I have done a search and could not find any answers.
While using the Palm Threaded SMS app on SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 my device stopped vibrating and sounding when receiving sms msgs (yes, I had it set to do so). The problem would be fixed on a soft reset but, I found myself soft reseting several times a day. I removed the Palm app to use the standard sms. After a few msgs the problem persisted. I then removed SPB Mobile Shell; again, the problem was fixed but, after a few msgs it started again. I then decided to hard reset in hopes to permenantly fix the problem. That worked for about half a day. I then figured that maybe if I hard reseted and reloaded the standard T-Mobile settings that somehow the sms problem would be fixed. Again, this worked for a cpl hours.
Has anyone had similar problems, or know how to fix it?
The fact that it's happening across multiple ROMs begs the question: What software do you always install?
Other than that, I can't think of anything else other than a hardware issue but that wouldn't fit the description.
Well I always use the standard "out of the box" ROM, I haven't flashed any cooked ROMs. I started out using HTC Home, iContacts, Palm Threaded SMS with the two associated fixes, SkyFire, and the core media player with the flash video bundle. I didn't have any problems with receiving sms msgs. I then got rid of HTC Home and began usig SPB Mobile Shell 2.1. I had that installed for a cpl months before the problem arose.

Well, a third party ROM would net you more free storage, free memory, better performance and built in threaded sms...
yea i know but i'm a lil weary of messing my device up in the process...
but do you have any idea as to what could be the problem?

I've had my Tilt running pretty smoothly on the stock firmware since I bought it over the summer (camera stopped working, but that's a different story). Anyway, I did a backup this morning (SPB Backup), and after the reboot I couldn't get a voice signal. If I pushed the phone button, nothing would happen! Now here's the weird thing: I'm able to get a data connection (was able to get new email), but the phone icon still says no service. Has anybody experienced this before, or know of any fixes? I've soft-booted a few times, but didn't want to hard boot if there was a simpler way.
And yes I did search this entire forum for similar posts, but didn't find any.
Thanks in advance!
have you tried a different SIM from a different operator?
you might want to try a different SIM from a different operator just to be sure your SIM and/or operator is not the problem.
if it works with another SIM, you can be fairly certain that it is NOT a hardware issue...in which case, a hard reset will more than likely resolve your problem.
also, are you able to receive incoming calls? what kind of a message does the caller get in case your phone doesn't even wake up and ring? finally, have you tested sms text messaging? try sending a message to someone and also try to receive an sms text message from someone...these little steps will help you confirm whether or not you are experiencing a hardware issue...in which case you might want to consider having it checked/fixed under warranty.
keep searching...cheers !!!
Happened to me once. I tried everything, but didn't work. If it's under warranty, AT&T will replace it. I went through 3 units in the 11 months I owned tilt.
hmmm have you tried flashing another Radio? (don't know what happened to your camera, but if you've got cam & phone issues, it's worth checking the Radio...
It's happened to me twicw also. This is an SPB Backup quirk. I'm afraid a hard reset is all that's left to do.
Well,
first of check if you're connecting to the correct network AT&T and not accidently logged on to the T-Mobile network - perform a manual network search / selection on your device.
If the above step does not help, try to restore your device with the SPB Backup you made. If that also does not work, well, then ... yeah ... hard reset! I would not really consider a RADIO FLASH on your device since it semmed to be working fine for you before that?
Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I tried doing a full restore of the latest backup (that morning), and that seemed to bring back the phone functionality. However, the restore also eliminated a few of my main programs, which was very weird! So, I did a full restore from the previous backup and tested that one out. Everything was like it should be. Then I did a restore of the latest backup's tasks/appointments (only things that changed), and now I'm back to full operation
As a side question, since I'm running WM 6.0 and want to flash to 6.1, would I be able to do a full restore from SPB Backup... or would that be incompatible with the upgraded OS?
You won't be able to perform a FULL RESTORE. There are a couple of changes in WM6.1, so, just to be on the save side I would suggest that you back up your PIM data, then flash to 6.1, restore your PIM data and reinstall all of your application.
BTW:
I was running WM6.1 on my MWg Zinc II and couldn't find any real advantages other than THREADED SMS. The Pocket IE gets a whole bunch of new bugs (for example Frames in websites are not shown or not shown correctly) and experienced a couple of incompatibilities with 3rd-party software application. If you still want to take a chance, good luck! However, I do not believe that you can go back to WM6.0 once you flash to 6.1!
