Ok folks, I thought I would do a little show and tell regarding my trip to Las Vegas. I am hoping to provide a review that will show how versatile the xda really is. First I will start with it a little back ground and statistical information.

The adventure started Tuesday morning at 4:25am, the phones alarm was set to wake me up at 4:30am, but the excitement had me up early. Good thing, because I screwed up and put PM next to the time. Oops. A couple of hours later I make it to the airport with no problems. Before getting on the plane I set my weatherbug today plugin for Las Vegas and then turn the phone off.
Weatherbug: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404969&highlight=weatherbug
Once on the plane and in the air we are told that it’s ok to turn electronic items back on unless they are cell phones. Well this isn’t a cell phone it’s an xda. So I turn it on and make sure it’s in airplane mode. The first thing I do is grab my head phones with the mini usb adapter and start watching some Starwars themed Robot Chicken with Coreplayer.
http://www.coreplayer.com/
While flying I watched a couple of things and read a book, nothing overly exciting. When we land we are told that it’s ok to turn on our cell phones, so I hit the com manager and turn off airplane mode. I was surprised that the time didn’t auto update like my Treo 650 had the years before. (neither did the 2 Moguel’s that my friends had) After setting everyone’s second time zone for them we were off. The lovely weatherbug informed us that the temp was a cool 102 and climbing. (yes folks it hit 108 later on that day).
So the phone had done some work to entertain me but so far it hadn’t done too much to talk about. I was able to enjoy having hsdpa service for once and loved it. Of course I used to the com manager to keep it off when it wasn’t needed by me, the phone can auto update stuff on edge for all I care. During this time another app had it’s chance to shine. Kaiser Tweak allowed me do disconnect data after 5 seconds of no use, and boy did that save battery life. Being out of town with a dead or dying phone isn’t something I want.
Kaiser Tweak: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898
While in Vegas I finally got my Skyfire download, so I opened the com manager and kicked on 3g+ and was rockn the downloads. I installed Skyfire but had to play some pool so I didn’t get a chance to use it at that point.
Skyfire Beta: http://www.skyfire.com/
I went to vegas with 6 people that all wanted to do different things, then 2 more arrived with another 4 a few days later. This sort of diversity allowed the Tilt to stand proud. Some people tried to use the phone book to find numbers or addresses, but not this guy. Google Maps FTW!
Google maps: http://www.google.com/mobile/default/maps/
This sweet app (which updated while I was there) auto updated its location to vegas and helped find number and addresses within seconds. At one point I even used the GPS part of it for directions to something off the strip. TomTom would have been better because of the turn by turn instructions, but I was bull headed and didn’t install it ahead of time.
TCPMP helped out every single day. (this will be kinda silly) Being that others were just outside the restroom door as I was handling business in near silence, I decided to crank up some Tool and jam out while letting the kids go for a swim. (I didn’t want to lose the place of the movie I hadn’t finished on the flight so tcpmp got the audio duties).
TCPMP: http://picard.exceed.hu/tcpmp/test/
While haggiling on the price of pool sticks and cases we used the calculator that was built in. At one point we all ate out at a very nice restaurant and we had to use several htc phones to figure out who owed what.
One of the people from the last group to show had brought a Macbook and wanted to get online to check email and you would think the casino would have free wifi. NOPE.. So me being the tech baller that I am, I install an old WMwifirouter cab that was on my phone. DOH it had expired. So I cranked up Skyfire and pain stakingly finding the site to download it from I find out that Skyfire is going to flake on my and not allow it to download on me. (Thanks Skyfire you suck) What a crappy first impression. So I fire up PIE and it works flawlessly, I install the new cab and we are cruising at hsdpa speed on the notebook. Everyone was amazed.
WMWifiRouter: http://www.wmwifirouter.com/
Again Skyfire let me down, we were waiting for our plane to show up and we knew that weather back home was bad (thanks again weatherbug) but we didn’t know how it would affect our flight. We just happened to have someone with us that worked for an airliner and had all sorts of websites that would give us info on how bad the flight would be. Well Skyfire wouldn’t allow a secure connection, but PIE would so again PIE saved the day. (I forgot to mention that one of the people that arrived later was able to do online check in over the phone, getting them a better seat on the plane, truly handy)
I never had to use the BT keyboard while I was there and the charger/usb extension was my best friend. Even charging the HTC touch a friend had while we were at Jimmy Buffets Margaritaville.
The app that saved the day was Pocket Word, because without that I wouldn’t have known where I parked my car and everyone else lost their parking info. The coolest App was GPStoday because I turned it on while in the air and everyone could see that we were going 550mph.
GPSToday: http://www.geoterrestrial.com/
The Camera was a champ, I took photos left and right, mainly to show off here. I did notice that it snaps photos super fast out in the sun and then waits forever in dim areas (we all know that). The camera was best used to catch a photo of a guy that was drunk and passed out in the casino. I took a single of him with my phone and then we posed with him and took snaps with a touch (because it’s snaps them faster) I am going to post the pics I took with the camera whenever I get home. I did a lot of panoramic pics that I hope you will like.
I really want people have a good idea of what this phone can do. It exceeded my expectations on a 4 day trip and I can’t imagine how useful it could be to a business person.
I love my Tilt
Wow the pics are freak large so I will link most of them and show the others.

