I downloaded Garmin Mobile XT V5.00.10wp from Garmin website and use Jetmouse keygen to get the serial no. The applicant is running fine with the power plug in but if the phone runs on the battery , it will turn the GPS off between 3-5minutes. I have this problem since with the old version.
Is anyone know why is that happen ?
In 3-5 minutes the phone do enter in standby mode and the built in GPS turn off.
A solution is a Car Charger for the phone or unmark in Start/System/Power > advanced section, the option: Turn off device if not used for x minutes (where x is a time in minutes)
In any way a Car Charger is a great idea because the GPS drains the battery quickly.
i have the same problem but mine takes 15-20 min to work

I do need it for the bush walking sometime where I cant bring the charger with me
Really love the look of the new version http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3389
Do you know why it is only happen with Garmin ? It is work fine with Tomtom and IGO8. I dont need to untick the external power option.
Go to Tools / Settings / Display / Backlight Override and check Always On box
I had the same problem this summer while I was driving I noticed from time to time that the Tytn II was turning off the battery from charging and the gps was shutting down. So I realized that the screen is always on, the battery is charging and the gps chip is always on so the phone has termal protection and it's turning off the charger and the gps because the device is overheated.
I hope this will solve yours problem.

So, I just started having this problem as of a few days ago.
I was driving to San Jose using TomTom on my Tilt and everything was good until all of a sudden it lost signal. It happens time to time and I usually just quit out of TomTom and go back into and it works again.
This time I quit out of TomTom and was back at the home screen (I'm using the Dutty Series). After that, the backlight seemed to dim and the phone wasnt working correctly.
1) Back light was on
2) The soft keys weren't working
3) The power button would put the screen to sleep but wouldnt wake it up or turn it off, i have to reset the phone or take the battery out
4) When sliding the keyboard, no sound works like normally
5) The keyboard doesnt work
6) I can't receive phone calls or texts
It did this for about 5 hours and went back to normal. And now its doing it again. Anybody have any suggestions. I've already tried taking out my memory card in hopes of deactivating TomTom but no luck. Anything helps Thanks.

just a basic suggestion, try reflashing your radio or rom.
Well did a hard reset on the phone and everything works now. The only thing is that it no longer charges.
the phone has been dead for the whole day and has been on the charger but the battery isnt charging. i dont know if its the charger itself, the battery or the phone.
Could be a damaged usb port.
Please note that most of the USB car chargers will brick the tilt. Mainly because they don't have sufficient power regulation (and the phone has none) so spike voltages from your alternator brick your phone.
We've seen user after user who has bricked phones using USB chargers. There's only a very select few that don't put the phone at risk.
It's entirely possible you've fried the charging circuitry of your phone. Although swapping a new battery in may save you, if it is simply a dead battery or a fried battery.
Good luck!

wow, thanks, looks like I will never use a car charger.
i guess there is some advice for this:
1) Do not have your Kaiser plugged in to the dc outlet before you start/turn off your autmobile
2) If you have an older vehicle, make sure you unplug the tilt from the charger before using your power windows or high beams
3) If you power anything else through a dc outlet make sure you don't start it or turn it off while the tilt is plugged in as well
normal spikes of electricity in automobiles
I never use a car charger. I don't even own one for my Tilt.
It was charging fine prior to Sunday night. I had actually charged it to about 80% before I left my hotel to make the drive back from San Jose to LA. During that trip is when many of my problems started.
When I got back to LA i tried charging it and nothing was working.
WOW thanks guys for the warning, i used a car charger alot and well now i'm not going to. this phone is like my child(if my child was a super smart machine that had GPS, ran like a computer and could call people when i say call *name*) i'd never do anything that i thought could hurt her
I have a problem with my touch diamond. The battery of my diamond is fully charged, the battery-indicator shows around 100%. If I do an reset by pushing the resetbutton the batterystatus goes down by around 50%. If I reset the unit a second time, or even reset the diamond when the batteryindicator shows around 50% after normal usagetime the indicator goes down to 1% after the reset and the diamond turns off.
The second problem is that it seems to be imposible to use my diamond as a car navigator for more then 3 hours even if the diamond is connected to a car charger.
The diamond is connected to the car charger, the screen shows the charging icon. If I turn on navigations the battery drains constantly and is not recharged. After around 3 hours the unit turns off. That car charger I used with a touch cruise before without any problem.
Is that a normal beheavior or have I a defekt unit. If that is normal, can I resolve the problem by flashing an cooked rom? At the moment the unit runs with the german shipping rom.
Greetings Stefan

