AT&T and HTC... - Off-topic

Why is it that they keep all the other names for cell phone makers like LG, Samsung, Nokia, Motorola etc
It seems HTC is the only one they *change* to AT&T.
Before the Fuze came out it was the AT&T phones support there was no sign of HTC anywhere.

That is true for old phones, but indeed AT&T kept the name for the fuze. They just changed to to the fuze from the touch pro, just like every other company does, but they still kept the HTC. Thus, the HTC Fuze.

It's called branding and AT&T is not the only company to do it. Many companies purchase items from a manufacturer or distributer and brand the item to appear as their own.

Or how about my "xv6900", I don't even respond with that when asked what phone I have. I gotta say the HTC Touch.
I mean why xv? 6900? How did this number even start 6700 > 6800 > 6900?
Where is 0000 to 6600?

yea man,. sometime i was wondering the same,. where is 000 to 6600 ? lol

Yeah but its like HTC is the only one they rebranded to be AT&T
they dont say AT&T Motorola or somthing like that

Honestly, the only reason the Fuze is the "HTC Fuze" is because Apple gave a precedent. HTC was able to grow the balls necessary to tell AT&T "no" when asked to rebrand the Touch Pro as the AT&T Fuze/TP. It makes total sense, in terms of marketing, I wouldnt let the double standard stick, that Apple doesn't let AT&T rebrand the iPhone to the AT&T iPhone, and then forces the "smaller" company into rebranding their flagship product... Good for HTC, because now they're growing brand recognition with the "normal" users out there (we already knew how good HTC was, even if our device wasnt named HTC )
Just my 2 cents.

Yeah that was well put. That was a good call to stand up to AT&T they needed that

Good News for Att customers who have the Tilt and can't wait to upgrade to the Tilt 2

I called At&T yesterday because I was having trouble with my Tilt, and was just having a nice conversion with one of the reps. I caught her slipping, she told me some News that I don't think she was suppose to tell me. She informed me that the upgrade Tilt 2 (Touch Diamond) she be coming out for us in a couple of months. I think she was not lying because I didn't mention anything about that phone, I was talking about how my Tilt always gives me alot of trouble.
The reason I think she slipped up and told me information she was not suppose to, is because when I ask her to tell me more about that phone, she put me on and came back and said. "Oh I'm sorry I don't know if that phone will come out." I think she was just trying to save her self from making the mistake of giving me some inside info. So let's cross are fingers and hopefully this phone will be out Aug or early Sept.
Edit:
She said the Touch Diamond not the Pro, but that would be even better if it is the Pro.
If I am not mistaken, the 'Tilt 2' is meant to be the Touch Pro, not the Diamond.
yes with sdhc port, keybord like kaiser, flash on the APN ...

That is what she said was just the Touch Diamond, but I want the Pro anyways so I hope it is the Pro. I just want AT&T to bring something out fast, because I'm tired of this 3G Iphone that Apple is always hypeing up. The Iphone can't even receive picture mail....... I will even except the Omina if that comes out first, you can't beat the bigger screen and 5 mp camera.

Replacement for XDAIIi

I've enjoyed the XDAIIi but it's getting too long in the tooth now.
Can anyone suggest a modern replacement unlocked PDA available in the UK for use with an existing O2 SIM?
I like the 3.5" screen, the app multitasking and the stylus rather than a purely touch screen...
Doubling as a GPS navigator would be great too.
Something like the iPhone would be fun but it strikes me as too fiddly to do the amount of typing and word processing I like to do.
Thanks for any suggestions...
M
Anyone got the URL of a helpful XDA forum?
Coucou !
What about a HTC Touch Pro2 ??? Also called Rhodium here and there?
Screen 3,6", aGPS included...
For me, one of the best nowadays!
OK thanks.
One additional factor is that I get a corporate discount on the iPhone, so £200 cheaper than the HTC...
I've ordered one but am still not sure I've made the right choice.

