Hi Folks,
First of all, I'm really sorry for posting a 'diet' question like this, but even though I've owned it for some time, my Kaiser has remained untouched so far and I was just wondering if anyone has any advice on definitive action...
OK I've got the device for three main reasons - 1) To have push mail and web (of sorts) in my pocket, 2) To provide internet connectivity to my laptop when needed, 3) to be a pretty competent Sat Nav device.
This evening I noticed a little complication with point 3 - Up to now I've been using TomTom Navigator 6 and more recently TomTom 7.910 - I thought the performance was pretty decent, at the very least acceptable - I've been using a TomTom Traffic & Cameras subscription. Today I subscribed to the pocketgpsworld safety camera database and set alerts for the 'speed zoned complete' version.
I took my kaiser out on a little drive just now and I was pretty shocked at the amazing performance degredation TomTom is suffering now that it's got to think about a few POIs at the same time - it really was pretty woeful.
I guess I'm not the first person to note this, so I was wondering is there anything that can be done - tweaks or even a replacement ROM that might deliver some more horsepower to TomTom Navigator?
For the record I'm not bothered about the Kaiser doing anything else 'fancy' - if ActiveSync will work with an Exchange server, and Pocket IE (I know it sucks but Opera and Skyfire don't flick my switch either) will give me basic web functionality, my only other concern is TomTom...
Does anyone have any advice? All suggestions are most gratefully received!
Thanks and regards,
Rob.
Speed up TomTom
First: What Rom do you use? If it's the stock one, there's probaly a problem with the driver (custom http://www.htcclassaction.org / Intell Omnia drivers). It's best to flash your Kaiser where the drivers already are in it.
To speed up TomTom and use POI's:
step 1: Hide all POI's.
- change prefences
- Show POI on map
Be sure that NOTHING is on (like in my screenshot)
step 2: Warn near POI's
- Manage POIs
- Warn when near POI
- Be SURE to turn OFF Warn only if POI is on route (otherwise it will not always warn you).
Now it doesn't load all the POI's tot the map constantly and it will run much smoother

Hey.. I had the same problem (with TT 7.4)... I foudn after I added all the POI's, I unchecked almost all but the most needed.. Then from that point on, I can still get direction to ANY of the POI's (checked or unchecked) and it still shows all the ones I want it to when drivign around... and the map lag is now non-existant... Hope this helps..

Hi,
Thanks for your response
At the moment my Kaiser (branded T-Mobile Vario III) is running the stock T-Mobile ROM which it shipped with quite a few (between 6 and 9) months ago.
I've just disabled all 'Show POIs on Map' and left the 'Warn when near POI' enabled for the safety cameras.
I ran a route demo and it seems to be a little improved, probably to a level which is approaching acceptable.
I tried again having disabled HTC Home from the Today screen which seemed to free up a little memory.
I'm curious about your mention of the display drivers - I'd read the class action website some time ago and was aware of display driver issues. I'm interested in your mention of alternatives, but not quite sure I follow what you mean exactly...
Is there an improved driver which I can install on my Kaiser with the current ROM?
And/or, are there 'community' ROMs available which have an improved display driver installed?
Any further help you can offer on those points would be great!
Thanks again,
Rob.
Search, Find, Flash...
You can try the CAB file (download, copy to phone, run it on phone)
Kaiser and Nike drivers: download as seen on
http://www.htcclassaction.org/driverprogress.php (almost at bottom)
BUT also they noticed that almost every rom included the drivers.
Also Intell Drivers work great (ripped from Omnia)
Flashing for beginners with a Kaiser (READ BEFORE YOU BEGIN TO FLASH!):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=433835
All roms: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=378
For much speed I recommend a rom like "AthineOS |NAKED|" maked by b16b
That's the ROM I'm using at the moment and TomTom 7 runs very smooth (that rom has got Omnia driver included)
You're lucky i'm a bit bored, otherwise you'll get a very short answer like:

Thanks very much for the information - I'm going to dump the stock ROM from my Kaiser and hopefully reconstruct it before I go any further (I've been doing a lot of reading about how to do that today); and then I think I'll give the CAB a go.
If that doesn't yield good results I'm going to give the AthineOS ROM a try -I'd been looking at various ROMs available and the AthineOS looked to be the kind of thing I like (I've used Schaps (with a bit of stripping-out) and CRCs ROMs on my Hermes and the AthineOS for Kaiser looks similar in style) - I noted that it's described as very fast (which I like the sound of!), and I saw mention of replaced display drivers in the thread - I just wasn't certain at first which were used, and crucially, whether they would benefit TomTom.
Your recommendation and confirmation of a performance increase in TomTom is exactly the information I'd been looking for, so thank you very much!

