Hi,
Just a thought.
We all know that our battery drains quickly with our Diamonds.
Especially when you have your WiFi and Bluetooth radio on constantly. They seem to be responsible for the greatest loss in battery power.
Why don’t I just turn off these radios? Well because I hate it when I step into my car and have to start Bluetooth up to get my hands free car kit going. And once at home, I want my device to connect with Wifi. So basically, like most features and items, things will be created due to our laziness.
But in my case I follow a daily pattern;
I get in my car to drive to work around +/- 8:00 am until 10:00 am, I drive back around 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. In general I will be home around 6 – 7:00 pm and will need my wifi connection until 12:00 And that 5 workdays a week. Weekends is a different matter.
I am trying to show that if it were possible to program the connections according to a schedule, then I (we) might be able to decrease the drainage on the battery next to all those battery tweaks out there

LMAO, not THAT lazy... but THAT much of a noob I guess.
How and where would I do that?

Try PhoneAlarm. It's what I use. It has several phone profiles, Home, Car, Work etc., in which you can set bluetooth and Wlan functions.

Great posts guys, I will surely look in to them.
I have a bluetooth toggle set to left soft key and a mortscript that toggles wifi on when Internet explorer or the network plugin opens and off when they close.
Also it's annoying that the only way to tell if handsfree is connected (via bluetooth) is to go to the dial screen and check for the earphone icon so I wrote a script to play a sound and give a message on the screen to say "Handsfree connected"
PhoneWeaver from SBSH does what you need and much more.
I bought it and I am reall happy with its features.
Have a look at it.

I have my PC and Diamond set up to connect Active-sync bluetooth. but I have to manually press the " connect via bluetooth " option in the phones active-sync menu.
If I walk out of range or turn of the pc it will not reconnect until I go back through to the option in the menu and press " connect via bluetooth " again.
Nokia phones will do it automatically when they are in proximity is there a mod that replicate this ?

I noticed that too, while my previouse phone (Qtec) did contect when within proximity of the bluetooth radio. I suppose there is a setting somewhere that needs changing.
@ dave, Thanks. I will check that out too
would be cool if anyone can figure out how to change settings to make the proximity bluetooth work...

OK, this ide was stolen from a guy at the norwegian forum www.windowsmobile.no: Can't somebody who knows what they're doing program a small app that can be set to turn on BT and WLAN whenever the unit is turned on? Then I'd be very happy, at least!
may be this tool can help?
http://oz.sciox.org/ozbt.html
Wow! At first glance it seems to work! I'll have to turn off the unit for a longer time and see if it still works. I'll know in the morning...it's been along night. Election night in Norway.
I think this does work but like Mastiff says I am going to leave off my SX66 for a bit.
If this does work, this needs to be added as a patch?
I am pretty sure this is working for my SX66.
I first manually turned off Wireless and Bluetooth. Then restarted my PDA, which both Wireless and Bluetooth where off when it was done booting. I then went into ozBT and changed Wireless/BT from Default On to Defaul Off.
I was then going to restart the PDA but before I could Wireless and BT popped on!
I also turned off my PDA for a bit and Bluetooth was off - then it turned it's self back on.
Nice!
Someone needs to invite this guy over here and get him on the staff!
Why would you want BT and Wifi turned on everytime you switched on your PPC? Wouldnt that kill the battery? Every time you soft reset, turn on to check email, etc. Can someone explain what this achieves?
Myself I do not want WiFi on but I do for Bluetooth, since I use a BT Headset all the time.
First of all this doesn't work very well at all for me. On my Qtek 9090 this has unforseen side effects for WiFi, so I have gone back on it. It doesn't log into my default network at once, like it does when I turn it on manually. Instead it either tries to log on to the other WiFi network I have in my house (don't ask), even though that's weaker and MAC blocked for the unit. And if it doesn't find that, it just stays on "searching". And even when searching it don't show the WiFi icon, it shows the GPRS icon all the time. So for my unit this is a dead end. If anybody else tries this and doesn't have problems, I will have to do a hard reset and see if it's some kind of third party program that creates this problem.
Second, I want them on like I always have had them on with my four last PPCs since I have a wireless network both in my house and in my car, and I control music, lights and a lot of other stuff in the house and music in the car with it. Besides when I'm driving I always use TomTom to warn me of speed cams. And I have charging in both my cars, on both my motorbikes and in my home office (I run a translating business from home). So I'm never far away from charging and never have problems with the battery, and finally I use WiFi a lot more than I use the phone part, with NetRemote controlling the house, and surfing.
where is the file
where is the program can be found.
http://oz.sciox.org/ozbt.html
But no my system it's trying to connect to the wrong network every time. If I turn on the WLAN manually I don't have that problem at all, it connects to the default. I'm starting to think that the program forces the driver to check for the default network to early, before the network card is ready, then gives up on that and start looking for other networks a few seconds later, which is when the network card really is ready to connect.
I was on a trip yesterday and I noticed that when I turned on flight mode, it also turned off Bluetooth. I have a bluetooth GPS receiver that I use with my Alpline but wasn't able to in the plane because when I turned off my phone it also killed my Bluetooth.
:?: Is there a simple way to turn of JUST the phone radio, but leave the bluetooth up? My XDA II allowed me to turn off the phone's radio and leave bluetooth up. It just looks like bluetooth, WiFi and Phone have all just been lumped into Flight mode. Is there a system tweak or even a utility? I would be ok with either. Just found this annnoying. Thanks in advance for answering my question.

