Flashed Rom Alex v.5.20...Now what? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

I flashed a cooked ROM a few months back (Alex v.5.20) and I just checked my Tilt and I have spl-1.0. OliPof (CID unlocked it etc.) installed on my phone. Well I would now like to flash a new rom like eOS 4.888.FiRe, or HyperDragon III BlackStone.
Question is (since I forgot some of the steps) what should I do now in order to flash one of these newer roms? Do I need a new hardspl version installed?
Do I need to install the Tilts' vanilla rom first then flash or just flash over the custom rom I have installed now? Its been a few months since I poured over and spent hours on here learning the steps and I forgot some of them. Argggg!!!

Reread the tutorials that will have been updated since then to cover those cases?
And you'll see you just need to reflash the new ROM, and if it's a WM6.1 one update HardSPL to the 3.x version recommended for that new ROM.

Thanks for the reply kilrah, I was already paying my dues and reading the updates but the fact that I could just install over the Alex ROM escaped me. I thought for some reason that I had to reinstall the At&t rom again before flashing the new rom. Must of read that somewhere and I misunderstood it. Thanks for pointing a finger in the right direction.

Going back to an older ROM

Okay I am a newbie and I installed the Mr Clean rom which is fine but how would I install the previous rom I had witch was the one from the HTC website? Basically all I am tring to do is change my splash screen and I have no idea how but I want the old rom but it doesn't seem to want to let me roll it back.
OK newbie, try searching the forum for your solutions first - you will be surprised what you might find. This took me less than a minute to locate.

Basicly Faria has put together a bunch of different splash screens which will install in exactly the same fashion as a new ROM would. As it only loads a new slpash screen you will not lose any data. You will also be able to keep the Mr. Clean ROM but have a different splash screen. There are at least 2 HTC splashes listed and the one that I had a quick look at has a preview so you can see which one you prefare before you do the install.
Enjoy...
But is it possible to go back to an older/different rom once you install Mr Clean rom? I currently have a K-jam running the lattest rom, and was thinking about trying Mr Clean rom just to see how it behaves. The only think stopping me is what if I don't like it! Would it be possible to revert back to my current rom?
Can't see any reason why it shouldn't work. As far as I know none of the home cooked ROMs available on the forum have a function that does a compare between the existing and intended ROM versions and prevents any downgrading.
As to whether you will like the newer version, it is hard to see why you wouldn't. Mr Clean's version is spot on if you want the latest OS, the best Radio ROM and a very light extended ROM and with you changing your splash screen to one you like you should be sorted. All you need is to install whatever cab files you need for performance tweaks or network settings.

Well it doesn't! :S Once you use Mr Clean rom you can not go back to the official Kjam rom! My only problem with the Mr Clean rom is that there is somewhat increased consumption compared to the rom I had before! Oh well! I guess I'll just have to get used to it!

Why can't you go back? I've run every ROM sumitter has released. Over the weekend I installed the Mr. Clean ROM . Put on the PDA Mobiz version yesterday. I just went back to the original Cingular 1.08 successfully this morning to double-check this response. IPL, SPL, GSM and OS reflecting changes each time. Now I'm going "back" to sumitter's test2. If you unlocked you SID/sim initially you shouldn't have any problems regarding this. faria documented the procedure back in April.
(yes I love flashing my phone)
I can't believe that the Kjam is that different.....

Well I must have done something wrong then as my SPL is stack at 2.24! I can use the downgrade rom but then can not upgrage to anything but mr clean!

First you need to download and install Button's 1.05 at ftp://xda:[email protected]__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe . Make sure to allow the extended ROM's to execute. All problems solved as Pinhead said.

What will happen if I flash a different radio?