OK, you've convinced me.
I'll buy one.
Just waiting for Walmart to get their expanded inventory back in and I'll get one there.
i have never really used my tilt to take pics, i think im goin 2 start takin random pics of things. These are som nice pics btw.
the picture quality is quite okay. did u have fun there?
Vegas is oh so awesome.
Going in November.
Nice little write up of your trip.
I bought my Tilt in December, then went to Vegas the next week for my 21st birthday, it was my brother and sister's gift for me. We stayed at the Venetian, it was the best and biggest hotel I've ever stayed in in Vegas. Oh, I won $200 and made a guy with an iPhone totally jelous of my phone.

nice! i personally don't like the iphone too much, i tried it out, it was just so so.
I had a blast, it was my 4th year in a row, and to be honest having the Tilt by my side made everything better. I was in a place that I didn't know know too well and felt confident that as long as I was awake that I could get to where ever I needed or I could get someone there to me.
Thank you all for the kind words.
Awesome tribute to our fabulous device!!!
Oh, and I am jealous re Vegas!!!!
Great pics btw.
nice write up!

Ok, here we are.
I bought the HTC Diamond one week ago.
The first unit i had, had some issues with the screen : the right corner of the screen was a bit high compared with the left corner.
Here is a a picture of the problem :

Since this is not the only problem i was having with it, the lcd screen also appeared to have some problems, text wasn't very clear/cut at all and was in fact pretty blurry.
The problem could be temporary solved by turning off the screen, and turning it on again.
NOT OK
OK

Finally, i came back to the shop where i bought it, get another unit and.... i'm currently experiencing the same problems.
1/ Inaccurate position of the screen with the button and the whole unit
2/ Blurry screen
I contacted the French Customer Service one week ago, didn't had an answer from them. They don't seem to give a damn ****
SO, for those who are currently thinking of buying an HTC Diamond, be aware of these problems.
If you can wait, then do it. It may be the smarter choice to do, in waiting of HTC to solve these youthful mistakes.
Im on my third, the first wouldnt power up, the second one wifi wouldn't turn on, and the third still has issues with the actual construction just like yours, but not nearly as bad. All three however, had slight imperfections in the build. Finally, none of them have been accepted as an HTC product when registering.
If I were deciding on buying a new phone, it would still be the diamond, but never will I buy another phone until it is officially released in the UK. These grey markets are probably the first batches that still go through redesign and testing thus have the imperfections. The phone having issues isnt a retailer issue, but a manufacturing issue. Such a nice piece of tech (I have bought EVERY mid to luxury phone since the Nokia 8800, and yes I have an issue with spending $$$), but I always but them the day they drop. The same old story, pulling my hair until the official is released, and then all the fixes and mods come out for my grey market phone to work 90% properly. FED UP, really. This is the last one I buy when they come out, my main concern is I am in the US, and some phones make it to the US market and then my phone is no longer unique.
Conclusion, in my vast experience of mobile tech, never have I been this irritated with a poor release. Like I said, such an impressive phone..........in theory.
If HTC ever wants to contact me to make up for this debauchery and release this sense of being bamboozled, PM me, I'll have my people call your people.
I bought two Diamonds. Found these issues:
1. one of the LCD Screen is more yellow when compared with the others
2. power on/off button is not senstive on the right side (too low, and no click feel; its right side is ok.)
3. mic becomes mute during calls (happended twice), I had to soft reset it.
4. screen doesn't turn on sometimes (the button light is on, just not the screen). Press the power button on and off to turn on the screen.
Called HTC tech support, they told me to get a replacement from vendor. And the Vendor told me to wait for the 2nd batch to arrive in 1-2 weeks.
Overall, Diamond has very good design and form factor, but poor quality control.
I'm lucky...
No any issues about build quality.. Especially screen is the magnificent..
no issues with mine
mines from the 2nd batch my wholesaler told me that the 1st batch of every phone are not perfect
hopefully the product come with a two year warranty...
I had a build quality issue that a bit diferent than the dispaly. But it adds to the general poor build quality of the Diamond
Here it is http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=405088&highlight=reset+button
C'mon zmob123, quit whinging! If you go to the grey market you get grey (dodgy) products. If you live in the UK, WAIT until it is released in the UK officially! If you live in the US wait until it is released there! If you are desperate go for the grey market - sometimes you are in the luck, sometimes you are in the s**t. Now, if any of you are so desperate that you spend around £430 for the very first version of ANY mobile phone, you should go and see a shrink because you are in serious trouble. I am still waiting for my MDA Compact IV and even though I really, really what it ASAP I will stay put and wait. No risky grey market for me. That way I'll not have to be disapointed.
aiwama
ive always owned a grey market import, never had any issues.
maybe as i wait 2-3 weeks so all the people who want to have the 1st from the factory can have it with issues.
and i get the 2nd batch.
when the n95 came out there was similar issues, it was mostly for the 1st batch of phones, all others had no issues.
my advice, is you want a grey market phone get one. BUT wait 1-3 weeks before you buy for the dust to settle on build quality issues, or contact the supplier to see if they are selling the 2nd batch....