There's no way that I know to have flight mode on and still be able to use bluetooth, wifi or gprs on the XDAIIi.
I also know that you can on the XDAIIs.
Actually there is.
Check this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=36788&highlight=flight+mode
The interesting part is :
Code:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\HTC\FlightMode]
"IsFMCheckEnable"=dword:00000000
"WarningMsg"="Please turn Flight Mode off first"
Change "IsFMCheckEnable"=dword:00000001 to "IsFMCheckEnable"=dword:00000000
It allows you to use WiFi and Bluetooth while in flight mode. I found about this only minutes ago, and I'm sure glad I did
Cheerio !
I'm pretty sure that on flights it is illegal to use any form of wireless transmission hence BT & WiFi turning off at the same time as GSM. This is because they are all in the microwave band and can allegedly interfere with aircraft instruments.
If all else fails, turn flight mode on, turn BT on, the phone part will ask for a PIN which you must enabled this, select cancel and the phone part will turn off again leaving the BT active.
Thank you Mr_Smoke!
That App Radio Off works GREAT! I knew there had to be a simple fix.
 Bluetooth interference with instruments debunked:
http://www.bluetooth.com/NR/rdonlyr...7E/0/Aircraft_Safety_Report_for_Bluetooth.pdf
:!: Good article where they tested a 727 and 747 with bluetooth devices. They state that both UHF and VHF had a VERY remote chance of interference, but that the threshold would drop off before the device could emit enough power to actually interfere. Communications devices on aircraft have all been shielded and tested to higher energy levels than a simple BT signal from a PDA could push out. The only cavet is that use is prohibited during critical phase of flight (take off and landing) which is when the airlines currently make you turn off your devices.
I love using a BT GPS receiver (I put it up to the window and close the window shade to hold it in place) with Pocket Earth.
http://www.bluepointstudios.com/www/?fuseaction=product.poe
Its a VERY sweet program to show you where you are, direction you are headed, speed, and estimated time to your arrival. The only thing I wish that program had was altitude information which I emailed them as a suggestion for their next revision to their software.