I had done quite a bit of searching after your first reply before I asked more questions, but I couldn't quite find conclusive answers to the particular questions I then had. I promise Search and Wiki are always my first ports-of-call before I post questions to the board (I'm admin at a car forum and completely understand frustration when people repeat questions as a result of not checking existing resources!).
Sincere thanks again,
Rob.
PS> I'll update this thread with the results of my actions so that searches by others in future might be useful...
Just a quick update for the record...
On reading the link to the driver progress page on HTCClassAction.org I saw the statement "As far as we know, there is NO 6.0 ROM that is compatible with these drivers." - so I didn't bother attempting to install the driver directly to my current ROM.
I've dumped my T-Mobile stock ROM and made sure I've got the reconstructed OS ROM, a suitable SPL and the boot/splash screens ready should I wish to go back for any reason.
I've just flashed AthineOS (the WM6.1 version not the just-released test WM6.5 version)...
Well, I'm extremely impressed...
The ROM itself is nice and snappy, navigating around menus etc. is very quick indeed...
Now, we come to the all important TomTom performance...
So I've got the pocketgpsworld safety camera database (Speed-Zoned Complete version) running, with 'Warn when near POI' set for each category with 15 seconds warning for fixed and the pgpsw recommened setting for mobile/pmobile cameras...
It's CONSIDERABLY faster - MUCH more fluid in the turns - frame-rate is considerably higher (not measured, just perceived with mark one eyeball) and there's little or no 'visual lag' is evident whatsoever. It's a completely dark and light transformation. I'll be more than happy using it every day now.
It's worth noting that I've still not got any POIs 'shown on map' - this doesn't prevent warnings, or indeed POIs that the application is 'currently' warning about from being shown on the map when required - it simply means that ALL of them aren't on the map at ALL times - so in real terms it makes no difference in the case of safety camera warnings. I did test performance with some categories 'shown on map' and it drops off sharply; but I'm inclined to think that this is more a side effect of mathematical horsepower in the Kaiser being limited (especially when you consider everything else that's running in the background) as opposed to display performance being low.
...In short, I think this software takes about as much advantage of the hardware in the Kaiser as is possible.
I'll join bigchrizzieboy in thoroughly recommending AthineOS if you're a TomTom user...
Thanks again and regards,
A very happy Rob
PS> A donation to b16b for the excellent AthineOS will be on its way in due course...
Well, I've just discovered something else which might prove interesting for anyone wondering about TomTom performance and x,y,z ROM in future...
I've just done a side-by-side comparison of...
My Kaiser running AthineOS and TomTom 7.910 with the pocketgpsworld Speed Zoned Complete safety camera database
and
My Father's TomTom One XL running the most recent NavCore for it (8.014 or something I think), the same safety camera database, the same map and the same warning preferences etc.
...Guess which one delivered better frame/redraw rate?...
That's right (or wrong?)... The Kaiser seems noticably quicker than the dedicated TomTom device! I'm quite shocked!
Regards,
Rob.

Nope, but what you CAN do:
Mapupdates prefences:
Don't know what your settings are, but mine are:
TomTom Home:
Don't know what your already using, but:
You can use it to download free voices, warning sounds, POI's, color schemes.
You can "Pimp your ride":
http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/tomtom-custom-cursors.php
Right mouse button, save as on the "rides" (google tomtom car symbol for more)...
Be sure to save only a couple off cars (about 10), to much will give you an error when trying to change your car symbol.
Save the file's into "Storage Card\ART\CARS\"
- ON YOUR PDA in TomTom: Change prefences, change car symbol
Free Voices thanks to google
Search on google for TomTom voices (some people maked their own) and copy them to "Storage Card\VOICES\"
When chaning voice, TomTom will ask if it must only use voices from your language, answer with NO.
If you've got filenames with the same number just rename them (you don't need to overwrite). examplefiles needed for a voices:
- DATA114.BMP (not needed, you can create it)
- DATA114.CHK
- DATA114.TLV
- DATA114.VIF
POI's made by other people
http://www.poiedit.com/
A site with a free program with many POI's, you need to subscribe some sites first.
Make own POI's pictures
Where your map is placed on your device "Storage Card\MAP NAME\"
Are files like:
- Burger King Sub, The Netherlands.ov2
- Burger King Sub, The Netherlands.bmp
You can simply edit or create BMP files, just give them the same name as the ov2 file.
Enjoy your speedy customized TomTom

- added the long-awaited option to lock/dismount card only when USB cable is actually attached (so when you will disconnect the device, it will automatically see the card again, without the need to deactivate WM5torage).
- added the troubleshooting options for different firmwares/devices (should be tweaked only if WM5torage does not work properly)
- GUI is slightly modified according to Microsoft guidelines for better support of landscape and small-screen devices

Yes, CAB will ask you to uninstall previous version before installing the newer one. Can anyone confirm that it works on Kaiser?
Just installed buth it never ask to uninstall the 1.75 version. After install the new version i must soft reset and i have a new icon for WM5 Storage, crazy thing is that it's also the old 1.75 version
Great finding thanks...