Hi !!!
My Kaiser (Schap's lite 4.31) randomly stop charging, whenever it wants, at home (USB to computer) or in car (as GPS use for example)
With my laptop, i use my Kaiser for "Internet Sharing" to get HSDPA, the orange led stays for a while, and without raison, it turns green and blinks, as stand by mode. So battery decreases very fast. The only way to solve is to stop "Internet Sharing", then ActiveSync re sync, and then led shows orange charging again. Then i can start "Internet Sharing" again, but for how long ? Problem comes again and again...
In car, same problem. In GPS use, with car charger (brand Motorola), it starts Orange charging, and randomly, orange led stops and i'm back with green blinking, running on his own battery (but linked to car charger !!!)
With AC Charger, no charge problem.
Probably my Kaiser has charge problems while running apps ?
Somebody can help me ?
Well I have noticed this same behavior with my Tilt with various
roms. (Stock, Dutty's and now Garmins) It seems to me that at
the time the Tilt stops charging, the device is pretty warm. It
happend when tethered for ICS or when used as GPS. I may be
wrong but I have come to the conclusion that it is designed to
stop charging when the device reaches a certain internal temp.
Just using those two particular applications (ICS w/HSPDA and
GPS) causes the device to heat up, Combined with charging I
think it may be too much and the device stops charging to cool
off so that there isn't a component failure due to the heat build
up. I also say this because after an idle period with ICS (say I
am reading a long article) and the device cools a little it will start
to charge again. Likewise in the car with GPS.

This can help your problem to resolve,go to settings-system-power,make sure when device is turned on do not charge battery when connected to the pc,is unchecked.

@ Darkhynde : You're probably right !!! Last time i saw this non-charging behaviour, it happened after long GPS use (started on its own battery, summer temperature, hot in car, and it stopped charging 5 minutes after switching on car charger adaptor), and long, long HSDPA (more than 5 hours on USB) use.
Temperature must be the answer, you're the king
@ korakesion : Obviously option is checked
Thanks guys !!!

I've used my Tilt as a tethered USB modem during several disaster recovery tests for periods up to 14 hours and I've never had it stop charging.
But I can see the part about GPS because my phone gets hot as hell after 30 or so minutes with GPS running; still charges though...
100% Confirmed Temperatures is the key...
Not sure anyone is still reading this post... but I just want to let yo guys know that I have the same problem... (it stops charging when using internet sharing and it get really hot)
The only solution I have found is to put the Tilt in front of a fan... If you put the tilt in front of a fan... you can use internet sharing/GPS 24/7... done this a million times... and it works for days without a problem.
Hope this helps... take care everyone...
I've had my phone since October 2007 and have tethered with it pretty much everyday since dial up is the only other solution where I live and NEVER did the phone get hot or stop charging until yesterday. If while I am using ICS and I go into power settings and check don't charge while connected to PC and then immediately uncheck it it will charge for a few moments and then go back to flashing green. I put a new battery in and no difference. I hard reset the phone and tried ICS without loading anyhting on the phone still same thing. It charges any other way except when using ICS and I DO pay for tethering on mine.
Just an update to my situation. I plugged my phone into my other computer and used ICS and this time it charged until full (granted it was almost full already) So here I am on my laptop which it would not charge while using ICS and so far after about 10 minutes it is still charging. Only thing I did was poke around in the registry looking for some magic setting but I never changed anything. I don't know if leaving it on a wall charger all day and night did something or I just got lucky. Hopefully it will continue to work since i only have less than a month left on my 1yr warranty.

