How to record calls on Tilt? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Is there any way to use the recorder feature on my Tilt to record my phone conversations? I enjoyed being able to do this with just a few menu clicks on my old and simple Nokia 6102i because I get specs hurled at me from clients and it saves my hide.
Before I go searching, maybe you can just tell me if there is such functionality on the Tilt?
Thanks,
Eljay

You have to use a 3rd party application to do so. Resco Recorder does what you need.

Ok, thanks. I'll check that out.
But... we're saying it can't be done natively on a stock phone from AT&T, right?

No, it can't.

without the speaker on, i doubt that even a 3rd party app can do it. tried it once before quickly and didnt work.

our Kaiser's microphone does not have access to the voice stream. You can use Resco recorder as mentioned above, but you will have to use speaker phone. The quality will be poor.

No way to record calls - even with additional software it can't be done with any quality? Yikes. I might be returning this Tilt if I find another PDA that can do this (and that has a better speaker phone). Can anyone suggest a different good PDA from AT&T?
I used those features a lot on my cheap simple Nokia flip phone. It's funny to me now to think back when associates bragged to me about their Tilts and ridiculed my little flip phone when the whole time it actually had a few important features that theirs lacked.

Yeah, it sucks that there's no way to do it, I did this on my Palm Treo and it was great being able to refer back to conversations.

Yeah maybe its because I'm a young whipper-snapper, but recording calls is not that important of a feature that I would say the Nokia dumbphone is better than the Kaiser.

Palm Treo 680 or Centro + CallRec = awesome record conversation.

Most PPC's can't, some Smartphones can, Treos & Centros can

Even though the Kaiser is obviously far superior as a PDA, there ARE phone features that are important to some that are missing in the Kaiser, as well as in most other Windows PPC's.

I didn't say it was a better phone overall, just that some associates held an air of superiority belittling my using a simpler phone. They scoffed that their Tilt did everything my Nokia did and a lot more. But in actuality, the Tilt lacks some very useful features the dumbphone had.
I like the PDA and connectivity aspects of the Tilt and even enjoy the Tilt feature, and I have to stay with a PDA, but I may have to reselect another that also has call recording capability along with a quality speakerphone. Even my Nokia dumbphone had a better speakerphone.

Kaiser - Built In VOIP client?

I recently had the chance to play with the Nokia E61i and the built in VOIP client is brilliant. It allows you to use internal speaker, speaker phone and bluetooth with VOIP calls.
I had a Pocket PC before HTC Titan, but unfortunately had to sell it because I am traveling a lot now. I will primarly use my device in South America where the WCDMA band is different. I am thinking about getting the Nokia E90 or the HTC Kaiser, but must make sure the Kaiser will have built in VOIP client. Can someone confirm? Thanks
Even knowing there are many VOIP applications for Windows Mobile, I tried many with the HTC Titan and only ONE worked ok, but the problem was it only worked trough the speaker phone which was very annoying and not convenient.
I understand voip should be included in WM6.
IE : the integrated phone application can do voip.
Tried it with WM6 and voipbuster on my HTC Wizard and it's working although the sound is not so good sometimes because of the Wizard weak processor (I think).

I have already asked that question some time ago - see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=322377 - and it turned out there is no VoIP support in Kaiser by default. I haven't seen any traces of VoIP in Kaiser I've played with two days ago. And finally, take a look into official Kaiser product sheets - they don't mention VoIP at all, while it's a good feature to shout about.
So basically, there is no VoIP support in Kaiser. However, installing it as an add-on from cab files might have a chance to work, but someone with real Kaiser with hands would need to test it and let us know.
That is really sad. I guess I am going to have to go with the Nokia E90 until a Windows Mobile device has a built in VOIP client.

VOIP is easily installed by YOU.
There's no reason to not get a kaiser because it doesn't have this if you are a member of these forums.