You sure about this Pug? The message says that only emergency calls can be made until the pin is entered, that would suggest that the phone is still functional.
Or is this different to the message/routine at start up?
On a far more important note, I hear your looking at jumping ship to an Universal - what are we going to do without you?
Tom
No need to worry, the missus is having the Alpine for Tomtom etc. A bit of a waste know but it' too big for her for everyday use. I'll still be looking about here in the Alpine section, don't want to let my fans down now.
My bro and I both bought the above units and have upgraded to the GPS rom. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed the unit switches on by itself. We are both experiencing this problem but also have the same programs running. The button lock feature is set on.
That's right. My Trinity is alive, too ;-)
I'm using the dopod rom about one week and I noticed that today for the first time.
There's no application running in the background. It's still alive ;-)
I do not care about this problem.
Hi,
Any software you are running?
Best regards,
Gilbert
Today programs are as follows:
cLaunch
Today Agenda
Battery Pack / Program Bar
PPCProfiles
I will try and eliminate one by one to see if it is software related.
Anyone else using one of the programs and having the unit switch on by itself. This issue bothers me as I see its going to be a drain on the battery.
Activesync may be the culprit
Many PPC WM5 devices tend to turn themselves on. It is usually an Activesync setting that periodically turns on the device and tries to connect to a non existant server. Best bet is to set up a dummy server on Activesync on the PPC, then set the sync settings to Manual, then delete the dummy server.
Sorry if you already have done this, but it certainly solved the issue for me.

My phone seems to do this too, but from what I can see, it is because of bad 3G coverage and the phone has to roam to GSM and back. Only happens at work where I got bad coverage (2/4).
AFAIK this issue is common to ALL devices and all versions.
I understand that you DO NOT TURN THE PDA OFF (Holding the on/off button), just go to "standby". So there are many Apps that tend to "awake" rather than TURN ON your PDA. It's like Sleep mode vs Hybernate in Windows. Agenda or scheduled items may turn your PDA active, even SMS messages that don't fully arrive, phone reconnecting, GPRS or UMTS changing status, profiles that are set to change over time, incoming calls, etc.
I think this is not specific to a certain ROM but to the fact that you have a full time connected and running computer in your pocket....
Hope it helps.

I would have to agree to a point, as I have noticed when PPCProfiles changes automatically to my car mode (bluetooth on) the pda turns on. So you are right that it's programs possibly turning it on but this never happened on my O2 mini (WM2003SE). I'm hoping a new ROM may fix this issue.
I have disabled the "auto switch template" on PPCProfiles which changes over to bluetooth at a certain time of the day and it appears to have stopped the pda turning on by itself. So far so good for 1 day. Curious if anyone else is using PPCProfiles and are experiencing this. Does anyone else use other phone profile programs with switching templates that does not turn on their pda by itself?

You can find the program link below. I never had any issues when using this program on my O2 mini. It still works on my dopod d810 just that I have disabled the auto switch template.
ps the chrome template is the nicest

Correction to my thinking it was PPC profiles. It is actually happening when the bletooth is turned on ( hence ppc profiles switching over to car mode - bluetooth). I disabled ppc profiles and turned on bluetooth and strangely enough the dopod kept turning on.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem when they have bluetooth on?

Mine sometimes turns itself on when it automatically checks my email accounts, but not always. I wonder if it isn't the 3G/Edge switch that is explained earlier. My house is in a 3G fringe area. I believe it doesn't try and wake itself up when the Wifi is on. My Prophet never did this, it would only wake up for an alarm, call, or SMS.
The main issues are reduced battery life and if you have your phone in your pocket and it wakes up, buttons can be accidentally pressed before it goes back to sleep.
When trying to transfer a file from another phone to my Kaiser, if my phone is in standby, the sending phone can not connect and displays transfer failed.
It works fine when my phone is not in stand by and the display is lit up.
Three questions.
1. Is there a setting so the phone will accept incoming BT file transfers when in standby?
2. Is there a way to have the phone automatically accept the incoming file? I.E. Not have to select Yes to save?
3. Is there a way to change the default location that the file is saved to?
Thank you in advance.

Same here, I have to turn it on.. I find I don't have to unlock s2u2 or anything, but it does have to be on.
I think you can change the location in the Bluetooth settings, it's unchecked by default and set to \my documents\bluetooth share or such, I think if you check it and change it, it'll save it to a different place than just \my documents
When the phone is in stand-by its asleep.
Something has to wake it. And that's usually a button press or receiving a call.
To allow Bluetooth to wake the phone the Bluetooth Radio would have to be left on all the time. Depleting your battery much to fast.