I wouldn't upgrade to 6.1 if you're running SPB software. I was running 6.1 without problems, then loaded SPB Phone Suite, Diary, and Pocket Plus, and suddenly Garmin XT couldn't locate satellites at all. It took several hard and soft resets, and a visit to the SPB forums to realize that 6.1 could be the culprit, and it was. All problems disappeared with 6.0. There was a post at the SPB forums that *seemed* to indicate that SPB apps hadn't been fully tested--they may have used the word "certified"--with 6.1. Good luck.
No, that's not it -- I'm running the latest versions of all of those SPB titles on a stock 6.1 with no problems.
i have no spb apps on this one and i have the problem...it just can't fix the network
it happened few days ago to a guy that isn't quite familiar with ppcs he somehow turned it off and when he turned it on he couldn't get the network...eventually he hooked up after half a day (i'm not sure for how long did this problem last because i don't know does he use soft reset and flight mode)...so i took the kaiser to test it and to see what happened..i messed with flight mode and SR it couldn't find the net at all
tried wm6 and two wm6 radios
tried wm6.1 and two wm6.1 radios
i'll try android...just to test the module itself..if there are any hardware issues
Ive had my tytn 2 for a little over a month now, and I've noticed something when I'm using the phone for heavy texting. After a while, the phone will more or less freeze. The chime stops sounding for a new text, however, the phone continues to operate, and will recieve calls. Also, when the alert stops sounding, if I close the text messaging and return to the today screen, the screen is all scrambled. I have done a few hard resets now to try and clear the problem. I am going to be unable to return the phone to the place I bought it from, as we had a disagreement over the last phone I purchased through them(long story). The touch screen still works on the today screen, and if you know where to push, it will still open programs, just everything looks like snow....
Now, I have WM 6.1 on it(factory rom) ROM version 3.29.422.1 WWE, the ROM date is 05/20/08. The radio version is 1.70.18.02. The phone is used on a T-mobile affiliate(IWireless) network. The techs there are idiots, and I don't think they could dial with this let alone tell me how to fix it....
My previous phone was a T-mobile MDA, which I did love. I know about using different ROMS, Im just not sure how/which one to use on my TYTN 2. HELP ME PLEASE!
anybody have this problem too? it is getting incredibly irritating. I called tech support last night, and the people that I talked to had no idea what I was even talking about. It almost seems as if there is a lag in the programs. I occasionaly get a screen that is telling me that tmail.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. i let it send the error report, but the text program stays open.
Any help would be appreciated!
have you tried to reflash to the factory rom?
Can you warranty it with HTC?
Sounds like a harware problem -- specifically the cable that connects the keyboard is either loosly connected or damaged.
Try to get service directly through HTC -- but if you can't you might want to open it up and see if the cable is seated properly
im not sure it it is a hardware problem, as the phone will go skitzo on me even if I open the keyboard and leave it open. it usually would only do it when im texting, but it did it today, when the phone was on silent, I switched it back to on, and read a text message(did not open it), and when I tried to close the text and return to the today screen, it froze up again, and I had to do a soft reset. im really thinking its a software issue...
I would try to reflash, I had a ROM on mine that had the same problem, I did a reflash and never had the problem again.
Is there any way that I can do the reflash and still have the pre-loaded settings from my carrier? I'm thinking that I can't, but is there a place that I can be pointed to to get a copy of how to do the re-flash? It's got WM 6.1 Professional on it, and it is a branded copy(maybe part of the problem?). Obviously, I need to take some time to write down all of the settings for internet and such...
Are you talking about the network settings or something else? Most ROM's have a connection wizard that will setup network and MMS settings.
mostly the settings for the mms messages, and the internet settings. when I flashed a new rom to my mda, I had to manually put them in, the auto wizards wouldn't work.
Hi everyone..
I am a somewhat profiecient Tilt user.. had a few windows mobile phones before.. and had my tilt over a year.. I never had any problems with the WM 6.0 rom so I never upgraded it.... But now I ahve a problem... Today my GPS wasn;t locking on so I reset the phone, and as usualy it fixed the problem.. but now my messaging (and email) won;t work...