I hear you man, I live in the US, but not whining. I like to get it when it comes out, just like everyone else on here I love tech a gadgets, but I have to agree with you, just avoid the risk and leave the worries behind. Only problem is I get this "itch" as soon as its released. Besides, the guy who started the thread started the *****ing, just thought I'd throw in my two pennies. Please, don't get me wrong, the phone is fantastic, just needs some finishing touches. To be honest, never had major issues until the diamond, but I think to root of the evil is the TouchFlo3D. The cosmetics is just a bad job on HTC's part. Oh, and the shrink, I'll phone in the morning,

I'm not "*****ing", boy, therefore please watch your word.
I am writing here the problems i am encountering with this phone (not a black market one, an official one i get to a high price in a big brand french shop) since it is the second unit i'm getting and still having the same problems.
These problems are not software related, they can't be resolved with an update, a program, or with gold help.
Since we have no way to know if HTC is aware of these problems and going to solve them, and since i don't think i'm wrong by saying that some of their staff is walking on this forum (do you remember HTC Kaiser drivers issue?), i don't think it was a such bad idea to post this.
Everything is not black with this phone, but at this level of price you are expecting something better than these speakers, screens, and builds problems.
So, if other peoples are having the same problems, don't hesitate to give your feedback.
All in all..
Ladies and Gentleman, i'm afraid i have to leave you for some hours.....

Haha Yeah guys its just a more basic phone for her. She doesnt need some crazy pphone that does as much as the Kaiser. She just needs a phone to talk and text one. She loved her iPhone before and was just getting the hang of things when I got rid of it and got her the Kaiser haha. But she would like to go back now anyways. To each their own guys. Its all personal preference.
well I would never buy an iPhone, I don't see why it's terrible for another person to get one, especialy if they like it and don't like the competition.
I love to tinker with my "toys"; some people want an easy out-of-the-box experience. You can't have both, so you have the winMobiles and the apples. To each his own.

