Manila 2D seems to basically slow applications down and be riddled with bugs and other tendancies that need to be solved and reprogrammed because it stinks. Skip the fact it wasn't orginally written for the Kaiser. It's still a piece of crap.
Why are the chefs (and more largely phone makers) so obsessed with this junk? It's not more efficient in most measures I think of. It's definitely slower.
HTC Home with Homeplug has most of the same capability and is more functional for most people's needs. Sure, you can put more apps on the Manila Programs page but so what....? I only use that page when I'm driving and my fat fingers can't control from the start menu. I don't plan on making Registry Changes while passing Granny in the RH Lane on my motorcycle so who cares?
Why has the benchmarking of ROMs dropped off with the loss of some of the Great Chefs of Kaiser's Past. Let's focus more on functionality and lose the fluff until the power of these phones can keep up with the fluff.
How many Manila 2D Roms have you seen with a benchmark test included with it lately?
Eggsactly....lol.

Absolutely...
I prefer a sharp, hard cheddar with a Cabernet that I'll bring with me that will knock your socks into next week.
But you didn't even have an opinion on the matter eh?
Cooked into ROM
Actually hyper dragon's rom and many others with it cooked in it runs smooth. Installed I have noticed it runs crappy. But I don't think they should forget about it.....part of these forums purpose is to help people develop and use these developments to make our devices better.
So with that said please continue your work and forget about peoples comments that show disrespect towards that work.

Hyper runs fine for me Mr ignorance. Have fun with this thread.
we being humans like options..and thankfully for the chefs here we have plenty of it...
so we have loaded ROMS like garmin's DK, sakajati's hyper dragon, NATF base, etc
and well we have "fluff-free" ROMs like bengalih's BRR or notatreofan's NATF loaded, etc..
if you read the ROM descriptions, you should find what you need and if you do..please donate, rather than creating redundant threads!
From M2D, we got everything handy on the todays screen and accessible by a smooth GUI
At this moment, I think M2D is still not mature for Kaiser until it get landscape support. Unlike other PDA w/o keypad, the chance we have to work w/ landscape is far greater. Other than that, most functions work fine w/ a bit trade off on performance.
Therefore, I took out HTC home and made a M2D "ready" rom (instead of cook in), and give user the cab in case users wants M2D. But this is just me and other cook may think otherwise.
I resemble that remark, at times.... .
But, in this case, Mr Bradercrain, I would recommend a review of your remarks before throwing personal insults toward someone expressing a mere opinion about the direction that Roms are taking.
When you say your Rom "runs fine".....compared to what? A dinosaur??? I agree Mr Bradercrain. See what I mean?

I think that the speed is not the most important thing here, I think that all the cooks that are spending so much of their time trying to offer something "NEW" to a somewhat boring platform should be Held in reverence not criticized for all their efforts. manilla 2d is not bad but why cook in a rom while its still in beta
actually i find htchome tab more usefull
but manilla is awsome but i am bored of it
and samsung omnia rocks touchwiz is awsome screw htc
all i wish for is that not all roms have manilla
change a bit
home or m2d..i guess its upto the chef and his preference..
as for gentlemen who are not satisfied with the package, they have 2 options..
option one:
download a base rom
download cabs you want installed (try p1tater's and alltheway's 4shared folders)
use sashimi or uc to install them all after flash
option two:

Unlike some of the posts above, I'm not intent on deriding your opinion, and I think you have a point - although it's not the speed and the bugs that are the problem IMO because those will likely be solved by the great minds here. But for me, it's nicer eye candy than HTC Home, but I have tried both and gone back to the tried and true (for me) - I pack a lot more on my screen with Spb Pocket Plus and Spb Diary, Battery Status, WMA Phone Profiles, and Sun'n'Moon.
Seems to me that Manila 2D is an attempt to look pretty like the iPhone, but how does it increase the functionality of my WM6.1 PDA phone? Someone please enlighten me.
Then try Manila 3D | But u need Diamond or Raphael
and whats the point..??