I disagree. The Bluetooth radio is indeed on all the time. This is proven by establishing a Bluetooth Dial-Up networking connection to the the phone while it is in standby. Which wakes-up my phone. In addition, one can query the available services of the phone when in standby. Thus the reason I ask why the phone needs to be out of stand by when sending a file to it.
Other BT services can be used or established when in standby mode. Why can't file transfer?
see this thread. The program says that it will allow you to set it to auto-accept bluetooth transfers as well as customize the save location. i do not see anything about when the device is in standby. do read my post at the end of the thread though before install the application. latest version here.
Thanks for the program. But I'll pass. Too many issues as I read it.
i htink all tytns do this as mine does. and so did my universal i think its a security thing so people cant hack the phone while its asleep, (ie if someone wants to do something you screen has to be on so you can see whats happeneing
Hi Everyone,
First post here so hopefully you guys can help. Been doing a lot of reading of the site over the last few hours since I got my Diamond - looks great. Am usually very literate in these things but have always tended to be an S60 guy so now breaking into the WM world properly..
Anyway, there are two things I wanna run by you which I'm sure you guys may know..
1. Battery/3G
As we all know, the battery sucks.. There's no denying that. I refuse to switch from 3G to 2G though cos that spoils the object. I have already conceded by turning HSDPA off and am now on normal 3G as it is. One of the things that can't be good for the battery is that it connects to check emails and then stays connected.. Whereas the beauty of the iPhone for example is that if you tell it to poll your imap server every 15 mins, it connects, checks and downloads and the disconnects. It connects again another 15 mins later.
I've set my Diamond to poll every 30 mins in the hope that it would then disconnect once it has downloaded the emails rather than staying connected for hours and hours at a time to the internet even though it's only checking my email server every 30 mins or so.. you follow?
So, I downloaded Advanced Customisation and have turned off the Auto Attach feature.. But what it does is stop the Diamond auto connecting the first time.. but then once it's connected, it stays connected to the internet.
You follow me?
Basically, I want a way for the phone to disconnect from the net when it has checked for messages then reconnect when it's time to check automatically again. Rather than staying connected or me having to switch to a manual check. Is that possible guys? Maybe that will help with the battery.
2. GPS/Battery
Other thing I heard was that if you go into the GPS settings and change the program port from Port 4 to None, then it saves on battery life. Only downside is that you then have to fiddle with the settings before you fire up Tom Tom or Google Maps. Is there any truth that the phone is always looking for GPS satellites even when satnav software is not switched on.
3. ALARM
Oh actually - there is a third question.
Is there a way of having the phone on silent but alarm clock on so that I can sleep knowing I will be woken up by the alarm but NO phone calls. It's a basic thing in Symbian/Blackberry/S40 but seems to be missing on my Diamond?
Thanks all - i have googled and searched through the forums looking for answers to these questions but had no luck.. Hopefully you can post some answers.
Have a good day and thanks in advance
Phil
I'm pretty sure that just because it's connected ie. the E or 3G symbol on the signal strength bar. It doesn't pull extra juice, extra power is only required to transfer data and not to 'maintain' the connection.
if your area has great 3G connectivity, then you could set the phone to 3G only instead of auto, cause that's what usually saps the power, the phone constantly trying to find the best band when it's feels that the signal strength isn't good enough.

BTW, to set to 3G only, is it UMTS(800+2100) or UMTS(1700) in the UK?

There is an easier way... Just turn down the call volume to zero, leave system volume up. This will keep the alarm ringing, but calls won't bother you.
SMS messages however will also still ring. So if you are afraid of being woken up by those, just turn them off in the notifications setting.
Oh yeah, and don't forget to turn up the volume of calls again after you wake up I missed some calls because of that, hehe.