I completely agree with you up until 'you can't have both'. Why not? I completely believe that this is where Windows Mobile falls flat on it's face. I would expect that the vast majority of iPhones sold are due to it's looks (I know that's the only factor drawing me towards wanting one). I would therefore argue that had the Windows Mobile interface looked as nice if not nicer then they would obviously be much more appealing, to both the 'fashion' buyers, and to the kind of people that use this forum as it would encompass both functionality, the ability to be modded, and aesthetics...and the iPhone would become obsolete! So come on WM...employ some f'ing designers!! It's a no-brainer!
altho i wouldnt have one, iphone is much thinner, lighter ..
most ppl just dont do the same or expect the same from their device as we do.
i know many guys who sold their tilts for exactly the reasons above..
my tilt is bigger and heavier than my 8y/o nokia .. its an everyday heavy lug when many times i just need a simple phone and occasional web connection..
if i could, or it made any sense, i would have 2 phones.. light and industrial strength
wife has really light thin phone and a nokia n800 in her purse.
driving around, she needs web access. nokia has fast and far wifi recognition..
at least 40% of networks are open and not pw protected..
she taps in real quick, does her business and drives off..
it worx really well
Iphone not so bad
I went from an 8525 > iphone > Tilt.
Still got the iphone. After it's jailbreaked and installer is installed, you can customize it and get just about any program you want on it. It's got style, and the transitions are smooth.
I like WM better, but for its hard to down the iphone, because it's a cool and fast phone.
one major reason i bought my tilt was b/c of the GPS... TomTom is so cool..
it saved me from having to own another gadget..
The iphone with installer does have a load of programs, but what annoys me is that most of those are just eye candy rather than actually useful apps or hacks like we have under WM... Of course the interface smoothness, speed and overall comfort makes it awesome for things like web surfing, but there's so much more functionality on a Kaiser that even if I like the iphone concept, when thinking rationally I would only use it for web and to look at it.. no possible justification to have both
I too to love the Kaiser for versatility. It has managed to include all the devices I was using, last one being the GPS that was external before and that I of course never had with me when I needed it...
Does not even the new 3G iPhone do picture msgs?
Man... maybe I'm crazy but all these people are talking about the iphone's speed and reliability.. In my personal experience (a lot, I live in trendy hollywood) I hear more people saying "I HATE this piece of ****!!" more than anything else about the iphone. Just having dinner the other night this girl's iphone lagged like crazy and straight up froze for a good 20 seconds. She said "It does this all the time". Then my other buddy's tryin to show me some pictures on his iphone and he has to turn the thing in his hand like 4 times to get it to switch to landscape. So from my personal experience.. it would seem that the "reliability" of the iphone is all how it was marketed, not how it actually performs.
I'm tired of my HTC Magnum. I would consider an iPhoney in trade, just to tinker with something different.
Hey I have 1st gen iPhone in very good condition unlocked. where you located? pm me asap!
Not to mention new iPhone 3G's battery is a disaster, wont last as long as even tilt...
So you could show up at an awesome party and try to use your iBeer to impress your mates, and only to find out your beloved iPhone 3G has died on you...

I'm pretty sure those "reliability issues" are like always caused by 3rd-party programs. iPhone users (at least those I know) often have 4-5 pages of useless but funny/good for boasting programs installed, so it's not surprising one could be buggy and cause problems.
One of my friends once had an issue where his iphone wouldn't even hold a day on battery anymore. Turned out it was a program that was still eating the CPU even on standby. Uninstalled and it was fine. He never had speed issues but it can be just the same.
The same is valid on the Kaiser and other WM devices too... I had a program (A2DPToggle) that would do the same, phone never went into standby anymore as soon as the today plugin was active...
Not even talking of the PC... It's just the same on any platform. Incompatibilities/badly designed programs will always be around.

I'm a HUGE tilt/ kaiser fan, and still don't understand what you're talking about. The iphone doesn't have poor call quality, it has great call quality. I've used one myself, and have tons of friends that have the iphone. Horrible messaging? No... it works great actually, it just lacks MMS (which should be comings hortly in an update). Oh, and lacking mms is probably just as comparable to the tilt's lack of a good dialer, or a decent camera....lol.

Apples and oranges here. While the dialer and camera may not be up to par to most folks, the functionality is already there.
Lacking MMS is a totally different issue.
Your thread, like every other time an iPhone and a Windows phone are mentioned together, has been hijacked. It is a fact that both camps have very strong emotions and a "my phone is the only choice" attitude. This thread is not the place for that discussion. Let's get back to the purpose of the OP.
Does anyone wanna trade an iPhone for this guys Tilt?
Anyone have a new one they would trade?
Hey Guys.
Long time reader. Sometimes contributer. Tried cooking my own one weekend... Failed a bunch of times, realized that there are way more talented people cooking roms that are better then mine.
My question to the community is this. What do you have, can you do with, or make your Windows Moble Phone do that will really WOW a regular windows mobile user such as myself?!
Linux/Google Android is getting close to complete and it is a new interface but it still doesn't really WOW?! Windows Mobile 7? when? where? what will THAT look like? Anyone controlling their house? lights? garage door? climate conditions? Anyone have a Kaiser that transforms into a tiny bot with a gatlling gun? I mean what does it take to really impress someone with a Kaiser?
Since the 8525 came out and even a little before (verizon 6600, 6700, 6800 & treo 700w) I have been addicted to flashing my phone to find a faster, better looking and more reliable rom. Threaded SMS, good job. Better Photo Album software, awesome. Something other then the default file explorer, pocket ie and media player, FANTASTIC! more RAM and ROM space, higher MicroSD capacity, totally cool! but I'm at the point where you just want more! It's like some addictive drug I guess.
anyone want me to be a tester?! for anything? where do i sign up?
now that i re-read this.. maybe i should have put this in the general forum...
ehr... How about you try installing that Manilla-thingy?
Wow effect kinda depends on what you're used to..
Hope you find your 'WOW!' ...and let us all know ;-) Good luck!

