Hiya all ...
I KNOW this is discussed and covered in other areas, but I STILL have not been able to find a solution to this problem anywhere on the internet after 3 days of reading forums.
My Diamond will only recieve mails typically on an 8 minute bases - this is related to the heartbeat of the connection tunnel that is supposed to remain open from my phone.
There is rarely a "live" push of mails.
Forums discuss this problem as being related to firewall HTTP timeouts etc which makes sense, but I've PROVED this is NOT the case by setting it all up on a LAN (via both Active Sync and WiFi), avoiding all firewalls (both software and hardware) to my Small Business Server.
Syncs work perfectly, but the live "push" just isn't live.
It's infuritating.
It's also battery guzzling in it's "8 minute" mode.
Has anyone got there's to work properly with Exchange Server 2003 ???
P.
Help!
Anybody ???

If possible, upgrade to Exchange Server 2007 SP1. This has fixed many problems related to Exchange Push and ActiveSync, including the one you are experiencing.

I upgraded to dutty's 6.1
I can sync to desktop by usb and to exchange by internet, but I can't sync to exchange by usb and get error message 80072f78 -
any solutions
not trying to be rude or anything, but googling that error code came up with a wealth of info.
i know...
Thanks for answering;
I tried a) deleting proxy server - didn't work b) registry change - didn't work c) changing activ sync connection to internet from automatic - didn't work
It's stupid because I can sync to exchange via internet (just not via usb) so it's not a big deal - just annoying
I'm kind of stuck - more suggestions welcome
Heelppp - please
Are you running 4.5? Try uninstalling and reinstalling activesync.
If not, try this.
0x80072f78 but not the same circumstances
Hi
Hi
I tried searching for this error 0x80072f78 message and I don't seem to get this message under the same conditions listed in the posts that I've found. I am getting the message at random in PIE with either GPRS/3G or when connected by USB. I have no problems downloading mail but can't use anything else for data (google maps etc). It doesn't happen every time but is very spotty. ATT tech support was no help as usual. I applied the registry change in the posts that discuss this error in relation to USB/active sync only and it did nothing. I'm using the latest att rom.
Any suggestions would be welcome. I've followed all of the suggestions that I can for people that are having the problem with active sync only and that has done nothing. I still have the problem when connected to gprs/3g. I have yet to find someone else posting that has this problem with both.
Thanks
Well add me to that list then. A user I provide support for has an unmodified Hermes (yes I know this is the Kaiser forum) that was exhibiting this behaviour over the air. (But was fine over USB.)
It turned out that he had a proxy server configured on his 3G/GPRS internet connection (with T-Mobile) but that setting was no longer appropriate, due to changes made at the T-Mobile end. Switched off the proxy server setting and all was well again.

Thank the Lord for search functions - was having this exact issue and it was driving me NUTS! Anyway if you are having trouble syncing over gprs but not over USB then this is the fix! Thanks
Tasks Exchange
I get this error when tasks on my exchange (mail2web.com) account is active and my tasks on my AT&T Tilt is active. When I deactivate (options) the exchange tasks and the phone tasks, then activate only the phone tasks the error goes away.
Ciao
Does anybody else use Gmail, or any other email with IMAP through their Kaiser and experience problems?
Probably 90% of my Send and Receives end up with the error "Cannot connect to the incoming mail server...". Despite the status at the bottom progressing from Connecting --> Logging on --> Receiving Headers --> Disconnecting. This happens whether connected via HSDPA, WiFi, or sharing my computer's connection via USB.
I'm pretty sure I have the settings right as like I said, sometimes all the folders will synchronise and emails download correctly. Gmail also works fine through Outlook on my computer.
I use Gmail with IMAP and don't have any problems. I use it with both Gmail and my own domain (using Google apps)
None
No problems here either.
no problem, but i use flexmail in order to use IMAP Idle.
I occasionally have the same problem with GMail. You will need to unlock the CAPTCHA. I will go for weeks without a problem, and then I'll have a few days when I have to do this 3-4 times a day.
First, close down your e-mail client. Then go to https://www.google.com/accounts/displayunlockcaptcha and complete all the fields.
Once you've done that, restart your e-mail client and it should work.
Hope this helps!
the problem might be that you are connected to your account from another place (PC, other PPC,...) at the same time. i think this could cause some problems with IMAP. make sure you are not connected to your account from elsewhere and then try with kaiser
I guess it just checks for new mails, and nothing else,I had same problem, it just used d/l new emails only. so if u go to gmail a/c and check d/l mail from so and so date, that might help.