I haven't tried the smaller cards but it is not working with the 6GB sdhc card that I use. I usually use the USB reader that I got when I bought the card for my computer to read/write the files. So, I'm not sure if the bigger cards will work with this version.
Thanks Taiseer999 - great find indeed!

Confirmed. Not working on my tilt w/6mb sandisk card (Dutty's touchflo w/3.5). All I see is a blank 'removable drive' in Windows explorer.
Not working on my TyTN II too... Grrr I have uninstall Wm5 1.75 + card export and it didn't works!

Probably because like many other app's on here developed by our guys they will work on a nice clean installation. Many people have tons of other cabs installed and/or removed also and the combination of all these tweaks n' hacks cause many different problems.
People have to realise (and there should be a disclaimer on the forum somewhere) that this is a developement forum! The average sw you find on here is for enthusiastic advancement, not a fully fledged and polished piece of commercial sw that has a guarantee to work.
Expect the unexpected and help the developer, don't flame them!
Works great on TyTN with 6GB SDHC
At first it gave me a "Unknown Device" on Windows-XP
-> menu ->troubleshooting -> Disable RNDIS on Active
Problem fixed ;-)
Then it gave me CRC-errors while copying
-> menu ->troubleshooting -> Disable concurrency
Problem fixed ;-)
Now it works, not only on my desktop-pc but also on my mediaplayer (external USB drive with TV-connection).

That's not a flame and it doesn't have anything to do "helping the developer." It's a legitimate question for taiseer999, who, as far as i know, is not Igor V. Bozhko (the WM5torage developer).
So far, no one in this thread has reported it working on a Kaiser (xdaradar is using a Hermes apparently), and yet taiseer999 is claiming Good News...supports Kaiser? I just tried for the past half hour with every combination of WM5torage settings, including the ones xdaradar lists, can't get it to work.
Where's the basis for your claim, taiseer999? Did you get it to work on your Kaiser? What Kaiser ROM? Dutty's TouchFlo like your sig states? What desktop OS? What settings in WM5torage?

What's likely happened is that the developer tested the program on a stock Tytn II ROM and it worked and taiseer999 was just passing on the message. No need to shoot the messenger.
Now as for why it's not working on the latest cooked Kaiser ROM's I think Farsquidge is correct in thinking it's some tweak interfering with the WM6 mass storage driver. In fact, some research into this might shed some light on why WMStorage 1.75 and 1.78 weren't working with the Kaiser, even in the stock ROMs. The previous solution was a kludge using a component of a commercial program -- which is hardly ideal from both a technical and a legal standpoint.
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOU INPUTS (-'S) & (+'S) THE APPLICATION WORKS

Yes, I read the prior post. His subject is "Works great on TyTN with 6GB SDHC" and his signature says "Happy user of Shamanix`s Grass v1.1 - Based on Schaps 4.00 ROM with Radio 1.54.07.00 on my HTC tytn". TyTN = Hermes. That's why I specifically said "no one in this thread has reported it working on a Kaiser".
If you want a more constructive report, I installed WM5torage on Helmi's 0.7.0 Dynamic. No previous version installed. I plug in my Kaiser, activate WM5torage, Windows XP device manager sees my phone as a WM5torage device, but XP's Disk Management can't see it and thus it never gets assigned a drive letter. Furthermore, as I stated, I also tried all the troubleshooting options, concurrency disabled, RDNIS disabled, both disabled, and both enabled. I unchecked removable and repeated the troubleshooting settings. I tried read-only and repeated. As I said, I tried every possible combination for half an hour, and "It dont work". I didn't know I had to repeat all the mundane details when it's the exact same problem as the previous versions.
Next time don't go throwing around the F word (flame) and ranting about development and commercial software when all emariu wanted was confirmation of whether or not taiseer999's claim is true. Frankly, that's all I wanted, too.

I was at MoDaCo before I posted and didn't see anything specifically stating that it works on the Kaiser. For taiseer999 to make such a bold claim that many Kaiser owners are anxiously waiting to hear, he better have something to back it up.
So taiseer999...can you elaborate? Are you just a messenger or are you actually getting it to work? If so, I'll ask again...What's your setup? What ROM? What Windows OS? What WM5torage settings?
Ahhh...I see the settings in your first post. Still doesn't work for me. And yes, I already have "Advanced Network Functionality" off.