i run HARET and everyone goes WOW!
here's a list of what made me go "wow!" over the years: htc home, htc cube.throttlelauncher, spb mobile shell, android, etc up until touchflo3d aka manila2d which is the last coolest thing i played with.
manilla 2d
andriod
a little program called basils smser is alot of fun, its a bomber flooder, type what message you want to send and how many times you want to send it. it also has practical uses such as voting for american idol haha i got just over 20 thousand votes in for the last finale
another program called oist allows you to remotely control your phone through txt messages
SKYFIRE! the skyfire revolution my friend is a must
the panoramic camera function is fun to play with
also their is a program that you take a picture of a buisnes card and it automatically picks everything up and fills in all the information.....
a prgram that acts as a remote for your tv.....
their is alot of stuff out their really..... with windows mobile if you can imagine it there is just about a program to do it
you know what? ...... almost everytime someone posts something different here on XDA... its makes me go WOW.....why? you ask? becuase its windows based! (meaning we can rape the [email protected]$# out of it...haha) and i love not having restrictions at all as we do with these phones in general..... so when someone ask me to get away from htc or windows based phones... i say HELLLLL NOOOO just for that reason!!!!!
ps.... if you do your research you would be able to ask for a #2 with no tomatoes if you wanted it to...... hypothetically speaking!!!!!

My list is shorter:
when I got my first WM 2003 SE PocketPC for Phone Edition (or whatever that horrible name was) I expected and waited for BSOD for about a week until I finally shook my head in disbelief it didn't happen
And I'm with WinMo since - that's my one and only WOW...
@ OP
Don't be naive. It's a Windoze mini computer with a phone. The worst existing Operating System on the market, perhaps ever in the computing history. Isn't it a "WOW!" already? It's a miracle in itself that it works
And as previous poster said - that's also exactly why we all use it, don't we? To have possibility to hack, crack, f*ck and whatever else we can with it. Same as with our big computers. We use linux for daily stuff (or a Mac at worst, if youre into eyecandy limited crap), and Windozes for the apps that are handy and not avail. there. Its exactly the same with our small computers, aka PPC or Smartphones.
So, honestly, if youre into WinMo phones for some "kewl" "wow factor", youre in the wrong place, and with wrong device in your hand.
I say go get an iCrap 3G and start pleasuring it (/edit: I mean fingering it, like all those Apple nuts do) and start showing off if you're into "wow" instead of what you can do with it or use it for , and of course if you're not the last on the block to have that crappy "i" phone that consists entirely of "kewl" look but no substance at all ;-) ... because seriously, as far as "kewl factor" goes, no one beats Apple (in both uselessness and "wow" factor in the same time) and current "best looking UI" on WinMo - Manila - (notice I didn't say it is best at all, just best looking) is still not as cool as iPoo's UI (because it can NOT be - can you even imagine using i.e. Word or Excel with just touch screen and no stylus? Not to mention lack of copy'n'paste ROTFL)
And don't count on Android. As linux-based OS, it will never be as popular as cranky WinMo - because most people use Windozes and ppl stick with what they know usually. I'm sure it will be best and most stable OS out of all mobile platforms, yet it won't be more popular in the mobile world than linux is among PC users (I wish I'm wrong...)
If anything - maybe one day that old Symbian, if it still have some juice left in it, may surprise us one day with stable and "WOW'y" OS...
Just my 0.02
oh and yeah, why is it in development? Im not even sure it even fits "general", it should have been in iPhone section... oh yeah <smack myself in the head> thankfully we don't have any iPoo section
I can lock and unlock my car doors, open my car doors, roll my windows up and down, start the engine, turn it off, turn on and off the headlights and control my stereo from my WinMo's touch screen. details are to be remain in my head since it took me a year to make it possible. When I show it to people, I don't just get a "WOW" I get lots of "HOLY **** "

winmobile torrent but i would like to find a program that will convert video files on the kaiser directly without the need for a comp.