I have Kaiser now, I've installed VOIP Drivers.cab and MajikVOIP.cab. Installs all components correctly, logs into SIP account, makes a call, but... sound comes out of external speaker, instead of internal earpiece!
Did you manage to make it work properly and if yes - which cabs exactly did you install? Thanks.
im keen to find out also! I thought that you could only access voip using cooked roms.
There are a number of WM5 VoIP endpoints available.... however I'm not entirely sure about WM6 yet. I work in VoIP, and its on my list of things the check now that i have my shiny new TyTN II sat infront of me!
I'll keep you all updated with my findings.
Mind you.. i must check tmobiles policy on VoIP, I had a sneaky feeling they are blocking necessary ports...
managing your voip client?
for those with Voip enabled and working, can you tell me how the voip client determines which connection to use, ie wifi or using the data plan?
I have installed Fring and it works well. Is this different than the other voip programs discussed above?
from what i understand, Fring is a stand alone app, where as the voip i am looking at is fully integrated into the phone and uses the standard dialer, hence my previous question about how the Voip determines which connection to use? And if that is automatic? ie. if wifi is available will it just connect via wifi and if wifi isnt available will it then revert automatically to using the data plan to make the voip call.
Not that this helps with the Kaiser, but according to HP, the new iPaq BM series should have the VoIP client enabled by default; in fact, as far as I'm aware, it's the only device announced with it enabled.
Hi,
I'm new to the PDA and WM phone world, and i have a quick question. If there was a voip program of sorts for a phone like this, would that mean you could just pay for a data plan and not have to pay for a voice plan from a company like AT&T? And then u could still text message, e-mail, internet and the sorts, but also be able to make calls through your program?
Hi
Most providers (certainly here in the UK) flag data used for Messenging and/or VoIP so they are charge at a higher rate or excluded from your inclusive allowance so you pay extra or not blocked completely.
VoIP on a mobile device is only really of benefit when you are in range of a wireless connection.
Regards
Phil
Hey, thanks for the reply. Does anyone know if AT&T restrict data like he said? That's gonna be the main service i will be using, and want to know if they do or not.

contacted HTC UK regarding tytn II

Hi everyone.
I am new to this forum but have owned several HTC phones in the past and have always been happy with them until now!
After reading through this forum for many hours and signing the tytn II petition I decided to phone HTC UK direct and speak with their customer services department regarding the issues with the camera/Video drivers.
I spoke to a nice chap who told me that they are aware of the issue and need more people to actually phone in and tell them directly about the problem as they do not monitor the forums themselves. He also said that they will be working on a fix but need more proof as they could not replicate the problem with their own tytn II. (So,how can they be aware but not be able to replicate the problem we are all having??)
He also told me that if I where to put video footage of the problem on youtube and phone him back with the link he could forward this as proof to the relevant people............Seems a bit strange, but thats what he told me to do.
The problem is I do not posess a seperate video camera to actually video the tytn II playing video (if that makes any sense). So,if any of you lads or lasses can take some video footage of the problems and let me have the link,I will phone HTC again and get it sorted.
Do you think I was being fobbed off,and does anyone here think that the youtube video would actually be taken seriously by HTC?
Take care all..........Richard
This basically confirms what they told me and some other chaps as well:
1. They need more people calling in. Just signing the petition and discussing the matter on this forum doesn't really bring us any closer
2. They are somewhat aware of the issue but since too few people who buy this primarilly business oriented product do demending video stuff (like emulation, full res video, touch screen gaming, 3d gaming etc) they can't really see the issue on a broad scale. (Which brings us back to 1: they need more people calling support about this).
If someone has the ability to capture a video of playing a 640x480 XviD, playing a touchscreen 2D-game, trying to launch a GL ES game and trying say a demanding emulator and then uploading it to youtube then we could send the link to HTC for "proof".
I could try to capture it using mymobiler but I don't have the appropriate application for vista to do it and I don't have a video camera.
The number I phoned was a standard 0845 number so the cost of the phone call was standard rate,no expensive tech support lines which is good.
Everyone phone their local tech support lines and maybe they will finally get something done.

Yeah, right. YouTube on my Kaiser... What else, huh? Maybe free porn for everyone too? And how about PROPER BLUETOOTH HEADSET & VOICE DIALLING SUPPORT?!?!
Sorry about that, but I just can't stand all that moaning about video drivers/issues/whatever in business-oriented phone, which was definitely NOT designed to be all-you-can-eat-multimedia-monster. Of course, it would be nice to watch full-quality movies, but what I'd really, I mean *really*, like to have is properly working voice over Bluetooth headset, just like it used to work in Wizard and Hermes, just like it SHOULD work on phones such as Kaiser... This is quite serious bugger, for some even disqualifying Kaiser as a primary phone, but apparently not that many people seem to care about it, anyway.
And please, do not respond to this post - I am not going to subscribe it, so no replies will come into my mailbox. Thanks.
Hey mate.
I am replying anyway
I think you got the wrong end of the stick, not youtube videos on the kaiser, just a video posted on youtube showing the Kaiser faults so they can see for themselves the issues we are having.
I also agree with you on the bluetooth issue but for me the video is more important as I use the phone as a general entertainment device whilst travelling.
Cheers.......Richard
I've started this by doing a video of the extremely reduced performance when using the stylus.
I'll follow it up soon enough with videos of the absent GLES, and generally poor video performance. Please feel free to spread and link this as much as you want. If you want the original .avi-files let me know and I'll send them to you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhHG377wkQU
For those of you who want to capture your own videos I recommend these applications:
http://www.mymobiler.com/ (For getting the video output of your phone on your computer screen)
http://www.etrusoft.com/screen-recorder/ (For capturing only the active video area of your phone through mymobiler)
Just capture using the default settings and then upload to youtube and presto.
It will even be a lot easier on the eye than a videocam capture.
Youtube is on the Kaiser, pr0n is free to anyone anyways
i couldnt find the number, do you mind posting the whole number so i can call them?
will also make a video tomorrow, i have Call Of Duty, and its appauling the software rendering .. because it has no hardware drivers whatsoever, only cpu =/
also eva_d, if you bought a pc with an 8800GTX, and it couldnt play an old game or even run an emulator that your 5 year old laptop could play, wouldnt you just be asking yourself: "whats the point in paying so much for it?"
Anyone have a USA Number?
Here's another one (extreme case) that shows of the lousy video performance when using directdraw:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xeb8-m5opDA
Since I already have this set up feel free to send me/link/tip about apps that I can capture videos of to show HTC. (For an example, I don't have any GL ES game at the moment)
Also make sure you rate the videos high and comment them etc.
Also if someone can capture a video of the extremely slow camera that would be nice as well.
For some reason it's not possible to capture that image using mymobiler (probably bypassing the normal interfaces for increased performance which makes it even sillier since it's so slow )