I have the HTC Home Installed (been installed a long time) and I use the buttons on the clock screen on it to access my MMS and Email... I went to send a txt and it did nothing.. I thought hte phone was froze.. but other stuff works.. I tried email next.. same problem... It also says the MSVC has encountered a problem and that is not working either.. it all happened at the same time....
The real problem is I have my phone EXACTLY how I wanted it.. with this tweek and that tweek... This program and that program.. this setting & that setting... sigh... I have an odd provider (Einstein PCS) so I had to set up all custom MMS, Email, Internet, and other setting that took a long time to get them all just "right"... I thought the SD card may have went, but other software that I know is on the SD card runs fine (including tomtom)... Any suggestions from anyone before I do hard reset? Please.. I don;t want to have to redo everything...

Hi
I have found that when something stops working after installing new software, if I uninstall any software, in the reverse order it was installed, this usually restores functionality. Uninstalling one piece of software at a time and running trials in between uninstallations usually helps to identify the culprit. If you haven't actually installed new software to co-inside with the failure then this advice is no good for you.
For future reference I would recommend using Sprite Backup (I think that the latest version is 6.5 and can be found on their website). With this software you can make a back up of your existing configuration prior to installing any new software. Then, if anything goes wrong you can just hard reset and run the backup file (stored as an .exe file) from the storage card and you'll get back to exactly where you were before the install.
Hope all that helps.
Cheers
andrew-in-woking
Thanks for the advice but I did nto install anything.... I will get that sprite backup though for future use... thank you.... What I did find this morning is this...
http://www.htcwiki.com/thread/107262...&maxResults=20
It seems many other people have had MOST of the same problem... When I followed the directions and deleted the inbox om my SD card, it fixed everything... even the Microsoft Voice command.. no idea how they are related, but it must be.... The only problem is that now after doing all this research on new ROMs, I found one I want to try... now I gotta decide if I want to go through all that work if I don;t have to... I think I will do the sprite backup.. download a default at&T 6.0 rom if I can find one.. then TRY The new rom.. if I hate it.. install the default rom and resotre my settings.. Thansk for you help though

Do you have your Einstein settings. I haven't been able to get my Fuze to connect reliably. I'd certainly appreciate it. Thanks!
Hi all, sometimes when I access the an individual contact's call history touchflo will just crash, restart and send me back to the home screen after it has loaded.
I've tried a hard reset of my stock rom and then changed to a cooked rom (the Topaz ESSentiaL 6.1 rom - very nice btw ) but the problem persists after about a day or 2, although it seems to be less frequent with the cooked rom. It also doesn't seem to have anything to do with the amount or types of calls in the call history - i added a new contact with some made up number that i had no communication with but it has crashed when accessing it's individual call log, and sometimes it crashes with contacts that i have had frequent communication with. But as I've said, it's only occasionally and not every time so I really don't understand.
Anyone with similar problems or any advice? Apologies if this has been discussed before, I did a search but couldn't find anyone with my specific problem.
is there seriously no one who has any input at all?
I think I may have narrowed the problem down to receiving calls form unknown or private numbers - if i go in to the default windows mobile call log and delete all records in the unknown number category touchflo doesn't seem to crash when going in to the individual call logs. I really don't understand why this would be causing manila to crash though. And I haven't waited long enough to see if the problem actually goes away yet.
I have also realised that despite having numerous hard resets and new roms flashed to it (with both wm 6.1 and 6.5), my device still has the same total call duration being displayed in the device information settings window as before. This means there is at least some information which does not get erased during a hard reset. Does this mean there could be some sort of registry key or something else which is causing the problem which does not get erased during a hard reset also?
I have spoken to htc support and they said if a hard reset does not solve the issue I can put it in for a warranty repair. But I bought this phone from from an extremely unreliable ebay seller (despite his good feedback) and don't want to have to deal with him again. I'm also not sure I'd be able to find my stock rom again.

No such problems here...
Tony
I've got the exact same issue. Same as you I can't find any particular rhyme or reason to it though either.
I'm new to Windows Mobile and haven't flashed any ROM's yet (still a little scared) so can't comment on that side of things, and therefore obviously my issue occurs with the stock ROM.
I've been playing with SPB Shell to be honest and am thinking of ditching touchflo anyway but if you find a fix it would be good to hear.
