lost data after WM6 froze!! - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hi all,
I saved loads of information on my tytn II during the summer. Very important files (notes most often). I was stupid enough to let WM6 store this on the main folder instead of the micro SD card.
Earlier this evening, I tried to use the camera and the phone froze (classical...) so I pressed "reset". Except it never really restarted! I could just reach the WM6 picture on the screen and it would stay there for ages... until a white screen with black text made it clear that a program was running while i'd pressed reset (i really doubt it, i hadn't launched anything), and that i'll have to press reset to recover the initial configuration of the phone (OUCH). I pressed reset just once (too scared to do a hard reset, im not crazy enough yet) but it still does the same thing, gets locked on the WM6 screen but never shows the damned white screen with the terrible message.
Is there any (even very expensive) way to retrieve the data? I hope it's not lost... I don't give a damn if the phone is a brick, i just want the data!
Thanks for your help guys, im a newbie and im really starting to hate WM6.

hi again...
I used bootloader thinking it could save my files with it (i don't think so!) and now it gets stuck at the "smart mobility" screen with the red serial numbers... it doesn't even reach the windows mobile screen (used to get stuck there before I used bootloader).
Please help

do you guys think i'll lose my data if I flash it (meaning i reinstall windows with a new ROM with bootloader?).
I've never flashed the device... Haven't used any ROM either, simply because i don't know how to do that.
thank you

I called HTC and they told me that reflashing would make me lose all my data... What can I do? Please help, no one has bothered to answer...

If you have an SD inside when trying to boot, take it out and try again.
Sometimes a faulty SD can prevent startup.

having major problems with my tilt

stock rom and everything, just no bloatware.
this morning it worked perfect, about 2 hours later is all retarted.
1)the backlight is dim and doesnt get as bright as its supposed to unless i plug it in
2)when i slide the phone open the screen doesnt flip the other way
3)getting multiple "cannot execute" errors of clocknot.exe, repllog.exe, calnot.exe. these pop up and i have to click OK 20+ times and less than a minute later they came back on again. actually now i cant even get them to go away.
4)i left my phone alone for a while after realizing something was wrong with it and when i came back to it was just constantly vibrating, i dont know for how long but it killed 60% of my battery.
software i installed is just your basic stuff, tomtom, touchflo cube, htc touch dialer and touch today setup, htc home customizer and battery status and i think thats pretty much it.
anybody have any idea on what might have happened? like i said, the phone worked perfect this morning. i put it down, went a swim, came back and it wasnt working right so i did a soft reset and it didnt fix anything. i put it back down, took a nap, came back and it was vibrating and then i did another soft reset and thats when i got all the error messages. so i did another soft reset and still doesnt want to work.
wait, now for some reason it seems to be OK after another soft reset. I DONT GET IT.
so now i received and sent a text message and then closed the phone, it locked and turned the screen off. i then put it on the charged and the screen wouldnt turn back on now matter what button i pushed. but the lights on top blinked and when i opened it the keyboard lit up. so once again....another soft reset
you probably should hard reset your phone. but be aware that it will erase evrything on ur phone and return it back the way it was, so backup ur info
Yes, I second that. Make sure to back up your data before hard-resetting, though, as you will lose it all (contacts, files, everything).
To hard reset the phone, press and hold the two soft keys (buttons on the front that have a dash on them; next to the send and end buttons) while pushing the stylus into the reset hole in the bottom. If you do it correctly, a white screen will come up asking you if you want to do this, and just follow the steps until it is finished.
Please post back and tell us the result.

Use the latest version of "SPB backup" to backup all data before you hard reset and you restore the all applications after a hard reset or even a ROM Upgrade.
P.S: I don't work for SPB... I just like the software

