Unable to reinstall programs after SD stopped working - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Yesterday my program files folder in my storage card (4gb Kingston) got lost, instead of that 2 (@#%)*% or sth) appeared so decided to delete everything in my storage card, but now when I try to install the programs I had (some of them, ie. MedCalc) installation was unsuccesful, what do I have to do to reinstall them?

Maybe try to go to Remove Programs and try uninstalling the programs that were on the card - it might be failing as it thinks they're already there.

Woke up this morning and had the exact same thing happen. Uninstalled all the programs from the card and deleted the folder. Reinstalled and the all seem to be working fine now. Unfortunately my speaker just stopped working, so now I'm trying to find a fix for that. Did you just upgrade to the official ATT wm6.1 update on the htc site. I got a text from ATT on Wed and upgraded it last night, went ok, but today I've been finding all kinds of wacky things going on.
PS I have an 8gig Scan Disk. So it can't be a brand thing.

they dont appear in the remove programs list, because i had done a hard reset a few days ago,

Copilot Live 6 PPC not working on Kaiser

I have copied the installation files across from my old microSD card and arranged with ALK to have the app deactivated and set up for migration.
Have run the install and it says installed fine.
But when I try to run it, it says "copilot is not a valid pocket pc application"...
Have tried reinstalling, have tried using shortcut from programs and from program files on storage card. Even tried installing to device memory.
Any ideas?
strange mine works perfectly ok- I copied both folders over from the original SD card over to the microSD card on my TytnII. then ran the installer from one of the folders and it installed ok.
The only think I made sure was that both folders were at the root level of the storage card....
Thats how mine was...
Anyway am in the midst of a hard reset as I fear that various other satnav trials have mucked up my dll's...
Update - hard reset didnt help at all... same problem...
works beautifully on mine.
you do need to make sure you are using a 2577 with the 6.0.4.110 binaries or it definitely won't work.
Just for your info ... TyTNII with MemMap v5 - 3.3TB of UK ord survey ... works brilliantly as well
I can't load my desktop version and update it. The cd's are corrupt or something!
So I can't even open the copilot on the device to check the version. I have run the patch'd update from alk support - but no joy?
So ALK have confirmed that the replaced version on my storage card is the latest build but no joy...

Storage Card contents dissapeared. Help!

all of a sudden i realized my storage card's content (2GB) just dissapeared.
I have over half of my non OEM programs installed on it and i cannot use them.
has this happened to anyone before?
how do i fix this?
thanks
Well... It happened to me in some way, but after about a minute all was back again. Don't really know why. Maybe soft reset would help?
I had that issue a while ago, apparently it was gone, but the space was still occupied. I didn't find a solution so i had to reformat it and it never happened again.
This exact same thing happened to me yesterday; all of a sudden, when using Resco Explorer, all of the contents of my storage card disappeared. The card looked blank. However, it also still looked like the space was occupied - meaning I did not have 6 GB of free/empty space - just no content. I re-formatted the card on my desktop and am re-syncing now but I have no idea how or why this happened. I have not recently installed any new software.
Nothing disappeared. Turn off the phone, take the card out and put it back in, then turn the phone on. Did you even soft reset first?

Tried it didnt work. I guess i have to re format
This happened to me and it was from a loose card and a soft reset found my data.
Soft reset didnt help. I tried a hard reset and Nothing. Its like my device cannot recognise my sd card at all. when i check in the setting it says the storage card is not installed.
what do i do?
I can say that it happened to me because I installed a P2P program and it froze and I had to reset. THen my sotrage card got messed up.
It's like any flash memory. If it's in the middle of writing and your phone gets turned off or something then you will corrupt your data. I don't know if you can buy some third party program to get your stuff back. maybe.
????
I had this problem too.....Here's a couple of things you can do
1) take out sd card , take compressed air and blow a little air inside where sd card goes , put card back in and do it slowly wiggle it ever so slightly , take out sd card and do this one more time , this worked for me.
2) in file explorer under "storage card" look for a file called " MSMETADATA ...and DELETE it for some reason this file freezes your device from reading you card
3) go to windows media player and go to library and update your library , see if your sd card shows up there , thats the way I knew my phone was reading my card
4) bad card....I have had a bad card before and it was doing the same , I bought a new one and things got better
good luck my friend
mike
this happened several times on my 8525, and once on my tilt. I've never pinpointed exactly what happened, but it IS a big problem that was supposedly fixed by HTC on the tilt.
I stuck the card in my computer and ran some data recovery tools. They dont always work, but you get lucky sometimes. I then formated the card and copied the data back.