I did not " make such a bold claim that many Kaiser owners" before checking it out myself pal, and I have been switching between Dutty's and Schap's and it works on both.
Well.. I was looking at that video on youtube with TomTom on Kaiser.. and thinking - dman, no way it's that slow. So I made my own video, and, honestly, it's as smooth as you want it to be, but judge by yourselves:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=DHlk2pNIXhY
And here's the video comparison on iGo MyWay 2006 Plus navigation running same routes, at the same time, same config, on Wizard and Kaiser:
Wizard (left): WM5 stock ROM, no running apps. GPS disabled.
Kaiser (right): Dutty's v3 ROM, no running apps (aside from lots of stuff on today screen). GPS disabled.
Here's the vid (difference can really be seen towards the end of video):

As you say, seems quite smooth. Makes me wonder if we need to find a standard set of tests and start some co-ordinated testing.
Just out of interest, can you do the same thing playing back a small video (in TCMP or something). My old Hermes could play videos, but I have trouble getting my Kaiser to and I currently have only one device so can't exactly do side-by-side comparisons unless I speak to a friend... sounds like a plan...
It's a lot smoother because of the fact that you are running it at 200%...
redo the video at 100% instead

Just tried it at 100% - absolutely zero difference for me, maybe even a bit smoother. You can take my word on it.
Hey Dark, is that TomTom cutting out on you in the video when it says "In a quarter mile..." or is that how it actually works? I was thinking of purchasing TomTom 6 and running it on the Tilt, but if it doesn't tell me to turn left until I'm on the corner, that's a bit troubling.

I didn't notice any autio cut-outs when using TomTom.. Although I use iGo pretty much all the time instead. It might be the voice setup, you know how it is... "in quarter mile..." "turn." "left."
I'd suggest before you buy TomTom try out iGo MyWay Plus 2006.. imho, it's better. The only drawback is that it doesn't get traffic from the web (only TMC antenna.. but u have to pay for TT traffic anyway if u're not in US).
iGo's interface is SOOOO much better.. besides, their maps are great.. California map has over 2 mil POIs and constantly updated.

That may be normal operation. I've never used TomTom so I have no idea. Which I guess is why I asked. It just seemed like it should have said "in a quarter mile, turn left" and then "turn left" once you got to the corner.
I've read a lot on here about the voice cut out issue and wondered if that was an example of it or not. Apprently it isn't. Thanks for the answer.

Tomtom 6 on my Kaiser says: "Turn left in, 300 meters" then "Turn left" just before I reach the turn. Haven't had any cut out problems after several days of use.
I just ran mine in demo mode at 200% and it's no way as smooth as yours. I wonder what the difference is? Do you have any of your own POI's added? Any other mods?

I dunno what to say..
I have Dutty's V3 ROM.. lots of crap installed, actually, like PointUI, S2U2..
No POIs, its a new install of TomTom with their free basic map of my city. What else.. I closed all running programs before I started TomTom.. oh, and TomTom and the map are both on phone's memory, not on SD card.

It may be because you have the basic map.
I have full TomTom USA maps, I have installed to SD card, I'm running Dutty's V3, and it's not as snappy as yours.
Hm.. maybe it does help to install GPS apps to storage instead of card because the card interface seems to be slow, but it's not possible to move the huge maps to storage.
True, that might have an effect, although I doubt it'd be that much..
Whatever the case, video was made to look at actual operation performance.. not at how fast my SD card is hehe..
My tomtom 6 runs just as smooth on my tytyn 2 with maps of western europe and the full USA map, what really causes tomtom to lag even on the stand alone ones is enabling lots of POI's that display permanently on the map. I use lots of POI's but I only use them to warn me if I am near one or just navigate manually to one.
Just go into the main menu, change preferences, enable POI's and disable all of them, tomtom should then run as smoothly as the video
Edit - My tomtom 6 is currently installed on the main memory and all maps on the storage card, did once put tomtom and maps on the storage card and made no difference to speed.
Forgot to mention my phone is the Orange UK Tytn 2 running all stock ROM.

I think some sort of testing is in order, especial if legal action is planned, because you really should cover off this point. I find it curious that some people have extremely slow devices, whereas others seem fine. This does not suggest a driver issue, more some sort of conflict? AND YES I know that proper drivers would perform better, but its curious how all devices aren't the same and it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the customised features. Or does it?