Don't just back everything up as you may just re-introduce the problem on restore!
Back up your contacts and volotile data only (sync it with Outlook if you use it).
Hard reset and then install 1 app/util at a time and test the device each time to check stability.
Hang on a second...
Before you hard-reset...
Open your favorite file explorer application (I use GSFinder, but the default WM6 File Explorer should be fine), and browse to the Storage Card folder. If there's more than one, keep reading.
I store lots of applications on the microSD card itself, and I often take the card out of the Tilt, and put it into a card reader for faster file transfer. Sometimes, this results in the Tilt thinking I have multiple microSD cards when I put it back in. I haven't quite nailed down what causes this (I haven't searched, either, the answer might be on XDA-dev somewhere).
The end result is, the Tilt is looking for stuff that isn't in the /Storage Card folder. Instead, the phone recognizes the card as /Storage Card2 or /Storage Card3.
I have run into the EXACT same problem you've got, with the same errors. Every time, I've been able to correct it by removing the physical card, and then deleting all the /Storage Card (1,2,3) folders that are still on the phone.
After you do that, just insert the card again, and it will be recognized as simply /Storage Card without any numbers after it. Now the applications will work properly, as WM6 will be looking at the right folders.
ok sorry, havent been back on. phone was working great until last night and then it started acting up again. after multiple soft resets it started working fine again this morning.
there is only one storage card listed so thats not my problem but thank you for the idea.
looks like ill just take any stuff of the phone i want when i get home and do a hard reset. do they replace these phones for software issues with a stock ROM?
happened again, should i try to see if they will replace the phone?
anyone know if i need to call to do that or do i need to go to a certified at&t place?
If you are using the Stock ROM and have performed a hard reset and it still has problems then return it under warranty.

There are no more certified ATT places around here, everything is by phone and mail. If it is still under warranty thats what I would do if you are unsure of it's long term condition.
i am still stock ROM. it locked up on me again yesterday and i did a hard reset. hopefully it wont happen again. i dont feel like customizing my phone from scratch yet again

i have tried every thing in the worlddddddd
vol down and enter both at same time then reset it then took the pin out kept my fingeres on bol down and enter key and it just goes to touch diamond screen the first one doesnt hard reset
Problems, problems, problems....
Firstly, Windows Vista does have ActiveSync... it's just 'under the skin' of Windows Mobile Device Centre.
If, as you say "It just stopped working" and you haven't done anything, the obvious answer is to get it replaced or repaired under warranty. The Diamond only came out last May, so none of our devices are out of the one year warranty period.
What's more likely is that you've tried to flash a ROM to your device without reading and understanding how to go about it. Either way, you need to search the 'Diamond ROM development' forum... you will definitely find an answer there.
Just one more thing, without trying to give you a lecture (which I often end up doing without intension ), you'll get a better response from the forum users if you keep your posts short and 'to the point'. Asking a load of questions all at the same time just puts people off wanting to help... very time consuming is this!
I appologise for the rant, I really am trying to help

Can i recover it???

Hi everyone, this is another midnight that i spend to find a way to recover my new used phone.
Please, really please, help me.
This is the problem:
A friend gived me his Tytn ii phone.
W.M 6.* .. i can't remember the right version.
this is what i did:
1) unistalled skype
2) re-installed skype
3) unistalled ohoner
4) installed winterface
5) uninstalled a register tool.
6) my memory stop at this point...
It stayed alive a couple of day and now.. STOP!!
it doesn't boot anymore.
This is what "he" do:
0) He vibrate
1) T-Mobile logo (he was germany)
2) RGB information
3) Black screen
4) HTC animated logo
5) Maya v1 logo (with his stone face)
6) STOPPPP
Sometime it looks like alive, if I open the phone the screen change, and stand out a lot of colored lines .
Sometime if a press all the keys i can press, appear the alignment wizard.
I try to align, and after a white screen, phone blocks.
I only want to recover my friend's contacts.. nothing else.
If i'll could do, i could think to rebuild the flash... BUT....
but but but but... but i need you!!!
i still belive...
maybe in a htc center,,,
what do you think about?????
thanks a lot
Malteni.
If you can't boot, I don't know that there is anything you can do. Can't even flash the ROM without being able to sync.
So, there is no way to recovery "my" contacts...
Maledizione....
I have to say something on that too. First: You can flash a ROM using the bootloader only. That works and will surely recover the phone. But the contacts will be lost then.
Have you tested Active Sync? Sometimes it is in the align screen windows and you can already use Active Sync then. I'm not sure about the Device Center Vista uses. Try to get the phone connected maybe it works.

PC crashed during flashing, recovery!

