Cooked ROM's... Recooked - Touch HD Windows Mobile ROM Development

thanks alot

OK. I am going to finish this once and for all.
The chef's that wan't to share their work are more than welcome to do so. The chef's that don't have that right.
How many of you have gone to a restaurant/cafe and enjoyed your meal? At that time did you ask the chef for his recipe? Did you take out an add in the local newspaper asking why he didn't just walk out to your table while you were eating and hand you his recipe without you asking for it? No, you did not. You enjoyed the meal, paid your bill and went home.
Same thing here. If the chef wants to share his recipe, then fine. If he doesn't, that's fine also. Imagine how many cafe's would be out of business if they gave out all of their recipes to every single customer that walked in. Asking for packages is one thing, but asking for the entire meal is completely different.
Suffice it to say, this is how it is. Plain and simple. No more and no less. As far as I am concerned this debate is over. One more complaint, and I will close this down forever and hand out some bans.
Feel free to discuss which roms are not protected, but under no circumstance shall there be one negative statement about a rom thats not and the chef that cooked it. If so, bans will be handed out and the thread locked.
End of discussion.

opinions!
Well,
I don't know if my ROM is protected or unprotected....so i had made public the complete kitchen with all files. Just download it, press c and b - and you can recook it!
please feel free...this is my opinion. Sooner or later, I will profit from your work. I do respect other opinions, since they contain some truth. But diversity is at the basis of this forum, isn't it?

you have incorrectly pasted the name of the pzucchel ROM and the link is broken!! why personal?

I've stumbled upon this discussion and i'd like to comment on P1tater's post.
I can't see why you'd compare this rom cooking with actual cooking a real chef does. All that's the same is the name "chef" and the term "cooking" and that's that. I'm sorry if I offend by any way (which is not intended), but it's simply not the same thing.
Let me explain my thoughts on the subject. I'm sure no one wants to let their hard work and time spent to their product get ripped off by someone who in turn can make a profit from it. But if no one would open their kitchen to others, we'd not be where XDA is now.
That's my view on things.

Frankly speaking, P1tater, i disagree with this approach. If the opinions are not offensive, nobody should be banned because they think differently from you on this topic.
Even negative statements about a rom, if constructive, should be welcome and could improve our toys. I profited more from the negative comments than from the positive ones that didn't contain any effort in evaluating the rom.
I agree that, at the end, the only thing that matters is the individual contribution: donations, ideas, work, support, constructive criticisms.

I'm too busy lately to test it yet, but as metioned earlier it may not work on all protected roms dependant on the type of protection applied.

As far as I know most (all?) Blackstone roms are protected by an application called "all_packages_to_one.exe".
If the deprotector doesn't work on that protection it is quite useless (at least for the blackstone).

Have you used one of these codes in the CMD window after putting the application in the same folder where os.nb OR os.nb.payload?
rom_deprotector os.nb

Click to collapse
OR
rom_deprotector os.nb.payload

I have tried both of them (first of all I have extracted the OS.nb as well as the payload).
After executing the command the filesize of the target file went down to 0, and went then up to its "normal" value again. The modification time was changed, so the tool has done something, at least rewritten the file.
But after trying to extract it again, I have the same weird structure as before .

I'm proud to announce that I have finally released my own new roms, Slim 1.1 + Barebone 1.1. Of course it is unprotected, so you are invited to take it as a base for own roms/experiments.

first download the ext-rom maker kit from here;

A great deal of time and patience was needed to put this together, from me, so please drop by the forum to say thanks if nothing else.
I know some of you would like to be able to extract you own extended rom base from your roms, this is easyest way that I could come up with for everyone specially the novices, plus that is another tutorial.
please post your coments/problems here for the benefit of every one

Sweet! I'll be checkin' this out once I get home to my computer, baking in 100 degree weather at the moment - dare not turn it on during this damned heat wave. My AC is leaving the fridge open and sitting on the bottom ledge =).

