For all of you who now more than I do... - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I have an AT&T Tilt, and I am so unsatisfied with IE. I am seeking suggestions on a new browser.
I would really like something that will allow tabbed browser windows, if possible.
Any and all suggestions are appreciated, but know that I am kinda retarded as far as computer speak is concerned
Thanks!

I hear that opera is meant to be good... im pretty sure that htc switched over to it on the newer phones... i havent tried it yet myself, but anythings better than PIE...

yeah diamond and newer comes with opera mobile 9.X
which support javascripts, ajax and tabs

give skyfire a look too

opera mobile NSFAN's build

ok, i didnt have time to do a search, but i found this thread so may i have a uestion.
I saw some videos on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpRF_OVHfvA, and my qouestion is is it possible that the kaiser i so fast?because whne i bought my diamond i bought it because it has much better hardwer than the tytn II, but now i saw hyperdragons and others rom and i amazed...shocked.
what do you think with all this tweaks, how much will be different the kaiser from the diamond in speed/usage etc...will it be more slower or i wont feel the hardware differenc?
I think it is awesone that it looks like the tf3d/i read?that is included/ nice job realy.
of, do not forget that i don play games on diamond, so i think i wont play on tytn Ii if i buy it...
I use diamond with aFast diamond rom...So if anyone have/had this 2 devices can he send me a pm or post here a message!

why dont you use PIE PLUS it adds a bunch of stuff to PIE including tabs i like it and its free

In my opinion PIE is horrible. Besides the word "funderful" (long story), there is nothing I hate more than Pocket IE. There are a TON of free alternatives you should try. I currently have all of these on my device, and most are capable of true desktop browsing.
Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta NSFan's build (this build supports ~10 tabs and is fast)
Bolt (still in beta, released very recently, pretty damn fast, and you need a Java program, like the one that comes on the Tilt)
Iris (Like NSFan's build of Opera it supports tabs. It's still in beta, pretty good, based on the WebKit rendering engine like Android's browser and Safari Mobile)
Skyfire (true Flash 10 and Silverlight 2 support, need I say more?)
Opera Mini (kinda like PIE, except it doesn't suck and it goes fast, and you need a Java program)
All of these browsers are quite capable of a pleasant browsing experience, and all should be quite easy to find on google. They're all free too, but Iris and Bolt require registration before you can download (but they both seem like reputable companies).

ucweb does have an english version but it kinda reminded me of the browser that was on my moto about 8 years ago. It is really fast but is poorly created. I do not think it supports flash, at least I don't remember. Here is a cab if anyone is interested

Hello,
First of all i love the site , My Kaiser is now pumped up with some of the best software that you guys have recommened, My Fav software so far is the HTC Album with the Gesture comands (Very Iphone )
This leads me onto my only gripe and was hoping some one could help me
the question is - "Is there any decent Gesture based web Browsing software?" either in the works or already availble?
I have moved onto using OPRA, i really like it but can't seem to get to grips with zooming in or out (is it at all possible)
thanks in advance

If zooming in/out is what you need, you may want to take a look at Opera Mini, particularly with the latest improvements (see the Wiki / the General forum for them)
use the piscel viewer, it is EXACTLY the same as the iPhone browser. I ripped it off the new verizon samsung phone and it works great. Let me know if you need the cab.
It's spelled 'picsel', but I agree that it's a sweet little web browser that acts very similarly to the iPhone browser.
It was posted in the Hermes forum awhile back and I grabbed it then. Good thing, cuz you can't find it anywhere anymore.

Opera 9.5

Test shows it running on a touch, seems pretty fast to me:

Makes PIE look like complete rubbish, which it is.
why bash PIE?
it hasnt got a proper update for only 4 years?
Rather impressive that a four year old browser can do anything the rate sites are progressing!

deepfish-copy?
Except Deepfish has the pages rendered on MS's servers, then sent to the phone. That means 2x as slow, and no interactivity (no flash, no clicking on links). This is actually rendering the page on the phone.
I just want to know when is this going to be released? Does anyone know?
They are making a beta soon, but haven't released it yet.
hopefully they will let 8.65 owners use the same registration code...

Errrm, does my Opera 8.5 code let me upgrade to 8.65? Wouldn't hope too much
Anyway, what happened to v.9?
Looks good tho', and I though 8.65 looked quite nice. Only problem is the same thing that stopped me buying Opera (again) last time which is the exchange rate on the store.
All I need is to need more than Opera Mini
Its probably gonna be an upgrade for the 8.X series users and then 9.5 would probably another purchase and 9.0 would probably a better 8.x series.

