So, all yesterday, I was having problems getting service anywhere I went. Towards the end of the day I got no service anywhere. So... put my phone on the charger all night, woke up and... Nothing.
Phone wont turn on, battery pull won't work, can't get into bootloader. Orange light turns on when I plug into charge.
I was running the stock HTC ROM with a couple programs installed. Google maps, iContact and Soft Key Changer. Thats it. Had no problems until now.
I called the company I got if from said bring it back they will get me a new one (just got it last Sunday). I can't get Activesync to see the phone so reflash is not a possibility.
They won't be able to turn it on at the store, this thing is gone. But if someone somewhere sees its a new ROM when they send it back (if they can get it on), am I screwed? I think I'd just say the guy in the store did it cause he had is last...
from what I understand you void the warranty by using a different rom.

Thats what I understand too. However, you can't get the thing on, no connections - nothing. They won't be able to tell at the dealer for sure. And I think in this state it goes to the junk pile cause I can't get any connection on it period.
From my dealing with Cingular and having to exchange my 8125/Wizard, they always include the statement regarding voiding your warranty if you load unauthorized rom images on your phone.
That being said, I have sent back many bricked 8125's for various reasons (none of which were bad rom images), and I never had an issue with them actually noticing that I had a custom rom loaded on it.
Of course every carrier is different, but judging from my experiences, I think you'll be fine.

Cool, thanks man. I think I'll be fine too. I feel that the issues has nothing to do with the ROM, as the ROM has been working fine for a few days now with no glitches except for the service problem yesterday. I wont mention the ROm of course, but the thing does not turn on in any way whatsoever. The only thing that happens is when you plug in the power you get a orange light up top.
Thanks for your help, I'm glad they haven noticed even on working phones with different roms.
It sounds like it could be as simple as a power issue. Either charger or battery.
But I had the same thing happen to a Razor once. Bricked at the bootlloader screen and would not take a charge from that point on. My carrier (AT&T) had told me the device was beyond repair (translation: they had no clue at the store). Ended up having to borrow a charged battery to re-flash the device.
Haha, I bricked a razr once too, and was able to revive it with via a number of things (barely). I was trying to change the boot screen. Those phones are fun to mess with - at least you could get into the boot loader most of the time even if it was near death.
I'll try a different battery when I get to the store.
I went to the store just now, they changed the battery and... nothing she tried my battery in a new phone and it worked, so the battery is fine, but my phone is f*cked.
I am replaceing tomorrow.
Have been reading all the forums and had used the info here to put a custom ROM on my T-Mobile Wing. Unfortunately my Wing is now suffering a hardware problem and has to go back for a warranty replacement. This could obviously be a problem if it has a non-standard ROM on it. Because of this, I went ahead and grabbed the RUU_Atlas_TMO_US_4[1].10.531.3_4.1.13.37_02.83.90_Ship.exe file via the threads and attempted to reflash my phone.
I am running the flash attempt from a physical Windows XP system. My phone is fully charged. I have an active partnership set up with the phone and active via ActiveSync. I start the flash process and the phone reboots into bootloader mode as expected. The flash process gets to 1% then the phone reboots into regular mode again and the RUU reports that the flash failed.
Am I missing something?
Update: apparently I was missing something. I had read the thread indicating the phone reboots at 1% and 30% (though mine only rebooted at 1%), but I assumed it would go back into the boot loader automatically which it didn't. On a hunch I tried forcing it into the boot loader and the RUU continued. Weird.
Have you HardSPLed your phone before? If you have, you have to bypass the SPL... Rumor goes, flashing the stock RUU WITH USPL will do this for you. I haven't tried it so I don't know if this will work or brick the device.
I had my phone picked up for warranty this very day. It was running Itje's latest ROM before the 6.1 update, but it totally died on my the other day. So now I'm hoping they won't mind too much about the hard-spl ing and the flashing and the overclocking *cough*
Good luck restoring your phone though. Maybe they won't care, I'm hoping for that

