Should I buy or not - Shift Development

So I'm thinking of giving my Athena a rest and changing to something else.
I have an offer for cheap Shift but as I have read the device is crippled by default. No surprise there as this seems to be the trend with HTC devices in general.
So is there any news on getting Shift to do actual phone calls with bluetooth headset? I don't want to carry two devices with me.
Hope this doesn't turn into a war like the other threads related Shift and its phone cababilities

Just buy the shift and wait There's no news apart from all the news you already read in the other posts. Believe me, as soon as there's a ROM with voice calling, Shift sales will rise, and this forum will crash under the load of puppy-happy owners.
Do not.. I repeat, do NOT hold your breath. And where is the "war" going on ? I see only consensus here.

Also, bear in mind that it may never actually be possible to make phone calls with the Shift (other than over IP anyway). I'm only saying this because there are an awful lot of people with very high hopes over what will be possible to do with the Shift, but precious little evidence that most of it will come to pass.
My personal belief is that voice calling will be possible at some point in the future, but you'll never be able to use a Bluetooth headset with it because the Bluetooth radio just isn't connected to the WinMo side of the device, but this is only an opinion and not a fact!
Regards,
Dave

Do you wish to have a good PDA ?
- This is not the best PDA "yet"
- Too many risk to take, just to have unsatisfied unlocked feature of PDA "at this moment"
- Too big, better buy HTC Touch Pro or Experia 1
Do you wish to have good UMPC ?
- With good tweaking of downsized the RAM consumption (mine was only 550meg running vista), you will have mediocre speed of UMPC, wanna get faster ? better use XP or Ubuntu
- Still, the speed is not that powerfull compare to other cheap intel atom cpu UMPC
- Need more money to improve the battery life, but your device will get thicker, or real pain by using external charger
Do you wish to have both ?
- By far, you only have 2 choices, either this brick or Dualcor CPC (this peace of sh*t that put shift in real trouble)
Why I buy Shift ?
- Got my sentimental reason, I have old vendetta with Sony UX that is too small to use as UMPC, and I like HTC cause got a lot of friends here to help me out
- Other than that, pure hobby, cause i will use Diamond to get the most of PDA
If only ...
- Can access SD (mine was 16gb sdhc)
- RAM upgrade on Vista
- Accelerometer enabled (at this moment only in linux)
- I dont need video/voice call on shift, what for ??, its too big, sms is enough
Other considerations ?
- Fujitsu U1010 and Diamond
If you got good price offer of Shift, make sure that you really want to take risk by unlocking your expensive device

In Finland you can get HTC Shift for 800€ from one of our service providers. That is correct price for this kind of device, because those limitations (bluetooth, SD-card, Phone). I just ordered one.

Are you pissed off with HTC and their software quality?