That *shouldn't* happen as IMAP explicitly allows multiple connections, and actually makes allowances for this. I use Flexmail too which works fine, sorry I can't be more helpful
I've tried unlocking the Captcha, resetting the mail program. I'm now in the process of archiving my emails and reducing the size of the folders I synchronise. Hopefully it's as simple as the Kaiser struggling with message quantity.
Failing that, I'm going to trial Flexmail although I begrudge paying for a client when I've got a half decent (supposedly,) one pre-installed.
Firstly I hope i haven't messed this up by fiddling about with installing manila 2D because it did seem to work fine, i've taken it off since to see if it makes a difference but of course Noooooooo.
Vodafone UK are being pretty useless about this because the handset is no longer on their list for support...typical.
I use my Tytn2 tilt as my alround comms device, it's my phone, my diary, and my modem for my Macbook.
I got the phone last january and after much hassle setting up the bluetooth PAN i got it working sweet.
I have my business NTL email account and my googlemail account on my phone and on my laptop.
I pick up my business emails on my phone as and when i need to. I use the googlemail account on the laptop to send images I take once photoshopped.
this has worked amazingly well for the last 13 months or so. I connect my phone to the internet, then over bluetooth i connect my laptop to the PAN on my phone, I could surf the net, FTP, and email all day long no problem.
recently (about the last two or three weeks) i've found I can't send an email on my laptop via my phone. it comes back with an error saying it can't connect to the SMTP server.
I can still surf the net and still receive emails but I can't send ANYTHING.
I have tried altering account settings but it makes no difference and besides it all works perfectly when I connect to a WIFI point.
On my phone the NTL world account has send.vodafone.net set as the smtp
the googlemail account is set as smtp.googlemail.com (this is temperamental but has worked fine in the past)
on my laptop the NTL world account is set to smtp.ntlworld.com
and the googlemail account is smtp.googlemail.com
these work fine over WIFI. But over the PAN they receive but the outgoing won't connect.
Please could anybody with any ideas help me out, vodafone is a loss, and i'm not due for an upgrade until june, although I'm not ready to give up on this yet, it should still be working as it did a couple of months ago
At the moment I am a little reluctant to do a total hard reset as it took so long to get the phone (with the help of the bluetooth DUNN patch) to get the damn thing to work as a modem in the first place.
I have just read a post in the Topaz (TD2) accessories forum asking after a dual SIM adapter. I too have carried multiple phone for years and one of my thoughts about getting this device was that I may be able to carry just one device with me.
Adding a second SIM is only one of my issues (and I guess I would need to unloack the phone), I also would like to be able to connect to 2 Exchange servers - Home and Work. Unfortunately, I don't think this can be done.
Maybe I was nieve when I got the TD2, but I at least wanted to be able to view both information from my Home and work on the single device. I run SBS 2003 with Exchange 2003 at home and we also use Exchange in work, but you can only connect to a single Exchange server.
It would be nice to have multiple profiles - one for work, one for home, each with their own settings, contacts, email etc etc.
This profiles ideally should run concurrently, so that you can flick backwards and forwards with no issue, and if someone tries to communicate with you when in the other profile, the phone will switch automatically. The phone should also switch profiles if it detects a change in presence - i.e. it connects to a work Wi-Fi or Home Wi-Fi.
I have no idea if this is possible, but the whole idea of one device for all I still think is years away based on my understanding of the device after just a few days use. This is a shame as the single device is not a "new" idea.
Can anyone suggest any possibilities? I have only just started looking at these types of device - my last PDA was a Palm 5 about 7/8 years ago! I am interested in at least expanding the device with applications.
But in fairness not many people run exchange at home! Why not access one of the exchange accounts via IMAP or POP?
However, lots of people wish to connect to more than one Exchange server that are not trusted just in a work enviroment. I know of several people with multiple jobs that would require just this ability. It's amazing how many people out there do want such a facility.
I believe IMAP will only sync email, not contact info, tasks calendar etc. Even then, IMAP only really works properly in Exchange 2007.
Still, I don't want my home contacts or calendar details on my work account, and vice versa. This is the crux of my enquiry. A single device that is "mine" and can be used in a personal/work or multiple workplace environment, without encroaching on either.
Hmmm, not sure this is the best place, but it is a problem with my TD2 and certainly any searches so far have yielded little in the way of result.
So we begin - I've had my TD2 since May '09 until last weekend it has been recieving outlook items perfectly via GPRS/3G and Wi-fi all through Activesync/Direct Push without any problems. In fact normally quicker than the same item appearing in Outlook on my laptop via the VPN.
Last weekend we changed broadband supplier and upgraded our router at Head Office. Since then updates through Activesync have been sporadic at best but are normally non-existent. This is despite installing the new self-generated certificate for the new VPN/OWA IP number.
When plugged into my laptop and passing through to the Exchange Server via desktop Activesync the items will update on the phone. Unplug from the laptop and use GPRS and it takes an age to synhcronise before finally saying "Waiting for Network" and not actually downloading anything. Equally using the Wi-Fi at home gets similar results, though this is sometimes mixed up with a Server Temporarily unavailable actual error message rather than the meaningless "Waiting for Network".
Our IT support contractor is flummoxed (they got one of their iPhones to access my account and it worked perfectly and timeously). I have even done a hard reset of the TD2 and rebuilt the settings from scratch and we're still back to the same place.
I can only assume that it is something server side that is upsetting the process, but don't know what. Really annoying as it has all worked perfectly for 11 months and has now stopped working without me actually changing the device settings in any way whatsoever.
I went with a WM over an iPhone to get best MS integration, so why should this wobble give my phone problems when an iPhone can work away just fine?
So, any ideas from the great XDA font of knowledge of all things WM?
Many thanks,
Niall
Turns out the new router that was part of the broadband upgrade didn't have Port Routing configured correctly. One tick of a box and all is sorted for OTA syncing.
Still not working over Wi-Fi at home though so some work still needed somewhere.
Niall
If only it was that easy. Still get the Waiting for Network error.
I even did a hard reset, again, and got the "Waiting for Network" error on the first sync.
Only way to solve it seems to be to turn off SSL, but even that falls down after a while stating that:
Exchange Activsync has encountered an error. If this condition persists, please contact you Exchange Administrator.
Support Code 0x80830002
If I then desktop sync the device to Activsync on the laptop via USB (which passes through to our server Exchange anyway) it seems to "reset" the sync and OTA syncing will work again - for a time, normally failing sometime between 5 and 7am in the morning when I check Activsync on the TD2.
Our IT support contractor has washed their hands of it saying it must be the phone because they've had it working fine for several days on an iPhone and old WM6.1 HTC device syncing with SSL to my account. Having not changed anything on the device I don't understand what is wrong with it to behave so differently. Given that the phone is only 12 months old this a real downer.
Prior to the hard reset I was having intermittent filesys.exe crashing errors but these have gone now. Could it be related?
Flummoxed.
Niall
The IT bods have lent me the WM6.1 device (a Touch HD - man I love Sense 2.5 over Touchflo 3D.....). I have swapped SIMs so my TD2 is temporarily on Vodafone whilst the Touch HD has my T-Mobile SIM in it - both are currently syncing. Will see which one stops working first - so for those who are interested, watch this space!