Ed,
I appreciate what you are saying here, and I will do just what you recommend.
I am merily trying to see if anyone else has noticed what I see. To consider whether other GUIs are beyond this beast that is so prevalent in the restaurant menu selections. I am a pioneer by nature.
But, I think the fun that was intended by me has made our more sensitive community members ruffle their feathers, instead of considering the merit of what I say.
But, thank you for your offering to me. You will see a donation to the chef that makes the next NON-Manila 2D ROM I select.
One closing comment to consider:
Most of those that have left did not leave because of anyone ungrateful for their effort. They left for faster phones. They left their little dinosaurs behind....
Eggsactly hang.tuah. We will join you soon my brother. You are a pioneer ahead of me. I was kind of disappointed about 4.7, but I understand!!
wow i think you r whole judgement is premature... my phone actually is running faster and smoother than its ever ran... im using darkforcesteam manilla rom and have yet to experience any freezing or lag.... and maybe if u headed over to the general dev. and hacking u would know and understand why it is still in beta... but in short the chefs here are great and put much effort to keep our phones on the cutting edge of technology. and i would suggest the next time u want to put out ur opinion do it in the general section after uve researched ur complaint and how the mast majority feels a little more... cuz clearly manilla2d is not about millaseconds of performance and its in beta cuz they are advancing it almost daily did u know that there is theme management now and compatible with almost all devices damn kinda hard to make final when this is so new and so many improvements are continually being achieved... and since this is a matter of opinion since ive put manilla2d on my phone with the amazing opal dialer ive never been happier with its functionality i cant stop scrolling through the darn thing
and this is why we love manilla 2D whens the last time u seen htc home look like this...

Guys, I want to ask for a favour.
Ages and ages back I read about what I thought was an amazingly cool gadget.
We like gadgets.

I got speaking with the guy that invented this thing, and was mightily impressed. You'll be able to read my review soon... but this is the gadget:
The Alpha Grip:
It's a keyboard, compressed onto a gamepad like device. The keys are positioned around and under natural finger positions, according to usage and linguistic frequency; others are positions under the controller and used with rocker type switches.
It's difficult to describe, but the thing sits naturally in your hands and you have full keyboard access, in an exceptionally innovative, ergonomic design.
And, there's more - it also has a little trackerball that sits under your thumb position, so you can control both mouse and keyboard functions without ever taking your hands off the device.
It is complicated, and takes some getting used to, but when you are used to it, it's amazingly neat and geeky. I used to play all of my FPS games with a nostromo N52, but this thing lets you even further automate your gaming, macros and keyboard layouts. It's not quite the perfect game controller, but it's damn near close.
It is wired USB. Wires are baaad.
Unfortunately, it is not wireless or bluetooth etc, which is something I've spoken to the inventor about implementing. So, it's not quite ready for our phones yet, but as and when it is, wow.
However, I use it with an OQO mini computer and it's a perfect marriage, compact and highly productive (once you master the learning curve and get used to it). I guess you could use it with an xbox 360 and ps3 too, which would be cooool (although I've never tried). It emulates a standard USB Keyboard and mouse, so is highly compatible and doesn't use special drivers.
Anyway, enough blurb, I'm not selling this thing, I'm not even reviewing this thing here - you'll be able to read a full review from me eventually (and I'm in no way commercially connected or benefited from this).
However, my favour:
AlphaGrip, the company, have superb technical support and customer care. I like the product, I like the company. But you've probably never heard of either.
So: Yahoo have a competition on right now running between various small businesses that need more attention. I think Alphagrip needs and deserves this... so, have a look at the Yahoo page, and see if you think AlphaGrip deserves a vote. You don't have to buy the product, or even like it, but just decide if it deserves some of your mouse click love to get a gadget a bit more attention.
Gracias.
Yahoo Competition
V
PS. If you do buy one, tell Mike Willner, the inventor, that I sent you. I'll try to put in a good word for us and get us a deal.
EDIT: guys, I've just heard back from Mike, and he says that when you're buying the AlphaGrip, if you say that you're a member of this forum and write your XDA forums user ID in the comments section of the purchase page, you'll get $10 off the price.
And if you also mention that you've also voted on the Yahoo competition (quote something from his video interview to prove you've seen it), you'll get an extra $5 off! Go out and buy yourself a free lunch on Mike...
He said that they are certainly interested in doing a wireless adaptor or an all smartphone compatible version, so winning the competition will help get them the resources to do that. Hurry up and click already!
Guys, I want to repeat. I don't work for these guys, and aren't commercially linked to them in any way. I've just found Mike and his guys (and gals) to be a refreshingly helpful and conscientious tech company. They don't over inflate their claims, but make 100% solid and innovative stuff.
its got my vote.. im not a gamer but love me some gadgets, can see that thing being very useful
Thanks shogunmark!
I have to say that I'm quite a fan of non standard input devices. My all time favourite is the Microsoft Strategic Commander. If you've never seen one, it's basically the thing the little dude in Flight of the Navigator uses to fly the UFO. It kicks ass, but it's a bit too clever for it's own good. It actually has one axis assigned to flexing space/time, like too much Prince of Persia!
Day to day I tend to use the Nostromo n52 (not just for games, but general productivity work with appropriate macros, keyboard hooks and Windows PowerPro - my all time favourite app)
And I've also reviewed the Wolf Claw, which is more conventional, but useful for WASD users. I'm not a WASD fan personally.
BTW, I finally managed to spend some time with the Wii this weekend. It's not a particularly accurate input device, but novel - has anyone considered porting the open source Windows Bluetooth Input Interface to WinMob? It'd be cool to play doom on your phone on the Tube. Way to get shot in the head...