Yep, definitely having lots of POIs on the map would slow it down.. Thanks for your feedback regarding having TT on SD card vs Storage and having full maps. I didn't think it'd make much of a difference.
I have no idea why some of youtube's videos show TT running on Kaiser so slow. It's very smooth.

Unless I am misreading it - this proves the device outperforms the QTEk 9100 except for the fps rate?
It seems to outperform the 9100 on all counts! Unless a higher number on the fill rate is bad? I would really be interested in seeing one of the posters who say their device only barely crawls along doing this test and their results.
Pretty much same results, even a bit higher..
Test seemed very smooth, fps was very good as far as I can tell.

I used thaihugo ROM as base for this. Thanks to thaihugo for providing this.
I added GoogleMaps, YouTubePlay, VicSoft Clear Temp, Adobe Reader LE for Diamond. Replaced current USBTool with modaco ShiftPack.Liberate. This fixes the Registry setting needed to install cabs. The only registry setting you need to do is changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\KEYBD\CurLang value to your keyboard. You can find those values in plirom 2.00 thread.
I have also placed links to USBTool under Programs\Comm (thaihugo ROM has here) and also under SnapVue Settings (ShiftPack.Liberate does this). Here in SnapVue Settings you will see a link to SoftReset too. This is exactly what Shift.Liberate does currently whenever you liberate using modaco's procedure.
Memory:
Free Storage: 28.58 MB
Free Program: 21.21 MB
Here is the link to download RUU_Signed.nbh
Use CustomRUU.exe that is available in thaihugo and plirom threads.
The next upgrades to this ROM are HTC Voice Recorder, once I figure out how to enable the microphone, .NET 3.5, Screen Capture, and HTC official YouTube Player replacing YouTubePlay. I am also planing to remove original calculator with 1-Calc.
Disclaimer: This is a cooked ROM and is supported by neither Microsoft nor HTC. Neither I nor the ones from who I learned how to cook should be held responsible for any malfunctions or irreversible damage that may cause by flashing this ROM to the device. Use at your own risk. Bottom line, I take no responsibility for the damages that may happen to your device by flashing this ROM.

Hi Martiare
There are two ways
1. you could use external bluetooth receiver that your vista side could use to connect using BlueTooth or USB, easiest and fastest way of doing it.
2. If you wish to use internal GPS of Shift then, you need to install either thaihugo's ROM, pliROM or RamROM, which can be downloaded from this forum (search is your friend). Once you install them, you have multiple options, but the one I use is using Franson's GPSGate Client for Vista and WinMo. I bought this for $49 and I feel good investment. Install GPSGatePPC on WinMo side, and GPSGate on Vista side. Configure GPSGatePPC to work on ActiveSync. Configure GPSGate to receive signals from ActiveSync. And install Maps software such as AutoRoute or Micosoft Streets, Earthmate etc. on Vista side and thats all.
Thanks

First of all let me thank you and all other "cookers" for your continuous effort. I've been following the birth and the growth of quite a high number of ROM's, and I still can't understand if it's a good or a bad thing... I mean: surely everyone that flashes a newly cooked ROM acts as a beta-tester for the "chef" and for all other users that don't dare or simply can't flash a new ROM each week. Moreover each new ROM, even if adds some (in)compatibility problem, solves many others (just think about the possibility to use GPS). And this is the good part of the situation.
On the other hand I feel a bit confused. Each new ROM has many good things, but lacks in others, IMO. I know it's a matter of personal taste, but for instance I would really like that PliROM's home could be the standard for each other ROM. And that's just one of the things that I (and each one of us) could point up.
May I suggest to write down a list of the components and let a survey start? If 90 people over 100 should prefer PliROM's interface instead of original Shift one (again: it's just an example), why to continue developping ROMs with other interfaces?
I say this because I'm absolutely unable to cook anything, and I think that many of us can't.
Of course I'll go on flashing new (stable) ROMs, trying to beta-test , at least for a few weeks... than I'll have to go back to work and I wouldn't run the risk anymore to loose data or hardreset
Pure Snapvue
Hi Sai ;
Even though the user interface is really limited , i -personally- prefer using snapvue ...
So ... is there a way for you to
-either let me know how to disable the top bar with the start menu on your liberated rom
or
-cook a rom only cab-install and gps enabled , so that i can go on my own way...
My very best regards
Safak

Hi Ram,
Thanks a lot! If you can cook the 2nd CHT version with the updated GoogleMaps will be perfect! One more request, can you use pli6128's plirom v2.00 WWE 1.22.405.0 96dpi to cook the CHT 2nd version? Because I tried and feel it's user friendly and the key buttons for both contacts and programscan be address. Also, I found it stable too.
Thanks.