I always knew that the first 'K' in KITT stood for Kaiser...
Hello All,
I just thought that I would start this thread because I know that a lot of people on this forum have been complaining about the status of the Kaiser and the Graphics driver (or lack thereof).
I have a Kaiser myself, and so far have been very happy with it, but when I managed to get a new iphone 3G 16Gb for a very good price, I thought that it would be interesting to try it.
I have now decided to get rid of one of the phones... which one??? The iPHONE!!!!!!!!!
I HONESTLY feel that the iphone is an excellent phone, but it is no where near ready to take on the likes of the Diamond or the Kaiser in the corporate environment.
What are your feelings? Please let me know if you have also tried one.
If anyone wants to know more details about why I sold the iphone, please feel free to contact me.
I am a student with a kaiser and i use many of its features everyday, but dont think i could EVER use everything this phone and WM(as much as i dislike it) has to offer. The iphone is a great phone that excels extremly well in its areas, but i dont believe the kaiser and iphone are direct competers. Iphone= entertainment/business casual phone for anyone, simple and strait forward. Kaiser= Business & complex phone for thoughs who need to be able to take there computer with the anywhere
My thoughts...
Both phones are really nice phones and what one does well the other lacks. To me the best thing about the iphone was the browser. Safari on the iPhone is much better than IE for WM. If you throw in the latest version of Opera into the mix the web browsing parts of the phone become more comparable. What I did was change the Opera user agent string to spoof the iPhone. This way sites that are designed for the iPhone come up in Opera without any issues that I have ran into so far. There are a few sites that I visit that have a much better version for the iPhone. A few for example are espn.com , nypost.com , delta.com and even the msn.com page looks better in Opera with spoofing the iPhone than it does in IE. If you spoof the user agent with IE it does not display the web pages correctly.
Email I give a slight edge to the Kaiser. Both handle it very well but once again the keyboard makes it easier for me.
MMS...Well I use it quite often and it was lacking from the iPhone.
I need to edit documents on the go and the iPhone couldn't do it out of the box and with it jailbroken it was a pain in the ass to do all that typing on the screen.
Using it as a media device the iPhone has the advantage. iTunes has a much better interface than WMP or Audio Manager. Easier to sync and the app store was kind of cool. I miss the iTrans NYC subway maps. Even though I know the subway system it was a nifty little app to use. Google Maps is ok for subway directions but preffered iTrans. What I found interesting though is that the Kaiser seems to have better sound quality than the iPhone when listening to music. I just got a set of Shure headphones and with Audio Booster I get much better sound than with the iPhone and same headphones. Most likely due to no EQ for iPhone. If there is one than I missed it.
For me I am back with my TyTN II. I guess I need to have my PC with me all the time and with the TyTN II I can even more so than with the iPhone. Plus I get a kick when everyone has there me too iPhones and I whip out my phone. It starts a few converstations a week while I am commuting...
I used iphone 3G for a month and has moved back to Tilt now. my reasons are quite simple
I can control my tilt by modifying it in whatever way i want, which i was not able to do with iphone
copy and paste was not there in iphone
eventhough the iphone feels sturdy i doubt it. i dont have that confidence in rough handling iphone as other ones i had.
the loudspeaker is very low
no flash support. Skyfire is awesome for tilt now
no file transfers
But of course iphone is a fantastic phone with a love at first sight screen and awesome browser. I would love to have a phone with iphone screen resolution and a iphone browser and everything else like tilt.
Geez, another useless "which one is better thread"...
read this thread

The iphone sucks and always will, Wow it has a nice GUI, whoopty-fuc*ing-doo. So does manilla. And you can load 3rd party apps, without having to be connected to wifi, and (hold on to your seat) you can bluetooth a freakin ringtone. And one more suprise....Ready, Ya sure.... The kaiser can copy and paste, and even view a freakin web in FLASH. OMFG.