Glad to hear it worked. ^_^ I think that's the second account I hear of it working, so it must be something that DOES work.
Not to raise the dead but good thing I found this thread, worked or me too. Anyone know anything about the warranty replacements tmobile sends out? I'm assuming a refurbished model but anyone know the type o condition they are in?
The model that I got as a replacement, oh so long ago, has been working like a champ since I got it. It looked brand new, but then again, the original had problems not too long after I first got it, when the Wing was still a pretty new device.
Thats good to know, should only have to last me a month or two seeing how tmobile in their infinate wisdom lost the cell tower near my house a few months ago and contract is done on the 29th.... hello tilt!! (or touch pro )
Im really really hoping that someone can help me here
It started this morning around 10:00 or so - I took my phone out to check my messages, everything is working fine. I lock the phone and put it standby (power button) and *surprise*, it locks up and wont come out of standby
So i just re-set it (like im forced to do 20 times a day) and instead of booting it went straight to this red/green/blue screen. At the bottom of the screen it just says "Serial" but doesn't actually give a serial.
I instantly thought it was bricked, so i removed the battery and left it out for a few mins. Then i put the batt back in, and it booted normally. I used it throughout the day with no problems.
Fast forward a few hours and it does it again but now it wont boot at all (ive reset the thing like 100000 times in the last hour ive been working on it).
WTF is going on?? Im really really hoping that it isnt too screwed to fix
The last program I installed was the SPB pack, but that was over a month ago, and i use the phone every day, multiple times a day.
Oh, and to make things worse i was planning on relying on my TomTom tomorrow
and the text on that screen says:
Kais1*0
SPL-1.56.0000
CPLID-8
And at the bottom it just says "Serial" but none is given.
This blows
Have you recently tried to flash your phone? Have you ever? If you never have flashed it or attempted to use Olipof's app, then take it to the store and demand a new one.
Do you see "USB" instead of "Serial" if you connect your sync cable to your phone when in the bootloader?
If so, I would download the latest carrier-branded rom and flash it to your device. As long as the rom is designed for your device, then you do not need to do anything special prior to running the file from your PC.

I have never flashed it but i have spilled water near it (on the counter, the phone got wet but that was months ago and has no relation to this).
Can they check if it has been wet before?
When i plug it into my computer it says USB instead of serial. Should I try to re-flash with an updated rom and see if it fixes it or just take it in?
If you find me on MSN IM ([email protected]) we can run a diagnostic & see what the problem is.

Thanks, ill give you a buzz.
I need to finish and email a few things first (shouldnt take more than 30mins).
Actually, ill just message you tomorrow or something.
Ive been really busy this week.
well did you get it fixed? what did you do?
Yikes, that happened to a friend of mine, but he flashed his and then had to reflash it. I think there is a place on the back under the battery that they use to tell if it's been wet. I would take it back, even if flashing it fixes it, you don't want it to happen again.
oh and it doesn't mean serial like a serial number, it is a serial connection.
I havent been able to get it fixed.
I think ill try to flash it this weekend and see if that fixes it
You'll only make problems worse if you reflash. I've analyzed the MTTY output you've sent me & you have a bad NAND storage blocks.
You need to follow the directions I sent to your email account via MSN IM.
DO NOT REFLASH UNTIL YOU'VE TAKEN CARE OF THE BAD BLOCKS!!!

Although its unfortunate what happened to you, I'm really grateful of all the troubleshooting that you've done before me, so I know what works and what doesn't. Interesting to note that I have had the Tilt since the day it came out, and never cooked/ flashed my rom. I have been using the Tilt rom the whole time with no problems. Otherwise I'm a huge power user and have a ridiculous amt of software installed.
So after everything was all said and done, did you end up just replacing the device? Thanks again man

Anthony,
Yea I went ahead and replaced it. No matter what I did to reflash the original bootloader, and flash the original rom, I always ended up with that same problem. Did you notice that if you can't get it out of the bootloader, but you connect it to your computer, and while it's connect, you soft reset, that it boots? Just curious. that's what happened to me. Either that or I would have to yank the sim and battery, then try.
My tilt was working fine for about a month with a flashed rom, up until I started installing gobs of software on it. Just a thought. If I were you, I would get the device replaced. Especially if you've never flashed a new rom on it - it definitely should not be doing that.

