Hey there,
I'm having real issues installing TomTom maps on my Diamond and I actually need them tonight because I'm going on a longer drive.
Yesterday I bought the western Europe maps for Navigator 7 and got the TomTom e-mails within minutes. The downloading instructions told me to download the maps with TomTom HOME. It took about half an hour and I was able to download them in about 5 minutes.
I tried to install the maps on my Diamond with TomTom HOME (several times now) without success. TT Home starts installing and copying the files bu after a few minutes ActiveSync tells me that there's no connection to the device. So the copying stops. I noticed the same connection problem with ActiveSync before with "larger" files (about 50mb). Normal sync with Outlook works without any problems.
I tried to install the maps with two different computers so far. Every time the same problem. I tried it with the following setups:
- iMac with Windows XP SP3 in VirtualBox and ActiveSync 4.5 / TT home 2.4
- Dell Laptop with Windows XP SP2 and ActiveSync 4.5 / TT Home 2.4
As soon as I connect the Diamond to my iMac and use it in disc mode I can copy any file doesn't matter what size without problems.
Does anybody know how to solve this? I really need the maps running on my Diamond until tonight.
If I can't fix the ActiveSync / TT HOME installation problem, could I copy the files to my Diamond via disc mode? Can anyone tell me which files I have to copy where? I noticed that TT Home started copying the files contained in the Western_Europe_1GB.zip to a folder called "Western_Europe_1GB" on the internal 4G memory. I could copy them myself. But do I have to do anything else? where should the activation_map_*****.cab be placed?
I'd really appreciate any answers to solve this! (Also in German)
Thank you!
PS: My Diamond is a O2 XDA Diamond running the official O2 ROM 1.93

Hi can anyone help. My windows vista home premium laptop has automatically updated itself and now my vario 3 wont synch with it. Iv hard reset my vario 3 to see if this was an issue but didnt resolve. Any ideas how to resolve this at all
I sometimes get the problem where the device wont sync with Vista after its been powered up for a long time without a reboot (i.e. more than half a day) or if I haven’t rebooted the machine since the last sync. If I reboot my machine it works perfectly then.
Weird!
Unless you have added a third party software firewall, WMDC 6.1 should still sync fine. As poster above says, reboot both devices.
I had this after a windows update, i just uninstalled WM device centre, connected the phone and did a search for updates and it re-downloaded it from MS
thanks
thanks guys. all sorted now
My TYTN II has been rendered half-working for a second time. Both times this happened after Tom Tom was installed.
I have 4 GB SD Card. I use TomTom by copying all files/directories from the TomTom provided MicroSD card to the root of my 4 GB SD card. There are also other directories ( i.e Program Files ) in the root of the SD card.
The first time it broke , I simply run the TomTom Update function from within TomTom. It downloaded an update , installed it and then broke the device/Windows Media installation.
When it “brakes” the Windows Media 6 installation , it renders the mobile OS half working. The buttons on the side - TurnOff/On and Camera buttons - stop working. The device itself becomes very slows – it takes 2 secs to go into Programs. The camera application starts but then nothing happens when you tap the on-screen functions /buttons. , The device will not rotate the screen when using the external keyboard , TomTom stops starting at all.
The second time TomTom broke my device was after simply starting TomTom – it hung and after a soft reset my device was left in the same state.
Device:
HTC TYTN II Kaiser / Vario III
ROM ver 1.56.110.4
Windows Mobile 6
TomTom ver 6.010.
try intsalling tomtom 6.030 which can be found in the kaiser wiki. I have that installed on my kaiser and have no problems, then just copy the maps you want over to your storage card.
good luck.

I am not sure where I can get the latest version from ! I don't have any TomTom versions on my Kaiser CD and I didn't find any updates downloads on tomtom.com. Tomtom Home is saying may device doesn't need updates.
The only thing i can re-try is to reinstall the whole device and then run update from within TomTom but then this broke the device once already ..

Try using a torrent or p2p... Im running a recent copy without a problem, make sure its a recent build, also i found works better if you assign the gps the microsoft bluetooth gps serial port and reshared to tomtom with that
Don't install from a cab file. Download TTN 6.020 from here
http://rapidshare.com/files/91282009/TTN_6.02.7910.zip.html
copy to your device and run TomTom from there.
This is also the only ver. that doesn't have voice problems on my device.

I will try although I have always been wary of running exes from the internet on my Windows Box be it mobile or not.
Anyway , it turns out the problem is not specifically within TomTom 6.010 but has to do with the fact that I am running another app , a dictionary, besides TomTom. After uninstalling the the App , the device works fine.
I am very angry with TomTom support though , whose response was , as expected - "TomTom works on the Manufacturer provided 1 GB SD card - use it from there. If you have problems call HTC" .
[email protected] Fflippers TOMTOM , IF YOU MAKE SOFTWARE FOR PDA DON'T ASSUME THE MICROSD CARD WILL HOLD ONLY YOUR STUPID TOMTOM SOFTWARE and NOT OTHER SOFTWARE. MoNKEYS !
Hi, I bought the Western Europe Map, installed TomTom Home and everything, but when I click "update" it doesn't show anything apart from one voice, and it doesn't have my map.
I've connected my device and entered the device code correctly and everything had have TT Navigator 7 installed but no luck!
Any help?
are you displaying all sources? I presume you are logged into TT home too
This is so annoying, I really need it installed and working today as I need to use it tomorrow, but their phone service is closed now.
What a ridiculous system they have, I should just be able to download the map to my hard drive and install it from my device.
when I got maps from TT I paid for them then had to login to home and connect my device to the computer before the maps would d/l
Now every Pc I conect my devie to that has TT home on wants me to login and download the maps.
In the instructions it says I have to connect to HOME 2 via Windows Mobile Device Centre. How the hell do I do that? TomTom instructions are gash.

