When I first ordered my tilt, immediately after I had the fear that the screen would be like most other PDA screens - they get "depressed" when you push them in, they feel plasticy, and they go "weird" when you press on them even slightly hard. To my dismay, the phone WAS like this! A perfect example of a good screen would be the fuze, iPhone, and the at&t quickfire. The screens feel solid, and glassy. Why doesn't the Kaiser have this?

Simple. Don't do that. There's zero problem with the Tilt screen otherwise. Light touches, moderate touches, swipes, finger, stylus, all are fine. Of course this is referring to the digitizer. What you're referring to could be a mix of both I suppose.
I don't *poke* LCDs, it's just a bad idea.

Digitizers like the one used on the Kaiser work by having a soft layer that when touched will warp and touch a 2nd layer slightly below it, which will sense the touch and allow finding the coordinates.
The newer screens like on the iphone use another touch sensing process, but those are very new (the iphone was the first portable device to use one AFAIK), and are only becoming widespread in the current generation - i.e. the one AFTER the Kaiser.
Simple. Don't do that. There's zero problem with the Tilt screen otherwise. Light touches, moderate touches, swipes, finger, stylus, all are fine.

He means that even with the stylus or barely touching with the finger the digitizer will slightly "deform", which you can easily see if watching a reflection on the screen and touching it, and the related softness. It's normal and he isn't abusing it.

HI all, I dont know if anyone has this situation...
Everytime I press on the screen, the screen generates a bit like a water wave and the situation is just like pressing on a LCD monitor.
My old M3100 doesnt have this situation...how about u guyz? do you have water wave when u press on your tytn ii?

Hmmm, maybe it's because you ARE pressing on a LCD screen... I never press hard enough to see it, but I'm sure it would.
Yea seriously, how hard are you pressing? I don't think you need to be pressing nearly as hard as you are. I can see the ripple if I press really hard, but that much force isn't necessary for your taps to be recognized (and its probably not good for the screen).

My current Tilt you barley tap it (like say, you are touching the dial pad to call someone) and it has two large ripples happening.
Is this normal for everyone? I called ATT about this, and they just sent me a new one. I just haven't opened the new one yet.
I found this out cos I am using my finger to use the Touchflo...I didnt apply a very aggressive pressure on it...I even see the ripple when I slide the keyboard out. Is it normal?
no its not normal if you are pressing softly and having wave like that. Please do the warranty exchange.

AT&T just sends you a new phone without even asking for the old one back?
I've seen the small ripple when sliding the screen out. Maybe it's the magnetic switch..who knows. Doesn't happen all the time.

It depends on the LCD panel, there are different types of panel, some will ripple when pressed or distorted even very slightly others don't.
The problem with asking others is there are at least two different types of LCD panel used in the Kaiser. One we know to be transreflective that works in direct sunlight and looks kind of green rather than black when off, and one that's not transreflective that is black when off and doesn't work too well in direct sunlight. These panels may well be using different LCD technologies in other ways meaning not everyone will see the same as you.
Mine isn't transreflective and doesn't do this, so perhaps you have a transreflective type that also ripples under pressure. It isn't a fault with the LCD display, rather HTC sourcing whatever types of panel they can get at the time for the cheapest price. You wouldn't normally use a panel that ripples when pressed on a touch screen for obvious reasons, but HTC have. Maybe it was a shortage in supply and there are not many that use this type?

They sent my second one out to me at no charge. They forgot to include the shipping labels...again... so they will probably just end up letting me keep the device.
Anyhow, my Tilt ripples exactly in the same place that the video showed, and in the same way.

There are different technologies used in the production of LCD panels and how the glass is spaced to give room to create the pockets for the liquid crystal.
Some displays "water" when you press them, others don't, it depends on what the type of LCD display it is. My monitor at work can be pressed and nothing happens, my one at home is the opposite. It's not hard to find this explained on the internet.
The Kaiser is using different types of display using different technologies. Typically for touch screen applications (unless the display as a touch glass front) would not be of the type to ripple when pressed for the reason it will be pressed and flexed, but obviously HTC is supplying anything they can get.

I have came across 2 annoying problems - maybe somebody can help with them.
1) Pressing IE key + action (dpad center key) invokes screen alignment application. I'm using S2U2 and can't find a way to prevent this shortcut from working when phone is locked by S2U2. Because of that screen alignment is accidentally launched often enough to become major annoyance.
Is there any way to fix it? Like disabling screen alignment shortcut, configuring S2U2 to lock hardware keys or in the worst case fully disabling IE key ?
2) The second problem - sometimes i find my kaiser switched to landscape mode. It has happened only when i'm reaching for phone in pocket to answer a call - so it's possible i've accidentally pressed some keys or something. It happened also after i disabled autoswitching to landscape mode after sliding it open.
Of course after it has switched to landscape mode it switches back to portrait, and during this time (which can take few secs and is annoying) i cannot answer the call.
For #1 - stop pressing the IE and Action key at the same time. Pretty simple fix.
For #2 - I don't really have a good answer for you. I would have suspected you were opening the keyboard slightly when pulling it from your pocket, but that wouldn't matter if you disabled the function. So, can't say for sure... are you running 3rd party apps, different ROM, etc.?

What you are describing as annoying are conveniences to those of us who don't carry our phones in our pockets. No, HTC does not make double commands for every function, one to make the phone easier to use and one to disable all the " easy " functions for those who insist on carrying around a $500 phone like it was a pack of 25 cent gum.

