there might be a program for this however you can also use the built in function in your phone. If you go to settings.. click phone and than go to the data tab and check the box that says "disable data connection when device enters sleep mode". This way everytime you press the power button to turn screen off data connection will disconnect or whenever device automatically enters sleep data will disconnect.
Kaiser Tweak
has an option that u can set to automatically disconnect a data session after a certain amount of inactive time
Open up your REG editing software
Navigate to (HKLM>Comm>ConnMgr>Planner>Settings)
Click on (SuspendResume)
Change Value Data to: GPRS_bye_if_device_off
Click OK
Soft Reset
By changing this value, your phones data connection will automatically disconnect after closing an app that uses your data connection about 30sec-1min, or if your phone goes to sleep. Whichever comes first.
Be warned though that some programs for some reason are not visible as keeping an active GPRS connection so it will disconnect while in use. THe only one that I encountered was youtubeplay. After about a minute, the video was freezing and I didnt know why. Well it was because my phone was automatically disconnecting. So before I would use youtubeplay I would just open skyfire then minimize it to keep the connection open. Youtube play was the only program that I found had this problem.

Right i dont know if this is a bug or its just the way the Diamond is but i go to connect to the internet via opera...everything is fine and it connects via HSDPA. But when i close opera down...the connection is still alive ie doesnt disconnect automatically, i have to manually do it myself which is going to be a problem as i wont remember most of the time and im pretty sure the battery is going to be dead the longer i leave the connection as it is.
So is this normal??..reason i ask is with my nokia n95 i connected to the net but when i closed the browser down...the connection died as well ie disconnected automatically.
If this is normal is there anyway i can change an option that will close the connection as soon as i disconnect from the net??.
Again sorry for asking but its puzzling me as to why it would keep the connection alive even if i wasnt using the net...
Anyone help?? or is it just the way it is??.
I noticed the same thing -after coming from an iPhone and an N95.
Just go into the connection manager and close active connections after use. Its a pain, but an easy solution until someone suggests something better!

Yes, it's "normal".
You need to press the "end call" button, or configure it using the setting application to drop the data connection, or use the command manager to switch off the data connection, or use advanced config program to set the data connection to end after some minutes.
Well the way i figured it out is by using the long press key function, ive mapped it to my call end button which if i press for a few secs..disconnects me from the data connection.
I was hoping that there would be an option where you could specify when to kill the connection off ie after 10 mins of idling...ive been looking through the settings etc and cant seem to find anything...neither can i find anything in the advanced config program either other that gprs auto attach which ive disabled...

Thanks...ive had a look through the settings in the phone but cant see any option where you can specify when to drop the connection...same with advanced config...i cant see that option anywhere>??
Using 'Advanced Config' you can drop the connection after xx minutes of idle.
Programs > AdvConfig > Menu > Connections Settings.

Well either i must be blind or im looking in the wrong area but for the life of me i cannot see an option in advanced config regarding dropping the data connection.

Hi guys,
My battery is dies quickly if my connection is on. Is there any cab files created that allow connections to automatically be switch off after say 1min, 5mins etc? I do use push mail so would like it to come on and go off ...
Cheers in advance ...

No, you either have it on or off. If you want to kill it do this:
Disable Auto Attach GPRS with Schaps Advanced Config
Luck!

Yes, or at least DiamondTweaks purports to be able to disconnect data connections after x minutes (persumably of non-use). Note the caveat about it potentially not working in some programs and also disconnecting simultaneous voice calls at the same time so you would be wise to experiment with it first!
If you give it a try do let us know how you get on.
Mathew
Theres the auto attach function which you can disable in Schaps Advanced Configuration Tool which means data connections will only be seeked when you go to use an application that makes a data request.
There is also an AUTO OFF option to auto disconnect the session after specified number of idle minutes....Not had any issues on 1.93.405.1 image with regard to call drops etc. Mine is set to 5 minutes disconnect.
Do you know if it is possible to detach (not just disconnect) again from GPRS following a connection that's no longer required? The auto-attach setting is all well and good but once you've used it and disconnected you remain attached (until you soft-reset of course).