Iphone 3G is alright, i owned the original Iphone and messed around with my friends Iphone 3g. Its an ok phone. Its missing too many things i love from the Tilt. I'll start off with the things I love on the Tilt that the Iphone is missing.
1. Copy and Paste
2. Skyfire, and Opera Mobile
3. A true gps like Tom Tom
4. Bluetooth A2DP
5. Camera with video recording(plus its 3mp and 6mp with panorama shots)
6. Thousands of ways to customize with mobile shells, iphone themes also, etc,...
7. Louder speaker, its waaaay too low. I almost always missed phone calls on my old iphone, and iphone 3g is no different.
Personally, for me to want an iphone, those things would have to be in a future version. A keyboard would be nice, but i can live without it.
And now the good things.
1. Great big Touch Screen, the best i've ever tried.
2. Nice music and itunes going for it, buying songs on the phone through wifi. Pretty great stuff. (On another note, using programs such as S2P, S2U2, and S2V, would give you most of iphones greatest features on the Tilt. Mimics iphones picture, mp3 player with cover flow, and its lock program. They all work great on the tilt.)
3. Great video playback. The tilt is good for watching videos(such as youtube, but can't match the iphones much smoother playback.
4. Great App store with games that utilize iphones accelerometer and touch screen. Its pretty nice(although tilt also has tons of apps and games, certain things don't work nearly as good as they do on the iphone, especially when it comes to touch gestures.)
The iphone is a pretty neat phone, its just missing many things such as mms as well. I occasionally use mms, but its not a neccesity for me so i didnt list it, but it is for others. I'd wait for the 3rd or 4th generation iphone personally, before diving in. Or, you can look towards the google android. I would be getting one if i had t-mobile, but im on ATT. Its almost just like the iphone, going to have a similiar app store, mms, gps with street views, full keyboard, and nice big touch screen as well. When it comes to the Tilt vs the iphone 3g, the tilt wins hands down. A second generation ipod touch seems more likely to buy for me.
Thanks for your comments. I simply wanted to make sure that I was not the only person that is not so impressed with the iPhone.
I have now in fact sold the phone, but I think that I MIGHT regret it.
I saw an article yesterday that shows a programmer in Norway has managed to get Windows Mobile running on the iPhone. He has managed to create a "boot camp" equivalent for the iphone. Sadly the system is only in BETA at the moment, but he said that he will be selling the system in January 2009.
I am alone in thinking that this would be a REALLY cool phone to have Windows Mobile on the iPhone Hardware???????
Comments please!!!!!!
There is already a thread about the iphone running WM, but some of the commentary suggests that its a possible fake Anyway, to answer your question, Iphone wouldnt be Iphone running WM.
There are plenty of iPhone dissing threads in Off-Topic, Where they belong.
Thread Closed pursuant to the guidelines set forth in the Kaiser Section Announcement and Forum Policies.
Hey guys, just wanted to announce my game for windows phone called Sketch Defense. Its the first game I've ever made (I just started programming this summer). It's a fixed path tower defense game that I think is pretty fun. Sorry there is no trial and no way to give out free codes for downloads.
If you feel like spending a buck to check it out I would love to get some feedback from you guys! I also look forward to the dev community and seeing what they can come up with! Hopefully with my limited knowledge of C# I'll be able to participate a bit more than on other platforms!
Update 1/14/2011 - New version has been released with a new account. Working on fixing some bugs and re-coding the particle system. New version should be out in a few weeks. Hope you all are enjoying the game!

Did you play the unlimited stages or just the normal levels? There is actually an update I'm uploading right now that just fixed a few bugs. Do you think it's too easy? On the emulator it seemed more difficult, on the device its easier. I also may need to tweak the stars... on the device I dont seem to get nearly as many points as on the emulator. The game ran horribly on the emulator for some reason, but runs really well on the device thank goodness.
Got any suggestions? Like I said, this is my first game ever (just started programming a few months ago) so any suggestions are very welcome!
I think it was quite difficult, until I bought the boost tower. After that it was smooth sailing.
Suggestions:
-Have an offset when dragging the tower, so that the finger doesn't cover the tower during placement. makes it much easier! (may require additional logic for edges)
-Maybe in the future allow a maze mode! I think it would require a snap-to-grid layout, which i don't think the current implementation implements.
-Air units and air towers/invisible units and invisible sensing towers.
-Races, each race has different towers and different special effects.
-Individual upgrades to damage/range (perhaps after the max upgrade?)
-Description of towers would be nice
-Space the towers a little bit, i tend to always grab the wrong tower. (perhaps there could be a build-tower button that opens up a scrollable menu that gives tower selection (can also place descriptions here).
-Ability to pause the game (for tower placement)
-Trial mode (would probably bring you the most cash)
Bugs:
-For some reason all my lightning buffs disappear
-When reloading the game, the boost tower disappears
-Can't upgrade the boost tower, had 15K gold and it still didn't work.
-That ice map didn't follow that pathing, is that intentional for the "slipping"?
I am quite impressed on your first project, did you use game studio when implementing this? or you did it straight up in c#? If so do you have any links that helped get you started (so i can take a look at them )?