My brain overheats just thinking about the possibilities... you can picture the Taewanese design manager sitting at his desk, staring at a blank sheet of paper:
"Ok, Monday morning, what to do, what to do?
We need to think of a device that has 1% useful therapeutic design, 99% obvious sexual function. We've done massagers, infra red heaters, relaxation balls...
I know, The Knobbler. Reaches the parts other double ended stimulation devices cannot reach."

Hey guys, would any of you consider using the AlphaGrip or any of the above toys, including those for external application only?
One game pad I haven't owned is the Saitek Pro Gamer Command.
I played with it once on a display model and found it tacky and clunky. I much prefer the ergonomics of the Nostromo.
Do you guys ever use these things? Like I said, Nostromo is great for FPS, but you can also configure it to do stuff in productivity apps like PhotoShop, Word, VS2005, Winamp etc (although of course you can do that with pretty much any input device with appropriate software).
V
Geez, what have I got myself into?! This thread degenerated in a hurry.
Damn....
Please remeber one thing before posting in threads about a released ROM:
- it is HARD work
- it takes TIME lots of TIME
- cooks still have a JOB or FAMILY
- they do it for FREE
- they cook THEIR PERSONAL rom
- maybe they ask "What to put in" BUT it stays their personal ROM
- cooking, porting and releasing is a very HARD JOB
So if you like the work - tell them
If you have bugs - tell them
If you have improvements - tell them
BUT DON´T tell them that you don´t like the work
don´t write a another release thread "i take your rom because teh XXX sucks"
don´t blame a cooks WORK
Because that happened we lost:
Itje = sad about reaction
ttran = sad about reaction
They take a break because of some guys spitting on their work and bombing with PMs
STOP IT! Please!
We need people like Itje, ttran, ivanmmj, and all other developers and user here who are working
constructivly!!!
@ itje and ttran and all cooks: Please report posts blaming your work and I will delete them!!
Daniel(mopps): I agree 100% to what you said. People should request, that too in the forums. They should not PM the cooks and 'demand' something. Also, they should stop complaining about their ROMs. It requires a lot of hard work and hell lot of time. Making the ROM; debugging it; polishing it; testing it requires lot of patience and time.
They make the rom avaliable to us for free. They dont charge us anything. Then, why the fu** some guys yammer about the contents of the ROM.
Message to the guys who complain: flash back stock WM5/WM6 and install what you want from the forum. Dont complain
The problem is that people are more likely to complain if something is not working that be thankfull when it does. Bad thing imo.
I'm using ttran's ROM at the moment (being pretty new to PPC devices) and it works like a charm. (Already did this in his thread, but) Thanks a lot!
It's very disappointing that a lot of people come here just for the software, they don't read (no matter if they know how to read), they take everything as granted, they cry for things they don't see, then they blame the cooks, no respect for the free meals.
The internet made a lot of smart people, it made much more stupid ones too.
Thanks to the cooks especially Itje, I'm running his Touch-IT.
Thanks to duprad, a nice humble tutor.
Thanks to everybody who contributes to this forum.
Let's keep it alive, active, and fruitful.
