Hey people say when I am in a call with them that my voice goes really soft sometimes and they can't hear me..
It's only after I flashed a new ROM that this started happening, I tried going back to the previous ROM I was using but still had the problem...
Is it my radio?

Most likely! Try a few other radios and see which works best for you!
What ROM are you using?
You went back to Which rom with same issue? Stock? The radio would be an issue with a custom rom, not stock. Adjusting general sound volume does not affect "in call" volume settings; check your voicemail or make a call then check your volume setting while in call...there are some custom roms that have a bug where dialer volume defaults to very low or zero volume even after adjusted...

Hi,
my speaker is very loud but only for ringtones/media. the loudspeaker for a phone call is very low and the in call volume is very low!
i've tried using louder hack 1.4 but it hasnt made any difference, is there a way I can make my loudspeaker "loud"?
thanks
I am having a similar problem. I am running cyanogen 4.0.1 and thats it. I noticed that when on a call, whether on loud speaker or not, adjusting the volume does nothing... I can see the slider moving up and down, but the volume does not change... I did try the audio hack, even the purchased version using V6. I have since done a wipe, and then of course flashed cyanogen. Anyone have any ideas?
Edit: I did forget to mention that I do not have the proper radio image installed for the 1.5 based ROMs, so I will install that and see if it helps.

Well holy cow, it worked. The radio I flashed for 1.5 is here: http://www.htc.com/www/support/android/adp.html#s3
Download the radio image zip, rename to update.zip, boot into recovery console (power off, then press Home and Power until it turns on) and update. For those who don't know how to do this, I recommend using the "Pinmped out recovery console 1.4", but it is not required. If you are using the factory recovery console, press ALT-L when you see the triangle with exclamation mark (!), and then I think it is ALT+S to apply the update. When it is done, press Home+Back button to reboot. You don't need root to apply the radio update, but I cannot remember if you need root to install the updated recovery image. Don't know if you need the radio image? Goto Menu > Settings>About Phone. Find your base band version. Then go to the link I posted above and see if you have the right radio image for your base system image...
wow! that actually worked thanks man!
my in call volume is still quite low but i can actually hear my loudspeaker now!

I noticed that I had to either reboot, or you'll have to first bring the volume all the way down, then back up. I think the hardware may have "lost sync" with the actual volume indicator. My loud speaker and in call speaker volume is great now.
Glad I could help.
im new to the rooting G1 thing, i have mno volume control while in calls and its REALLY annoying and also quite loud. im running cyanogenmod 4.2.9.1 and hadnt noticed this problem until today.
please, if anyone can help id REALLY appreciate it
EDIT: it seems like the volume goes from loud (when turned all the way "down") to louder (all the way "up") and theres a nearly unnoticeable difference in volume

