I have to disagree. I found using ie explorer on my mda vario and even other windows mobile devices painfully slow. Once i tried opera mini i never went back. Web browsing on my mda vario with opera mini is still faster than the g1 with googles browser.
Dont get me wrong i love googles browser and the browsing is no where near as slow as what my vario was. But when opera mini comes out, if it works ill be using it.
The only downside to using opera mini i found was somewhat buggy downloads on occasions and not being able to copy links. Also on forums where you click images to enlarge didnt work.
Opera mini might even save you on battery since it reduces how much you have to download.

Its in the market now, opera 4.2 beta! Still it isnt as good as 3g internet of g1.

Stock browser much better
why even release something that isn't as good as the browser that comes with the phone?
I had a samsung instinct (sprint) and the stock browser was so bad (along with every other feature of the phone, except voice searching... still waiting google!!!) that this opera mini would have made the instinct feel like you've switched from a 56k modem to cable.
for the G1 on the other hand, this app is about as useful as 2 @$$holes (I guess 2 would be very useful if you were a porn star ). Still no imbedded flash and slower than stock, what was the point opera? Embarresment? Is the full version going to be that much better? I mean compared to beta, can't be much worst.
I'm sure the newer pda/smartphone/ppc users will revel in a commercial company converting a dumbphone program for the G1 (which shouldn't be dumbphone program compatible!!), but if you've been around the block with these gadgets (I've been around since original tungstens) then you'll understand why I am ranting about the flood of useless apps.

i couldnt agree more santos alot of the market apps are pointless makes g1 and android which is so great look bad

opera mini is aimed at people with limited download allowance, or who dont have 3g. i wouldnt use it because 3g in my area is great and i have a 10gb allowance. so might as well use it.
i think the browser speed of the G1 is phenominal, its just a shame its not as smooth as on my iphone 3g - certainly i find it a lot less convenient for quickly googling things. im hoping the Cupcake update will see me move away from the iPhone entirely but i feel im drifting off topic a little here...
anyway - for those that need it Opera Mini is the app they dream of; for those that dont it is a pointless application.
And to those who install it to save their batteries, well maybe you should think about whether this device is really for you.

mobile safari style full browser???

I'm coming back home...
Tomorrow my AT&T Tilt comes in the mail. I had jumped ship for a little while to try out the Iphone for a little while. As I already knew/expected/predicted, it sucked. I finally got someone to trade my unlocked Iphone for a brand new in the box Tilt. I'm so glad to be back in the hackable/crackable world of HTC and Windows Mobile.
However, I got used to the great browsing experience with mobile safari. Are there any full browsers for windows mobile? I'm looking for a browser that can view full pages and supports javascript and ajax. It would also be great if it came in the neighborhood of... FREE!
Please feel free to flame me for jumping ship. Blame it on the 620mhz arm. I had to experience it.
Opera mini based on Java comes close. I do not recall if it is free but it does show whole pages and you can expand specific spots by a simple touch with finger or stylus. It is also totally scrollable (I use finger nails).
Opera mini is good and is free, I've been using one called NetFront Browser that is really decent too. It's apparently in beta now, don't know if it'll still be free when it goes to release.

I won't be - it'll cost $30.
In general, I recommend Opera Mini the most, particularly with my additional hacks & tweaks. Read my related articles.

Opera 9.5

Test shows it running on a touch, seems pretty fast to me:
http://www.engadget.com/2008/02/05/v...y-quick-slick/
Makes PIE look like complete rubbish, which it is.
why bash PIE?
it hasnt got a proper update for only 4 years?
Rather impressive that a four year old browser can do anything the rate sites are progressing!
Link is incorrect:/t

deepfish-copy?
Except Deepfish has the pages rendered on MS's servers, then sent to the phone. That means 2x as slow, and no interactivity (no flash, no clicking on links). This is actually rendering the page on the phone.
I just want to know when is this going to be released? Does anyone know?
They are making a beta soon, but haven't released it yet.
hopefully they will let 8.65 owners use the same registration code...