There have been many many complaints about the drivers and software for the HTC Kaiser. In particular the bluetooth problems are VERY widespread and about 90% of bluetooth devices work poorly or not at all. The only way to fix this problem is to force HTC in the corner and put pressure on them to release a new ROM.
If you are experiencing problems PLEASE CALL 866-449-8358 for USA
or visit http://www.htc.com/support/care_hotline.htm to find the call center near you. We need to surge their call volume to the point where they escalate these issues to emergency status. The more people that call the quicker a fix will be released.
Also you can call ATT tech support in USA at 1-800-331-0500 and complain to them also. If ATT puts pressure on HTC by limiting sales due to high support costs, HTC will have a huge loss in the USA market.
When you are speaking to a representative ask them the volume of calls they have recieved for your particular issue and post that number here to help intice more people to call.
We have to take matters into our own hands otherwise there will not be fixes for this phone, and HTC will just concentrate on fixing these problems on their new phones currently in development.
I hope the admin for this makes this thread Sticky, because I know for a fact that HTC checks this forum to gauge user satisfaction.
I am not pissed off. Given the amount of features supported, there are bound to be some issues. How is this any different than the new gen of iPods not working with some older accessories? A petition has been started to adddress video drivers. I think this is a good practical step towards a resolution.
In particular, if looking at AT&T, they sell and support tens of different models of handsets, so why would they get all up in arms about a handful of Tilt owners calling.
As far as BT goes, I have not yet tried anything but some BT stereo headsets (3 different models) and they have all worked fine, as does my BT link in my Acura. At the cost of BT headsets these days, I would just find one that works well and buy it.
And in support of HTC, they have produced quite a few additional apps that work quite well such as the home screen, audio manager, photo viewer, comm manager, touch flo (albeit it works much better on the Elf for which is was meant), etc. In many cases, the software is finger friendly and works well.
I think the Tilt is the best device HTC's ever released to date. Sure it's got problems, but I trust HTC to iron them out.
Having accelerated graphics drivers would rock.
I agree, too many easily solved issues with this phone. HTC needs to support this device.
I'm not pissed off at HTC, I'm slightly disgruntled about the video acceleration but I've signed the petition and I have faith that they'll deal with it.
If you look at windows mobile devices in general HTC are the top dog (IMHO), the bigger problem than a couple of little niggling driver issues on a fairly new product is I would say Windows Mobile itself. I wish I knew what was going through their head when they designed it as its usable but nothing special. All credit to HTC for their apps, and more so to some of the fantastic people on here who have created wonderfully usable applications in their free time which improve so much on what MS pay people to do.
All that said I do hope the video issues will be dealt with before too long!
Not really.
I think HTC is one of the best. Every new generation hardware has some issues. I'm sure they are going to release updates to fix the problems. Starting a petition to jump start that process is a good idea.
Honestly...HTC software quality is way better compared to devices from other manufactuers like E-Ten (ugh...), Asus, Gigabyte....even Toshiba!
Nope. HTC seems to be getting better and better. Unless you're using a branded model, I don't know what the carrier did to it.
I'd like to see the video part taken care of, but overall it hasn't been that bad.
Well, aside from the video issue, I'm kinda surprised that few people are complaining about the speaker quality. It definitely needs a working equalizer. Also there are many issues if you try to talk to someone through the speaker in a non-silent place (like driving your car).
Bluetooth has always been touch and go ever since the broadcom stack was replaced with the MS one......
I think it would be a lot more useful if people worked out who was responsible for what...
MS make the OS - HTC tweak it to match their devices and add their own developed apps.
How many people with non-HTC branded Kaisers have the HTC homescreen on their device?
If I was HTC I would actually ignore a thread called "Are you pissed off with HTC" and would go and look for one that was balanced and reasonable in its criticisms.
Wow. Sure are a bunch of enabling fanboys around here. If you bought a BMW because they advertised the power of their engine and they didn't mention that it only came with a 2-speed transmission, would you call that a "niggling" problem too? The reason HTC continues to ignore blatant quality issues and opt for the cheapest, crappiest solutions is because people keep buying anyway, saying rediculous things like, "Well, it's not THAT bad," or "It's a phone first, then a camera." For $700, a PPC shouldn't be "not THAT bad" it should be a quality piece of machinery. Instead, HTC continues to cut corners to increase their profit margins, and 80% of these posts are people thanking them for it. If you're that free with your money (and your standards), please, I'll be happy to take it off your hands too.
i have no faith whatsoever in capitalism - they need to be pressured into doing something otherwise they will just ignore these problems - ive seen it happen time and time again in the past - you must stand for what you believe in

I totally agree !!! At this so high price, we could expect much much more from this device, also when you know that this high price is due to the fact that a lot of hardware is inside, but HTC allows us to only use a small portion of it !
I feel like buying a big house, but restricted to live in only one small room ...