HTC never replies to e-mails anyway so that won't help, call again and keep pestering them 'til they go get their supervisor or call their second tier support.
I did that twice, fortunately the HTC support doesn't need much pestering to break (my ISP and cellphone operator needs constant bombardment for 10 minutes straight before they connect me to a supervisor or really go away and try to find anything out with their colleagues)

VoIP (SIP) on Diamond

Did anyone try to use a SIP client on the Diamond?
Go and give a try Fring. Website: www.fring.com
Go to www.fring.com and give a try. It works for me
Hi,
Unlike any of the voip/sip apps ive tried on the diamond the only one working correctly, including usage of the internal speaker instead of the external one where the whole world can listen in on your conversation, ageet has managed to create a proper voip app.

I agree, poor quality using Fring, and it stopped my browsers working over NextG...
I found using this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=443972) works the best and the most simple, but think there must be a problem with the dial plan as I can't call mobiles.
Do be careful when installing wm6voip.cab.
In most cases it will break GPS functionality, which will require a hard reset.
I remember there is a thread on getting this to work anyway without breaking GPS, if you do incist on using wm6voip.cab ( i think its crap ).
Go with ageet. its such a nice app works great, uses internal speaker. really worth the money, especially to reward a company to have finally fixed the speaker issues, something other companies failed to do for... what is it.. years now? on windows mobile platforms.
today i installed the beta version of sjphone for wm5...
Seems to work very good so far. Dislike agephone as well...not worth a single penny
Fring sucks. It tunnels everything via their server in England.

Yeah the default dialplan is American. You need to edit ipdialplan.xml. I can give you mine if you want, will work fine if your SIP provider doesn't need any special pre-processing. I use Internode's nodephone service over nextg on my jasjam.. saves me a lot of money.
I'd like to hear if wm6voip.cap works well on the Diamond. I'm reluctant to buy any phone without VoIP support these days.

I've not really tested the VoIP service on my Diamond that much yet, but it is forcing the VoIP to go handsfree which is annoying! But I belive there may be a fix for that...
So enlighten us with your philosophy on why it would not be worth a single penny.

All the reasons you name are in my opinion not related to AgePhone at all but to your voipproviders and/or bandwith. Also the application requires reading the documentation, setting up proper codecs, and also enabling a feature that WILL enable the internal speaker on your diamond. (Speaker Switching Option) This has been tested and working quite fine.

This is not true client initiated sip/voip, but a small client that will initiate a 2 legged call back system where your phone will dial a local number. which means you will still be billed for local phone calls. so this is only usefull for long distance calls abroad.

VOIP. "Everything you wanted to know, but where afraid to ask"

Hello there dear XDA crew. All glories to you, our great comunity, and so, so...
I wanted to make a thread in here, that will bring all our experiences with VOIP on our beloved TRINITY. I just got the divice for this particular reason, and i cannon make it run Smooth and silky.
I read so many thread, dot find the best solution. Is it existing? Is it possible to use our Trinitys for nice VOIP calling with no problems...
I have seen few users fighting with this subject also, so please lets share our experience.
1. How to make a voip run smoothly?
2. What providers do u use, and u think the quality is the best?
Thanx a lot, and i hope someone could help to use my beloved Trinity with Voip.
Greets.