Wow I'm so relieved to find out I'm not the only one. Mine occurred on the stock rom with the only 3rd party apps installed being s2u2 and the ram cleaner and no registry changes or anything whatsoever. But the fact it happens regardless of what rom I am using worries me and I've just kind of given up on a real fix - the only thing that seems to work is switching to the default windows mobile call log and deleting all entries from unknown numbers.
I also use ram cleaner - I wonder if there could be any corrolation there?
You also said that you think it might be something to do with receiving calls form unknown or private numbers - every call I get shows up as 'unknown' even if its from someone in my phone book. I keep meaning to get in touch with 3 to ask them if they need to turn on caller ID or something - but again that could be linked to this issue.
I have problem with SMS delivering. Sending is not problem, but if someone send me SMS in many times I dont get it, but sender get delivery message. This problem I have with WM 6.1 Toflock (about 2 SMS from 10 did not delivery) but now I have WM6.5 Build 21232 ROM *WWE [FINAL] and 9 from 10 SMS is not delivery :-( I try radio 1.08, 1.18 and now I have 1.17. Calling in/out and SMS/MMS sending without problem, but why delivery SMS ?
Can somebody help me, please ? Thanks
SMS alert fix
Look here, and search for sms alert fix in special tools:http://old.buzzdev.net/downloads.php?category=8
I used a combination if the attached files, when I used WM6.
I had to install the WM5 fix first, because the WM6 fix didn't install whithout it.
In my rom I builded an oem package of the WM6 fix and it works fine.
Good luck, happy testing
never tawt that it caused by the ROM.. I tawt it's provider failure.. thanks a bunch mucklemaus
So I tried both fix wm5/wm6 and uninstall SMS smilyes and SMS are now good. I think that problem was in SMS smilyes because I have it on wm5, wm6 and wm 6,5 and I remembered that on wm5 I fix installed but problem with SMS was.
Hi friends,I have some problem with the sms.sometimes I can't send or receive sms.I use wm 6.5 rom 23001 wwe,n radio version 1.17.I've tried installed sms fix wm5 successfully but I can't install the wm6.
Does anybody can help me......
Now I used my hima just for PDA not PDA phone.
Many2 thx...
hi guys..
now I can use my hima nicely
Here's how I solve my problem.
I swicth off my GPRS with advanced config tools.then I restart.that's it now I can send sms or receive sms normally. No problem again with sms n calling.
I don't installed sms fix wm 6 on my hima.so I think the problem is on GPRS.
So for u that want wm 6.5 u can try my way.I still prefer wm 6.5 than any other ROMS.good luck.
Sounds like nice workaround to restart tmail.exe process and get it working stable.
I also had the SMS not working problem too, but was using a Blue Angel running 6.5 (sundream's BA21928wwe). Even though I was not connected to GPRS at the time, I had been using it earlier in the day, so that sounds like a likely culprit. Whats awful is that the texts received during the time the phone was in an "unreceptive" state were not ever received. (I was using another phone to run tests). The only clue I had to the non-working texts was that my outgoing messages were sitting in the outbox and not being moved to the sent items folder.
I found this post and did a soft reset to see if sms ability would return, and it did... the outgoing messages went out - but the messages I should have received since I had been using GPRS did not come in.
Does anyone know if using GPRS will cause this to happen again?
tmfvv, did the issue ever happen again after using GPRS?
tmail.exe? Does GPRS shut it down and its not getting restarted?
I sent an MMS and then another SMS to see if that would work, and I did still have SMS after sending an MMS.. so its not necesarily a data connection that will break it. But for now I'm paranoid about using GPRS again until I figure out more about this issue. Hopefully future rom versions won't have this issue... and I wonder how widespread this problem is not knowing how many people are using GPRS and SMS and 6.5 at this stage.
Any insight into this would be appreciated, and thanks for the helpful postings!
Update: ran GPRS briefly, then disconnected via Wireless Manager, then received texts without having to reset. Still would like to know why the problem happened, since I'm planning to install 6.5 on another unit.
I'm now bring back the GPRS,n just wait n see what will happen with my hima.I will tell u soon.
I try with brand new simcard and no problem with sms n calling,no tweak, everything ok.if my older simcard I inserted then the problem shows up again..