There is already a thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1703056 ) with VERY similar contents so I'm unsure about making this thread another sticky (there have been SEVERAL similar threads - for example, the D3D one - ; then, we would need to make all of them sticky). However, I've linked to this thread from there and, if you REALLY want, you could also ask the thread starter there to link to your thread too.
I'll alos keep an eye on this thread and if it receives a lot of answers / messages, I reconsider making it sticky.
HTC doesn't always release drivers with devices. One of the other members around here was saying it took several months to get a certain driver out the door after they had release some other device.
I think HTC will get us a fix for video drivers, but they're largely at the mercy of Qualcomm, who seems to be having problems finding people to create drivers for them (as is evidenced by recent job postings from them).
I would love the updated video drivers.
But one of my biggest annoyances is the keyboard's inability to properly transmit all the letters I type when I am typing fast. Palm sucks, but I will admit my Treo 650 had the best keyboard/keyboard software combo of any mobile device I've ever used. The error correction was ingenious, and it could take input as fast as I could give it.
Just as extra insight:
All (Y)our posts end up consilidated by reports at HTC's HQ here in Taiwan.
They are extremely busy grasping big chunks of the WM6 PDA market (10 million pieces objecive for 2008) and competing with CHINA.
BENEFIT is the main driver, and, sorry to say, they did not show any pro-active attitude in solving issues or complains.
I could put a copy of some emails between them and me here, though I will not let them "loose face". (loosing face is more shamefull than loosing business, do not forget this)
My BT Headset works Perfect. BT isn't perfect @all, so you can't complain about BT stuff to HTC... HTC Users WM6, and some Components and stuff, I'm sure are based on the OS (else the OS would make no sence). So blaim HTC for the Bluetooth Chaos is wrong and kiddy style. I've always expirienced problems with BT... so why should HTC be the one who fix the whole BT problem.
I'm very hapy with me original HTC Tytn II.
My HTC TyTN II (Kaiser) works 100% reliably with my bluetooth car kit and my bluetooth home phone adapter, my WiFi network at home and at work, syncs with my work PC running XP Pro and my home PC running Vista.
NONE of this was possible with my previous Nokia N70.
If anyone has SW quality problems it's Nokia, IMHO the Kaiser rocks!

That is exactly what you should do. Why protect HTC - they're in the wrong here and we need to hold the accountable. They need to know that if they won't fix a crippled device, they're going to lose face over it.
No. I am not pissed off.

TyTn 2 Vs Touch Cruise vs Touch dual vs Touch Diamond vs Other?

Hey I am new to the whole smartphone game. My initial plan was to hop on the bandwagon and purchase an Iphone, but after further review there are quite a few phones that serve my purpose's better than the Iphone. I am a college student so as you can imagine pictures and video recording are important too me, as well as video messaging. One of the things also that turned me on to the HTC camp was the fact that I can edit word doc's which you can't on Iphone (such as reports or essay's for school). Another thing I am looking for is a phone with both 3G and WiFi, I know the dual doesn't have wifi but I am also wondering how important is that too the phone. I also plan to play quite alot of movies (and of course music) on my phone. This will also be used to manage pretty much, my life as it will be my own personal assistant in every way possible. My desire is so that I don't HAVE to update my phone for quite a few years. I know the diamond doesn't come out for a few months, I can wait if need be. Now this is the catch, I am an at&t gophone customer so perferably I would like to get an unlocked phone of whichever of these phones are the best (at&t doesnt support prepaid use of at&t tilt, fyi) but I may just get a plan (and give them the damn 500 deposit, grrrr) if NEED be. I am also a big fan of touchscreen so I would love for whichever of those phones that has one of the better models/ easier use of it. Also I just moved to a new city so of course a GPS nav. would be great.
Anyways post away, thank you in advance for the help guys.
If you want a full keyboard get the TyTn 2
If you want something slightly slimmer with no keyboard get the Touch/Dual
For the most part you can emulate the Touch apps on the TyTn 2...so you kind of get the bet of both worlds.
However since your first inclination was for the iPhone I gather one of two things (or both):
1) You are an "apple" person and therefore probably don't want to tinker with your stuff to get it to work right for you.
2) You are concerned with looks and graphics above all
If either of these are the case I would wait for the Diamond as it really does appear to be much more fluid and you won't need to tinker to get it iPhone-esque. Of course, by the time they release it there will be hints of even newer device coming...
Cliff notes?
Dude, add a poll!
it really depends on your personal taste. Keeping the diamond off this review the tilt is the best among the other available options imo. I love having a full qwerty keyboard as texting and writing messages (especially for here ) is easy. The only place where it falls short is graphic and video drivers, note that i didn't say anything about hardware which is perfectly capable .. just need better drivers.
Anyways it all boils down to personal choice .. the tilt rocks imo.
p.s. CUSTEL there is dude looking for a tilt i recommended you
Well one of my biggest things is going to be both putting movies/music videos on my memory card as well as streaming videos on my phone so - these graphic and video drivers, are they major complications in that? I have read some things on the issues with playing videos on the tilt but was unsure if these have since been unresolved issues.
I am not an apple person, no. Looks I can live without but the graphics of the videos I play as well as the video recordings are of importance. I don't mind tinkering with the phone to get a better phone at all no. That is one of the things I like about these phones are that you can download diff things for them (so I've read). The reasons why I wanted the iphone are simply that, I HEARD the iphone is the best phone out. After further research I have not found that to be the case, especially in my situation. The fact that it doesn't have a video camera NOR MMS are huge faults for me. I loved the fact that it was touch screen, but seeing as there are so many more touch screen phones out there that I didn't know about opened a whole new world too me =].
And yes, the fact that better phones ARE always coming out is something that I have thought about and one of the reasons why I may scratch the diamond off my list =p
Also can somebody inform me on how too add a poll, ty.
The microSD cards are a very good solution for music and videos. Without the graphics drivers, streaming video is not a problem. Also as long as the video is decently sized to the resolution of the phone, playback should not be much of an issue if you use Coreplayer Qtv (not free software). I personally don't like the Tilt (it's too bulky) and think the Cruise is a great device.
The Diamond is another cool device, but the fact that it has no microSD slot and is not a true worldphone (like the kaiser and cruise) are negatives for me. Also I have yet to see what the battery life will be on that device, smaller battery and all. Besides the Diamond won't be out for the Americas for a bit longer.

