I faithfully promise that i've looked far and wide for this (maybe it's my research skills that are lacking?) but can anyone tell me if using the unsigned Hard SPL will allow me to flash the newest official ROM onto an Orange branded phone?

i want to be able to flash my rom so that i could install the HTC RUU on my tmo wing ( it's actually a herald but i was stupid enough to put in the TMO RUU)
Do you know any way i could do that with instructions available?
Also, once i do it, would the phone become unlocked again or still locked Just wondering.

The HARD-SPL is a little more dangerous than the USPL... I can help you find ways to get any ROM you want on that phone easily enough, but UNLOCKING it again is the hard part. There's not 100% sure fire SAFE way of doing it.
welll, i just installed the hard-spl on my device and it went through
there's just one thing that gets me...
what's the difference with this hard-spl and HTC?
is the only difference is that the boot screen is different or are there more features?
For now, I just need a comparision of what the hard-spl has from the HTC one.
The Hard-SPL is a customer SPL. It's permanent, too. You will have to create your own customized RUU from now on, one that lacks the SPL. You can't flash RUU's that contain SPL because the SPL is now write protected. It's convinient, though, because now you can't accidently screw it up. (It's safe once you have it IN your device. Too many people brick their phones trying to get it in there in the first place, though.)
So now i won't be able to put in the HTC RUU anymore?
All right, sorry i'm being so stupid, but here's another question...
You said that i now have to make my own customized RUUs?
What do you mean by that?
If you don't mind, you could send me a pm, I don't want to spam this thread with my stupidity.
Now you can flash ANY rom you want.
ALL cooked ROms - really all - without the chance of bricking = your device is SAFE.
IF you respect this little thing
every RUU Rom Update Utility
contains:
1. Enterbootloader.exe
2. Rapitool.exe
3. RomupgradeUtility.exe (the one you start)
4. RUUGetinfo.exe
5. RUU ressource.dll
6. RUU_signed.nbh (that is the custom system OS - you can put every HERALD .nbh here postet in touchIT3 for example)
7. SPL.nbh ---- !!!!!!!! delete this allways!!!!!!!!! ------ (it is in all official RUU but delete it)
now you can flash with an official update tool all custom roms for you herald.
But donĀ“t use wing roms - the keyboadmapping is different.
There are good herald roms, too.
Good luck

A quick search of the wiki and kaiser forums didn't find anything related to this so here goes...
I have a gray market Kaiser bought about 1 yr ago and it came with a 1.81.707 WWE ROM installed. The Network Wizard displays countries such as Australia, India, HK, Singapore, etc. so I'm guessing the phone was originally targeted for sale in that area of the world.
I recently tried to upgrade to the official 6.1 WWE ROM, but the install failed with a message about the ROM not matching the phone. I'm assuming the phone has been CID locked so it won't work with the new WWE ROM and I'd like to know what official ROM would actually work with this phone.
Is there any non-permanent method of finding out what the CID Lock is currently set to? A couple of the unlocker apps appear to provide this facility however I'm only interested in using official ROMs with this phone. Therefore I haven't run any of the SIM/CID/SPL utilities available in the other Kaiser forums.
You need to read the Wiki and make sure you HardSPl before any flashing is done, I would also recommend you get it sercurity unlocked. All this information can be found in the Wiki.

Thanks for the pointer to the wiki and on HardSPL. After watching the forums for the past couple of years and reading the wiki I'm well aware of the recommendations around flashing new unofficial ROMs.
However my question is slightly different. I'm trying to find out if it is possible to find out what the CID lock setting for the phone is without having to load HardSPL or one of the other related unlock tools.
Any ideas are appreciated.
As far as I know it can only be done with these apps. OliPro has a SIM/CID unlocker that you can use. You dont have to unlock the handset if you dont want to but it will show you the current CID code. Hope this helps
I've been reading the wiki, but either it was not clear enough or i am dumb enough (^^)
can anyone pls clarify me? does SoftSPL need to be loaded on every system startup or just only on rom upgrade?
it seemed to me a better choice to use SoftSPL instead of HardSPL to not void warranty.
since OliNex (uber pro ty dudes) are developing a HardSPL is it possible to port/transform/whatever to SoftSPL?
best regards

softspl aka sspl is only used for flashing spl's. You can't flash a rom using a sspl. Why do you think the Hardspl is created???????
thought
sspl -> temp fix
hspl -> perm fix
With the softspl you flash the hard spl and then you flash a rom with it

no. imagine the following case... your device has no matching shipped rom for it... you flash a rom via sspl... flash gets interrupted... YOU're STUCK!!!
and warranty isn't voided with hardspl, just reflash to stock SPL before sending it in...

Please do not start new threads for questions that are best treated in the threads specifically dealing with flashing. There are specific threads for HSPL, USPL and a Tutorial discussing and explaining both.
An official spl will not work (unless it is 1.54.0000) but you will still need to use USPL in that case to keep the spl. That being said however, AFAIK the spl will not have any performance related enhancements to the device unless of course you have the wrong one, in which case the performance will be negatively affected.
You have the choice of either using HSPL or USPL for flashing new roms. As you have chosen HSPL this permanently replaces the standard spl (it can be reversed though).
With USPL, the way I understand it (have not tried it myself as I use HSPL), you first upgrade to an official spl - 1.54.0000, and then using UPSL this allows you to "crack" the standard spl to flash a new rom and each time you flash you need to repeat the process.
The difference between USPL and HSPL:
* HSPL is an user-modified SPL that you have to flash to your phone. It overwrites the existing SPL on your device with a "hacked" one so to say. It allows you to bypass the HTC certificate check and flash unsigned or CID-mismatching roms to your phone. You only have to flash it once and then you can flash roms anytime.
* USPL is a temporary solution. It takes advantage of an exploit in the existing SPL and then loads a modified one to memory, effectively allowing the same thing as HSPL. However, since this is only memory-resident you have to do it each time you want to flash unsigned or CID-mismatching roms to your phone, because this exploited state is lost upon reboot. With USPL you must still have the right version of the HTC SPL that is compatible with the rom you want to use.

Hey, i got an HTC HD7S from AT&T, i need some help, can i flash the new radio to this phone and a custom rom ? or does it differ anyhow from HTC HD7 ?
Please help me out
Yes you can.
The HD7and HD7s are the same device only the touch LCD screen is different. The HD7s has a SLCD screen and the HD7 has a LCD screen.
To Change the radio and to install a custom rom you need to downgrade the devices SPL and install XSPL.
Steps are -
1. Downgrade the devices SPL to at or below 3.xxx (which is required to install XSPL
2 Install XSPL (RSPL/HSPL) to the device. (which is required to flash a custom rom)
3. Flash the custom rom and radio of your choice.
Just follow Shadows tutorial on downgrading SPL, installing XSPL and flashing custom roms and radios. It has all the methods for downgrading SPL, the links for stock/shipped roms and radios.

Thank You for your informative reply, and i apologize for my late reply, i just have too many university assignments at the moment. I forgot to mention that i live in UK and on the AT&T HD7s i only get EDGE connection, instead of 3G. I was wondering if i can flash a European radio to somehow use 3G. Do you think this will work, has it ever been done before ?