Peace.
o crap the title need to be bold and the thread need to be sticky. This is a big problem the better the rom get the more the complaint. i only read this cuz i saw your name under it.
ivanmmj = hasn't released his WM6.1 yet so hasn't had the opportunity to get the "my mms isn't working" complaint yet.
Actually, my MMS is working, but I'm sure it won't work for someone.
Shame...I love the work of Itje (I fell in love with touch-it so i haven't tried any other custom rom).
Maybe is it possible if the cooks like it to use some development/bugtrack software. This way bug's don't get reported hundreds of times. Especially when $#%@$#%-users who don't read can be banned from the tool.
Right now the forum is flooding with: "I just ignored everything you wrote and now my device is bricked. It's your ROM and I am too lame to use the search function so help me"-posts. And that makes the useful posts harder to find.
Who needs mms???
I do like the work of the rom-cooks and would like to take the opportunity to say "Thank You for Your work"!!!
2 cents:
I dont know if anyone here follows the PSP scene, but history repeats itself. Dark-AleX is the prime example http://www.dark-alex.org . His situation about a year ago is the exact thing that is going on here. In case you dont know, he creates custom firmware based off sony's original. Pretty much the exact same as the cooks do here (only 100 times harder.)
People were complaining thousands more than this place and he is the only "cook" (as the wm6 scene calls 'em).
Bottom line, he quit the scene for a while because of complainers, and everyone who used his CFW was upset because no more updates (and PSP updates are pretty much monthly). It was tough on everyone. But luckily he is back now, and based on following the PSP scene for long enough I can offer you some pretty good advice, based on this similar situation.
My suggestion to the cooks is this:
1) grab about 5 guys you trust on this forum, who are intelligent and can beta test, and don't mind doing it.
2) limit your releases from like 3 a month to once a month (or fewer) to ensure a working release and keep the complainers from demanding so much
3) work less frequently, and have little to no contact with the general public, dont monitor your thread (it gets too stressful). this is why you have the 5 or so guys you can trust. They are the middle man, and in turn get releases sooner than the general public and a little clout.

tran001 Loved and used your Open Touch series - keep up the good work!
just want to say for the record that i have complained to ttran before (during the rocky periods of very early versions of open touch). then i realized, i was an ass to do so. so i paypal'ed him 5 bucks (beer money) soon after. sorry about that ttran. lol, i think we moved passed it though.
when a scene grows you get more noobs. and "noobs" suck the life blood out of a thriving community. if you cant use common sense or a search button than you are a noob at using a computer.
there goes the neighborhood.

I would say that this is a very good idea. It would take alot of the stress off of the chefs here.

They have betatester and everyone who knows me - I try to help everyone...
BUT they also want to be proud of their work... adn it is soooo disappointed when someone starts yelling at their work...
And some parts only can answered by the cooks because the reghacks are sometime a "secret" of each cook - and that is good so...