Hello
Ive finally got round to putting new radios and ROM on my diamond, a year after buying. Didnt want to before now incase i cocked it up (theres a lot of things to remember!)
Hard SPL went fine and i was putting the new radio on (1.00.25.05 in this case) when, at about 80% of the way through the install my pc froze (as its having a habit of doing at the most awkward times recently!)
I soft reset the diamond but now its at what i assume is the bootloader screen (?), its got red, green, blue and white bars and various writing, along with a message saying 'Upgrade ROM code error Please try again'
I had a hunt round and found something for another device saying how to get it back by loading a factory ROM through the bootloader menu but i dont know how to do this as i dont have a connection to activesync (phone wont go beyond this screen) etc.
If someone could explain in relatively simple steps it would help!
I should also clarify that the only way i can get this screen off is to remove all power but as soon as i put power back on it loads up direct to this screen again!)
When you device is in bootloader mode, you dont need active sync connection. just run the update utility and it will work without it, as it uses different drivers when connecting.
This turned out to be quite easy actually, i stumbled across the answer somewhere else!
Thanks for the help

[Q] HTC One stuck on 'HTC One' boot screen after update

Hello everyone,
My HTC One M7 is stuck on the boot screen and I really don't know what to do anymore. Yesterday I deleted some music and 4gb of pictures from my phone to make some space. After that I checked for updates It said an update was available regarding some bugfixes and other issues. I let it download and install. At the end of the install process, I think I saw just the normal updating screen, but with the red pyramid exclamation mark icon. After that, it rebooted just like normal, first the white HTC screen, then the startup sound, and then the white HTC One screen. Only this time it didn't go further than that. My phone is not rooted or tampered with in any way. The only thing I did is download some cracked apps. Also I think I didn't update most of my apps for 2/3 weeks because I didn't have enough 'memory space' apparently.
I know a factory reset is the easiest thing to do, but if it's possible, I'd really like to fix the problem with all my data intact. My pictures etc are all back upped, and I have the HTC backup thingy (I think), but still, there's some things like WhatsApp messages I'd really like to keep.
I tried to just let it boot, maybe taking a little longer, but after 2 hours, the device gets pretty hot, and I'm afraid to let it overheat. However, after maybe half an hour/hour the white screen gets a bit brighter, indicating that there's still maybe something happening inside.
I'd be very happy if someone could help me with this!

In your phone's present state if you can not get back to Android OS, then your best option is a factory reset. You will lose your personal data on the phone.
Performing a factory reset using hardware buttons
If you can’t turn HTC One on or access settings, you can still perform a factory reset by using the hardware buttons on HTC One.
Press and hold the VOLUME DOWN button and then press and hold the POWER button.
Wait for the screen with the three Android images to appear, and then release the POWER and VOLUME DOWN buttons.
Press VOLUME DOWN to select FACTORY RESET, and then press the POWER button.

To be honest some of those cracked apps (which I wouldnt admit to use here) most likely changed things in the system which caused the update to fail. I would do a full wipe and stay away from cracked apps unless you like things like this happening.

It's just the standard 'a friend told me it was a good idea', only I didn't know it could screw up the system so hard.
I just tried wiping the cache partition in recovery mode, which unfortunately didn't help.
Is there any program out there that can still backup my files in some way or make me atleast access them? Or was it necessary for me to root the phone beforehand?
So, there's no program to still backup my files in any way?

Unfortunately there's nothing you can do, If you had a Custom Recovery you'd have some options but not with stock. Flashing a custom recovery requires an Unlocked bootloader. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the device
At best you may be able to use an RUU to restore your device (depending on you CID, MID and current version Main) But that also will wipe all personal data including the sd card.
Well I realized that the only thing I could do is doing a factory reset. After resetting my phone, the problem persisted. It was still stuck on the boot menu. So unfortunately, I'll have to send it for repairs. Thanks anyways for all the help and have a happy 2015.

Did you send your device for repair already? Does it have warranty? If there's no warranty you can still unlock your bootloader and fix this fairly easily.

Yeah I sent it already. Well it should have warranty anyway, since they give you 2 year warranty with the phone, and the HTC One isn't even out for 2 years. It should be okay. I just wanted to let them fix it, so I don't have to bother. Thx anyway. :good:
