OK i've searched and not really come up with a good answer on this one. I have a tilt and when i try to access at&t's roaming partners networks they are not listed. I try the following (btw it is a locked tilt)
go to settings ... connections ... connections .. click on advanced ... click on select networks ... and than sepcify the network you want to use.
at this point it only shows at&t's network. i put the sim in my unlocked razr and i can see and register on the roaming network with a full set of bars. the reason i want to do this you might ask is that i get 1 bar sometimes on the tilt and most of the time 0 but the roaming partner has a tower right there. is there any way of unlocking this feature without unlocking the phone?
thanks
your phone is probably locked on at&t network
try sim unlock

anyone know a definite on this? I asked about leaving the country and having the phone unlocked by them and they were happy to do so but said that it would void any and all at&t and HTC warranties i have. I didn't want to do that just yet.

Hi,
I have an Att tilt (stock) and at work I loose phone signal.
I had a similar issue with my sprint phone and phone service. When the setting for “roaming or sprint network” was set to “automatic” I would loose signal all the time. Instead for the phone locking into the roaming stronger signal (Alltel) would try to lock into the sprint weak signal all day (going in and out resulting in lost calls). When I had that setting to “roaming only” it would lock into alltell (the stronger signal) with 5 bars.
On the tilt when I go to phone/settings/network the only option is “find network” and that option looks for att and not anything else. Is there a way to force my att tilt to roam only and therefore lock to the alltel network (very strong signal)? Or expose all the available networks and choose which one I want to lock in?
Thanks for all the help, this is a great forum
cannot locate different networks
im having the same problem. phone has bad at&t signal. I cannot locate a diferent network.
Forcing roaming with tilt
I guess the question is…Is there a way to force roaming only in a stock att tilt?
Thanks,
Bump
Anyone?
Thanks for the help
Bump again....I want to know the same thing. I have free roaming, but I can't get it to roam.
PRL file
Bump
Does the phrase “PRL file” provide any help?
Is this an editable file that can solve the issue?
Thanks

I'd like manual n etwork selection as well, but you may be roaming and not know it. AT&T sets up all their phones so it looks like you are on your native network, even when you're not. I had bypassed this and enabled manual network search on all my Motorola phones, I'd like to do the same here with my Tilt.

i suggest setting the band in settings/phone to wcdma. Try it.

I don't have that setting. AT&T removed it. In 3G mode the field test doesn't do much. In GSM mode it seems to work well.

The stock HTC ROM allows this, but it didn't seem to do anything. I know because the ATT HSDPA network is available at my house (barely), and when I lose it it switches to a full signal Edge.
But! If I switch to GSM it seems to lock to the much better Edge signal at my house instead of the HSDPA. That works for me, but will it limit my signal elsewhere?
I had the same problem....the network found was AT&T all the time and no signal, so I place the Sim in a friends Nokia with manual network selection and choose T-MOBILE, place it back in my tilt...problem solved !!
Note: I'm an international user, only use roaming when in USA. But this may help you guys !
For some strange reason my phone thinks I am roaming when i'm not and keeps warning me about additional data charges everytime I check my email. I tried to choose my provider from the dropdown list but there are no Canadian providers listed..... and yes I am in Canada. I don't mind the warning so much but it also won't connect automatically and check my email. How can I fix this?
thanks.
Hi Dongetti
Welcome to XDA-Dev
Your question is fine, but it would be better placed in the regular Kaiser forum as it does not related to Upgrading/Development.
I will move it to the Kaiser Forum with an expiring (6hrs) redirect from the Kaiser upgrading Forum. So by tomorrow you will know where to look for it.
Cheers
Mike
Where in canada do you reside? are you close to a border of some kind?
Roam?
I have that same (problem) with my 8525, after I got the Tilt I added a second line and even though the phones have shared minutes and are billed together the Hermes still thinks it's roaming when the Tilt doesn't.
I called the carrier and she told me it was a fix on their end and that I would have to call back to customer service, it's not the phone or ROM.

I'm running Dutty's WM6 on AT&T Tilt, in Toronto on Rogers, works fine.
Thanks for the replies....
By the way, i'm running Sleuth 1.0 on AT&T tilt and no I don't live anywhere near the US border.
I'm having the same damn problem. In the morning there's a stupid triangle up on my today screen. Is that what you are talking about?
No my problem is this:
go to control panel (start -> settings ).
Then go to the connections page.
Then tap connection setup, it will give you a list of Countries to choose from and and then a list of providers below that. The problem is that my provider is not listed and that makes the phone think i'm roaming when I am not. Even though I enter my connection settings manually it won't connect 'automatically' to check my email. Therefore, I have to go in and send/receive manually to see if I got any new mail and it always warns me that i'm roaming(when i'm not) and checking my email may result in data charges.
That's not your problem, you can always manually configure your connection settings to your carrier's.
The problem is that your phone think's it's roaming based on the wireless signals from the tower...
dongetti, probably you're using fido sim?
if that's the case, then it's not fixable. As you know since Robbers acquired Fido, they have integrated the tower. But for some reason, the code for fido was being left in your sim (they don't change it to Robber's code). No other choice than to use Rogers signal, since that's the only one available now anyway.
Are there roaming charges if it is roaming between rogers and fido? even after the merger?

No there wont be any roaming charges.. for more info on this check the fido section in the howard forums website, also you can check with fido's customer service about this issue
i've been with fido for about 3 years now with an unlocked phone right from the start and every phone i've had has the little roaming symbol at the top, but i've never seen any roaming charges on it yet
Hi everyone. I have been doing a tonne of reading trying to figure out a couple of things for my Treo 750.
It is a Rogers phone for which I paid an online service provider to unlock. I am using my FIDO SIM in it without any problems.
It says I am always roaming and although assurances from FIDO I won't be charged Roaming fees, it gets kind of annoying everytime I check my email that it tells me I am roaming and asks if I am sure I want to do this....
So, I understand there is carrier specific info in the carrier.pxp file. I am told the Rogers network code is in this file.
Am I able to edit this to include the FIDO network code 302370 so the phone doesn't think it is always roaming?
Would it be better to unbrand / unlock the phone to WM6.1 via the methods I see here in the forums? [dubLeE's method].
Thanks everyone,
Ryan
It has nothing to do with your phone. It's the fact you are using the Fido GSM card on a Rogers network. It has nothing to do with whether your phone is locked or unlocked, and changing the carrier code won't do anything.
To disable the roaming network check when you check email, from Outlook Mobile go to Tools -> Options, choose the email account you've setup, then go to Send/Receive Schedule -> Advanced Settings -> check "Use automatic send / receive schedule when roaming"
Hi number16. Thanks for the reply.
The "Use automatic send / receive schedule when roaming" doesn't seem to prevent the "You are currently roaming. Synchronizing may result in additional charges" dialog box when the schedule is set to manual. In fact, the checkbox is greyed out and not selectable with a manual schedule. Even with an automated schedule configured, you are still prompted when doing a manual send/receive.
I was thinking that if the phone was configured such that it thought its' home network carrier code was the FIDO code, it wouldn't consider me roaming.
Anyways, sounds like I am stuck with it. Thanks again for the info
I have the exact same problem with my work Exchange email on a Rogers Touch Diamond. The roaming has to be defined by the ROM or registry. When I put my Fido SIM in a Rogers Samsung Jack flashed with the Fido ROM, there is no issue with roaming.
Hi there,
Same issue here, I am using my unlocked Treo 750 from Rogers on Bell network.
It works fine, except for the roaming issue.
How to get rid of that triangle icon on the top?
Were you able to edit the carrierDB.pxp file?
Please help.
Did you change your network settings over to the correct settings for the network of the SIM card you are using?
Unlocking a phone will allow other SIM cards to work, but if you don't change your network settings, then the phone will still try to connect to the Rogers network.
How do i unlock the network, i have a samsung corby phone which is rogers based and am using a fido sim card. Everything works except the internet which comes up as network error. please let me know if you can help. email- [email protected], thank you.

This is a Palm Treo 750 forum. You should find a forum specific to your handset for exact instructions.
In general, your phone probably has a 'Settings' menu which would have some sort of option to edit your network settings. That's where you would make the change. You would have to get the proper settings from Fido.

If I have the APN set to the one for the network of the SIM Card I am using then will I not get charged roaming?
Is it possible for it to actually be roaming and me not knowing about it?
I own a t-mobile version of the nexus one. I can connect fine to their network with no problem, however i do find myself in a complete t-mobile dead zone sometimes. When im at that location other people with AT&T devices have pretty good service. I noticed that in the Wireless & Network settings -> Mobile Networks -> Network Operators, it does find AT&T on there. However, when trying to connect to it, it gives the following error:
"Your SIM card does not allow a connection to this network"
At that location, i was also with someone who had t-mobile with a Motorola Cliq, who was able to access this AT&T network without a problem (although it was a G connection)
Is there something i can do to access this network with my phone and sim card?
Maybe some sort of sim unlock code i need to get from t-mobile?
same here/..
actually.. im having that problem right now! O.O;
I have full bars yet i can't send txt msgs or call anyone.. and when i try to turn on wifi it says updating wifi then turns off... wtf?
anyone have any ideas?
Are you on a pre-paid account? Sometimes the pre-paid accounts do not support roaming (even though you aren't paying roaming on a contact account).
Also; it depends on the freq of that network. Ummm; if the phone is unlocked or not.
There could be a number of issues. You could try and call T-Mobile and ask them. But it just could be that it's At&t and that specific area might not be roaming enabled.
Just my 2-cents.

Check your logic. I'm sure that roaming would be enable in big NYC. WE are in two different areas also. Plus I am on postpaid. Also the phone is QUAD band, it does not need 3G to roam on AT&T EDGE network...come on now.
I ended up contacting google phone support about this. The tech i spoke to on the line was able to recreate the issue.
When he contacted t-mobile support for us t-mobile said basically if they own the property rights for the area you're in (disregarding your signal strength) you are unable to connect to any other network. If you are outside of a t-mobile coverage area, you are then able to roam.
I have a quite rare problem. I'm in Ireland and use 3 operator. It does not have coverage on many places and it has some kind of contract with o2, so whenever the signal it lost, phone automatically switches to o2. Problem is when I'm back in place with full 3 coverage again, WP does not switch back. I have to select network manually several times a day. It's very annoying. Is there an option somewhere in settings to disable roaming completely? I found it only for data but I need it for calls. Phone is Lumia 920.
Thanks

I imagine specifying your network provider as "3 IRELAND" or whatever it's called will stop it from connecting to O2? The setting is under Mobile Network (under the roaming options, at the bottom) and is set to "automatic" by default.

First thing I tried, but it did not help. Maybe problem is that the other network has same name - probably to ensure seamless switch. (it's actually Vodafone, sorry for my mistake: http://www.vodafone.ie/aboutus/media/press/show/BAU002953.shtml )

I'm not saying I'll be able to help, but could you elaborate a little on why roaming comes into this? Are you changing countries between two places where the operator is called "Vodafone"?
Don't forget to help on my Bing Vision query

No I don't. It's actually a funny thing. I live in Dublin and yet you can find here many places without signal coverage. I think, but not exactly sure that 3 is the last operator who entered on a market here, so it does not have proper infrastructure and negotiated with Vodafone national roaming for places where native 3 signal is not available. In general it's not a big problem, you can make calls like in your home network, price is same, you can even see on your phone you are connected to 3 network but with a roaming. (because in fact you are connected to Vodafone)
I'm trying to disable roaming completely because mobile data on the roaming are just GPRS while in native 3, you got 3G.
It would not mind me if phone would automatically switch back on 3 when available. (when I had WP 7 it was doing like this) But now with WP8 the behavior seems to be changed and as soon as it enters the roaming it never reverts back to native network unless I manually select the 3network again.