I am an active open touch user so i can only speak from my thread interactions with ttran. His beta testers need to moderate and be the communication between the users and him. In theory he has them but in practice i do not believe he uses them like he should. Thats nothing bad on his part, he wants to be on the ground level with the end user as well. Which is ok, until it gets overwhelming - which it obviously has gotten. Cooks can still keep their secret and only deal with beta testers who will not know their secrets, if it is that imperative to them. I agree it is disappointing that this is and has happened. No one wins from this situation.
Ban those ungrateful, undeserving and disrespectful ************s.

What a shame
This is disturbing news to this avid reader / member too. I am a junior member who has used several of ttran's roms (and gave him some beer $) AND am eagerly waiting to try ivan's cleanrom wm6.1 if he blesses us with its release.
I work in a very high stress I.T. environment with users making unrealistic demands all day long (but at least I get paid) so I can relate to wanting to take a break. Ttran and Itje are very valuable members to this forum! I read their posts on many different threads and appreciate all they do.
Other members and especially newbies - READ! READ! READ! Not of all my forum searches give me the answers I expect, so I search more and READ READ READ. Please do the same!
I've this phone from 2 weeks.
I know very well wm devices. I was a wm programmer.
I can't believe that I spent 800€ to buy a phone slower than my previous HP hw6915.
Scrolling pages is really slow and awful to see.
But this morning... I tried to show a video with TCPMP... incredible. Video playback is really bad!!!! And this is a 400mhz device!!!
Why we bought this device?
Sure, modem, bluetooth, wifi, ... works good... but they works good also on my HP IPAQ and on many other wm devices.. that are really cheaper!!!!
I can understand why there are a lot of tytn II used on sell. Maybe into some days there will be also mine. I prefer to loose 400€ but I can't use this device... I'm really hungry!
I know xda-developer is working hard to understand how to realize video driver.. but I can't believe we have to wait after have payed 800€. It's like to buy a car that can go only at 50km/h but a future upgrade can let me to go at 200!!
Thank you for sharing this unique information...
I beg to differ
I would have to disagree, aside from the driver issue (which is well known in this community) the Tytn II is fast (with a good ROM) relatively powerful and exceptionally highly spec'd, especially if you consider that the handset has been out for some time.
In many people’s opinion it still hold its own to every other handset that has been released since, impressive in context of the pace of development in the pda market right now.
It is easy to take one component of the Tytn II and compare it to another to show the Tytn II as being inferior, however I consider this to be a flawed comparison, you should consider the phone as a complete entity before making any comparisons with another handset. I would probably say that my old Imate Jam, when stripped down to a clean ROM, was faster than anything that has been released before or since, however, specification wise it doesn’t hold a candle to the the Tytn II.
As a personal observation I have not had any speed problems, even running multiple processor intensive apps. I think this goes to show how much of a difference a cooked ROM could make to the handset in terms of speed (and functionality).
I have HyperDragon`s newest ROM and god that this is fast, I thought that there wouldn`t be faster ROM after L26_DV9, but there obviously is. So I haven`t got any of those problems you have there mate, except the driver issue >.<
Cooked ROM, epic win.
I didn't buy a phone to be rebuild at my home.
I bought a finished ready to be sold phone at 800€.
You all have changed your ROM wasting a lot of time and with the risk to brick your phone. And now? If now you've problems with hardware faults you'd have problems with htc warranty.
It would be as if I buy a car in mounting kit... so "hello, here are bumpers, here are wheels, ... please mount it but pay!!!".
When you buy a wm device you buy hardware+wm6 customization for that hardware. If you found roms that can go faster than original one it means that original rom is not good!
With new roms you're not adding new features ... you're only trying to use your hardware device as better as possible.
But in 800€ I paid the development of both hardware and software. If some of them doesn't work is awful!!!!
Try to imagine if, for example, tytn ii speaker doesn't work... many and many items would be sent back for repair. For software??? what can we do? Send tytn II back to htc saying that device is slow? We can't do anything than try to waste our time to upgrade it with non official rom!!!
Simply... MAD!
I can only assume that, as someone who is a WM programmer, you forgot to do some online research before you forked out for your device.
You would have found many posts on here about how you can speed it up with different ROMs but if it isnt up to standard out-of-the-box, then more fool you for buying it the first place.
I don't have any sympathy for people who don't use the information and reviews available online to make a judgement before they buy.
OF COURSE original rom isn`t good since it is directly from ms >.<
With new roms you are adding new features for the os, or that depends from programs which comes with it.
And if you ask me it isn`t time wasting when you update crappy and ****ty original winmo rom to a faster one.
E: Wow, you had expensive tytn, here in Finland is a shop which sells it 650e.

