Does anyone have iGO 8 with Text to Speech enabled? Does your copy run well?
I have it working, but it is SLLLOOOWWW. The UI lurches, and the voice is choppy. It is acting like the Kaiser does not have enough resources to run it properly (which may be the case). If anyone has it working well, let me know what you did to get it working well (like your SYS.TXT settings, or other).
Thanks!
iGO8 problems
I am running iGO 8.0.0.49545 flawlessly on my Tilt with HPIII M2D December
3rd ROM. I recooked the ROM, but nothing that would effect the GPS. I am running the same radio as you too. IM me if you need anything such as files.
iGO 8.0 with normal voices was always stable for me, but with Text to Speech voices it seemed to crash a LOT more.
I'm trying iGO 8.2 right now, but I can't even get TTS to work on it at all.. Plus some bugs with POI icons... I think I'll be going back.
Bump? Anyone get this working reasonably?
I am also running iGO 8.0.0.49545 flawlessly on my Tilt with HPIII M2D December. Ran with L26 Diamond B6 as well. Here is what I found:
After first installing IGO8, it would go through my contacts (I have 400+) and try to geocache the addresses or something like that. While this was happening, it was mad slow, very choppy. Just let it run for as long as it takes to pop up a 'warning' like 'geocaching complete, failed to import x of y, do you want to see errors?'
It might not be called geocaching, but it is something very similar.
I can't guarantee that is the issue, but it worked for me.
I have the iGO8 running pretty good on my Kaiser, the only problem is that the voice seems to be small, at least smaller than what I saw on Garmin XT or Tomtom 7. Does anyone have any suggestion about this?

I tested TTS on OCN8 (aka iGO8) for PocketPCThoughts just a few months ago. Yes, it was very slow and frequently got itself very screwed up on directions -- correcting itself halfway through, dropping the remainder of a direction, etc.
I eventually just removed it. The 2.1 voices are much smoother.

Exactly the problem I'm having. I wish TomTom would support Navigator 7 for Kaiser.
I just installed the non-TTS voices personally. Although since I updated to 8.3, iGO8 takes about twice as long to startup now. Not sure why.

erm, sorry, I meant 8.3.
IGO 8 ??
and is there any links where we can download the IGO 8 ??
can someone share this
.PM if to sensitive
I am using Igo 8.3 and have been using 8.0 before.
I have stability issues with both versions (freeze/lockup/reboot) that i cannot seem to solve.
Using Dutty's Diamond rom and 1.65.16.25 radio.
Hard reset and only igo installed still has the same problems.
Anyone know what could cause the problem?

just wondering if some of you that upgraded from a trinity to a Kaiser are happy with it.. Was thinking about getting one.. have been trying an iphone, but the lack of good pda features is killing me..
so i've been looking at getting a kaiser, but without a lot of nice cooked roms out yet and stuff, i was just wondering what you guys thought about it.

I will take the Kaiser anytime over the trinity, save the bug of the bulk updates on the GPS system.
Just using the stock ROM and add on the softwares that I need, and its great.
The response is faster than the trinity.
The GPS system is definitely a lot faster. Can get fix almost immediate.
Not sure about the peeling off issue will happen to Kaiser. Just got mine for few days.

Hello my friend, I have changed to HTC Tytn II, and man what a big change, loving the new one and not even missing the trinity a bit, the Kaiser is for sure a keeper, its a show piece, high quality material finish, no peeling issues, keyboard with a lovely tilt, GPS is outstanding; by the time you start the nav app your gps is fixed , and not forgetting the big space in both ram and rom, I do recommend the Kaiser to everybody, and would always look forward to see a Kasierguides.info by racerx_
Yep - I was a Trinity owner and for me , I got really frustrated at not having a proper keyboard - solved with the Kaiser!!!
Plus it has a lot more memory available, especially with a cooked ROM..
Cheers
John
I also upgraded my Trinity to Kaiser, and I fully agree with taiseer999.
He forgot to mention the Trinity MiniSD issue with disappearing files and stuff. the Kaiser dont have this issue at all.
The down side for me in compare to the Trinity is the size and the weight, and also the BT Headset sound. but other than that, all perfect for me.
helllo....
i'm using trinity before i get brand new htc tytn II.For me,htc tytn II is better than trinity in all department.Because of that i sold my trinity.
For Iphone i had too for a week, but i cant compare those two devices because there build for different purpose and differrent os,but the two of devices is good.....
cheers
Kaiser feel very solid when compared to trinity. But the weight difference is quite big. But love every moment with it. GPS connection is definitely faster. Haven't tried cook rom yet since the ROM/RAM size is double of trinity.
Keyboard is good but with new software keyboard like touchpal. Hardware keyboard is no longer a necessity.
thanks everybody for the feedback.. very helpful. Sounds like no one's looking back...