For free GPS Tracking in Google Earth, and Google Maps mobile, checkout http://www.reperion.com and choose basic, free download.
You don't need to boot vista to see your realtime tracks, all you have to do is import your Reperion KML network link to Google Mobile Maps !
It will give you much much more than just tracking... check it out
http://www.reperion.com/newclient for the software
http://geocool.reperion.com/web to JOIN for an account.

Installed and working. Just one query about the GPS side though.....
I'm using a UK version of the shift for starters that is only a few months old. I've fllashed the Rom as above and also installed the GPSGate software on both sides. That all seems to be working fine and the WinMob side has found the GPS Module on COM4 and is receiving data but no location. After having read the other threads I appreciate you have to stand in the middle of a field for i to pick up the satellites. Unfortunately I have tried this and it still isnt picking them up. Is it possible that HTC has now stopped installing the GPS Antennas in recent Shifts (no, I haven't opened it up to look)?
Any other ideas?

in HCTC GPS Tool (Settings tab) press Open Button, in the lower part you will see some scrolled text, when you run GPS software for the first time you have to wait for 15-30 minute to recieve the signals, then go to Satellite tab the no. of satellite used must be 3 or more to get your location, thise what I did, hope it is the correct way.

I agree with you completely. I don't think they would have removed it. It may be some issues with the position or something related to GPSGate configuration. I also come into issues where it would take good 15 to 20 minuts to lock my Shift for the first time especially with overcast skies, evenings and inside the building. I may be wrong too, HTC might have removed the GPS altogether in the newer systems, but that would be a drastic step for HTC. If they do so, I would suggest buying RAON Everun and tether it with a Kaiser or Hermes would be cheaper. You would have a GPS receiver on your WinMo, and have bluetooth, SD, Wifi handy and you could connect your Everun to that and it fits in the pocket, eventhough the screen is nearly 5" as opposed to 7". But that is cheaper alternative and runs on more manageable XP. And installing GPSGate on WinMo and XP gives me to have the GPS on bigger screen.
Thanks
Ram
Got the GPS Tool running again. It's hovering on Sat 32 and 14 with the odd scan of no. 1 on its own. Going to leave it on the windowledge overnight as the field isn't really an option!
I'm used to using a Garmin Zumo on the motorbike that takes seconds to find the sats and TomTom on my Hermes in the car and also it's own in-built Toyota Effort. None takes this long to find satellites.
But it is fun, isn't it!!!

Yep, it is kind of slow, once you get the location fixed, and it uses 2 satellites, the things move pretty fast. I have quite a good number of GPS devices, and all of them are pretty fast when compared to this.
Thanks

So the GPS Tool locked up the WinMob side , it mustn't have liked being left on all night! Pulled the battery and reset. Hey Presto the sky is full of satellites tonight and all is working fine!!!! It takes ages to take its initial reading of where everything is, has a real good think about it and then decides to work.
Now looking forward to any future incarnations.
Many thanks to all
Nice looking ROM , with many bug at this point. Just uninstalled from my X1. Igo 8 , Garmin and a few GPS related software not working with this relase.Contact screen freeze after sync with outlook from my pc.
The only one ROM from itje worked for me trouble free: Touch-IT_Xperience_v2.2
Anybody out there who have Igo 8 and this ROM working?
sorry double post - deleted
Using Garmin Mobile XT V5.00.20 and works perfect (Socal).
Couple of things to check:
1 - Advanced Config - enable 'Assisted GPS'
2 - update quick GPS
3 - Settings - 'External GPS' my settings are:
GPS program port: COM4
GPS hardware port: (None)
Baud rate: 4800 (i've seen others used 9600 as well, don't know the difference)
Manage GPS auto - checked
From what I know, GPS has a lot more to do with the radio than rom. I've tried all three available Xperia radios and the best one for me is 1.10.25.18 . Satellites lock quickly and signal holds very well.
radios are available here:

You just gotta experiment, good luck!
using igo8 perfectly.
also tried the cab for TT with a free map (to test out footprints) and that works as well.
I had big problems with gps, seems that sometimes a flash can mess it up. It's not related to rom, it's not itje's bug, a hard reset should do the trick. make a backup with something like spb backup, hard reset and then restore
PS I LOVE googlemaps integrated in contact detail page
I am using Touch-It RC1 with IGO8 without any problems, I didnt have any problems with any of the beta versions either.......I havent changed any GPS settings on windows or in IGO8 gps settings etc.

I bet you will have a lot of issue by enabling this. HTC put a bogus non-reachable IP address for AGPS and AGPS never work.
I actually haven't got into much problem with the A-GPS enabled. Only issue is if i leave the GPS program active, but not routing to a destination, and let the screen power off due to inactivity, the phone occasionally freezes. I will trying turning it off and see if i can repeat the freezing.