Why would deepfish be 2x as slow ?
it does 2x more path to reach your cell, but not 2x slower...
Basically that's what Opera Mini does : preprocessing on the server side, for optimised bandwidth & screen usage. (Blackberry servers also do that)
But back to Opera Mobile 9.5: I hope that will offer much better experience than Opera Mini (which is already the best IMHO)
Just because if they want us to pay, that has to be worth the money
-Delete for Brainfart moment
I saw the video for this today - cannot wait for the release!
Love opera 9.5 for PC so this could actually be something i'd pay for on WM
What about Skyfire.
http://www.skyfire.com/
The fact that it is free is great.
Its great how all these great web browsers are still in beta
After reading a comment related to netfront, I gave it a try.
These folks have made big improvements, the visual bookmarks are sexy
The browsing is fast like an Opera...
Now I'll hesitate between Opera Mini, Netfront 3.5 and Opera 9.5 if it goes public soon

i agree, i'd prefer to donate once it's been tried
it doesn't even allow you to use a trial version first. If its that good i doubt it'll go for only 14 dollars.
Yeah, well, I bit the bullet and bought this. At least on my Tytn II with original HTC ROM, this software is a dog. Runs way too slow to even be remotely usable. I sent an email to them asking for a fix, or a refund.
have Opera Mobile 9.5 ;D it runs great and is the same like these ****
I dl'd Opera 8.65 and it runs the same as this program...is there something I'm missing?
I emailed them asking about a trial version and they responded that one should be available next week.
Guys, this is merely a touch UI for PIE.
Have upload opera 9,5 (its a beta version but runs great)
http://xirror.com/spread/42241753/Opera_Mobile_9.5.cab.html
guys a rather limited demo version is available from the site, they have also added a note to say that touchflo may slow down the operation of the browswer anyone have a cab to enable/disable touchflo easily ive tried searching the forums but to no avail
If you want a _really_ good browser, I suggest you to try Netfront.
It's the best browser for Windows Mobile.

Windows Mobile 7 Update!!

major handset maker, Microsoft is planning to make available
the final bits of its next mobile OS release in time for them to
start selling Windows Mobile 7 phones by Q1 2009

Updated specifics from PCmagazine and ZDNET on WM7
1) Microsoft's own Ftouchflo "style" technology that will rival the iphones...(no more icontacts,HTC album, or FtoucfloSL or what ever the hell pay to play version their at now..just simple thumb gesture flipping through every application that ships or is made available 3rd party for the device.
2) Skyfre shipping with the new OS WM7 instead of PIE (PIE might be an optional download for the faithful)...thats if microsoft is smart enough to realize deepfish will not be able to compete with skyfire in the new browser war which is simply known as "the flash browser". Skyfire is alrdy about to be on its second beta version and looks rock solid from visual appeal to simply being able to watch youtube on the browser (you get the option of full screen mode instead of watching only on the browser of course, i should be getting my second invite for beta 2 by end of summer and will update more about the browser) Bye Bye TCMP/ Coreplayer!! So unless Microsoft starts having their engineers and OS technicians begin work on putting flash and java built into their deepfish browser by the first quarter of 2009 and out of beta, Skyfire is going to be the #1 selling internet browser of 2009. But theres also the other possibilities of the new firefox for PPC browser out of beta by Q1 and Opera browser 10 supposedly with java and flash as well... There were also rumors on ZDnet that apple was possibley going to license iphone's safari to microsoft (for a hefty sum) which i doubt Gates will want to bow down to 'ol stevey boy for. So thats that...should be an interesting late 2008 and i hope alot of you will closely be watching what is going to happen next with our future OS.
As for me....I'm as giddy as an 1800's English school boy!!!

SkyFire kinda blows!
Look skyfire is nice and all, personally I find it a big sluggish but the sudo flash support is nice. But its a mute point, Microsoft has licensed flash to go in PIE or what ever browser they are putting in WM7 and it will be decoded and ran locally on the device.

