work. I have stock HTC ROM (3.02.405.0 (Radio 1.58.26.20) original WWE found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365068). It is Tilt, but I flashed the originl ATT ROM (so the phone is CID and SIM unlocked). I changed all the setting (proxy, DNS, ports, etc.) It worked once and I was able to access any websites. Now it stopped working again and I get the "". Wow, and now it works again. But not the Messenger. wow, it does not work again. without a change, just new log in. any ideas?
My company disabled activesync so in order to keep my phone i am forced to use blackberry connect with my kaiser. A few questions.
I changed my data plan from medianet to the blackberry enterprise plan. I have noticed that my slingbox no longer works. DO i need to change my data settings? My browser however works fine but seems slower since the switch. i currently use wap.cingular. any other things i need to know regarding using blackberry connect with my Kaiser? Thanks!
A few things...
run the latest version (i believe it's 103)
disable the proxy connection
the phone establishes a connection to blackberry for the blackberry service and media.net for the internet - recommend you use a rom image that allows for HSPDA and two simeltaneous connections (6.1 Rom). Otherwise you will constantly get messages telling you blackberry connection blocked when using the internet.
Use activesync to sync your contacts with your pc - blackberry connect does not sync the extended fields in outlook
go into the carrier settings and set your blackberry to remove deleted messages from blackberry and server - unless you want to read the same messages multiple times
hopefully you don't have a requirement for a mandatory password

thanks for the info. Im using the Hyperdragon 6.1 rom so it should allow for 2 simultaneous connections.
How do i disable the proxy connection? also what do you mean by a requirement for a mandatory password? Thanks again!

Is this the latest trend? I just got an email from my job saying that they were cutting off active sync and that I should "Explore alternative mobile messaging platforms".

start, settings, connections, connections, manage existing connections, proxy, unclick this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet. (or use the remove transparent proxy cab)
the blackberry enterprise server can enforce a password policy on your tilt....which would require that you unlock your phone with a password every time you want to use it.
Also, it's a good idea to get the latest htc task manager. The older version has a bug when unlocking in landscape with blackberry connect.
so i noticed that once i switched to the blackberry enterprise plan, i could no longer tether with my phone. i tried to switch to the blackberry enterprise plus tethering plan, however they claimed they could not attach this plan to my account and therefore could not tether. I need the enterprise plan to connect to corp email. Anyone able to tether with the tilt and a blackberry enterprise data plan?
still looking for an answer. is anyone able to tether with a blackberry enterprise + tethering data plan?
I installed BB Connect .106 onto my HTC FUZE and actually got it working, new PIN, IP address, everything seemed fine.
BUT. . .
I found that I could not connect to the internet or get emails, even though the connection settings clearly showed me as being connected to Media Net.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so, is there a workable solution? FWIW, I do acually have a Blackberry plan (BIS) in use with my Bold, but I would like to have the option to switch between the devices as I wish.a
What, no one??? No one at all???
I am using about the same config as you, but all is working fine here. Keep in mind:
1. You have to set up a correct connection (APN) for all internet traffic but BBC (which uses its own non-configurable APN)
2. When you click on an internet link in a Blackberry message, your browser tries to use the BBC set APN to get the page.
3. When you browse to an URL in IE or Opera your browser tries to use the (self set) internet conection APN.
Maybe this helps you solve your problem.
Thanks for the reply. When I have more time to experiment I'll check it out.