My Igo 8 working perfect with another cooked rom's. With itje's rom i can not install Igo 8 (8.3.2.64029). I havent changed any GPS settings on my xperia.

That should work; also check if the installation path is correct in sys.txt.
I've got Navigon 7, TomTom 7 and iGo8 working perfectly on the Xperia. TomTom and Navigon are a bit stretched since they were made for VGA, but they work fine.
Also Google maps, Trackr and QuickGPS work fine.
I left all GPS settings to the standard and disabled AGPS.
The above are valid for Itje's 2.01, 2.2, 3.01, 3.5 WWE and NLD, 4.0, Jack 2.08, CmEX 2 and some others I've tried (didn't keep track, I flash every few days )

Here's my take:
IGo8:
Pro: Best graphic (both 3D and 2D) and fluid screen movement, TTS, fully customizable UI. lane info for freeway exit, excellent voice instuctions, Quite easy to use UI if you get use to it.
Con: Take a long time to (> 1 min) start. Resource and memory hog.
Garmin Mobile XT:
Pro: Best POI, Best online functionality if you got 3G plan (Google search, realtime traffic, airline schedule, gas price .... etc).
Con: Ugly UI (IMHO), quite hard to understand how to navigate the menus, slow, no TTS, not so good voice instructions
Tomtom: Very good graphic (just 2nd to Igo), very easy to use.
Con: no TTS, horrible voice instructions in complicated freeway situtation, no feature is best of it class and I don't see the need to use it (e.g. I would either use Garmin or Igo8 depend on situtation and needs, but in no case I would consider Tomtom....)
Thanks for the review! IGo8 sounds good, and I just moved to Socal and freeways is a ***** to navigate so better voice instructions would be a plus.

If you are in US, you should look into IGuidance 4/2009 too. Ugliest interface but best TTS instructions, fast startup time and use a lot less resource.
In my case iGo starts within 15sec., it depends on the stuff (maps, buildings etc.) you include. I´m using the latest version but it eats up a lot of memory though.

My experience is similar to Jacks, but here goes:
Navigon 7:
pro: a lot faster than version 6, very good graphics, roadsigns in landscape, POIs with real life logo's, fast map updates, excellent voice instructions
con: startup is a bit slow, not customisable
iGo 8:
pro: very customisable/skinnable, nice graphics, chooses logical routes, lane info with roadsigns in portrait and landscape, fast map updates, easy to plan a route with multiple stops, displays second move.
con: startup is slow, hard to navigate to contacts (hidden in POI menus)
TomTom 7:
pro: very fast, very easy to understand and navigate from A to B.
con: very simple graphics, hard to customise
I use iGo most, but I think Navigon is nicer to look at and has better voices. iGo voices are a lot better than in previous versions, but you get a lot of notifications for one move. I hardly use TomTom; only when I want to now quickly (within a minute or so) where I can find a specific address.
I've had a play with the tomtom cab from the diamond and the free map of my home town (for footprints experimenting) and the route finding is really bad. I know a few others who have standalone units and have complained of the same.
I was heading back home the other night, set preferences to shortest, turned onto a 2 mile long straight road home and it decided I should instead turn left, go 3 miles to get onto the motorway ride along the motorway for a 1.5 miles than up another road for 2 miles, to come out the other end of the road I was on. mmm
give me igo anyday..
Been involved in the beta testing for the telmap stuff, other than the caching and amount of data it uses it's not bad, but ugly. Walking directions are pretty good as well.
Nothing from all the solutions you gave in this thread works for me ! I tried them all...
Anyone who got this working on Touch-IT v4.0 RC1 , RC 3 , RC 3.01 ......
What branding and data file are you using? What is your igo8 version number ?
What is in your sys conf. file?
Everything working fine with generic uk R2AA010 rom,but nothin with itje rom's....
I like very much his rom, i really wanted to use , but i must to have igo8 on my xperia
Hey guys, well it looks like now is a good time to release the first test build of my AT&T Tilt 2 Clean ROM
If you're familiar with my Raphael ROM's, the concept is the same.
Support for as much hardware components as possible without bloated software
Stability
Speed (uncompressed)