I have experienced the same problem on the same ROM but never thought it was that big of an issue to start my own thread. But since you started on, I guess I will jump on the bandwagon. Sometimes the volume control problem is sporadic and it will work, but I havent really noticed when the times are that the volume works (like after a reboot). I'll try to take notice, also, I'm not sure a logcat would help otherwise I would provide it on the CM thread. Anybody want to weigh in on this and see if its worth raising the issue on the CM thread? If I can't produce a logcat then I doubt Cyanogen will be able to reproduce the problem and therefore will not be able to address the situation.
BTW, I also have Meltus's latest AudioHack. I figured I'd mention it since it has to do with the volume.
Hamtoast, do you have the AudioHack?
i dont have the audiohack, though i thought about getting it after i noticed this problem. i wasnt sure if itd help though and didnt want to shell out the $2 or however much it costs. my volume is otherwise fine and i have no other issues with it (like being too quiet, which is why most people get the audiohack to my understanding).
this issue we are experiencing is of course not of major importance and doesnt interfere with use, but personally i adjust volume regularly while on the phone, depending on my location and who im talking to. its rather inconvenient not being able to do it.
Okay, so the whole slight volume change was false, there is absolutely zero difference in volume during calls. I read somewhere that it could be an issue with the radio. i was planning on getting the newest radio and danger spl soon so as soon as i get a new sd card ill be testing that to see if the radio is the issue. i will also be trying a hero rom so if CM is the problem i will find that out.
I have a similar problem where my phone is one step from maximum volume (in call) it will not go up to max unless I press volume down them go up. I do not have the audio hack fyi. I guess it may be worth bringing up for cyano to prehaps work on because we r all running his rom with and without audio hack and having problems with volume. I am sure that others are havimg similar problems aswell.
I have the exact same problem. I am going to have to go to a different ROM because of this my phone is new and talking to most people is ear splitting.
i guess ill bring it up in a cyano forum or send a message or something. it certainly is annoying, and it does seem to be related to the ROM.
i dunno if you all are having this issue or if youve noticed or not but it could be related... anyway, if im using headphones and get a text or email or phonecall (anything requiring some sort of notification) i lose all sound to my phone until i reboot it. i checked the builds and it said he addressed some headset issue in 4.2.9.1 but it seems to be there still. just wonderin if anyone noticed that.
ill be looking into cyano forums and trying to find a fix.
@HamToast,
I have mostly noticed just general sound loss. Not anything really related to the headset. Notifications will drop out, phone won't ring sometimes, volume control problems etc. For example, right now, no matter how much I adjust the volume, the sound coming from the screen clicks are always the same volume.
Also, I have the latest radio and the Danger SPL so I'm not sure if that has any bearing on the sound issue. My signature is up to date with the exception of running both the latest CM build as well as the latest Amon_RA recovery image.
aw you have the latest radio and danger spl? im running older radio/spl and was hoping an upgrade would help
i wonder what the issue is with this sound buginess... i went to the newest CM 4.2.10.1 and it was so slow with a considerable amount of hangtime in certain apps, so i went back to 4.2.9.1. the sound issues werent fixed in x.10 or x.10.1
HI All,
I've noticed for some time now that before I flash a new ROM, when I go back to stock JF6 the audio in the boot up screen will blow your doors off. After flashing CWM, the audio is there but it is must less pronounced. I've also noticed that while using the speakerphone or the earpiece during regular calls, I struggle to hear the caller on the other end. It's fine before I flash CWM.
Anyone run into this before and if so, what can be done about it?
Thanks in advance!
Dan
I too have been wondering about the volume. I thought it was the rom I was running. I'm currently on phoenix 4.5 with firebird 2 v0.7 kernel. It seems like my volume is lower when I call another cell but fine if I call a land line.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
i noticed this too. i use speakerphone alot, and it IS quieter now i use custom roms, and i use speakerphone MORE NOW because the earpeice is hard to hear.
Fix for Low Ear Peice abd Speaker Volume
I am not a programmer but I was wondering with all the talent on this site why is it impossible to have a fix for the terrible in-call volume the Captivate has. I have tried the settings in the service menus, but havent seen anything worth while.
Non of those settings stay past a reboot anyway.
The phones hardware is able to output the louder sound, I dont understand why we cant fix the low in-call volume on the earpeice and the speaker phone?
HELP!!!!!!
this post beat you by a few hours and is a little more specific/accurately worded (your post isnt a fix)

Thread merged with a similar one. I think the poster above U is asking a question (interrogative icon) and not stating he is posting a fix.
Cheers,
I noticed that it's CWM that is killing the audio (for me at least) before I flash a new ROM.
My HTC One has extremely low in call volume from the mic. I can hear the person I am calling or who called me fine but they can't hear me or barely able to hear me. I downloaded a sound recorder app and when I talk into the mic in that app it plays back at a reasonable volume. Would a different radio file fix this problem?
I had this issue with my One X for awhile, come to find out, there was lint stuffed up in the mic hole.. Check that first.

I am having the same problem. when I am in call, if i switch to speaker phone it instantly becomes loud clear. I am going to RUU back to stock GPE or stock Sense to see if it fixes the problem.
Ill report back to you if it does.

did it work?
I have the same problem with my replacement phone. I'm sending it back to TMO for another. From what I've read it seems like a hardware issue related to the noise cancelling microphone.