Dude the whole point of buying a WM based mobile is to reprogram it, update it,...
Yes you might go and get another brand of WM phone but for someone like me TYTN II by far is the most stable handset I ever had.
FabX doesnt read ( if you look at most of his other posts here, you can clearly tell he didnt even read our WIKI first ) and I have no sympathy for people who dont first research. These phones, even without the 3d drivers, completely smash the market of other WM phones available ( minus the upcoming HTC's ). I have been using WM cell phones for quite a time, and my HP 6315, HP 6515, Blackberry 8830 just to name a few ( all work devices ) could NEVER NEVER NEVER hold up against the performance of my Hermes ( Titan/ 8525 ) let alone my Kaiser. Sorry to tell this guy but if he doesnt realize what he purchased, then he doesnt deserve the technology and should downgrade to an Iphone ........ That way our forum can get rid of the kind of people here who dont contribute

now that's funny..
i've always had wm devices, and just recently sold my tilt and purchased a nokia e71 and love it! my biggest reason for selling it was battery life, (had to charge it at least once in the middle of the day) and adding a extended battery was making a huge device even bigger and heavier. this is my first s60 phone and love it so far. not as many programs as wm, and i'm still getting used to it, but going 2-3 days without a charge is amazing!

Fortunately this is a free forum and you (AND ALSO ME) can write what you want...
However, obviously if I bought a wm device again is to change it every time and reprogram it for each need. You can believe me or not... but I'm quite happy to make all try I like.
BUT my observation is that there was nothing on TYTN II specifications that explain me that this device is sold without video driver! Look at picture on htcclassaction regarding "drivers not included" ... this is what I meant.
Thank you very much to all.

OMG he thinks Babies are offensive.
The point is, that you didn't read anything about the Kasier other then the specs, for a phone that is pretty much a year old you could have found a treasure trove of reviews and write-ups. All of which would have said, there are missing video drivers, and then point to a class action lawsuit.
Your reasoning is pretty lame and unoriginal, so stop crying and play with your phone and have fun.
I will never understand why people come on here to tell us that the phone is so slow ect ect,.. Don't you people realize that this site is the formost authority on this phone, HTC comes here to fix ****.
ps. I think babies are cute.
Nobody buys a new phone without doing research, right?
I went to Google, and using the search term "HTC TyTn II" got a link to Wikipedia for our device. And wouldn't ya know that bullet point #5 reads: "Video driver issues".
Was that so hard?
This should help with the redness and irritation caused by not having video drivers.

lol best comment ever!!!
who gives a flying f**k about what an Apple-Fanboy has to say about WinMo Devices ?
He can berate our Hardware until he starts bleeding from every orifice, but the iPhone will never be as customizable and extendable than ANY WinMo Phone, period.
Best example is AppStore... you get to pay for second class (and that's really saying it in a nice way) software that only has a few functions which are badly implemented.
Also, you are seeing what kind of Audience Apple is trying to attract when you look at the "Facebook" App.
They should release apps for MySpace, Twitter, StickAm and stuff like that for all the young and hip media-prostitutes out there too.