Errrm, does my Opera 8.5 code let me upgrade to 8.65? Wouldn't hope too much
Anyway, what happened to v.9?
Looks good tho', and I though 8.65 looked quite nice. Only problem is the same thing that stopped me buying Opera (again) last time which is the exchange rate on the store.
All I need is to need more than Opera Mini
Its probably gonna be an upgrade for the 8.X series users and then 9.5 would probably another purchase and 9.0 would probably a better 8.x series.

Why would deepfish be 2x as slow ?
it does 2x more path to reach your cell, but not 2x slower...
Basically that's what Opera Mini does : preprocessing on the server side, for optimised bandwidth & screen usage. (Blackberry servers also do that)
But back to Opera Mobile 9.5: I hope that will offer much better experience than Opera Mini (which is already the best IMHO)
Just because if they want us to pay, that has to be worth the money
-Delete for Brainfart moment
I saw the video for this today - cannot wait for the release!
Love opera 9.5 for PC so this could actually be something i'd pay for on WM
What about Skyfire.
http://www.skyfire.com/
The fact that it is free is great.
Its great how all these great web browsers are still in beta
After reading a comment related to netfront, I gave it a try.
These folks have made big improvements, the visual bookmarks are sexy
The browsing is fast like an Opera...
Now I'll hesitate between Opera Mini, Netfront 3.5 and Opera 9.5 if it goes public soon

NEW TouchBrowser

anybody seen this?
sounds promising

There doesn't seem to be a trial period for this so difficult to try out/test without actually purchasing the app...demo video looks interesting though...

i agree, i'd prefer to donate once it's been tried
it doesn't even allow you to use a trial version first. If its that good i doubt it'll go for only 14 dollars.
Yeah, well, I bit the bullet and bought this. At least on my Tytn II with original HTC ROM, this software is a dog. Runs way too slow to even be remotely usable. I sent an email to them asking for a fix, or a refund.
have Opera Mobile 9.5 ;D it runs great and is the same like these ****
I dl'd Opera 8.65 and it runs the same as this program...is there something I'm missing?
I emailed them asking about a trial version and they responded that one should be available next week.
Guys, this is merely a touch UI for PIE.
Have upload opera 9,5 (its a beta version but runs great)
http://xirror.com/spread/42241753/Opera_Mobile_9.5.cab.html
guys a rather limited demo version is available from the site, they have also added a note to say that touchflo may slow down the operation of the browswer anyone have a cab to enable/disable touchflo easily ive tried searching the forums but to no avail
If you want a _really_ good browser, I suggest you to try Netfront.
It's the best browser for Windows Mobile.
http://www.access-company.com/products/mobile_solutions/netfrontmobile/browser/35_wm_tp.html

For all of you who now more than I do...

I have an AT&T Tilt, and I am so unsatisfied with IE. I am seeking suggestions on a new browser.
I would really like something that will allow tabbed browser windows, if possible.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated, but know that I am kinda retarded as far as computer speak is concerned
Thanks!
I hear that opera is meant to be good... im pretty sure that htc switched over to it on the newer phones... i havent tried it yet myself, but anythings better than PIE...
yeah diamond and newer comes with opera mobile 9.X
which support javascripts, ajax and tabs
give skyfire a look too
opera mobile NSFAN's build
ok, i didnt have time to do a search, but i found this thread so may i have a uestion.
I saw some videos on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpRF_OVHfvA, and my qouestion is is it possible that the kaiser i so fast?because whne i bought my diamond i bought it because it has much better hardwer than the tytn II, but now i saw hyperdragons and others rom and i amazed...shocked.
what do you think with all this tweaks, how much will be different the kaiser from the diamond in speed/usage etc...will it be more slower or i wont feel the hardware differenc?
I think it is awesone that it looks like the tf3d/i read?that is included/ nice job realy.
of, do not forget that i don play games on diamond, so i think i wont play on tytn Ii if i buy it...
I use diamond with aFast diamond rom...So if anyone have/had this 2 devices can he send me a pm or post here a message!
why dont you use PIE PLUS it adds a bunch of stuff to PIE including tabs i like it and its free
In my opinion PIE is horrible. Besides the word "funderful" (long story), there is nothing I hate more than Pocket IE. There are a TON of free alternatives you should try. I currently have all of these on my device, and most are capable of true desktop browsing.
Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta NSFan's build (this build supports ~10 tabs and is fast)
Bolt (still in beta, released very recently, pretty damn fast, and you need a Java program, like the one that comes on the Tilt)
Iris (Like NSFan's build of Opera it supports tabs. It's still in beta, pretty good, based on the WebKit rendering engine like Android's browser and Safari Mobile)
Skyfire (true Flash 10 and Silverlight 2 support, need I say more?)
Opera Mini (kinda like PIE, except it doesn't suck and it goes fast, and you need a Java program)
All of these browsers are quite capable of a pleasant browsing experience, and all should be quite easy to find on google. They're all free too, but Iris and Bolt require registration before you can download (but they both seem like reputable companies).