My computer has been broken for a month or two. To answer your question - I haven't been connecting it to anything other than an AC outlet. Anything installed in the last couple months was installed OTA... I usually just obtain a CAB by downloading it directly onto my device.
Also, its weird but sometimes after I drain the batter with the RGB screen then recharge it (this process takes about a day) then hit the reset button, it will actually boot correctly. I am on the third time this has happened. It was bricked for a couple days, then after a combination of charging / depleting got it to boot into windows. Then it happened again, then again.
As long as I don't restart the phone it will stay in windows... If I restart then I lose it for a day or so. Interesting to note that since this has happened, phone calls connect, but I can't hear the other party and they can't hear me.
Also, I use the mini usb out to a 3.5mm stereo jack to stream shoutcast into my car stereo while driving. Last week (at the onset of my problem) the music was playing from the Tilt's speakerphone, and not going through the headphone jack as it normally would. A restart fixed this, but when it happened again a day or so later, the next restart is what got me to that boot screen for the first time.
One of us should post this in the forum...

And just an update, I never sent back my phone or did anything as far as bad blocks go. I just let the battery drain and booted it right up and now it works perfect. I have since installed a few cooked rooms and radios and have had no issues since. This RGB screen was isolated to just those few days that we were talking about in the PMs.

BTW, search the CURRENT threads, in the KAISER forum, & you'll see I've helped a few dozen people with this & similar issues.

Well, this has happened to one of our phones. Can you just post the fix here instead of requiring the email/IM rotuine?
I was running one of the ENERGY ROMs on my TP2, so it's got a different SPL and all that. I then put it in the box for about 5 weeks. I took it out two days ago to install XDANDROID. I used XDANDROID for about an hour, until the TP2 started randomly shutting itsself off. I've tried flashing NRGZ28's ULTRA LITE ROM and the official T-Mobile USA 6.5 ROM for the TP2. It won't go past the boot loader a majority of the time. When it does, it goes on to act like it's flashing the RHODIMG.nbh on my MicroSD but almost instantly after it starts, it shuts off again. It doesn't always try to flash the .nbh, but when it does, it never finishes. It's the same story with a hard reset. I can't ever get it to turn on, and the only way it does turn on is to do a battery pull. If I'm lucky, it'll stay on for about 60 seconds and then shut off again. I'm really clueless as to what to do here and I'm hoping someone can help me.
The Bootloader reads as folows:
RUUNBH
RHOD210 32M SS-BC
SPL-0.85.OilNex
MicroP(LED) 0x0A
MicroP(KEY) 0x04
TURBO HW/TURBO SW
TP MFG DATA
[unreadable]
812,19...
217.855 Calibrated
The reason 1.5 of the lines is unreadable is because of the message over it: "Upgrade ROM code error. please try again."

try flashing hard spl 1.01 it looks like you got an old version of the spl. read the sticky on flashing for newbies i belive it tells you how to do the hard spl if you are having difficulty by usb connection other than that i wouldnt know what to tell you i nver had that problem only bad flashes but those could be solved by reflashing another ROM
Sorry, i should have explained that better. I can't connect to the PC. It won't stay in bootloader mode so I can't flash it that way either. From what i understand, the only way i can flash anything to it right now is to get the xxxx.nbh file, rename it to RHODIMG.nbh and place it on the root of my SD. When I do that, though, it won't finish the flash. It just keeps going in a loop. about every 5 minutes it randomly turns on and tries to flash the RHODIMG.nbh if present. If it's not present, it just flashes the boot loader for >10 seconds and shuts off again.
Also, I'm not sure if this makes any difference, but I've had TWO computers recognize it as a new device, "Qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM."
Make sure the battery has a good charge, nothing else springs to mind
PS. the qualcomm thing is what appears when it's flashing via USB
also maybe try formatting your SD card and put the stock ROM back on there, or try diff card

it sounds like you dont have your sd card formatted make sure its format to FAT32 go to your computer inserd sd card & reformatted (make sure its a micro sd & that its less than 2g) then transfer the ROM to the card already renamed to RHODIMG then inserd ur card on your phone & flash it. it should work. let us know what happens