Neither do I give a rats a** but its astonishing how someone can put out that piece of junk (only going as deep as the main menu) and call it a review.
Then again if it's a calculated scheme to increase number of hits to their site, then i guess they have succeeded, can't say if it's the right attention though.
Cant see why the fuss - the review was pretty sh*t but the phone looks like a bloater, its way to thick for my taste and makes my Touch look like its super thin. And his comments about the interface are true - in its pursuit to make eye candy HTC keep making it slower and more error prone. I would never buy an Iphone as i love the customization of the HTC but for your average phone user who does not want to learn anything at all the iphone gives them all they need.
I just can't stand Apple and their Marketing Tactics... they make it sound like they were the first to bring a Smartphone (which the iPhone actually isn't) to the Market that has a touchscreen... and Millions of fanboys actually fall in line and buy that crap.
I'm not saying that Apple Computers are crap, they're good at a few things too, chief among which is "looking good" but did the world really need that overhyped Phone ?
well it's definitely not thin, thats something I can live with, granted all that it does. Guess when there is a phone with all the capabilities of the TP as thin as a diamond with a 5 row keyboard, then we can complain. About the phone being slow, any phone during initial start up process is slow, its not HTC specific.
I don't have beef with Apple, just the fanboys and the fanboy sites!
He compares a TP to a Samsung Instinct for God's sake!!!
I could care less if my Phone was the size of a frickin' cinder-block as long as it does everything I want it to do... it does not have to be slim enough to slide it through underneath a Door.
I'll probably get me an HTC Opal next year or so, with Manila 2D... that thing will make me happier than any iPhone that will ever see the light of day.
What a fool!!!!
Holy **** he makes HTC Fuze makes the most ****ing piece of crap ever made! jajajaja i will make a video review for my hermes and it will be much better than that stupidity useless preview.... Holy **** this makes me hunger!!!
That was actually rather ridiculous. He does make some valid points as to WM's lack of finesse in some departments, but he really seemed to go out of his way to be child-like and/or a douche bag with that phone.
Yes, I tend to use a stylus with my Tilt because the screen seems to be purposefully fighting me, but it's not nearly as bad as he's making it out to be.
"The era of hard keyboards is over"
whatever, I think this review is totaly refering to the guys inteligence. He complains that he dont know how to use the sliding of the pics and music. How is that silly.

Wow, that is truly a slap on the neck. He just could be the most annoying thing ever with that introduction. It's a rather childish review if you ask me.
That idiot with his comments is one the biggest stupidities i've seen in my life. the guy is like woody allen reviewing a phone
well, he does have ONE point, the "smoothness" of the phone isnt all that great, coming(him, not me) from the iphone, you shouldn't have to wait for your touch to take effect, for example when he is trying to navigate in HTCalbum. stupid qualcomm CPU's. I'm not buying another htc phone until they use a different processor, I was ALMOST fooled with the TouchPRO, until I saw some videos and heard some input. in some ways its worse and slower than the kaiser.
We need an HTC phone that is as fast as the iphone or faster. I'm really surprised HTC hasn't tried to compete speed wise, it really amazes me...
o, but anyway, about the video.
Yeah he kinda sucks at reviewing. And it's obvious he is a noob to TouchFLO3d lol. he's not grabbing the current tab, he's just sliding on other tabs.

The best one that I have found is not free but was only like $14 USD and is fantastic. It is from Town Compass, but it is quite inclusive... Here's some of the info: http://software.techrepublic.com.com/abstract.aspx?docid=490101

After looking through what was available, I'm a bit appalled by how horrible most of those apps look (and work).
I'm a former (and possibly returning) bartender and used to be a regular on one of the bigger online cocktail forums...so trust me when I say that most of the apps I saw are abysmal in both looks and function.
If there's enough interest, I'd consider throwing together an application to do this all much better. Any thoughts?