I turned the phone on and off several times and did several soft resets; I also went into Windows Media Player and attempted to update my library but it would not read my storage card. Neither would the "HTC Audio" program, or CorePLayer, or Resco File Explorer/Photo Viewer; nothing would even recognize the card. Also, when I used a card reader in my PC nothing appeared either. I had to re-format and re-copy my files.
Hey guys, thanks for your advise.
Im gonna buy a new microSD card and see if my kaiser recognises it. Hopefully it does. If so thats great.
Just hope its not the phone with the problem.
i'll let u know whats up
by reformat...do u mean hard reset?
Try this:
With the card in a read/writer or adapter that works (not the phone), go into DOS: Start>Program Files>Accessories>Command Prompt or Start>Run and type in CMD and Okay.
Change the directory to C: drive (i.e. cd\C: )
Type chkdsk e: /f /r at the c: prompt (e: is whatever your card drive is).
Let it run. If it asks about saving a file, you may as well say NO as it will be corrupted or a partial file.
Then EXIT and try the card. Data, for the most part, should still be there and not destructed like FORMAT will do.

No - by re-format I mean I inserted the card into a card reader and re-formatted it as "FAT32" on my desktop PC. I tried to do his on my phone first with SK Tools and MemMaid but neither would recognize the card.
Well. My SDcard (scandisk) is not recognised by my phone or my card reader, so i could not format it.
I bought a new Kingston one and my phone recognises it.
I guess it was the card after all.

I had the same problem: after something went wrong with an install file from my card on my Kaiser, all files on the card were deleted.
I was able to retreive the card content on my PC (from a card reaceder) with the free program "PC Inspector File Recovery".
After that, I restored the content to the card. I performed a checkdisk (see Mack5305 above). I then removed the directory MSMETADATA.
After this, I could use the card again.

Reset device and now cannot install to internal memory.

I have been playing with my diamond and now that I know what programs I want to run - decided to reset my to factory defaults and install only the programs I want.
I reformatted all memory (4gig and system) and everything was back to normal sprint as I recieved it.
I started installing the apps I wanted, and realised that I no longer had the option of installing to the 4 gig area. (even though that is where I was running the cab from.)
The memory is there and appears to be fine, but anytime I install something, it installs to the internal memory and never gives me the options of where to install it.
Anyone have any idea what I have done to mess this up? Was working fine before the reset and as I said, I can still see the internal storage (and run the .cab files from there) Even the programs I had installed to internal memory before, no longer give me that option. I am lost as to what to do.
Thanks,
Michael
Since you just reformatted I'd try another hard reset and see if you don't get a better first load.

Tried a hard reset and reformatting the data (not at the same time) and still the same issue. When I install a program, it installs straight to the internal memory and I do not have a choice to load it anywhere else.
Any other suggestions?
Just got off the phone with HTC and it is a known issue with some phones after reformatting internal memory.
Basically issue was proven out by going to windows - setttings - Programs - Memory and looking at the Storage Card tab and there was no card installed....
Solution is to reformat the internal storage with your computer. (hook up the phone to the computer and select "hard drive" rather than "ActiveSync", right click on the drive letter that appears and select Format.
Problem was that with my XP machine it was like trying to format a floppy drive without a disk in the drive. (just kept locking up and giving me errors) My wifes Vista machine was able to format it just fine. (BTW - quick format will not work and you want to format it as FAT32)
I am now back in business.... HTC tech support was great and got my issue resolved for me.