the GPS stream does not come in smoothly like the trinity, but instead, it comes in bursts every 8 seconds or so.
The updates on voice navigation is therefore somewhat delayed at times.
Sometimes, it can tell me to exit at the intersection ahead, where I have already passed it.
This is with the bundled R12 Mapking (for asia), and Mapking 2007 (retail).

For MapKing 2007, you can use GPSproxy + Mapking to improve the refresh rate.

you see, using the R12 that comes with Kaiser in the Trinity, there is absolutely no problems at all.
Using the same version of MK2007 on Trinity, there is no problems at all as well.
From what I can comprehend, its the GPS multiplexing software that is causing the problem in the Kaiser.
The R12 fix you are talking about most probably reroutes the signal by bypassing the multiplexer, directly to the GPS COM port.
This way, if you have 2 GPS softwares running at the same time, the 2nd software cannot work. e.g. R12, and GPS photo.
But anyway, since HTC has acknowledged that its a bug, I guess its good to let all know.
sorry this is still confusing me. Is there a problem with gps bursts or not? I thought you said there was, now saying there's not??

the GPS signal/stream comes in bursts every 7-8 seconds, unlike in trinity, where its updated frequently.
Since you are using MK2007, you should see that the GPS stream is updated smoothly in it.
what this cause is that your location is updated whenever the burst comes in.
So if you are driving, and it tell yous to "exit at the intersection ahead", you may have already passed it.
I used the EXACT same copy of MK2007 on both trinity and Kaiser.
Trinity ok, Kaiser NG (bursts)
Using the EXACT same copy of MKR12 from Kaiser on trinity, its ok, but when you install it on Kaiser, you get the bursts... and you need to use the updated version on the Kaiser to workaround this issue.
Matrix:
------------MK2007-------MKR12------
Kaiser -------NG------------NG-------|
Trinity-------OK------------OK-------|
So to me, its a problem, and HTC acknowledged that its a bug.
Well I'm using Tomtom 6, l'm not a big fan of it, the maps are quite bland and boring.
What are other GPS softwares that have decent maps that work with the touch diamond? I'm quite pissed Igo8 has issues..
I am using CoPilot 7, I got it with my Orbit 2 a while ago, Its ok, easy to use, POI Searches can be a bit annoying but and the routing isn't as good as the tom tom I don't think but it still gets you from A-B.

I have to say it's the same for me. It's actually funny because I have Garmin XT on the Diamond and I have Garmin in my car and both use the same map file so it's a bit overkill. Only used GPS once since I got the phone and that was to try it out of curiousity
Co Pilot 7, got with my Orbit 2. Quite happy with it, but would have preferred TomTom
Turning on Internal GPS
I installed the Garmin Xt on the the Diamond but it keeps searching for a Blue Tooth GPS. Is there some settings I need to do to get it to recognise the internal GPS and Vice versa. Thanks in advance
Destinator 7, I tried TomTom and hated it!
Im using TomTom 6 now. I have a TomTom Go 920 as well.
Never used Destinator 7 or Garmin XT - are these good? better than TomTom? Worthwhile checking out?
I released TomTom allows you to "Navigate to" and you can choose a contacts address - handy since I have addresses for most my contacts - it would take ages to store them into favourites.
using GMXT and MapkingR12...
for me maps for GMXT is more complete and updated than the one in Mapking..