Hey Mus , I am desparate to get an iPhone but simply can't afford one at the moment.
I have a Nokia N95 8Gb to either sell to someone/ some company or sort out a part ex deal.
I reckon I can sell my Nokia ( an amazing phone , incidently but not as nifty as an iPhone) for about £100 .
If you don't like your iPhone , please contact me
PS You couldn't order another one through your company ( FOR ME ) Nudge Nudge Wink Wink !
Well, there are contractual obligations that I would think twice about for friends and family and wouldn't even consider on behalf of a stranger...
I sent the iPhone back until I can properly check the alternatives

That does look good. Or I might be able to get a Touch HD 2.
The main thing I need to consider is how different is WinMo 6 from WM2003? Is being able to use a stylus and multitask worth forgoing the apps, surfing and multimedia whizzbang of the iPhone or has HTC caught up with that a little?
Unlike the iPhone it's hard to find a live device to play with in a shop.
Coucou!
I understand it's barely available in shop to "play" with...
But for all you're asking for, it's perfect. Not as smooth, sadly, as an iPhone, but much more improvable (correct word?), may be as efficient, and so pleasant to use with the Manilla interface.
Really, I won't change my Rhodium for an iPhone, even with money!
OK thanks.
How much of an improvement is WM 6 over 2003? Is it faster surfing, does it do flash streaming? Generally I switch graphics off on the XDA over GPRS.
M
OK, so it's much of a muchness with WM2003 then? No improvements?
Coucou!
Of course, there are lots of improvements, graphic interface, usage, memory, applications, .......... and ......... and .........
You can read everywhere what are the improvements.......
Yeah, just wish I could find a live one to try out for myself.
I went to an O2 shop and they didn't have one and say they have been selling less and less WinMo phones. They said they have stopped offering the XDA range and don't expect to stock the Touch HD 2 until January if at all.
Don't know if all that is true but I really dislike Apple for making every manufacturer think that a stylus is old hat. For typing the Apple is not a business phone, it's a consumer toy.
The Touch Pro 2 does look good , though I am reluctant to pay full price for it.
Tried out a live Hero yesterday - iPhone wannabe with less useful apps (for me)
Wonder what happened to that patent HTC took out on a capacitative stylus?
The 3g shop said they used to sell the Touch Pro 2 but nobody ever bought one so they stopped.
Also why aren't the prices of the Touch Pro 2 at rock bottom if there is no demand?

Omg its a windoze phone.

I am actually fed up of everyone raving about the 'new windows phone'. I know its a good thing it just starting to bug me a little. All I hear my friends saying now is OMG I want a windows phone! And Im just there thinking I've had one for the last 6 months! They've been around for years! Theres nothing new!
Atleast the ad campaign in working though!
Anyone else fed of people thinking windows mobile's are new?
i agree mike, theres a lot more apps for winmo than there is for apple iphone
but the advertising hasnt let the people know
i myself am the only person at work with one of these phones (touch hd)
and now both my supervisor and his boss want winmophones
A worry for me now is everyone will expect them to be a computer and then this forum will slowly fill up with stupid morons trying load XP on it.
As for mike's point about advertising that is so true. If Microsoft did advertise (or Htc) then they would sell 10x more because 'Windows' is on there.
Haha! Agreed 200% with everything said so far.

Too late for the morons part. We saw that when the Tilt came out and they basically gave it away for free. Using a 'Windows Phone' is really quite a different experience and these phones are light years away from being idiot proof. That's why I love them.