I think MChapman was being tongue in cheek with his poll suggestion. This topic has been BEAT TO DEATH on this forum and does not deserve to be ever brought up again. EVER. What phone should I pick? Is the Iphone better? Basically no phone does everything well or else there would not be so many phones. You don't seem to want much(laugh) just everything in a small package. The iPhone is a entertainment device with minimal life organization abilities. The Tilt is a hardcore business and life organizer with adequate entertainment functions. Personally I have a Tilt that runs my life and business and an ipod touch that has 16GB of entertainment on it . They both do exaclty what I want them to do.
And if I want an all in one device, I duct tape them together

Well said..... There are so many comparisons in this forum and everyone will have an opinion. Yes, i have the Tilt also and it's the best phone on the planet... (**NOTE** For me that is) Would your "Other" be the SE Xperia X1?
I bet the Touch Diamond's battery life will be very similar to the Tilt and the Touch Cruise due to the Diamond's processor being built on a smaller 65nm process if I am correct. And assuming that the processor consumes the most amount of power in the phone, this new one processor will consume less than the ones in the Tilt and Touch Cruise.
"This topic has been BEAT TO DEATH on this forum and does not deserve to be ever brought up again. EVER."
Oh ok, I didn't know that. I have been looking for people's input on these phones all over the net with minimal results. I am basically just trying to get a sense of what are the strong suits of each phone and on the flip side, what are the negative aspects of each phone and what should I watch out for with either. If anyone of you can point me too reviews or other forum discussions that highlight thats character traits about the phone that would be fantastic.
"Personally I have a Tilt that runs my life and business and an ipod touch that has 16GB of entertainment on it "
Thats cool for you, but personally I am not trying to walk around looking like inspector gadget. That and those are two major investments, especially when you can just get a phone that can hold sd slots (which also scratches out the diamond in my list fyi, ty hambola). Same with GPS and nav, now that your phone can do this it wouldnt make sense too go out and buy ANOTHER navigation system, especially for a student on a budget =] Too be honest also if you can type relatively fast on either one (for editing word doc's) I probably won't even need a laptop =] Just one simple phone would make my life a whole lot easier, man how I love technology.
You know, after further review of each phone I have decided not to get either of the phones. Each one has its own little draw backs that nag me too the point that I don't really want to purchase the phone. Hopefully the Xperia is amazing!!! ANyone else know any other good phones that would be up my alley? Thanks guys.