Doesn't this affect battery-life? I was under the impression you should not charge until the battery is (nearly) empty?
I have a feeling my hermes battery got wasted because the hermes starts charging every time I connect it to my pc (which is every day during office hours)
It's a defect. HTC sucks and I'll never buy one of their phones again. How disrespectful of them! I bought the phone hoping to use it as a modem permanently and go home to find the device heats up within 1 hour of usage and stops USB charging! I can't remain online for more than 2 hours without leaving the air conditioner on. What about the 3D display driver? No drivers! Down with HTC!
This problem just started last night and I can't figure out what's the cause of it. After a few hours into charging, the phone just turns itself on and charging stops!
I'm running stock rom with a few performance tweaks. I'm not sure whether this's software or hardware related and if a hard reset would fix anything.
Cheers.
Are you charging using a PC or directly from adapter?
if from PC, click on the battery icon when the device is on and make sure that "When device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC." is unchecked
I use the adapter to charge, I did try to untick the option afterwards and now just osberving if it does it again.
May be this's another bug when it's supposedly only applicable when charged from USB.
Charging issue and low battery life
Hi, I have had my X1 for 4 days now and overall I am very happy with the features, and I have obtained a lot of very useful tips from the XDA forum, thanks. However I am experiencing problems charging the phone and also not happy with the battery life. Last night I left the phone plugged into the USB of the pc that I installed activesync on (pc was, of course, also on) I switched the phone off and ensured that the charging light indicators were flashing. This morning the charging indicators were off but the phone was only partially charged. I then plugged the usb cable into the mains charger and the phone charged to full in 1.5 hours. Does this mean that charging via the pc is inefficient? During the day I made no calls and sent 2 texts, I did have messenger and skype running although I put the phone into sleep mode. Its now about 8pm and the battery has died. I have plugged the usb into my laptop (which does not have the activesync software on it) the charging lights are flashing but I dont think that the phone is charging as the battery is draining. I read on this forum that you must have activesync installed on the pc that you want to charge the phone on, but why is this. Whats the point of that, the whole point of being able to charge via usb is that you can top up anytime you are near a pc, and looking at the battery life I assume I will need to top up a lot. Can I have your thoughts please.
i have been in the same position.
it's probably because your laptop / pc is in hibernate mode / power saving mode..hence it doesnt charge.
try disabling it and see how it goes
Thanks for the prompt reply Berlinberlin
Hi I can confirm that my PC is set to turn off monitor after 20mins and to never turn off Hard Disks and never go into standby and never hibernate. So I don't think that this is the problem but thanks for your thoughts
How long does/should it take to fully charge the phone via usb? How long does it take yours to charge? Since I wrote the post above I have had my phone plugged into my laptop but with the phone swithed off, the charging indicators lights are pulsating. I have now turned the phone on and the battery is 40% charged from being nearly totally depleted (about one hour of charging) . I do not have Activesync on this pc, so the phone will charge on any PC, I assume.
hello.
once i had one x1 charged via usb over night (with a pc with active sync)
the battery depleted the next morning and it doesnt turn on again
so maybe it's better to quit active sync before charging?

The charging problem I've observed has a different effect:
when on charge using the adaptor, the battery charges OK to full and then charging ceases (as it should do)
BUT
if the X1i is connected to WiFi on my LAN, after a time (maybe 30 mins), it commences to recharge and never stops, so the battery can become dangerously overheated.
Disconnecting from WiFi and soft-reset seems to bring the system back to normal.
At this stage I don't know the root cause, but I have a new battery on order. When this turns up, I'll try the same routine and post results. Obviously, I suspect (hope, too) that the "smarts" in the battery are faulty.
x1 charging problem
I' have the same problem with my x1 charging.
The phone after i started charging, turn on and stop the charging.
In the mornig the battery is low.
Is there any solution that fix the problem?

In your case I tend to think the problem is with Wi-Fi using more battery than what it's gaining through charging. I had similar problem with a generic mini-USB charger. Most charging problems are associated with either battery or charger itself.
Even i had a same issue,
But i luckily remembered the setting which i had changed,
Try this,
Setting`s->System-> Power-> Advanced Tab
{code}
Make sure u have selected this option and set it to minimum value,
"Turn off device if not used for"
{code}
Hope this solves issue
I just want to report 'accident' I had 2 hours ago.
I was running out of battery so I pluged it into my laptop.
But wasn't to fast with adjusting option 'charging while hooked in PC' so battery went down. After this I manage to switch it on and charging when on...I went out for 15 min and when I returned TD2 started to switch on and off...only the touch diamond 2 sign (with vibration) appeared and after 2 sec it switch off....constantly!!!
I went crazy...when I pulled the pug out it was dead...couldn't even switch it on.I pluged it in again and again the same behaviour....
Then I tryed hard reset but without success!!!
I almost ****ed my pants...
then I got the message that 'power is too low to operate'
So I used regular charging method and after 2 1/2 hours battery was recharged...Now I switched it on and it works...seems everithing is normal
If you run into same problem don't panic!!!!
things like this doesnt happen on D2 only, but happens on all electronics which required power... it happens to my nokia all the time... when batt is low, it switches off... when i turn on, it would start and stay for a couple of second, then off again.... it will keep doing that until batt turns empty....
when the batt is really really low or empty, it does take a few moment to charge up the batt to a level enough for the system to operate.... hence, you cant even turn on your phone during this time...
I wouldn't charge when in sync with PC. I've read that it isn't so good for the battery, so I disabled charge when connected to PC (settings - all settings - battery)