Also using TomTom 6. Received my Diamond yesterday, I came from a Kaiser device.
But the screen draw is very very slow comparing to the Kaiser. Perhaps because of the VGA screen, don't know.
Also the directions and pointer are runnig about a second slower than the Kaiser (it's running 10 mtr behind my car).
Hopefully there will be a TomTom 7 and hopefully that will run smoother, I'm a very big fan of TomTom.
Friend of mine has a VGA HP PDA with Tomtom 6. Screen redraws are terribly slow. I have same version of Tomtom on my Prophet (QVGA) and it runs very smoothly. Think its down to the number of pixels.
I'm using Navigon 6.2 with europe map.
I always used to install and use iGo, but iGo 2006 and iGo 8 don't work with the Diamond

You need to config settings in Garmin. to cable GPS, and then point to correct COM (in my case COM4)
Just got my diamond and I can't seem to get tomtom6 in landscape mode. The tiltfunction doesn't work in the todayscreen or tomtom itself so I guess I'll have to find a rotate cab or get used to the standard mode.
Using Sygic McGuider.
Very impressed by it, good for TomTom users, nice screen on diamond, works like a charm and newer maps !!
Destinator
How do you guys get Garmin XT onto your device? Is it possible to copy the files from the SD card onto the phone?

Just wondering if anyone's TomTom 6 or 7 is as slow as the one as this video I made or is yours running smoothly. Would have though TomTom would have ran much better than this due the the GPU acceleration
Even though it's a VGA screen my Tytn 2 was running this much, much faster, not far off silky smooth . The TomTom in the video is v7 VGA running the latest v7.20 maps (tested also with TomTom 6 QVGA running v6 maps and was just as slow).
Am posting this as reading some posts here and people are saying my TomTom is running smoothly, mines running perfectly, no lag etc.
Look forward to your feedback

Yep, mine is as ****ty as yours. That is the reason I liked Tomtom is it's smooth movement..... not on the Diamond though, might as well run a slideshow, could possibly be faster.
hi radeon, it seems that i have the same problem as you.
till now i'm thinking it's because of the gps refresh rate, but i'm not really sure
because this should offend all diamond users...
but for me the major problem of using any gps software at the moment is the
enormous lag at low speeds. when i'm in a traffic jam the position updates approx.
only every 100m, and the actual speed is also very slow in changing it's values (i'm
standing still and the tachymetre shows still ~10km/h for a few seconds...
i guess this is because the static navigation of the chipset.

Hi
I had the same problem on my first tomtom, you display too much POIs, try to disable a lot of POI and retest.
POI's Rubbish
It has nothing to do with the number of POI's. I have run the exact same version of TTN and the exact same map on a Treo 750 with ALL POI's activated and it was as smooth as my Tomtom GO720.
I just find it hard to beleive that my old Palm ran faster??????
Dont know why but it isnt POI's.

Would love to see this to
Just as a test, I removed all my POI's and voices from the map folder and ran TomTom with as little on screen as possible, also disabled all street names etc, did a demo run and it ran at exactly the same speed as that video.
I'm running the TLR 1.37.405.1 rom at the moment, so hopefully this maybe a rom issue because the GPU is doing bugger all to help run TomTom, seems the CPU is doing everything, and being a VGA screen that's why it's a lot slower than my old Tytn 2 which the CPU did everything there to.
This is the only issue I have with the Diamond and it's an annoying one

I would give you a link but im sure the xda guys would class it as warez!
I have a uk diamond that didnt come with tomtom7 but i have a license for tomtom so i found the optimized version for the diamond.
does garmin lag on anyone elses tilt or is mine just messed up. by lag i mean its very choppy. it updates itself like every two seconds. annoying like crazy. i love the interface and the maps look better than tomtom, but i just cant seem to get used to the choppyness. i'ved tried changing setting and all the tools it comes with but can't seem to change this. does anyone else have this problem?
My works great with Garmin Mobile XT on the micro-sd it came with.
I forget, but I think there is a setting to be sure the micro-sd card is not powered down on the Tilt? i could be totally off-base on that though... but worth a look!
yeah, its in the kaiser tweak software. i tried it both ways and its still hella slow...
no problem
Mine works perfect.
When I tried it I had a very slow interface as well. It was always like a half of block away from any intersection and was slow on turns.
I moved to iGo and love it. Better (imo) interface than both TT and Garmin XT

care to ellaborate? how about what rom you are using ? or what version of garmin mobile xt ?
I used garmin mobile on L26 Diamond rom v9 and it lagged so bad. It would be off by almost half a block on city streets. On highways it would pause for about 10 seconds at a time is some instances. I really like garmin with all the features it has and I am still keeping it on my phone just for traffic detours. But if there is a way to get it so it didnt lag and ran at least as smooth as tomtom that would be great.
TomTom is a very competent nav program , but I have opted to go with iGO8 as it is much smoother , it features TTS and the interface has more functiions, although i read that the maps have errors in them , I have yet to experience it.