A silly question by a new user: how is it possible to stop an internet or data connection (no matter if hsdpa, edge, gprs) once started?
Thanks
use 'long key press' in settings, can be set to disconnect a data connection (sdpa, edge, gprs)
Use this program:
http://rapidshare.com/files/173250379/GPRS...onnect.CAB.html
The connection stop after 1 minutes of inactivity

faulty url!
take this one:
GB-SOFT GPRS-UMTS_Tweak_WM6.1_Diamond
there you can choose the idle-time for disconnect
Anyway the manual stopping mode is to tap the bar that is on the top of the sceen...than tap the G E 3G or U icon and so you can tap disconnect.

Cool, also in stead of holding the end call button, wich locks the phone in my case,
Dubbelclicking the end call button alse ends my edge connection.
In order for your end key to stop the connection, you have to go to Settings>System>Long Press End Key>Select Terminate data connection
Then when you press and hold your end key, it will end the connection
if you prefer to stop internetconnection by shortcut, try VJKeyPress.exe 126
this one toggles internet connection
i've searched and i've searched and i cant find the resolve!
after retrieving hotmail, the connection stays active, meaning bars are lit up. for HOURS after unless i long-press-end key or something like that. even when i am surfing the web, after a page is fully loaded, the bars stay lit. on my old diamond, the bars used to go gray or "dormant" etc. therefore no tweaks i have found help (i.e. most operate with this rule "if the connection is dormant/inactive for xx minutes, turn off data" etc. well my connection remains ACTIVE unless i manually intervene)
what is causing this??? i only have spb mobile shell and spb phone suite installed. stock ROM.
hello? anyone? NO one is having the same issue or can help with this??? at this point i'd even be happy with a rude comment about how i should learn how to search coupled with a few links to threads which contain the answers! :\
I'm not sure I understand your question.
You're saying the connection stays alive after using mail or opera?
By default, WMo does not turn off data connection, so once you've made a data connection, it stays on.
Now, there are lots of programs out there that turns off data connection after a pre-set time. If you have Advanced Config on your Diamond, it's somewhere in there as well (I use SKTools and not Advacned Config so I can't point you exactly where, but it's there)
That said, many have tested battery drain and find that leaving the data connection ON or OFF makes absolutely no difference on the battery drain. It's only when you're transmitting data that drains more battery. Not sure if that's where you're coming from to want to turn off data connection

number16, my savior! i'll try to explain as best i can: when the data connection is started/being used, those left-right arrows appear above the signal strength, correct? what i call "active" is when those arrows are lit (presumably when data is actually being transferred). what i call "dormant" is when the arrows are still there but are gray/not lit (i.e. connection is still open, but not currently transferring data). well, up until a 2 wks ago, all seemed fine - the arrows would briefly stay lit when downloading a page, connecting to hotmail, etc, but then would go gray once the transfer was complete. now however, the arrows stay lit. sometimes for hours at a time even tho nothing is running, no data (that i know of) is being transferred, etc.
so what i was saying is that, yes, i know i can long-press-end key to shut it down, but that only works if i notice it otherwise it's just draining my battery. (most times it is in my pocket, and since it checks hotmail periodically, the data connection may open and stay on without me noticing). and yes, i know about advanced config setting (and actually, i DO have it set to turn off after a minute) BUT that only applies if "connection is not active for more than a minute". i.e. since my whole problem is that my data connection technically stays active, that advanced config setting doesnt work.
so my question is, what is keeping the connection active? why is it doing this? i am running stock ROM and only have spb mobile shell and spb phone suite loaded. and a few other minor tweaks via advanced config/regedit. i even tried spb wireless monitor to see what was active after a data transfer was complete (as far as i could tell) but it didnt really tell me anything.
does all that make sense?
thanks for any help you can provide...
For some strange reason Kaisertweak continues to 'reset' itself to disable my data connection.
I have made a simple video that shows I am on E connection only, 3G is off, as well as Data Connection.
I launch Kaisertweak to enable the Data (GPRS/EGDE/HSDPA/WIFI) tab. As a good measure I verify that the others are enabled as well.
The following screen shows one of the errors I am receiving - stating This programs requires a data connection, and will retry automatically. In the mean time, please check your signal strenght. (Error: wininetHttpError [0 12150]0)
As you can see on the ssame screen I am at full signal strength.
I have enable my data connection through Kaisertweak and reconnect to google maps to use a random search in order to start the data connection.
Searching....