WMC are you using Vista? or XP
TT customre services and instructions sre very poor
I would suggest uninstalling ver 2 and putting 1.5 on as this works better with navigator
Vista.
I might as well have bloody downloaded the illegal version for free!

Easier to install LOL.
So where are you at with the connection of your device to you PC is it paired via WMC? to sync with you rPC
It's paired yes...
have you connected your device an logged into TT home so TT connects to your device connected
Yep, I've installed the random Polish voice that appeared...when I click updates, it says no more updates..
did you try TT 1.5
No worries, just sorted it, had to download TomTom Home 2. Absolutely ridiculous instructions on website, as the information states that version is for the actual GPS devices only.
I want to kill Mr Tomtom for wasting my precious time.
Nice one - safe Jouney
TT are pants for support
Had to do the same myself last week. Why don't these people make it clear instead of us having to work it out. You wouldn't think 2 would work as it is listed for TomTom gps devices.
Hello I've read around on this problem, and I cant find a fix for it. Orange UK HTC Diamond, I don't have the driver CD or anything but it seems it should be stored on the device itself.
I plugged it into my laptop (Vista x32 Home Premium), and first time it comes up with "Uknown device installed. Searching preconfigured drivers." It closes and nothing happens.
I have WMDC 6.1 installed, and have unchecked advanced network functionality.
If I install XP on a VMware virtual machine, will I be able to activesync to that ? (eventually I want to install HardSPL etc.)
Anyway, and hints/tips would be amazing.
vista and diamond
I just got my Diamond this weekend, I was upgrading from an HTC P4000. I was out of town (my home pc is XP) so I decided to sync my contacts over his vista machine (btw can this be done easily pda to pda? bluetooth?) The P4000 had trouble syncing with vista, took a few tries. After outlook at all my stuff from my old phone, I put my Diamond in and... nothing. Didn't see it, but it was charging. I fought Vista for about an hour to get it working, I had to download a windows mobile center patch off of microsoft, and restart the computer+phone.
When I got home to my XP machine, I plugged in and activesync took care of everything.
All the advice I can give you is try uninstalling your phone drivers (in device manager) and try different usb ports, and restart.
heres a link to the MS troubleshooting page I tried:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center-troubleshooting.mspx
Hmm I'm starting to think it might be the standard USB connection that I'm using, do I need to use the standard HTC cable?
I've just tried phone on XP, and its bringing up the same error with Activesync 4.5
It is well-known that in vista you have to download, and install, Windows Mobile Device Center to sync any WM device, even PPCs.
So what's the deal?
Hey i'm also having this problem, spent ages trying to get it to work and tried
uninstalling and reinstalling everything but just get a message on the phone saying
install ActiveSync 4.5 on PC even though im using Vista.
Any ideas??

You can't use ActiveSync on VISTA!!! Can't you read the MANUAL or make a search?! Install Windows Mobile Device Center from MSFT site.
For God's sake, use the included CD, it has ALL you need to start synching.
I have x64 Home Premium, and it worked out of the box.
I'm happy for you but the first thing I did was install WMDC6.1, as stated in my first post, and as I said it isn't syncing with activesync on XP either
I have Installed TomTom and it works but cannot find maps because a memory leak for the moment ( somebody is working hard on this haha) but in the meantime should maybe help to have the network automatic on, so TomTom can find the maps on the sd card?
Or/and automatic usbtool on
Is there somebody who really navigate with TomTom????
Some input is appreciated

I did manage to get TomTom running, but it crashed within minutes because of lack of memory. I installed TomTom to the internal memory on WM side and stored the maps on a network drive on x86 side.
Now I'm using Garmin Mobile PC with Franson GPSgate instead. Works like a charm
Deadnex thanks for your reaction.
The TomTom did not crash without the maps. I finally put the map in the sync folder but that did not work either, got just a black screen. So I tried the garmin nroute with gps gate and that is perfect but that program is not so good and a very tiny view. I got XT working but it wants to have a garmin gps, if I want to use the build in gps I need an extra activation key, the details map is working. It is like you driving your car but when you want the speed of 80 km /HOUR THAN YOU HAVE TO GIVE YOUR CREDIT CARD AGAIN. How did you overcome this???
It is most practical to have all automatic ON, like gps, usbtool and networking and do all the software thing in the vista side, there you have much more software and possibilties.
I only look for travel and phonesuite software on the vista side
Regards
you don't need to buy gpsgate with my rom. you have gps2blue. nlook for instruction in my rom thread.
Now I'm using Garmin Mobile PC with Franson GPSgate instead. Works like a charm
anyting details?Thanks
Yes!! Thanks for your input!! it works indeed perfect with pc mobile and gpsgate and I got win7 the latest to work, very stable this version recognised all the drivers and the snapvue with a clean install. This is really a big difference gps2bleu is not stable the connection is fluctuating, so I am back with gpsgate. Windows 6.5 is on his way with fingerfriendly today screen and more network friendly, so who know what that will bring to us
I only use the snapvue to connect gps and phone to the vista/win7 side because there are much more progtrams to use.
Somebody who knows a program for vista or win7 or xp that works as a phone suite sms calls etc