For those that are interested here's where we are.

Got a new router a while back. Opened Port 80 and 443, all sorted. Obviously when the TD2 was working in the past I just wasn't noticing that Activsync wasn't working over WiFi, which is understandable given that Wi-Fi at home is normally for a bit of Facebooking and Casual Web Browsing and wherever the phone had the tiniest bit of T-Mobile signal it would still get push e-mail.

This appears to be a carrier problem. After working flawlessy OTA with SSL for 5 days (Wednesday to Monday) the Touch HD finally stopped at "Waiting for Network" whilst my TD2 with SSL carried on fine on Vodafone.
After a rather tiresome call to T-Mobile to try and explain the problem and have them tell me they've downloaded the manual for the TD2 and can I check the Activsync settings, settings, etc, I got put on hold for a while before they came back and said they've enabled Mobile E-mail on my account. They had no explanation as to why this had been disabled.
So the TD2 is back on T-Mobile with SSL. As of yesterday there was no improvement in that it would still fail. However I do appreciate that it can take a while for settings to take effect and so far "touch wood" today all is working as it should following a "Wi-fi reset" yesterday afternoon. Will probably update the thread further to confirm all is well or moan!
So in my case this was a carrier issue that caused the intermittent functioning of Activesync OTA. Changing to a different connection type e.g. Wi-Fi or Pass through via Desktop Activsync on USB would allow a successful sync and reset the OTA syncing (I guess it cleared the previous "dead/jammed/FUBAR'd" OTA Activesync connection) for a limited period of time. I am surprised that having Push E-mail blocked by the carrier allowed for intermittent functionality rather than a YES/NO it either works or it doesn't result!?!
So the lesson here is that the ability to receive Push E-mail may be a slightly different function from your Phone provider which can fail despite your data connection appearing to work fine (Web Browsing OTA on the TD2 was consistent throughout). I just hope this saves someone 4 weeks of phonecalls and hassle!

On one laptop I have Office2003 which refuses to sync with my Topaz, just sit there constantly trying to synch. PDA connects to laptop, is visable to edit the storage.
Another laptop has Office2010, this sync perfectly but will not allow checkboxes to be checked for contact, calender etc, only allows Mobile Favourites and OneNote...
Going to try a 3rd laptop [friends] that has Office2007 to see if that will fully sync...
T-Mobile phone monkey lied - Didn't make any difference.
The good news is that the problem is sorted. I've been reliably receiving push-email via Activsync OTA since last Thursday (5 days now).
Again it seems to have been a new router problem server side as we were also starting to experience VPN problems at work. The IT contractors contacted Draytek who told them that in one other instance (also on an LLU line) reducing the MTU value on the router solved the problem. Since doing this (maybe unconnected, the IT bods won't be drawn on it) the connection seems to work again. I've done some googling on MTU and the basic premise of reducing the value seems to make sense to me, smaller packets are harder to drop.

Any super techs that actually understand this stuff like to comment?
I can only hope this record of woes shorterns the inconvenience for others in the future!
Thanks,
Niall