Hi! Well, I didn't even use your tutorial (yet), but still I just wanted to say thanks for your work. All the work from everyone that is contributing useful stuff should be rewarded once in a while, if only by a simple "thanks!" <-- so there you go
Oh and good luck tomorrow with the soccer match Portugal - The Netherlands!
Greetz,
Jeroen (Proudly Dutch, hehe)
P.S. Now that I come to read the PDF, isn't the location for the ext rom (as noted in step 4 in your tutorial) '\Extended_Rom', that is, with an underscore ('_') and not a hyphen ('-')? I am pretty sure it is spelled with an underscore.

u are correct there is a missplelling .it has been corrected, thanks for pointing that out.and good luck to.
to everyone that downloade the tutorial before 9:30 uk on june 24
please redownload the tutorial ,there was a missplelling on it.even doo its not critical ,it is just to avoid confusion.

thanks faria for the pm, I'll redownload when I get back to the computer.
I hardly ever carry a laptop pc since I've gotten the 8125.
I managed to download, unzip and displaý it, but pdf files don't wrap text, so it's too hard to read the file. I can wait until I get to a PC, but if you could post it in (pocket) Word, I would br sooo happy.
It's ok if you can't, I'm still your biggest fan -- all these other guys are your second-biggest fans
Only your biggest fan would type all his fanmail out on his Wizard. My thumbs sure are tired!
Thanks, I got it this time
I hope to start building my won Ext Rom shortly
Great stuff (again) Faria.
Gonna check in a few minutes of I am able to cook my own ext-rom.
Will let you know the results afterwards!

Molski
Hi Faria,
Works like a charm. I am able to load the CABs to the extended ROM. Now, waiting for the other portion of your tutorial... how to disable the "User Input" when installing the CAB files...

Thanks a lot. Rgds
I'm sure I'm having a senior blond moment, please bear with me! The PDA Mobiz rom has some really cewl cabs I'd like to copy out but I don't see the extended-rom from TC ??? I used your supplied TC cab and typed \extended-rom .. nothing...

Wouldn't the cookers need some sort of license from Microsoft to have any kind of copyright on their roms?
As far as I know rom cooking is tolerated by Microsoft but not legal by law...
They could be sued for publishing their work. But MS knows they need them
Yeah, it's exclusive.
I would really want to mirror hit, but by respect, I let htcpedia have the exclusivity on it.
Of course, if I do that, I suppose, chief will be hangry and could remove my access. For what ? well, I prefer respect is wish.
I hope next rom won't be exclusive.

I would say chefs, take this opportunity, because the server offered here is really freaking fast! Soo good, imagine all the users downloading your ROMs quicker then they can say Flash!

[REQ] NRGZ28 Donation Campaign!

Okay, so I just had this crazy idea,
NRGZ mentioned on his twitter once that his ROM's are downloaded over 9000 times every new upload. So I thought by myself that if every single person donated 1 euro/dollar/whatever NRG would get like 9000 €/$!! Which is a lot!!
So here is my idea: if every person here would kindly give a donation of 1 to NRG that would be a great way to thank him for making such great ROM's and updating them so often. And for all of us the costs would be very small. So who is with me?!?! Let's show NRGZ some support!!
I start with this thread since I own an Xperia, but if I get enough responses I will start threads in other phones sections and we can maybe pick a date where we can all donate at once.
P.S I am not a family member/friend or anything of NRG, this is just my idea to show some kindness. I live in the Netherlands and I don't know NRG.
as soon as someone tells me how to flash my phone (exactly how because i dont want to miss it) because I dont understand all tutorials etc. I'll donate
ahah ok then I tell you right now:
First you need to Hard SPL your phone, and then you need to download and unzip a ROM dat you like (NRG! ) then you can flash that rom onto your phone. I would advide you to search for Biovolt's tutorial because he made a video about how to flash. I think you can find it in one of the stickies in the top of this section.

I can't, I don't have PayPal or any donation thingy myself. Well I have a credit card, but I musn't use it from my parents. My parents won't donate anything either because if they know I'm flashing my X1, they get mad as hell.
Ok well good luck!
I find that a lot of people warn you about flashing and stuff but once you've done it it is really easy. Hard SPL is something that allows you to flash a custom ROM on your phone. You only have to do this once!