Kinda new here, so if this is an easy one, please dont flame me.
I've been reading about flashing to an HTC ROM, and want to get rid of the AT&T ROM I currently have.
However, I saw someone say "Be careful about the radio ROM" in a post somewhere (in one of the 47,192 that I've read today...)
I currently have radio ROM 1.27.12.11 - can I flash the radio to any other version to accomodate a different ROM? If so, does anyone have a recommendation for a US user so that I can use an HTC ROM?
Please let me know...I'm really confused by all of this stuff.....
Thanks.
- M
nothing will happen if you do everything right...theres a radio thread that lists every radio in the rom section....check it out
Just make sure if you flash to a WM6.1 Rom to flash to a 6.1 Radio. Have a look on the Kaiser Radio Wiki page. it should tell you which are for which, there is also a sticky in the Kaiser Rom Development forum that has a link to a thread all about Radio's.
If you flash to the wrong Radio, you may have trouble with no sound or wierd camera problems, dont worry, just flash to another radio 'til it all works again.
Thanks,
Dave
One more quick question about flashing ROMs....
SHould I remove my SIM and SDcard before flashing?

Precaution gets you further on this long and winding road of flashing.
Of course you should

One of these days, I'll learn to THINK before I flap my jaws.
Thanks again to all!!!
Two things to mention here off past experience. Firstly some of the radio downloads also contain OS roms for the phone, so if you want to only flash the radio then look around. As a guide a full rom with OS is around 55-60 mb as a download. A radio only rom is less than 10.
Secondly some of the beta 6.1 window OS will only work with a wm6 radio for example schap's 4.31.
There's a member called Alltheway who has all of these.

Original HTC Rom

Hi, i am very new to this game. However I have managed to unlock the sim, what I would like to do now is either flash the original HTC rom or Duttys. My question is do I have to flash a specific radio first or just flash. My current radio is 1 27 12 32 and I have hard spl installed.
Thanks

if you are flashing the original HTC rom that radio should be fine. However, if you flash dutty's rom's you need a radio that is compatiable with 6.1roms. search the forum or the thread that is associated with the rom you want to flash.
If the Radio you have is not compatable with the ROM you are using (very common on the latest ROM/radio releases) the OS will probably refuse to boot.
If this is the case, just load the bootloader screen and flash a compatable radio.
Most chefs lift the compatable radios in the 1st post.

Ey up...
I installed the nothrills ROM over my T-Mobile default one. I didn't even think about radio. It seems to work fine. Do I need to worry about this?
No, but you might get better reception/battery life with a more compatible radio
... am I right in thinking the Nothrills ROM changes the radio too? It seems to say it does on the forum page. Sorry for asking, but I'm not clued up at all about this kind of thing.

That's what it looks like.
If you look in "Device Information" you can see the versions you are running.
If it matches the first post then you flashed the radio.

Yep, it's flashed that too. Thanks for such a quick answer.

Yes you can. You can do flash any Rhodium rom with the hacked HardSPL and it won't be overwritten.
you can flash official rom without any worries. but official rom+more & more = custom rom.
Please ask further flashing questions in mskip's flashing guide.
Closed.

If i have to Flash it ( HARD-SPL ) Please help me with it, Even with the tutorial i can't do it on my own.
im so afraid right now!
//edit3
i've turned off HTC Sense, and turned on the normal WM GUI, Very simple but works without problems, so i think that i'ts the Sense that isn't working correct..
Maybe there's a way to sort things out on your phone right now, but I think it would be a lot simpler if you flashed a ROM that already had Sense 2.5 and Cookie baked into it. There are plenty of ROMs here that should do that for you, though of course you would need HardSPL first.
The sticky postings about HardSPL and how to flash ROMs are very detailed and explain things well. But if you have further questions on those then you can ask in those threads.
Someone else might come along and tell you how you can fix your Sense 2.5 right now, but that's beyone what I can do myself.
Thank you for your post, i will upgrade my phone to 2.5 with the ROM from HTC.com
Because i have a unlocked phone i can just download this, lol..
after that i might HardSPL.
thanks!

That doesn't have anything to do with whether your phone is unlocked though, you may well find it doesn't work (saying "invalid vendor id", or similar).
The official HTC ROMs will only work on HTC-branded phones for that specific area/region, unless you have HardSPL.
I live in Europe,
I will download the official HTC Rom for Europe Users,
After fixed, i will try to HARDSPL.
what does it means actually?
spl
im no pro but flashing hardspl will allow "unsigned" roms to be flashed. this means roms from htc and "cooked" roms will work on you're phone.
awsome, didn't know that.!