I'm not so sure, maybe some people are just careless fools.
I've had my Kaiser for a few months and a Wizard before than for 18 months. Both have been kept in my pocket pretty much constantly and have never had anything more than the slightest of scratches on the casings.
Then again, i'm not stupid enough to keep my phone in the same pocket as coins, keys or other myriad sharp things...

Well, to give you a tip about question #2 if you are going to carry it in the beltcase that came with the phone. If you are not careful pusing the phone up of the case you might just push the keyboard part and it doesn´t take much to trigger landscape mode. By now I get the phone up without this happening but it took some getting used to.
And I would not advise carrying the phone in your pants front pocket. A friend of mine cracked the screen of his brand new N95 this way, tight designer jeans pocket in this case = dead expensive phone.

And what should i do ? Keep it home on the shelf ? A phone is meant to use it. I've found that the screen is hard to clean because of the higher edges. What would be your solution - don't touch it ? The phone is slow when switching to landscape and back - don't use landscape mode ? If something is wrong - it's my fault for trying to use it ?

Actually i was not correct (blame my english) - i'm carrying it in a waist case, not pocket. And from what i've gathered - the magnetic lock could be the reason of switching to landscape mode. I've read something about magnetic locks triggering the slideout sensor.
But my collegue said he disabled autoswitching to landscape mode and was still experiencing this problem (have to doublecheck it though).
As for first case (screen align shortcut) - can't help. I often accidentally press them when taking out of case. Tried to install AEBPlus and remap some buttons, but that didn't help. It actually suprises me why HTC choosed so easily pressed button combination.
A solution would be to stop using S2U2, as the default device lock correctly locks the keypad and this shortcut dosesn't work. It would be pity though, as i came to like S2U2.

Hey everybody. I've been using my Xperia for about 2 months now. However, while messing around with it the other day, I realized that it's kind of shaky. For example, if i "press" against the silver finish all the way to the right of the screen, the top part of the phone shakes a little (like it moves kind of inward). Also, when I press the bottom right soft key, the same thing happens. It shakes a little, and it's not too big of a deal but it's annoying.
Another thing is that the keyboard also slides out very easily. Like way too easily. While using the touchflo 3d with one finger (sliding to the right), for instance, unless my finger is completely dry and moving on the screen very smoothly, the screen moves to the right slightly (the way the keyboard opens).
Also, when the keyboard is out, if i "press" towards the top part of the screen, it also shakes. It feels kind of loose.
I just wanted to know, is this normal? If not, what should I do, as I bought this phone from ebay.
Other than this problem, I love my Xperia. It's very functional and like a mini PC. If it wasn't for this place, though, I think I would have probably been VERY, VERY dissatisfied with my Xperia (with the stock rom).

I think that's out of normal
My Black X1 has about 1mm play, on the left side. On the right side it is less, but it can be felt, exactly as you mention.
As for opening, I have no problem with that, it gives just reasonable resistance.
i try to peat as least pressure as possible while using tf3d. i also dont slide out my keyboard THAT much. and no, no cracks near stylues.
apparently, this is not normal. any advice?
redo the screen calibration, now applying as LITTLE force as you can to get the press registered, and try again. Xperia has some sort of vario force meter on the touchscreen - the more force you use during calibration, the more force you need during normal usage.
another issue i have with my phone (not hardware related) is the fact that when i use high quality on my youtube app, watching the video is sooooooo laggy. is there any fix for this
It's a limitation of the current app, most likely it's incapable of taking advantage of the native hardware decoding the MSM7200/7201/7200A/whatever chipset offers.
ok it doenst happen when i lay the phone down on the surface and click on the screen it works perfectly
however when i hold it with my right hand and touch the middle of the screen with my thumb
it opens up phone dialer, or appdrawer or vibrante cause it clicks the capacitive button.
when i hold it with my left hand it gets a little bit better but it still does.
if i hold the nexus carefully and touch the screen , it works, when i hold it like this
the things gets better when i put a thick case like otterbox..

it's a hardware issue...
all you can do is not grip the phone too closely to the edge of the screen. It registers touches even if you are not touching the screen completely. But that to be a problem you have to have giant hands
I've had this happen to me once since I had it from launch day. It did happen with my Otterbox commuter series, and a clarivue screen protector. But I turned it off and on again and it was fine.

but it does happen when i hold my phone closely to the edges.
i never had this kind of issues with other touch screen phones..

I can confirm that my device too does this. When lying in bed I browse the net with one hand and try and scroll....the edges of the touchscreen seem to register depression when the chassis is pushed or gripped too hard also.
It's a minor irritation to me, but I agree it is a hardware issue.

When I try to slide notifications roll-down panel from the top, it is sometimes almost impossible to do. When I do it with whole thumb, it goes down normally, but when I try with other smaller fingers, it wont respond. Also in chrome, I have problems editing www address bar, because it just wont respond to touch. It responds immediately when the phone is in vertical position and I tap there with my thumb.
Since rest of the screen works fine and that particular area works well in certain conditions, I am wondering, if there is some kind of calibration app or setting for digitizer. Phone has not been dropped down, nor it has scratches or anything on display. I have screen protector and so I assume it can be somehow related to it. I have almost simillar issue with old HTC Touch Pro years back, but there was an option to calibrate touch screen with stylus. So I am just wondering, if someone can advise something to do. I really dont feel like waiting 30 days solving it by dealer.

Not normal, I woudn't bother caliberating it. Just return it to the store, or try warranty via the htc website.
In my case htc always came to my place to get the phone, and they always brought it back after a week or so.

Problem is, that in my country, there is no official service center, thus it has to be sent to our neighbor, and because of that, it takes forever to work it out. I could live with that, if there is no self-help, but I was just wondering whether there is some app or setting or not.