I figured that's what that was, I was just a little shocked that it said CDMA.
And I tried wiping the card and reflashing, but it did exactly the same thing.
See at the top of your bootloader readout, where it says RUUNBH? That means the RUU flag is set, and that needs to be unset before you can do other things. What you need to do is establish a connection with your device via MTTY. Follow the instructions here about how to do that. Once you get an MTTY connection established with the device (it may take awhile since MTTY is quirky sometimes), type
Code:
Set 16 0
You may need to manually soft reset afterward, but otherwise you should be in the clear
The TMO Stock ROMs can install via PC even if your phone has a faulty USB connection. The stock ROM installer will keep restarting the phone's USB connection automatically as needed if your phone can't appropriately flash in one straight attempt. You can get the newest stock ROM here. And definitely install HardSPL again after getting the phone up and running on the stock ROM.
You might also try MTTY.exe. When connected, run the command 'set 16 0' then 'task 8' then 'task 0'. If your phone doesn't automatically soft reset, then manually soft reset with the stylus.
will MTTY.exe work via parallels on a Mac? I haven't tried it yet, but I have limited access to a PC. also, I tried doing the HardSPL and the TMO rom via PC, but the phone just does the same thing. It will connect, but then the RUU tries to check the phone settings and the phone shuts off. this is the problem i am having. i just cant get it to say on long enough to do anything. I'll try the MTTY.exe through parallels and if it won't respond, I'll have to wait to try it on a PC. I'll let you know how that goes.
MTTY is quirky enough that it probably won't work through parallels, though there's no reason you shouldn't at least try and see if it works. You'll probably have to wait until you can get access to that PC. Best of luck

also, in reading your sig, i see that i was using the same SPL that you are. have you had any problems with it?
I was also using the ENERGY LEO ROM [i now see that you are using it too.], which apparently was defective because the next day, the chef posted a new one because of "sleep of death." I read through the thread and didn't see anyone with the issues that i was having.

I haven't had any problems with this SPL, but then again, this is the only end-user version of HardSPL for GSM devices that's been made available. The SPL isn't even your problem, the only problem is that a bootloader flag is set which shouldn't be.
As for the EnergyROM sleep of death problem, that's not what you're suffering from. The sleep of death problem is when your device won't resume after being put into standby, meaning one must soft-reset their Rhodium and lose any unsaved data in open programs. It's a somewhat common problem among many HTC devices, from the old ones like the Kaiser to the newer ones like the Rhodium (though I don't think any Android device has this problem).

Eh ? Sorry, but I think you're confused. He's running 0.85 HardSPL, which is the one and only version for GSM Rhodiums.
I got to a PC and tried MTTY.exe

Any suggestions?
EDIT: I can get it to connect to a different version of MTTY.exe for a short time, but I can't type anything. All I get is a blinking cursor.

I had this EXACT same problem a week ago. I fell asleep in the middle of flashing, the phone died when it finished. I woke up, turned on the phone, ENERGY leo was trying to run its install but kept dying. Smart me, I tried to reflash (by holding the vol down button and turning it on- not through usb) and it kept dying in the middle of trying to flash.
The problem is the battery. It can't charge when it's flashing and it can't hold a charge long enough to get past the flash.
I swapped batteries with my friend, restarted the flash and it worked fine.
I let my battery charge in my friends Sprint Hero
and voila, everything went on happily ever after.
tl;dr find a way to use a charged battery while flashing.
your phone's not bricked.