I freely admit, since I'm out of work right now, I'm fine with being a whore
I've already got a bit of this started, but I'm working on another project first that I think will get a lot of wide-spread usage across the forum. But I'll get back to working on this one very soon.
In the mean time, are there any particular features anybody is looking for. I'm sure it'll be easy enough to figure out all of the features the drinkers want, but what about bartenders? Tell me how often you think you'll be entering drinks, what extra features do you need. Will you actually be using this while at work...with your fingers?
I know this is in the Raph section, though it belongs in Q&A or D&H, but does anybody here want a QVGA version, or dare I ask, W(Q)VGA? If this app is going to see finger-based controls (which I'd expect to make sense), it's not really going to work out having small windows controls, so graphics/resolution will be considered for the first version.

When I start building a collection of recipes, there's actually a couple of people from that forum that I'm going to ask for help/collaboration. I'm also going to throw them a heads up to ask for any thoughts from them on what they would like to see.

lol, from me, it'll be at least a couple of weeks. I'm in the middle of working on another app that'll be quite a bit more relevant on this forum. But I will be coming back to this app shortly.
I'll post more info to this thread when I start it, and then I'll create a release thread in D&H (and post a link to it here) when there's a reasonably good start on a beta version.
You can help out by giving some ideas of what features you'd like to see in it.
this is very cool that you'd consider putting an app together, pour...the best reference app/source I've found is that DrinkBoy channel on avantgo. That said, my advice would be keep it very simple. Not only will this, hopefully, take burden and time from your investment to the group, but I don't think I'd be looking for anything other than:
-thorough database with accuracy on both contents and how to prepare
-a "my favorites" option for quick look-ups and personalization
-organize at the root based on main ingredient (e.g. rum, vodka, bourbon)
-a search option with fuzzy-esque searchability (e.g. southside, southsides or southsider would produce the same drink recipe)
I guess these may end up being more work than I thought but an accurate db, easy search and browse engine with a "my fav's" organizer would be PERFECTION for me!!

I kinda suspect, with luck, my app will draw attention from hopefully every group....the college students, bar patrons, and even bartenders from different types of places. For that reason, a "simple" app might not be too likely. Simple interface is definitely part of my plan, but the application itself is going to be pretty powerful and probably meant to cover a lot of people's uses.

- Favorites will be very easy to implement, so this is pretty much a sure thing.
- The database itself is a subject I intend to take more seriously than a lot of people probably expect (more on that in the future).
- I've got several ideas for searches/filters, each will be fleshed out as I build it. I'm aiming mostly for live searches and the first will be using quick ingredient filtering.
- fuzzy search...I'll see what I can do, but that's one I know very little about. Some quick googling turned up some information that's possibly VERY usable, but it's all written for the the big brother .Net Framework while the Compact Framework gets no love. I'll bookmark some of this stuff and see where I can go with it after I've released a first version. As much as it might be cool, I can't justify porting Lucene.Net to the compact framework for this project. In the mean time, I can use a "Sounds Like" mechanism that would probably do pretty well for an early version. I'm also a little worried about performance.
As a note, I'd previously said that I wouldn't be starting this until I finished another application. I feel a little dumb for not seeing it sooner, but I discovered Sashimi exists (though I haven't started testing it). While it sorely lacks about half of the features I planned to build, it does a far better job at the other half of the features I had in mind. I'm going to try out Sashimi for a while to determine if there's enough reason to build my app (or possibly a configurator/extension of sorts for use with Sashimi, if possible). As a result, I'm going to put that project on hold and move on to this one.
Second note...err, request actually...I'm ok with graphics...sometimes...But I want to make this app graphically attractive and possibly add skinning ability. At the very least, I will need a few decent looking icons for a few things, at the most, it might turn into an entire interface design. One of my goals is to make this app roughly comparable to something people might expect to buy form the iPhone AppStore (after all, everybody is *****ing about the lack of pretty WM apps). So, if anybody has decent graphics skills and is up for helping out, drop me a line and we'll bump some ideas around when I get to the right stage.
wow i had almost forgot about this thread glad to see something has come of it!
definetly excited to see what you come up with
Is this program still in active development? I hope it is because it sounds like it could be really nice/useful!