Hadn't seen it but don't think it's odd infact a advert that doesn't go we can do this, we can do that and still gets the point across
Just good to see advertising as it's long awaited.
Well windows phone is light years ahead of the so called I-Prone ... even a win mo released around 05 can beat the I-Prone.... and the one thing that I-Prone can never give is the customization that we get from win mo... we can select the brand the ram, processor, screen size, design but with I-Prone there's no specialty....
And i think they should also have a app to show different screen resolutions or may be different brand name LOL...
Definately, thats all I hear WINDOWS PHONE WINDOWS PHONE
Someone was telling me about the 'windows phone' about 1 hour ago, and pulled out my Touch HD, got onto the settings menu and showed him device information - Windows Professional 6.1 lol.
I guess with the TouchFLO 2 people are thinking it is some other software.
Talking to an iPhone owning friend yesterday "Windows is getting into mobile phones now" he said. I nearly fell off my chair laughing!

Thats a very good advert!! Now they need to put it up on TV!!
i dont know about you all but in Latvia Iphone was advertised on TV , nokia also, but no sign of HTC!! I didnt knew about HTC until the end of 2008, when I wanted to buy a Dell Axim, but my dads cousin suggested HTC cause theyre good(he works with computers and follows the news about technology)- thats how I got familiar with the name HTC, and bought myself a Touch HD!! Only thing Im dissapointed about is- when I bought Touch HD I didnt knew about SE X1- if I would have known then it would be a much harder choice for me (between HD and X1, not HD and Touch Pro) But still - Im happy with HD

I just seen it earlier on UK TV, went to youtube to find it
Finally when i harp on to people about HTC they will know what i'm talking about
The night before last, my wife and I were watching T.V. and the new HTC commercial (the one showing the Hero, but without saying what model or service) came on and she said, "Wow, that's cool. Too bad it's only for Sprint." I said, "No, HTC phones are available for most carriers." She replied, "No, it just said 'Sprint'." I answered, "That's the HTC Hero, and it's available through Sprint. Other HTC phones are available on other carriers." She asked, "Then why don't you have one?" I picked up my Imagio and showed her where it says "HTC" on the back cover.
ETA: I've had WinMo phones since the XV6600 with WM2003
HTC phones have been out for ages now, but with this new advertising campaign and their new sense UI type handsets I think its going to quickly make it to the top. Ive been seeing more and more people on the street with HTC's and smart phones in general a good trend.

htc st6356?

This is the 2nd time I've had to do a warranty exchange for my beloved Tilt. I spent almost an hour talking to a lovely lady @ AT&T's warranty line. She said her supervisor could do a "one time courtesy exchange" for something other than the Tilt. I was offered the Pure, Fuze or some junkBerry. I told her that the whole reason that I chose the Tilt was because it does just that...TILTS. I said I have had problems with refurbs and my 1 year warranty is about out and I wanted a comparable replacement. She went to her supervisor again and was told she could replace my Tilt with the htc st6356 . She says that it IS the TILT 2, however, when I type in htc st6356 online, it shows up as the Pure. Is this right? I searched it online as she said it and I told her it shows up as the Pure. She told me that her supervisor confirmed it was the Tilt 2. Any thoughts? I will absolutely return this if it isn't the Tilt 2, but it's just wasting my time.
King
I forgot to mention that when I questioned her about how my searched showed it as the "Pure", she acknowledged. She stated that 3 different models show up under that number, however, her supervisor confirmed the TILT 2 was the HTC6356. I told her a couple times that I would trust her.
I had to do a lot of negotiating with her and she definitely did a great job working with me and her supervisor. I don't think my request was out of line (guess I'm just trying to justify my desire for the latest and greatest replacement). I know some parts of the phone conversation, if not all, are recorded.
If I get anything other than the TILT 2, would I have a legit case in 'demanding' what I was promised?
Yea, you can probably tell I'm feeling uneasy...
King
Oh so you're going to sue because you don't get the tilt 2 ? Man how much money would you be wasting on that endevour.
Did you ask the lady to go to their website and see that they have a pure and a tilt2?
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-phone-service/cell-phone-details/?device=HTC+Tilt2&q_sku=sku4030272
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-ph...details/?device=HTC+PURE(TM)&q_sku=sku4000289
SUE? Who ever said anything about that? I wouldn't waste any money on a legal complaint. It seems that AT&T can bend the rules when they want or maybe they just don't tell you what your true options are. I was simply saying that I hope I don't have to jump through more hoops to get the replacement that I was promised. Aren't these phone conversations recorded?