ucweb does have an english version but it kinda reminded me of the browser that was on my moto about 8 years ago. It is really fast but is poorly created. I do not think it supports flash, at least I don't remember. Here is a cab if anyone is interested

Mozilla for Android: Fennec is coming!

http://gigaom.com/2009/10/19/on-mobile-phones-firefoxs-big-bet-is-nokia-android/
...Mozilla will release Firefox for Windows Mobile and then Android, he said.
Why? Because he thinks there is a lot of overlap among folks who use Firefox and those who might buy Android-based devices...
“Until recently, Android was Java, but they released Android NDK which uses C/C++ and that is what we program in, so we are now looking at developing Firefox for Android,” said Jay Sullivan, vice president of Mobile for Mozilla.
“Mozilla Firefox will be the first mobile browser to support add-ons,” boasted Sullivan, pointing to the fact that nearly 2 billion Firefox add-ons have been downloaded to date, and they’ve spawned successful companies such as StumbleUpon. He expects similar traction for Firefox on the mobile. “We have been spending a lot of time on making sure that JavaScript and our engine work really fast on ARM processors,” Sullivan said. “That has taken some time.”
The reason: Mozilla wants developers to embrace the more open HTML5 standards instead of developing separately for different mobile platforms. “For a company of 20 people, it is hard to support multiple platforms,” Lilly said. “Even if one platform takes 20 percent of the market, there are other platforms you still need to develop for, and that isn’t easy for a small company. So that is why we are with Google in supporting HTML5 technologies.”

Watch out, WebKit! Gecko's coming to storm the scene.
I can't wait!
That would be nice. This webkit-based thing feels too much like apple has had its slimy hands in it.
cannot wait, this is gonna be superb!
As horrid as the test version was on WinMo, I'm not holding out any serious hopes.

yes.........
It cant be much worse than the old WinMo version was.
And with webkit generally being quicker than Gecko, and with firefox's main bow of extensions not really having a place on a mobile (with current memory constraints at least), I'm not really that excited.
Here's hoping though!
Opera Mobile on the other hand......

as am I. considering that the non-selling points of addons in the past was memory constraints, and now with the advent of being able to install the app directly to the sd instead of the phones internal storage through android, this could work out very well.
we'll have to just wait and see

I think the key part of your statement was "wimo"... which basically excludes the possibility of anything actually being *good*.
Opera Only Looks Good!
I keep hearing that the Opera browser works on most sites. Well, it doesn't work very well on many sites. I have even Opera 10 with turbo and it is limited. Now the Skyfire browser isn't so pretty but it works on most sites. I hope some of these browsers for mobile get it together.
Opera is a *terrible* browser -- on ANY platform.
From time to time I look at it, but it is cumbersome, and tends to just *not work*.

what a load of bollocks, its faster than stock browseron wifi when its on gprs and every site i use works perfectly and display great, sips ram aswell
Honestly I downloaded the official nightly pre-alpha build of Fennec and I'm quite disappointed. For starters the APK is 11mb and installed using CM6 Froyo APP2SD it showed installed it took up 18mb. This is the largest app for Android I've seen yet.
On top of the bloat it won't run at all on my G1. I just get a black screen. Considering Fennec is written for Android 2.1+ and uses the NDK it's probably built like Flash using Snapdragon specific optimizations that are incompatible with previous generation Androids. I'll probably keep an eye on it, but I doubt it will ever work on anything older then the Nexus One.