Xperia does not convinced me at all. That's my opinion.
I just saw a video of the Diamond and I have to say it's a lot better than Xperia.
Hey there is a new iphone coming next month with 3g and other stuff, and I'm pretty sure you already know
Anyways...Tilt is a great choice.
Hey I'm thinking on selling mine but.. trust me is a hard choice. I really like the Tilt.
Well one of my biggest issues with the tilt is that it doesn't have a GPS nav in it which blows =[ The diamond doen't offer card slots (???? wtf???) so I can't upgrade memory or put any music/movies on any cards.
The tilt does have a GPS nav in it.
where are all these so called "Touch" apps located?
TYTNII Rocks
I have a TYTN II that rocks my world. It organises my business, and stores enough podcasts to keep me amused while flying (4 hours per week). I don't do video as am well over the porn thing although do watch Big Brother via Planet 3 here in Oz. It's bulk and I;m looking at a Diamond for my son, as 3 here has ceased selling the TYTN II. the Diamond looks pretty smik.

Diamond Alternatives

Ok I am fast moving towards selling my diamond and buying one of those giant brick phones from the 80's seriously....
Ok the killers for me are battery life, poor reception, its laggy and for some reason it hangs up when I try to answer a call too often.
So I'm sure others are thinking the same thing, what are the alternatives everyone is looking at??
The 3g iphone might be an option for me, I know there is not as much software for them but I made the pc -> mac change a while ago and never looked back. Is there anything else worth concidering with 3G and GPS??
It really depends on what is important to you.. does it need to be small? does the OS matter? Does it have to be a 'smart' phone?
You can start by looking here: http://pdadb.net/
You can filter on OS, screen size (vga, qvga) etc
Personally i havnt found anything of similar size and spec. Only the iphone comes close but apple have really locked it down. I can see software being high priced
Also it'll cost a bomb for the tariff - you can't walk into a store and buy it without signing up on the spot. So even if an 'unlock' comes out you're stuck. Unless you buy a prepay one - price not confirmed yet but probably 400 quid on O2.
If the look of the 3g iphone appeals then check out the Samsung i900 Omnia. Be aware though, it is brand new, like the diamond, and like the diamond, will be buggy.
To be honest, if you want a phone that works, don't buy brand new just released models.
How about HTC Touch Pro?
I just sold a 16gb iPhone to change to a Touch Diamond (which should arrive tomorrow). The iPhone is a great piece of kit - but unfortunately Apple made too much effort making it a cool media device, and not enough time making it a phone.
No MMS, Poor SMS features (not able to delete a single text, no idea of text length etc), No Video Recording etc.
I originally sold it to buy a 3G iPhone - but then I found out its exactly the same software - except with GPS and 3G.
Samsung Omnia (SGH-i900) is an alternative. Coming very soon. But still questions re: which 3G bands it will support (but we already know the Diamond is only dual band 3G, so it likely won't be any worse).
toshiba g910
Xperia X1, no doubt¡. I wont buy Diamond because of the lack of KB and the comments here. Then I was going to buy HTC Touch Pro and finally....I fell in love with Xperia X1.....
The Xperia doesn't have Satellite GPS, only Data GPS (A-GPS) -> No Tomtom etc, only expensive Google Maps navigation.
The Samsung i900 seems to be an alternative, but seems to have a weaker backlight of the display in comparison with Diamond or iphone 3G.

from wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A-GPS
"Some A-GPS solutions require an active connection to a cell phone (or other data) network to function, in others[2][3] it simply makes positioning faster and more accurate, but is not required."
i beleive this statement is incorrect. agps is more faster and trys to get your position by downloading data from internet
Just my 2 cents:
Death before getting iphone.
Remember boys, Second best they are!
Samsung Omnia, if you want WM one with good features. Only two things that really bother me about it - Samsung propietary connector and lack of proper hard reset (so if you install something bad that prevents booting of OS, you screwed and will have to visit a service center for re-flash).
If you dont care about WM, consider the new iPhone 3G. Its less feature-packed, however price is better too.
Or just wait for something from E-Ten.
Or for Google Android devices
i'll buy a brick if.......i''ll know that is supported here and it will have a sub-forum here, at xda-dev.!!!!!
now serious i found a little funny an futile to open here, in diamond's forum a thread about "i sold my diamond, what to buy instead".
each rom i flash, each tweak i add i like more and more my diamond.
generally speaking please stop posting completely useless post, and stop responding. each time you respond you "bump" it in the detriment of other post that are dealing with important technical stuff and help ppl in distress here. i know, i just did that but for a good cause...lol
we have more important things to do than considering witch new pda to buy and replace the diamond.

Kaiser/Tilt worthy upgrade?

Any Tilt or Kaiser owners plan to upgrade to the Touch Pro 2? Does it seem like it would be a significant upgrade? I'm curious to what you fellow Tilt/Kaiser owners think...
I have the Tilt and have not upgraded to the Fuze. I was waiting for the next big thing that ATT was potentially was going to bring over and it seem like this is it. I love the device's design in every aspect; looks amazing physicaly. What i don't like is that they stuck it with a 3mp camera (and removed flash!). I absolutely love the 3.6" screen. Basically, i'm pretty sure i'll be upgrading (i saved my contract upgrade and rejected the Fuze for this reason).
Yeah, I'm going to buy Touch Pro2, the reasons why, larger screen, better hardware, 5-row keyboard, looks very very cool, more finger-friendly.
iphone. if lack of a hw keyboard is not a deal breaker. After owning 2 winmo phones (currently using a tilt) and modding many other peoples iphones, i can honestly say that the iphone is superior in usability/apps/stability. after drooling for a touch diamond and then hearing my friend say its laggy after he bought it, was a real disappointment. Microsoft is really behind the curve in the mobile sector. Thinking about selling my tilt for iphone now. Might wait till winmo 7 to come out before purchasing another winmo phone. For the record i'm a pc guy and i think apple products/fans our generally pretentious and kinda douche-ie (not all though).
Not sure about the Touch Pro2. I rarely .. if ever use my keyboard. I am waiting on the HTC Topaz for ATT..... drool.
I'm probably gonna go for the TP2. 800x480 screen!
They only issue i see with the device is that they've removed the d-pad.
HTC looks like they've put every good feature into this device, from FM Radio to TV Out. It looks perfect, and although a faster processor or a DPAD wouldn't hurt. And a 6.5 upgrade sounds good as well. I am certainly getting this phone.
Dave
good thing i passed on the fuze too...The Touch pro 2 will definitely be up there on my next phone list...And this will probably be the real successor to the tytn ii...I think it also matches the specs we had a few months back on the then phantom "TILT 2" that never showed up...until now...
TP 2.... is it worth sniffing at?
Does anyone know if it'll have proper 3D and 2 D DirectX and Direct Draw drivers included? I'm not wanting a HTC customised menu so much as full native support of the built in hardware within the operating system and parts thereof such as Pocket Mediaplayer itself. I'd like to use video playback without having to slash the frame rates and/or resolution as I have to with my Kaiser (even under TCPMP).
I'm concerned to read that although it has GPS support, it doesn't appear to list what software is provided to use this in the UK/Europe. Does this mean that it could be the TP all over again with HTC refusing to acknowledge any GPS problems that may crop up? Without a tried and tested native GPS app bundled with the device, it won't be one for me.
I'm very tempted - but I think I'll have to wait until I actually can put my hands on one in a shop to decide. I fear I will find it too large and/or thick for my liking. The Tilt is thick, but small. The iphone is large to the point I feel mixed with regard to the size in the pocket/screen comfort balance, but at least is thin. The TP2 will be large AND thick. And it loses the DPAD indeed, and I use that a lot
only a few people think it would be a worthy upgrade?
What's that saying, once bitten....