Yes they are recorded, but for educational purposes only... They use the recordings as teaching supplies to the customer service employees. It will not be used in any legal matter, as you usually aren't informed of them recording the conversation...
I assumed they were recording when they were reading the terms of the replacement.
They came through for me and I must say I am very impressed. I spoke with them at around 8pm last night and my new phone was here this afternoon. Unfortunately, it was what I expected, the Pure. I called customer service and they were very understanding and checked for the availability of the Tilt 2. It's on it's way and I get to mess with the Pure in the mean time.
I miss my keyboard already.
Great experience with ATT and not just because I got a Tilt 2 out of it.
sue? why else would you say this?

As a " courtesy " they are giving you a brand new phone for a two year ( model year ) old phone and it is your second exchange and they are not giving you a hard time.
Pure ? Tilt2 ? If it was me , I would just take what I could get. My Tilt just totally bricked and could not be recovered last year, and as a " courtesy " they gave ME a refurb Tilt.
whats up Denco?

[Q] HTC's Coustomer Service Experiences?

I'm moving from a iPhone to a HTC One and I would like to know if their customer service has changed since 2010 (Heard very bad stuff about them back then). Are they good or is it still the same as 2010. I would like to get a rating from anyone here.

Its really comparable to apple care?
I haven't dealt with them (I sent my faulty phone back to my operator) but I have heard LOTS of bad things about them over here in Europe (England specifically).
Some people have sent their phone off 5-6 times, some have had to wait a month to get their phone back.
I think their customer service may be better/worse in different parts of the world.
They're no worse than the likes of Samsung but NO phone warranty is comparable to Apple Care. Coming from a 4s I was amazed at their service.
In saying that, I was very happy with how my operator dealt with the problem (Three).

This is what i'm talking about. That is whats stopping me from choosing the HTC one, But I want the build quality of the HTC one. I need more people to help me with this...
I dealt with them in July for a screen rpair(replacement) due to damage.
When we called, got right through to a person. Sent phone off and had it back in less than a week. There was a slight issue with the sim tray, but swapped it out at AT&T and all was good.
Also I've beenwaiting on my Google Play code from them, but once I emailed them I got responses back real quick on that. Still waiting on the code, but they said it would be a few weeks.

In terms of repair and actually talking with them on the phone - yes
In terms of obtaining a promotional item(ie $25 google play credit) not so much lol.
The main thing is if I had to choose all over again between the iPhone, S4 or the HTC One I would still choose the One.
Wife made the jump from iPhone 4S to One and has been much happier than with her iPhone.
As above, I love my One and wouldn't go back to iPhone unless they really really pulled something out of the bag. However, you will not get better than Apple support.
If all you care about is support (which is important to some people), then no other manufacturer will offer anything close to what Apple offer.
Me personally, even though Apple support is great I wanted the best phone for me and that was the HTC One.

iOS has just gotten to boring. I want the build quality of a iPhone and android. HTC would be the phone to go for me. Anyone else dealt with HTC before?
TBH there is nothing on the market comparable to Apple Care. I know of friends who have broken a device and walked into and out of a corporate store in 20minutes with a brand new phone, not a refurb. This goes from iPhones to iMacs.
That being said is it 'really' that important to you? If so then don't leave the apple hedge maze

Agree with what others are saying after coming from iPhone as they are boring the HTC One is a great phone but had a problem with it after 2weeks received it back after 9days and phone was damaged with chips taken out of phone and barely literally barely packaged.
So now have to go through the painful process of getting this sorted. It's a great phone but no other company would come close to apple care I've had phones changed there and then. I'm from UK by the way.