I sincerly hope that the skyfire is much better than the version I've been using.. its a resource hog and all data is available to the servers admins...
man i could give two ****z if skyfire admins get to know that im viewing...yahoo email, xda developers (if anything its publity for xda developers) Allhiphop.com, ESPN.COM, CBS/CNN/reuters news etc...etc..etc..for the sheer fact that i get an incredible flash and java embeded PDA B-R-O-W-S-E-R! its unreal how technology keeps surprising me daily, the meer thought of watcing youtube on a mini browser on a mini labtop phone which is my kaiser is genius and should be welcomed with open arms. I cringe when i think about the times i actually used to download flash player 7 and those other useless flash apps from adobe for no apparent reason because those apps did absolutely nothing. Skyfire is gonna be revolutionary...whats next? anything a desktop or labtop can do our PDA's are going to be able to do it sooner or later. Instead of computer/labtop shopping,c onsumers will be pocketpc/phone shopping...why not? a phone that is also your computer in miniature form? unreal...i cant wait..were almost their brother.
I agree with the dude above me. Skyfire is the best browser I have used. It is brand new and still in testing but it is going to surpass opera. I have it on my phone right now and it's crazy. As for the Update. I won't flash the upgrade on my phone. I'll just wait for a better cooked version. Patience is a virtue people. I'll wait till most of the bugs are worked out by the Cooks.

Well its deffinetly not going to be PIE anymore with WM7....Microsoft has been testing and releasing beta's to be tested by "testers" for almost a year now for deepfish. The deepfish that i tested during the beta trials did not..and i mean did not have any sort of flash or java support. Although it was significantly better then PIE in terms of zooming features and touch rendering withs crolling through pages like how most mobile browsers are having now. This platform or standard was set by the iphones safari..so microsoft will atleast have a browser for WM7 that will mimic safari, wether they will keep the PIE name going to introduce the deepfish brand name is not completly sure but it will rival safari in all aspects. If they are smart, they will up the stakes and go with skyfire as their default browser because of the sheer uproar and anticipation skyfire has been arrowsing in the pocketpc/mobile world....plain and simple because if they dont skyfire's official browser launch will fly off the shelves and Microsoft's monopoly on their internet browser will be in jeopardy since this is not like their desktop OS domination. The ability of 3rd party software that Windows mobile is so great at will eventually hurt them in the browser department..deepfish or PIE will be obsolete. Especially if skyfire's offcial browser drops before WM7 hits the market.
Skyfire will never be the default browser, for the simple reason that I and plenty of other people do care that everything we look at is passing through some third party server. It's not even a browser, just some kind of thin client. If you like it that's fine, use it, but bear in mind it's destined to be an optional pay/ad-funded service, not a built-in feature of WM7.
MS have already stated they're at work on a full port of IE for WM, with a full desktop browsing experience - and they're not talking about Deepfish either.

yea well evryone is intitled to their own opinions but what makes yout hink microsoft is going to continue PIE? i mean dont get me wrong i use it faithful..yea it has its qwerks and tab problems but im usedto the browser and i dont like opera, netfront or piscel browser..there all unfinished worksw ith problems...especially deepfish...but why would microsoft go to such great lengths to prmote this depfish, get a beta version out to the public to give feedback if it wasnt goin to be incorporated into the WM7 software. I mean deepfish was created to rival safari ina nutshell, and i can gurantee you it will be the new windows mobile browser...not PIE..If PIE were to get upgraded....new look, zoom features and touch' scrolling then that would be differnt but there hasnt been any such word that PIE is getting revamped, and the deepfish site is still alive and well. I have the deepfish .cab in my microsd card...if its not wrong to post this download then ill put it out here for some people to check it out and see what they think of itf or themselves...its still in beta and you can barely surf the web but the zoomin has potential..a beta 2 should deff. be in the works for microsoft
yea gq just wait for your provider to drop their revised version of 6.1...im on WM6 also..and i love it and i see no need to upgrade it at all even if t-mobile my carrier drops the upgrade. 6.0 has no problems from what i see and experienced for the past 4 months now that ive had the tilt. And every other thread i see in the kaisers general or software section is something about how an app wont work in 6.1...thats ridiculous, especialy since HTC themselves droped a rom.
anywayz.....boing

Is there any news about improved connectivity with desktop PCs via a newer Activesync/WMDC? Thats the weak link of the current WM platform and the part that needs the most redevelopment. Never mind the flashier bits and bobs on the phone, for me that part does all I need it to at the moment (well would if it weren't for bugs in HTCs WM 6.1 'upgrade'). Its things like decent transfer speeds from the desktop PC that matter more to me.