There are a lot more chefs, it seems as if NRG is the only good chef around here. There are very talented people who don't get rewarded at all.
I never said that he was the only good chef around here...
I just happen to really like his Rom's. And I wanted to show him appreciation for his hard work. He updates his ROM's very often for a lot of devices. Doing this doesn't say anything about how good the other chef's are.
But if you have a suggestion how we can reward all the Chef's i am interested in hearing it!

He's got a point, there are lots of developers who cook awesome ROM's. Let's say agent_47 or jerpelea. If only NRGZ28 get a donation campaign it's unfair to others. Do it for more people, or do it for nobody.
Ok maybe you guys are right...
But lets say we are going to reward all the chef's, how are we going to do that. Which chef's should be included?? If anyone has some ideas please share them!

You may want to include a short explanation for each ROM category (AOSP, Sense, New Sense, Senseless) as well, because the differences between, say, an AOSP and Senseless ROM are difficult to understand for many newcomers.

I didn't think about it because AFAIK the only D/L link for it is via ROM manager. I'll add it though.

can developer steal a rom from another developer?

just a subj... is it possible the some developer just take a rom which weas made by someone else and announce as his one achivement? (sulerly, some minor ganages could be done in the rom)
how to identify the thief?

It's not really stealing i guess as long as you put out credits of the people who created it, or by asking permission from the developers.

if the "owner" has not been aware about any usage of his rom, is it faire to thread the rom? "credits" are given when a team were worked out the rom, or when you take the result of someone's job and just say "hey, i take it" ?
in my opinion, it is situational and depends on the context.
A =/= B =/= C
But they could share similarities that most people would agree something was done morally wrong. I guess you could share with us the situation then we can give a better opinion?

i just wondering is there a sort of "widly known gentelmen agreement" about such situations. and the second matter is to get an idea how both parties (both developers) can get "a profitable solution" for both (= peace)
In my opinion, the developers community should be honest for it members. And other users have to proud for the achievments of this community. All team's results would be better, than results of each developer. That's why they should be together ^.^
PS sorry for bad english, I hope you understand my meaning

all should be together with all ... sounds impossible
the problem is HOW can others results be used for making app / rom etc?
what is allowed to do and what is forbidden (ethically)?

To work together - allowed, to use with proper credits - allowed. To edit build.prop and post as own rom - not. I think so.

If you suspect something, you can always go and compare files.
Technically you can do whatever you want since android is open source.
Ethically it isbetter to consult with rom owners about using parts of a rom and credit them offcourse

if someone did not done it (consult) before he take a part of rom, what will happen? does it mean that othe other community will declare a boycott against him? or just say "you'd better stop doing it"?
Of course you're all talking about the Rom owners, Google... Right? Or perhaps HTC? I would be very surprised if any Rom posted in our dev thread have asked Linus Torvalds personally if they could post a derivation of his operating system here.
You don't see too many credits to those 3 either...
It's public domain, nobody here has built a Rom entirely from scratch all have borrowed from the community and the source, and if they offer even one piece of code that's new, I say good on them, they are contributing to the community, and the community will take from and build on that too.
But let's cut to the chase, why are you asking the question? You're planning to contribute? Or are you here to point the finger at someone for stealing your creation?

Like everyone has stated, being a open source code and that no one in here is making profit from the roms, (on this site at least i can not speak for the world) it is really a null point of theft everything is free you can not steal something that is owned by the public. As well if you plan on taking something from a rom I would strongly suggest that you ask, and give proper credit were it is due. personally if i worked on a project and someone was using my development with no permission or credit i would publicly humiliate them in anyway possible so that the ass who "stole"
my work would never be able to call it his own again. As well the XDA community is great group of people who if you steal anything from another rom with no permission will find out and ostracize you for your pathetic attempt to pass of someone else's blood sweat and tears as your own.
Nuff said lol