I launch Kaisertweak again and my Data (GPRS/EGDE/HSDPA/WIFI) 'tab' is back to disable. I reenable the connection by using the pulldown.
Exit Kaisertweak and do a random search using google maps.

Same error as above.
I launch the comm manager and enable 3G.
Once 3G is enabled I try to complete the random search though google maps.

You will note that 3G does not connect during this search. As soon as it erros out with the same error as listed it connects to H.
I retry the search...

I check connectivity and although connected to H I see no active data sessions.

I did relaunch Kaisertweak again and my Data (GPRS/EGDE/HSDPA/WIFI) 'tab' is back to disable.
any ideas?
I need my data!! haha!! Please see attached!
You may need to pause the video at some parts to see what happens since the screens flash pretty fast at some parts.

Silly question, but does a soft reset not fix....?
Do you get the same issue if you try to launch IE?

I did do a soft reset and I was able to use my data connection for one use. Meaning after the 30seconds on nonuse it would automatically turn off as per settings in Kaisertweak.
Then I was back to the same issue as listed above.
Again soft reset, I am able to use my data connection via IE and other apps that require data, however, after the 30 seconds of nonuse the same issue occurs as listed above.
Initially I thought it was something wrong with the build. So I did reflash the phone, I did download and use a newer version of Kaisertweak.
Remove post sorry read wrong....
This is a strange one my friend. Try the ATT settings cab just for Shnitz and giggles. Also, how about you try manually disconnecting the data before Tweak has a chance, are you able to reconnect after that?
after some trial and error -
I deleted kaisertweak and associated files. Soft reset the phone. My phone is back to normal. I am able to use my data. I can manually disconnect from H and then launch IE and my data connection starts up fine. I am still unsure why Kaisertweak would default to DISABLED for data although I set it to ENABLE. I am just glad to have my data connection back without having to soft reset when I wanted to use it.
To those that have replied... thanks for your feedback.

The screen shot you displayed was for the fast sleep settings
Your data settings should look as displayed below
Sounds as if you had the "Disconnect After" set to 30 seconds
My network provider turn off Data connectivity every 40 minutes..so i need to turn off data+turn on data everytime during download...that means if i didn't check my phone..download will pause..,until i restart data
So in Tasker...how do i disable data and enable it ...after every 30 minutes automatically
Create a Profile using time clock as the trigger to turn Off your mobile data then On again after a few seconds.

I use the time clock from 12 am to 12 pm.Then i set turn data off ...and then turn data on...how to set variable to 10seconds...i dont know that...in notification... no active profiles is shown
what happens when you lose connection? disconnected? or just no more data gets download?
if the data speed drops, you can try to watch this and have Tasker re connecting when that happens
if you are disconnected, use that as trigger.
I would prefer this over time schedule.

You can try creating a Task to turn-on mobile data that will be triggered by the opening of an application (i.e. your browser or your download app). Within this Task there's a 30 min or so delay to turn-off your mobile data then On again after 10 sec or so. Create a loop to repeat this process until you close your app.
If you're not yet familiar with creating Tasks and Profiles., I suggest you learn first from examples in YouTube. There are many tutorials on YouTube about Tasker.

my speed drops to 0.help me make a profile pls
sorry, my bad, it turns out the speed monitoring is more complicating than I expect.
maybe you can try this:
every x minute, do a http get of some simple page, than check for its %HTTPR, if this equals -1 then your connection is down.
I don't know how your connecting works, so I can't help you there.