Hello...
Does nobody uses VOIP on Trinity? Or maybe everything is explained allready in different places in the forum i just couldn`t find it.
What is the actual state of VOIP on trinity?
Can we make phone calls with the sound from the front speaker?
Please anyone who is using VOIP with Trinity, please share with me the info...
How to configure the Trinity, so Voip works fine with native dialer...
Is it possible? It should be.... That was the reason for me to buy the Trinity, so please help me can i make it running, or i should look for some other hardware, like Nokia N95, where Voip works so nice...
But i love my trinity though, and i want her sing form me the Voip serenade.
Plz, plz, plz - anyone can guide me in this VOIP world on Trin100?
Excuse maybe i am completely stupid and i do not know, that everything is working properly now.
Please do not ignore me, let someone who uses voip share with me his experience.
Thank you very much.

Hmmmm. Do not believe in that so much. Maybe 1 year ago, but we are almost in 2009.
I am able to get the connections, via wifi, also via 3g. The sound comes from front speaker, but the sound quality is not so good, so i am looking for the solutions, how to make it the best. I download few cabs, but read many about some REGISTRY TWEAKS, which i do not know how to do...
BTW. I have tried AgePhone. It is not so very good as many of you say inside the threads about VOIP. Maybe you want to get customer for the 35$ product which is not so good.
Internal VOIP in WM6 should be possible now.
Please, anyone who really know about this subject, please give some input...
THX.
PS. Also about the providers, which you find that you have the best connections, and sound quality...

so is this is true?
we cannot use voip on the normal phone speaker in WM6 in general? Or this is the issue of the trinity?

and how it is possible that it is working in AEGphone and not working in WM6 native dialer? can anyone explain me that?

Bluetooth Questions/Issues

Considering the G1 doesn't have a standard 2.5 or 3.5mm jack for line out, stereo bluetooth was the only other option. who wants to use a retarded adapter on your headset??
Is there any way to add support for this later? It has to be a software fix, as WM didn't have Stereo Bluetooth until WM6. Any ideas?
You're about a month late discovering this one
I've heard that the Google devs are working on a new bluetooth stack that may support A2DP. I've been poring over so many forums lately, I couldn't begin to tell you exactly where. But even review sites say "...bluetooth (A2DP to come later)." When is anybody's guess.
"supposedly" there will be an update the same day it releases to add in A2DP support...

I hope the other update is video recording...
Oh well, this is STILL the best device T-Mobile has released since the HTC Wizard (aka T-Mobile MDA). And maybe add Outlook support w/ Activesync and Exchange. Well, that might take awhile but someother software might work just as well. Either way,
Does anyone know if word, excel, and powerpoint will work in some kind of fashion?

So far, all they're promising is read-only for Office docs.

Even if we can install Docs-to-go?
Has DataViz put out an Android client?
G1 Bluetooth
I've asked in various stores and got different answers, so I'm hoping someone with a G1 can give me a definitive answer.
Will the G1 allow another device to access the internet over bluetooth??
Specifically I make a lot of use of my TomTom sat nav during the day, and I rely on it getting traffic updates over the web by bluetooth with my phone. Before I buy a G1 will this still work?
TIA
Dave
maybe?
For now no. maybe some one will develop
Poo, that means I have to still carry a PDA and a phone, I was hoping I could put both together by getting a G1.
You can get GPS Maps and Web access through your G1, so you wont need your TomTom. However, it wont be as detailed or have voice.

YET!!! LOL
The hardware is there, but the software isn't finished yet. Right now the only thing Bluetooth can do in Android is connect to a hands-free headset. As I understand, Google is still working on the Bluetooth API and the other profiles will be enabled in a future software update.
Personally, I'm waiting for A2DP. Not a whole lot of point in loading a phone with music if it doesn't work with my headphones.

We use our PDAs alongside our TomToms in vehicles, and to be honest I quite like having them seperate for various reasons.
I'll just have to wait for bluetooth internet then maybe reconsider my position.

I agree I like having separate devices. I don't like combining too many things into one object because you can't use them at the same time. I have a TomTom, a MP3/video player, and the G1 now... But I like the fact that when the TomTom is not up to date I can switch to the G1... and if I find myself without my MP3 player I can just use my G1. I like having the option but I don't use it on a daily basis.
TomTom traffic
I understand your concern as I have a similar problem. I have the Vario II and I have had a lot of trouble with it (WM6.1) connecting to the Tomtom traffic server. My case may be complicated by the fact that I ride (tomtom rider) and I cannot get the phone to fix things in the middle of the ride The problem started when Micro$oft changed DUP bluetooth connection and everything gets messed up. I was considering the android G1 as long as I can get the traffic service that I paid but I cannot use. And just to clarify, I do have a single tomtom unit which does the GPS and all the things. The phone is only to provide connection to the tomtom plus service.
I hope that comes soon.
flashing blue led for enabled bluetooth?
is there one? mine doesnt, yours?
Mine blinks when bluetooth is active... not sure if it's only when a device is connected or not but that would be nice to only see it when devices are connected.