I just got mine, even flashed the ROM for mine (T Mobile) and this phone freezes almost literally every 5 minutes and programs freeze a lot and won't allow me to open any other programs and I'm just curious if this is common with other people? You can flash HD 7 ??? never knew it lol what did you flash it with...
I do get a bit of lag now and then if i open too many programs, but not that bad
must say MS has done a good job of winmo 7 hope the updates come soon though
What ROM? How did you flash? Where did you buy the device.
This is the FIRST device I am using with MS OS on it, that actually did not freeze on me at all. The WP7 on my HD7 is fluid, fast and stable. Not a single freeze or hangup. Of course if you are talking about loading of apps like Twitter and Facebook, well, they take time to update and thats an App issue. Not th OS issue.
I think there is something seriously wrong with your device or what you have done with it. Better call up the customer care and get a replacement.
Not even one freeze in 8 days
I flashed the official TMOUS ROM that's been posted in these forums, and nah I mean it way freezes like every 5 minutes... guess I'm the only one with the problem then ? Even factory resetting it still freezes then reboots like every 5-10 minutes... man this sucks, and the phone is so fluid though...
I do mean it freezes/reboots A LOT!
Is there any way I can get a replacement even though I bought it off a friend? (practically straight up brand new) Like lie or something to T-Mobile and say I got it off some smaller T-Mobile dealer? The phone is scratchless and scuff free.
Or any suggestions?
Is it possible that it's a hardware issue? I don't think it could be though...?

T-Mobile has a 14 day return policy, and if your friend purchased it on contract (new line, or as a upgrade), then only he can return it as he will be asked for proper ID in order to identify himself as an authorized person the account.
If he bought it outright (full price) and gave you the receipt, you should be able to go back to the same store and return it and get a new.
Either way, I'd say return it and get a new one. And however you flashed it, don't. Its perfect out of the box. Not once has the phone froze on me.
Blah guess I just got bad luck , it seems to freeze 90% of the time whenever I start up the HTC Hub and am in it or go to the main screen. But thanks everyone for your input .
you still haven't answered what rom you flashed.
Also, maybe your friend knew it was defective and hosed you.

he did actually answered on post #9
anyway, does anyone experienced a lockup when using the alarm when the alarm sets off but left alone for a long time? cause i tried using this phone as an alarm but could never wake me up even on full blast volume. so it is left there for hours .. then when i do eventually wake up .. i see the snooze and dismiss buttons up front and when i tried pressing any of the buttons ..the phone doesn't respond.. so i restart the phone and its back to normal.
Ah yeah guess I did get scammed blah. Oh well, **** happens... the one time I did use the alarm it worked for me and woke me up.
But I seriously wonder why it's all super messed up?
Could it be a hardware problem?
Hmm and right when it freezes it automatically enters airplane mode... then stays frozen until I take out the battery.
EDIT: Actually it seems like the HTC Hub makes it freeze 90% of the time and makes other apps not pop up or nothing. Bah! Would like an update (when HTC/Microsoft releases one) fix this problem?
Please, can you tell us, HOW excatly you've flashed a new ROM , because I thought it was actually impossible before someone find a kind of HSPL or something like that for WP7 ????

I flashed mine because of reboot issues too. Mine would reboot and not only that it would hard reset ! After the flash the phone works like a charm. No freezing, no reboots, no hard resets.
Be sure to choose the right one. I don't believe these are upgrades in anyway, just a fresh ROM to install to start from the beginning.
mine hung at the white splash screen / boot screen, so i hard reset (dialled into my memory from HD1 days!) and it was fine. Took the SIM card out later to put into HD1 to write down things to manually move across (cheers MS for no easy option to migrate*), put it back in, frozen again.
Hard reset: still frozen. Doesn't seem like anything i can do - phone seems bricked. Will have to take back - can't find anything on forums. LAME!!!
*option to migrate / set your own ringtones / use swype / send texts, etc, will be available from 2011
OP, have you called htc and reported the problem. It might take them a couple weeks, but they will warranty it for you since you can't take it to t-mobile.
It has to be hardware if it did it before and after flashing.
call htc @ 888-356-2375 (for USA HTC)
If you have an SDCARD in the phone it could be the problem, remove it.