My nexus 5 arrives tomorrow. Once I have that in hand, I am going to fully wipe my HTC One, RUU back to stock and S ON the phone to be sent back to HTC for a replacement. I will test the microphone before sending it back to see if the full RUU fixes it but I doubt it will.
I flashed several diff firmwares, h boots, kernels, roms etc on the phone and none of them had an effect of the mic. The microphone problem appeared out of no where when I was running a rom and kernel combination that previously had no issues. In other words, I changed nothing and the problem arose. No combination of software changes yielded any improvement in my limited testing. I am quite sure this is not a solvable problem as it is hardware related and that you should likely send your phone in for a replacement.
After a quick search I've found that a lot of other people are experiencing the same problem on other phones. I opened this thread because no one has reported this problem yet on a LG p880.
I've flashed the latest cm11 nightly and will continue to do so every day. The version I am running now is 11-20140115-NIGHTLY-p880.
After a clean restart outgoing calls work normally. After a couple of outgoing calls in call volume drops dramatically (I can barely hear the ringing tone before the other person picks up and then I can barely hear the other person talk). Incoming calls work normally. The problem continues until I restart my phone or I get an incoming call. Then the same happens all over again, first two - three calls work normally then in call volume drops.
I've tried making calls with and without a Bluetooth device and with and without the stock dialer. I've also tried merging calls and putting calls on hold after I call but the volume problem persists until I restart the phone or I receive an incoming call.
I will continue to update this thread as I flash nightly updates daily.
Thanks for your help
Problem persists
I installed version 11-20140116-NIGHTLY-p880. Problem persists.

I have a workaround for this. When you start feeling that the volume is low, I first press the vol down button few times and then press the vol up button multiple times till I hear the voice properly.
Let me know if it works for you. But definitely this is a problem for all of us.
Hi and thanks for the reply. Tried to do what you described but it didn't work for me. Maybe I am doing something wrong. When the problem appears its even before the other person picks up so I can hear the ringing tone at a really low volume. I tried turning the volume down a bit and then turning it all the way up like you said but no luck...
I am now downloading the latest cm11 nightly, I hope this will be fixed soon.

Just installed 11-20140118-NIGHTLY-p880. In call volume problem is still there.

Installed 11-20140120-NIGHTLY-p880. Problem is still there. The only workaround that works for me so far is calling myself. After the busy message I get, in call volume is fine again for two - three calls. Then the same thing happens all over again.
Flashed cm-11-20140121-NIGHTLY-p880. Problem still there.
Any workarounds anyone?
Flashed cm-11-20140122-NIGHTLY-p880. There is improvement worth mentioning. As soon as the new rom booted up I went to check the in call volume with outgoing calls. The third continuous call I made had really low in call volume so I was immediately disappointed. Then I made another call and in call volume was back to normal, something that would not happen in previous roms. Then I made another 5 calls and on the 6th the volume was low again. Since then though every call I've made has normal in call volume (one day / 20 calls).
This was a huge improvement. Will flash cm-11-20140123-NIGHTLY-p880 and see how it goes.
Flashed cm-11-20140123-NIGHTLY-p880 and then cm-11-20140124-NIGHTLY-p880. With the latter I've made numerous outgoing calls and I've only had low in call volume once. I'd say the cm developers have found whats wring and are slowly fixing it.

I've tried a workaround using sony xloud. It is known to increase in call volume.Works fine so far, pretty sure it increased mine.It also has clear audio, which is supposed to reduce noise when volume is too loud. (tested on latest nightly)
Make sure you thank the OP in this thread.I could never download that ZIP via pimpmyrom app, guess the servers are down.
Also make sure you thank this member for creating the flashable zip & wonderful app
Installation instructions :
Flash the zip via recovery, wipe dalvik cache and reboot.
Thank you for your reply. The latest rom I've flashed is cm-11-20140215-NIGHTLY and it works fine. There have not been any occurrences where in call volume was low, with or without Bluetooth..
Thank you all for your help, I consider this problem solved for the p880.

The problem is not solved. It is back with vengeance since the beginning of July. I have not gone back to a June build to check if it works.
Any workarounds please.

Try this: During a call, turn the volume down one click and then back up.