How do you get TTS to work on igo? I have igo june 3rd release.. but no TTS..
I have all 3 and I like igo the most...
TomTom - easiest to use... maps kinda outdated.. picks funky routes and the eta time is way off
Garmin XT - poi are out of date... better then tomtom as far as eta... about the same at picking routes... i wish i could customize the display more... cant change schemes or "skin"
iGo - nicest looking.. poi is better then garmin.. picks better routes.. eta time is better... no traffic it even shows buildings which is cool... it uses skins, backgrounds and map colors... highly customizable

I tried it and its acting flaky... at first it didnt work... then it started using the number instead of the name for a road.. for instance the road name was old apex road and it was also state road 1022... it would say turn on to 1022..
after that it stated working correctly... saying the road names...
now today it dosent say anything... just beeps when a turn is coming up... all this without me changing anything... just turning the program on and off... havnt installed any other software...

Hi,
I have a new Touch Diamond2, lovely device! (previously had TYTN, TYTN II and Touch Pro).
Anyways, i bought CoPilot 7 for Touch Diamond. Eventually got it installed but i couldnt get past the Tips and Tricks startup screen since the buttons were 'off screen' because of the new resolution of the Diamond2. Also, a lot of icons and buttons missing when i finally got it going, so i guess CoPilot 7 for Touch Diamond is not quite compatible with Diamond2! (there seems to be a CoPilot7 Live HD version comming soon, maybe that will be of help).
Also tried my old reliable TomTom6, that didnt work, kept crashing the phone on initial installation startup.
TomTom7 didnt fare much better, the .cab i used resulted in a 'This software is not intended for this device', or words to that effect.
Has anyone got any GPS software (preferably legit versions) working properly on the Diamond2?
Also, if anyone got the TomTom7 working, which cab version did they use? Hopefully i can use my old TomTom6 maps with it.
Thanks

Hi,
Good to see someone got CoPilot working. May try and get a refund on the Touch Diamond version and get the 'normal' one which you have. Better still, if the supplier has this HD version, that would be the best for TD2.
My phone came with Route66 included and it works just fine.

Thanks for all your advice and opinions on what software works with the Diamond2, good thing about the thread is that others new to the phone can benefit from this too

I have also no GPS signal with my Touch Diamond 2. But I don't have TomTom, IGo or something else. I just want to get the GPS signal to use in QuickGPS. But there is no signal at all. Does anyone know why?
And where can I configure the internal GPS antenna? Is that possible?
For testing I downloaded and installed odgps (outdoor gps), but it get's also no signal. In odgps I have configured COM4 with Baudrate 9600. But no signal. Does anyone know how I have to configure GPS programs to get them work (as said, I cannot find a screen to get or set the configuration of the internal GPS antenna).
Could a hard reset help (as for the old Touch Diamond)? I would like to avoid that due to the destruction of the data...
Thanks in advance for your help and best regards,
B.
Garmin's GMXT runs well on the TD2. Only problem noted so far is that the GPS signal strength (green vertical bars) does not work - even after a sat lock is achieved.

Is there an alternative to GMXT?? I find it runs too slow for my liking (when I do browse map) I'd rather something like google maps style but can use offline. Tried using tracky but couldn't figure out how the hell to use it.

I have iGo 8.3 working on my Diamond 2 but I'm *really* unhappy about navigation speed. I thought, at first, that it was slow because of the screen size and resolution, but doing a preview on a route shows it can animate the screen more than quick enough.
Screen refresh only seems slow during live GPS navigation which leads me to think that it's this "GPS lag" that I've something only a little about.
Can anyone fill me in on it? Does it affect the Diamond 2? Are there any remedies or are some apps more affected by it?
I love my Diamond 2 but this is letting it down somewhat...
Google maps worked fine for me as well.
viaGPS 3.0 black edition works as well...