If those who currently have Kaisers (or TPs for that matter) get a feeling of déjà vu with the 'finished' product and its shortcomings (video drivers, keyboard performance, GPS time to lock and any lag, important bits/features missed out etc) then yes, you are correct. HTC need to learn from its mistakes and provide a product that actually meets peoples needs fully and reliably if they want those who've already been stung by them to part with cash on a new HTC product. Many people here have already said they'll never buy another HTC product due to all the problems they've had so you get an idea of the extent of feeling about such things!
I'm planning to get the TP2
- Higher resolution big and wide screen
- Larger battery
- Faster processor
- More internal memory
- 5 row keyboard
- TV out
- USB OTG
- New TOUCH FLO 3D with larger soft menu screens
- WM 6.5 (when HTC will make it available)
I'll miss:
- D-pad
- Jog wheel
- Buttons!

Or, there are people like me who are really happy with the Kaiser, and for whom it would take something really good to warrant a change. As said, I'll see the TP2 when it's there, but until then I don't plan to change at all.
If the cookers start cooking good roms and it can be unlocked ok then yes it looks lovely

Getting new phone, reccomendations?

Hi.
I need a new phone, as i just lost my motorolla A920, AND permanetely bricked my Universal (very bricked, very dead, no bootloadermode or anything). I was looking for something unlocked, perhaps around the 300-400$ mark.
I want something with an X-scale processor, VGA screen, and perhaps maby a real GPU (useful gpu a.k.a not ATI's imageon(as i have never found one program that actually uses it.)). QWERTY keyboard would be cool, but not vital. Support for SDHC or Compact flash woud be preffered. And windows mobile . And working drivers *Stares at HTC Diamond*. (Isnt it a shame the Axim isnt a phone )
Im in australia, sydney-ish area, incase anyone here wants to sell me one (would only be pickup)
Was looking on eBay, may be possible to pick up a O2 Xda Flame for 400$. Its big but that doesnt bother me (at all), and i could buy a bigger/more batteries, as not hugely concerned about battery life (i can charge it everyday if needed). Must be unlocked, no plan, just buy outright.
Anyone have any suggestions/reccomendations?

Visit the marketplace section, you´ll find a large variety of HTC phones for selling, even some members from Australia
Good luck,
Well I'll have you know my next phone is going to be a nokia n82. The thing is blazing fast, it can play quake 3 at 25fps, every game and emulator you can imagine, the camera is great, extremely fast shutter speed, xenon flash.
it's just a basic candybar phone, packed with lots of features.
But as far as windows mobile, I dont know. I've pretty much given up on windows mobile until there is something fast. WM is kind of behind in speed versus other devices and OS's.
Thanks for the increadibly fast replies.
That nokia looks a little too... 'generic nokia' for my taste. The A920, Universal (and that Flame) look better for design (because they do, thats why). And i would prefer WM, none-the-less. Im not concerned about the camera (forgot this part in the first post). it doesnt even have to have a camera, i never used it on the other phones. the phone is not limited to HTC.

I would rather get it fixed, but i dont think there is any hope in hell of fixing it without some specialised equiptment or something, it does nothing except for the 2 status lights flash. Tried bootloader/hard reset mode, just doesnt do anything. Would appreciate some help to get it back to life though, its just so cool.
If i could trade it in for another phone (or reduced cost for the phone) than maby.
The flame will work in australia right? If so is it a reliable phone. Im aware of its size.
If it does work in australia and can get it at the right price, i will, but in the (very likely) event that i cant, i would want to know what people would reccomend.
As a backup i was also eyeing a HTC TyTN, perhaps not as powerful, but looks decent. Although if i cant get a flame, i would really want a universal (a working one). Its just so cool full stop.
Also, im also known as bobisgod... if that rings any bells...

from IRC?
Tried the universal bootloader again (and again (and again)) and still nothing at all on the screen, only the status lights flash.
Will look at the flame now, or as a backup TyTn. any other ideas on phones / places to buy flame in australia / ideas to get universal back to life?