Offset when dragging towers: There should be an offset of over 100 pixels already, at least there is on my copies and I've tested it on a couple different phones.
Maze mode: What do you mean?
Other suggestions: I'll take them into account. I do plan on making some changes eventually to give it more depth, but the hardest part of making this game was "balancing" the different towers so that one wasn't way too powerful or really weak. As it is, the arc tower needs a strength or range upgrade I think, albeit slight.
Bugs: The lighting buff only lasts a few seconds and it is global, so if you use it on one tower, it will take away from your global pool. The normal levels only have one lightning boost, the unlimited levels have 20. I'll add some better descriptions to the help screen about this.
I'll look into the boost towers, they must not be getting re-loaded correctly. Not sure why you arent being allowed to upgrade them.
Ice map "slipping" is intentional, a friend did the map and it was his idea.
How I got started: I used XNA game studio which makes things really easy (compared to doing everything on your own). I started by reading a few C# tutorial books, then once I had a decent grasp of object oriented programming and C# syntax I started doing xna tutorials. After a few weeks of tutorials I started working on the game and just worked on one thing at a time. Each day I could typically work out one thing and eventually got a working game. Like I say though, the hardest part was balancing everything out.
Anyway, thanks for the suggestions and bug reports. There is already a new version being validated that fixes a few bugs you didn't mention (levels not loading after coming back into the game). I'll try and get a new update out this week with some other bug fixes. I'll also be adding another level this week or next and maybe a trial mode. The reason it doesn't already have one is because people were having problems with it before windows phone was released and I just didn't want to mess around with it.
Edit: new build submitted. boost towers can now be upgraded and will persist on load. Rocket tower range now properly indicates when being dragged. Offset from fingers has increased when dragging a tower. Arc tower names have been changed.
There should really be a trial option; let people play the first few levels, or try to add xbox live achievements, and let the trial run forever without them...
Since 1.5, I noticed that once I place a tower, I can't place other towers. Any attempted to "grab" a different tower results in that first tower being selected.

Thanks, working on a new version now. Strange how bugs pop up when you don't even touch areas of code that they deal with!
The game looks really nice, whish I would have a WP7 device.
This picture would be pretty nice as wallpaper, can anyone share it? Would like to have it for WVGA-device
Hey guys, new version was released a while ago but I've pulled it due to problems with Microsoft. I've had to create an entirely new developer account and my apps will be moving to that account. I've already talked to Microsoft and essentially, anyone that already bought this app won't be able to receive further updates.
With the new account, and the new apps that I'll be releasing, this won't happen.
so are you going to re-release sketch defense or just end development?
Hah this game is pretty fun, going to recommend to my friends
Played during lunch at work and had me going the whole time lol. Good stuff, but need to work on touchability a little bit down when you select the defense weapon, sometimes it chooses the weapon to the right of what you are actually trying to click.
Other than that, fun game!
Hi, i am an artist, Your game is pretty neat. I was going to offer if you wanted I could help you with art for this game or a re-theme under a different title. Or if you have something new in the works I can make it look slick. Basically I have been looking to developers because I want to bring life to my art. You can see some of my art by looking at the latest thread I started.
Great game, just purchased. How are your sales doing on the app?

I have my little brother working on art for me. I am working on a new game, its a tower defense again, but you play as a ship and you fly around the level using dual thumbsticks. Your ship has lasers and you can also fly to different "dock" zones and build towers for defense. Graphics in this new game are going to be glow style, all black backgrounds.

I've had a few hundred sales. Hopefully when WP7 takes off more, sales will go up a bit so I can justify spending more time on development. Currently I only have a few hours a couple nights a week.

That's really strange because when I play, it tends to select the tower to the left... I wonder if I modified the touch zones too much in favor of me playing. I'll look into it and hopefully fix it in future releases. Thanks for the report as well. As I mentioned, this is my first game ever (started programming a few months ago) and all the feedback is very nice to hear. Makes it much easier to get rid of bugs and enhance gameplay.
that sucks to hear about having to create a new account.
I paid for it before and it was pretty good. Not sure if I want to buy it again for updates.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I've completed a new update for Sketch Defense. I'll be uploading the new version either tonight or tomorrow. Assuming MS has no problems with it, it should be available later this week to download.
Changes:
I've re-written the particle engine so that it should be a bit quicker now, and the particles will be more random.
I've changed how the disc tower's "bullets" work. Hopefully you won't notice a difference, but it eliminates a bug with calculating damage inflicted upon nearby enemies.
Also, concerning the problems selecting the towers... I'm open to suggestions on making that better. Currently, the selection area for the towers are as big as I can make them without having them overlap.
And...
If you find that by next week there isn't an update available for you, please let me know by PM!