old version 28002
old version 23081
Note that it still needs a little bit of polish, but it's good enough to post the first test version now
QuickGPS is installed but not in the start menu (you can run it from \windows) - reason is aGPS works great and QuickGPS xtra.bin download is not needed when aGPS is functioning.
Keyboard comes pre-configured for AT&T layout.
No connection is configured initially, autodataconfig will start first boot and configure AT&T connections properly.
There is no MMS software installed (you can install a cab of arcsoft, which works fine)
The zoom slider doesn't function properly at the moment, nor the microphone mute button on the back (seems some extra HTC software beyond drivers is responsible for these, i'll look into it and see if I can activate both without adding bloat)
I have left the expiration date and timebomb warning text on the desktop intact, search the registry for key "DeviceBeta" and delete it if you would like to remove the warning. I plan to have several more releases out by the time the timebomb comes near, so it should not be an issue.
Awesome could not wait till we started to see some of the familar chefs cooking for the tilt2.
Thank you!
amazing
My new tilt2 just arrived today and i finally head out to the rhodium forum to start locating a new rom for the new phone and what do i find a nice shiny new Da_G clean rom that was just posted today. my absolute favorite rom's...
now wheres that unlocker... probably a sticky at the top...lol
Awesome! Is it really going to expired 12/09?
Love the Da_G clean ROMS...they are the best!
A couple questions:
Do you recommend a radio to correspond with the rilphone included in the ROM?
Does this ROM have the AT&T hardware keyboard layout cooked in?
Thanks again, Da_G...
Nice, Thanks Da_G
Check first post for answers to questions thus far, let me know if I missed something
da_g, it's great to see you and your amazing work here! i flashed this the moment i saw it!
you may want to add the proximity sensor to your to-do list, it is not active during a call.
also, the lockscreen takes a second before you can slide
that's it for now, and thanks again!
agps
thank you thank you thank you. I've said that to you so many times.
Got a question to bounce off this thread as AT&T's quite a minority to other threads. Can I use any radio on any rom plus the AT&T aGPS registry settings cab made by Captain Throwback for the Fuze (or any phone) in order to get aGPS? Or does it have to be the AT&T radio? Tough for me to test living in a city so it would be nice if someone saved me from the adventure I had with the Fuze to get this question answered.
Also I'm not seeing a lot of rilphones lying around. Are recent non-AT&T roms packing the 4.49 rilphone or none at all and ... ahh nevermind just someone figure out the gps thing so I can settle it on my site.
Thanks again.
Doug
The aGPS settings cab from t-back should work, you'll need a relatively recent rilphone and radio (probably all rhodium radios will do)
Run the HTCGPSTool app, hit open port, and look for it to connect your data and show $GPCELL in the window, if it does you're in business
gpsaux.dll service is required (part of quickgps), suplrootcert, and the registry entries.
Proximity Sensor, Rear mute button, and the other advanced in call features all look like they're dependant on the phone canvas, but i'm torn as to including that because it's pretty large and has a slight delay at ring-time.
Da_G...is it possible to cab up the phone canvas, so that it could be installed by those who desire those features?

TP2 section is hurting in that department. Iirc from the radio thread it's not installing as easy ad it was on the fuze...who knows.

I'm sending this from my tp2 now. in about an hour when I'm behind my laptop I will post 4.49 rillphone.dll
EDIT:
Here you go....
! KEEP IN MIND THAT THIS MODULE CAN ONLY BE USED BY COOKS. RECMOD AND THEN CABBING IT WILL RESULT IN HARDRESET TO USE YOUR PHONE AGAIN !
Hey Da_G,
Nice that we moved over to the Rhodium thread at about the same time. I was curious if you were planning on putting a kitchen up like you did for the Raphael? Even if you don't, your ROMS so closely resemble what I use that it doesn't matter much.
Thanks again for everything you've done here for XDA, I've used your ROMs on several devices now. CES is coming up soon, I'll see if I can find any more micro-SD cards to send you, or other cool swag.

Can somebody make this into a cab file so it can be installed like what they have on the Fuze and Raphael?
Thanks.

Isn't there an easier way to perform a hard reset? (Read the post again.)
Hey Da_G,
Been using this since Saturday, and the only things that I've really noticed so far are:
- No comm manager (I need airplane mode)
- Settings | System | G-Sensor doesn't launch anything (not a huge issue, just weird)
- Sometimes when doing email (especially after replying, screen is stuck in landscape until you exit email)
- No X-Key or the like... Task Manager works, but is just not as convenient.
Look forward to the next release, and if you're willing to share the Kitchen again, I'll see if I can help port over some of the apps.
Stripped ROM
I'm very interested in a stripped ROM. No PIE, No Office, etc. I don't especially like IE8 or Opera. I like to install only the Software I want on the device.
Thanks.
Testing this now, Da_G is still my hero from the Blackjack 1 era. Maybe someone can spare my stupid self a lot of research, I'm only getting 3 wide icons in the start menu, even in landscape, is there a fix for that?

This will give you a 4 wide start menu.