Deepfish was a technology preview, no more and no less - I don't think it was ever even officially classed as "beta", let alone confirmed as any kind of real product. It was released well over a year ago and since then nothing - no more registrations for the preview, no user feedback ever posted on their feedback page, nada. It's history now.
MS have confirmed that PIE will continue to be improved and developed (as it was with the 6.1 update) and will be completely rebuilt shortly based on IE6 code to make it "desktop grade" - see here: http://www.modaco.com/content/windo...ing-to-windows-mobile-6-1-by-the-end-of-2008/

Thats the thing because the slow transfer speeds are not due to USB bus transfer rate limitations but bottlenecks associated with going through the phones hardware and activesync/WDCM. Have you ever tried transferring a large file directly to your microSD card using it's reader and then tried the same test with the card in the phone using activesync - if so, you'll know what I'm getting at (it's many times slower via activesync even when the card reader and phone are both plugged into the same USB port). The TyTN II is already a USB 2.0 device (but only Full Speed not Hi Speed).
Skyfire sucks because of no word wrap, and loading websites when zooming in.
I still find Opera Mini to be the best browser! Insta-loads the whole site, and word wraps perfectly!
I do beleive it will be IE in the new OS's - alphas of the new IE have been shown - if memory serves me correctly, its based on the windows IE6 core rather than PIE, and has full zooming support.
Now whatever your opinion of IE, you must admit IE is preferable to Safari 90% of the time and you are pretty much guaranteed it will display everything perfectly. Obviously we'd prefer the IE7/IE8 cores, but its deffo a step in the right direction. the concept of MS using any browser than IE is somewhat hard to beleive, and to consider that theyd use a browser that has a desktop equivilent is like admitting theyve lost the browser war - its not gonna happen - so that really discounts minimo and opera (as nice as opera is on the mobile)
I cant find the link to the video i saw of winmo ie6 to back up my statements, i think it was on modaco, but i assume you, i didnt dream it!
oh, typical, i finally hit the post button, and i find it!
http://www.modaco.com/content/windo...ing-to-windows-mobile-6-1-by-the-end-of-2008/
There is a video and a screenshot of it actually working within that post - so this isnt stuff pulled out of the air... plus its shown running on a universal - so that means we could well get this cooked in other roms too. HAZAA!

Deepfish isn't just a browser
I don't think moegdaog get its, I don't think deepfish was ever a browser replacement but a interface idea, that has html able. Also Skyfire sucks, its just a go between until we have full flash support on the device locally.

Opera is comming to andoid

has some problems working with the touch interface since its java derived now, its just the opera mini

Opera Mini is really bad... Opera Mobile was pretty good (on Windows Mobile atleast).

I have to disagree. I found using ie explorer on my mda vario and even other windows mobile devices painfully slow. Once i tried opera mini i never went back. Web browsing on my mda vario with opera mini is still faster than the g1 with googles browser.
Dont get me wrong i love googles browser and the browsing is no where near as slow as what my vario was. But when opera mini comes out, if it works ill be using it.
The only downside to using opera mini i found was somewhat buggy downloads on occasions and not being able to copy links. Also on forums where you click images to enlarge didnt work.
Opera mini might even save you on battery since it reduces how much you have to download.
Its in the market now, opera 4.2 beta! Still it isnt as good as 3g internet of g1.
Stock browser much better
why even release something that isn't as good as the browser that comes with the phone?
I had a samsung instinct (sprint) and the stock browser was so bad (along with every other feature of the phone, except voice searching... still waiting google!!!) that this opera mini would have made the instinct feel like you've switched from a 56k modem to cable.
for the G1 on the other hand, this app is about as useful as 2 @$$holes (I guess 2 would be very useful if you were a porn star ). Still no imbedded flash and slower than stock, what was the point opera? Embarresment? Is the full version going to be that much better? I mean compared to beta, can't be much worst.
I'm sure the newer pda/smartphone/ppc users will revel in a commercial company converting a dumbphone program for the G1 (which shouldn't be dumbphone program compatible!!), but if you've been around the block with these gadgets (I've been around since original tungstens) then you'll understand why I am ranting about the flood of useless apps.
i couldnt agree more santos alot of the market apps are pointless makes g1 and android which is so great look bad
opera mini is aimed at people with limited download allowance, or who dont have 3g. i wouldnt use it because 3g in my area is great and i have a 10gb allowance. so might as well use it.
i think the browser speed of the G1 is phenominal, its just a shame its not as smooth as on my iphone 3g - certainly i find it a lot less convenient for quickly googling things. im hoping the Cupcake update will see me move away from the iPhone entirely but i feel im drifting off topic a little here...
anyway - for those that need it Opera Mini is the app they dream of; for those that dont it is a pointless application.
And to those who install it to save their batteries, well maybe you should think about whether this device is really for you.

You said it all in one question. I agree.