[SOLVED][Q][YetAnother]SD car has been unexpectedly removed. (FOR REAL)

Hello.
This is my first post.
I have seen the noob video, I know I am not special. And still:
I have searched the forums, but my problem is different. Most of the posters don't know what caused this error. I know what caused mine. I have actually unexpectedly removed the SD Card. Kind of. Funny story: transferring data (green bar on windows not loaded at all, window stuck on calculating time/finding files etc -technically no data has been transferred), windows explorer decides to go all "Not responding" on me (thank you microsoft). The genius in me tells me to unplug the phone, so I do. Yay! explorer.exe is ok now. Too bad my SD card isn't.
There are some files on it... but none of the folders that I created, so I lost everything except photos and stuff. I have backed them up on my PC. When I connect my phone (which I have to do manually by going into USB settings so that my PC recognizes anything -auto play doesn't appear anymore-), instead of showing up as my phone, it shows up as a media device with stuff on it (folders like Android, DCIM, but none of my manually created folders containing music etc.).
I repeat, I have actually unexpectedly removed my SD card.
I right clicked on the drive in the PC and clicked Format. It warned me. I didn't care, I was desperate. In just one second, it said formatting complete. No files missing, however (still those Android, DCIM etc. folders).
I have a Samsung Galaxy S Advance GT-I9070 (this forum section, I think). I have flashed the I9070XXLQ4 (android 4.1.2) from Russia on it (a few weeks ago). Not root, or any custom ROM's.
Recap. I have unexpectedly removed my SD card. I want my games back. Or at least formatting it, making it usable.
Formatting the SD card from the phone settings has done it. I am a noob.
try formatting the sdcard on your phone thru the settings>storage..
re-download all your games or transfer them on the sdcard after the format.. if you have back up on your pc or other storage..
as for your pc.. try a reboot.. to correct the drivers of your phone as storage device..

Thanks, I've managed to do that before you posted (but I'm a noob and I can't edit posts so quickly). It did it. Although I was hoping not to lose everything.

is your sdcard a genuine one?.. no offense.. but there are a lot of fake sdcards in the market today..
actually i have a fake one.. its 8gb.. now, half of it is corrupted already.. my tablet hung due to it..
Hi guys.
I hope it's not the wrong thing to revive this old thread.
I was recently installing an RUU onto my phone. After the install completed, the phone restarted and it began checking the SD card again for an RUU - and it found one, as I had not by then removed/renamed it. So, after waiting for it to verify the RUU, selecting "no" to installing it, it restarted again and again it started looking for an RUU. By this time, I was getting impatient, so I tried to remove the SD card quickly before any actual data access happened.
WRONG
My SD card became RAW, inaccessible to Android or Windows. Testdisk and various free versions of paid-for undelete tools (like EaseUS) found only files from waaaaay back, before I had ever used the card in Android. As a precaution, I took two RAW copies of the full card onto two harddisks and compared the MD5 of each (match).
A little wary of the risk of using various features of testdisk, I thought the best thing to do next was a format (not quick format) to exFAT in windows and run all the undelete tools again. No results. Then I found this thread and, as suggested, tried formatting using Android. All software returned no results again.
What else can I do? The contents of the card should still be as they were (unless the formatting twice effected that). Am I correct to assume that the card (128gb) would have been formatted exFAT by Android 5/6?
In testdisk, are "superblock" or "boot" forms of recovery any relevance to me?
Thank you!
(PS: Android is working fine, I'm only having problems with the SD card contents)

[HELP] Documents (File manager) crashing

I have a really strange problem that started all of a sudden today.
When I used UMS to transfer stuff into my 8GB Sandisk micro SD everything was fine but when I unmounted and tried to access the card using the Documents file manager that comes in AOSP the app kept crashing. "Unfortunately, Documents has stopped working"
I tried all kinds of things like formatting the card with exFAT but it is still persisting. Sometimes the SD card wouldnt mount.
I tried the "Scan Fix" that comes when you plug it in a windows 7 pc but now even that option won't show up as sometimes the card just doesnt get mounted. Sometimes it did but sometimes it didnt
So i thought maybe that was the end of my card's life so I tried another SD card (1 GB) but the same thing is happening. It is mounting fine with UMS and i can copy stuff into / from it but the Documents app is still crashing. Have tested the same with two different ROMs and it crashes on both
I don't understand what the problem is. Surely both cards havent gone bad because the 2nd one works with another phone I have. I will have to check the 8GB one as well.
Anyhow, would anyone have any idea what is going wrong or what might be a possible solution for this?
Help :crying:
Quick update.
I flashed back stock and the card seems to be working (both of them)
What the hell?
What could have happened?
Update. Its somehow fixed after I have installed stock and re-rooted and flashed custom ROM :good:
EDIT: THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE BACK WTF?
EDIT: Documents is crashing but ES file manager works
